We contacted Matt to quote repiping our house after receiving a glowing referral from our real estate agent. Unfortunately after living in our home for several years we found out that a previous owner had installed copper pipe additions to the existing galvanized iron pipes. This was causing both the new and old pipes to corrode each other with multiple leaks in the crawl space. We were lucky nothing had burst. Matt's repiping partner Aaron came out the same day (working late on a Friday, that's dedication), talked through what was going on, explained what we did and didn't need to replace, and gave us a reasonable quote right on the spot. We know it was reasonable because we got multiple quotes and SMASH was right in the middle of the pack, not suspiciously cheap or crazy expensive. These guys aren't trying to rip anyone off, and less than half of the quote we got from the big name plumbing company we talked to. Matt is a dream of a plumber: knowledgeable, courteous, careful and customer-focused. He quickly diagnosed a couple of faucet problems I had in different rooms and regretfully told me that I'd need a new faucet for one of them (he doesn't like his customers to have to pay too much). My new faucet is great and he even found one that matches well with the no-longer-made original. He needed a part for the other problem and since he was out of town for a few days and thus not able to get right to it, he later installed the part for free because of the wait. The clean out hadn't been opened in probably 25 years and my adult son and buddies couldn't get it open no matter what they used or how hard they tried (this was the night before). My Tankless water heater basically blew up after years of working great. Aaron and Matt picked up the phone be the first ring and immediately trouble shooter the symptoms with me. Without me asking they were on the phone with Navian ordering me replacement parts. Unfortunately the parts took a week to get her because of a holiday. Buyers beware!! Almost exactly 2 years ago, Matt installed for us a new garbage disposal unit. It fell apart a couple of months ago. Why? Because he did not use plumber's putty where he needed to. Basic stuff, right?! The unit finally was shaken loose and it broke down: leaking and foul-smelly with spoiled food inside. ONLY 2 years later, I had to pay for a new unit not because the unit stopped working but because it was not installed correctly. Frustrating. Speaking of BASIC work not getting done correctly, Matt replaced the flushing mechanism for one of our toilets. He did not pay attention to where the water level was in the tank before he replace the mechanism. The tank started to leak very soon. He came back and corrected his work. And he charged me $75 for correcting his work. Then there was a bidet on one of our toilets that was leaking. He fixed the leak but he tightened the knot so much that I could not replace the bidet when it broke. He came back and 'fixed' it and again, he charged me $75 for correcting his work. I did tell Matt I would not use him ever again and I told him I probably would not write him up on yelp etc. And I didn't. But this garbage disposal issue is beyond reasonable tolerance. I am beginning to worry that the job he did for us in the crawl space will go bad soon, too. The take-away here is it's extremely frustrating to see so many jobs Matt did developed into problems in very short time. I don't want this happen to those of you considering Matt for your plumbing jobs. For those of you who have praised his work recently, hang tight. read more

Matt and Smash Plumbing helped again. They have done multiple jobs at my house like tankless water heater installation and misc. repairs. Yesterday, Matt and Aaron installed a water filtration system and as usual, an immaculate installation. Neither pipe under our sink was accessible as they were behind a false wall that had to be cut out. In addition, we had no angle stops for the kitchen sink, so if we ever had to do any repairs on the kitchen sink, we would have to shut off water to the entire house. Aaron did a beatiful job of cutting out an access hole, installing the angle stops, and installing the filtration system. He even put the access panel back on. It looks totally sanitary! As usual, I am super impressed with their craftsmenship and cleanliness as Aaron had drop clothes around the entire work area. When the job was completed, the area was spotless.
