I've been here a 2 times. I have very mixed reviews. I'll list them below. They are hit or miss on when they are actually open. I have been 5 more times but they were closed, although yelp said they were open. Trip 1: The bartender was good, but she was super busy bartending and managing all of the tables. That led to getting slow service. I had the cheese curds as an appetizer. They were pretty good, they didn't taste super fresh. However, the blackberry preserve they serve with them is very good. For my meal I had the Crab Crusted Halibut. Honestly, I didn't expected it to be good. Especially for a pub. I was proved wrong. It was excellent. I drank a couple of old fashions. The bartender gave heavy handed pours of Buffalo Trace. The music choices in there I think were great. Trip 2: Slightly different than trip one. We were greeted by our server who was faking an Irish accent. (yes, seriously.) She was slow, slightly rude, and frankly not a good server. We had the grilled Brie as an appetizer. The cheese it self was good. But the killer was the cheese tasted like it was grill on the same grill that fish had been grilled on. So that ruined the whole appetizer. It was not edible. From there I tried the burger and the fish and chips. The fish and chips were tasty. As they should be at an Irish pub. The burger had the same issue as the grilled brie. It had that fishy taste to it. It was not edible. Fish only has an odor when it is not fresh. None of the fish that I have had there had an odor. Not worth it. Went for my birthday dinner & was extremely disappointed in the food. Pretzel bites and the bread slice with the potato leek soup were good but the minestrone was poor, the corned beef & cabbage had zero flavor. Guys, use pickling spices & add more horseradish to the sauce. But the winner for worst is the Turkey sandwich. Not turkey but some spongy, rubberized mystery meat. Yuck! I couldnt even eat it. Place was too loud with cussing drunks; definitely not family friendly. And our soup (1st course) came out at the same time as our entree. This is my first dining experience here at McNally's. Whenever I'm at a Irish restaurant I always go for the fish and chips. This dish by far was the best I have ever eaten. We ate here on the patio after browsing around at the scarecrow fest, today. The manager (i think) was so nice and asked about our dog (they allow dogs on the patio) and got us seated right away. And while we understand it's busy, our server could not have looked more annoyed and crabby if she tried. She looked pissed off that she had to take our table as she was done for the day. It wasn't like we requested her or to sit in a certain section (we would have rather not had her, if it was up to us). We were a table of 5 and got our order ready before she even came to greet us. We had to flag someone down though for her to come to our table. No hello, no my name is xxx, no I'm going to be your server, just "what do you want for drinks?" Stunned, is an understatement as we've never had someone with that much attitude before. We asked to order our food, but she said she'd get our drinks first. When she came back, again, "what are you eating?" No smile, nothing. At least pretend to act like you want to be there. On to the food: My brother ordered the chicken wings, which came out raw and fatty, he was so grossed out he had to send it back, which he wouldn't do normally (we also had to flag someone else down to get our server to come back). He then ordered the bacon wrapped bacon.. and if you ever wanted to try jello-ed bacon fat... that's what you should order. We just took it home though and paid and left. We just wanted out of there. It will end up in the trash, though. So the star is for the nice manager and host, and the pretzel bites.. other than that yikes. read more

My daughter, my best friend and I went to lunch at McNally's the other day. We had a wonderful visit. The only negative comment I could leave at all would be the hostess was very unfriendly. But our waitress was very pleasant and we order the half a sandwich with a BLT with the beet salad. We also ordered half a Reuben with a Caesar salad. Our lunch was amazing. Everything was perfect. We sat on the patio and it was very comfortable I would definitely recommend this restaurant! I will be back for sure. read more

I had the turkey gouda apple bacon onion sandwich with a cup of potato leek soup on the side. The last time I had this meal which was awhile ago it was on a pretzel bun, but this time it was on a huge flatbread. The flatbread made it a little more hard to eat. I'm still undecided if I like the flatbread or the pretzel bread better, I was just surprised it was this big flat bread sandwich when it came out. The leak soup was good, it was very flavorful. Where to eat solo? Was thinking good food, nice ambiance, interesting beer selection and, maybe most important, an engaging staff. McNallys on a Wednesday night was my choice based on a prior experience. The Pub was a great choice. Fish n chips though they had vegetarian options, conversation friendly, Smithwicks beer on draft, warm welcome at reception and Niall as friendly Irish-heritage bartender recommending Bells Christmas Ale (with a taste pour) for next time. Our waiter was nice, attentive & friendly. Also, the food and cocktail were delicious. When leaving, staff did apologize for the noisy pub crawl. I always appreciate the excellent service from the team at McNally's. Tonight, there were a couple issues . I requested potato and leeks soup. And for the entree, I ordered fish and chips. Somehow, the fish and chips were delivered first. I made the waiter aware of this. I asked if he could cancel the soup since my entree was already sat in front of me. He did so. 2nd issue: I asked the waiter for a refill on a cocktail. He returned a few minutes later with no cocktail in-hand. Instead, he asked if we needed anything else or were we ready to pay. It's a large piece of cod that looks like it had been frozen and not beer battered had no real taste to it. Bring back the good fish. Well, this is a bit afield of our usualy northern california haunts, but we came to St Charles to see our childhood friend play piano for Rita Moreno at the Arcada Theater down the street. We got to town with a few hours to kill, and so went strolling down the main street looking for a place to have lunch. What an amazing find! First, we were greeted like long lost family - but hey, that's how the Irish treat everyone! We were seated right by the window, affording a view of the chilled walkers-by, boy was it a blustery day. We ordered the poutine to share as a starter, and it was so good one of our party ordered another for her main course (adding a couple of fried eggs to an already yummy concoction). This was a couple of weeks before St Patricks day, but you could feel the whole place seemed to be already gearing up for what I'm sure was an awesome day. Our food was amazing! Everyone was sticking their forks into plates across the table, and needless to say the guinness helped it all go down smoothly! Oh, I wish this place was in California! The staff were all outstanding - our waitress was an absolute delight. The entire experience was like being transported to the Emerald Isle for an afternoon, and I can't wait to get back there! We attended Irish New Year's 12/31/22, upstairs.Staff was great,especially the bartender,brunette woman who did an amazing job serving all us "sardines" that packed in. I order food often to support my local restaurants, but a few seem as if they are using old food and re-frying or reheating them. The chicken wings I received from this restaurant were dry and hard. The burgers, ordered medium, was well done and burned and dry. The cheddar cheese on there was not cheddar. Not sure what it was. The cheese curds were not as advertised on the site. We visited after a long absence. Their quality has gone down, the staff seemed under pressure and last night was total disappointing. For starters the chicken sandwich was not as expected, not on a bun but sliced bread, no avocado was served, and the chicken not tasty at all. What made the evening a disaster was the inappropriate approach from the operation's manager in regards to a gift card we received from the St Charles alliance , totally unprofessional. Supposedly she was not informed. One of the best Irish restaurants we have visited in some time. We stopped by for lunch, and were glad we did. My wife loved her corned beef and cabbage, and I tried the Reuben Boxty. It was something I had never tried or honestly heard of before. I enjoyed learning something new about traditional Irish food, and thought it was really good! So went with the fish and chips since they also had good reviews. That was an even bigger disappointment the fish was so mushy and not flaky at all. My wife and I wanted to try an Irish Pub on St. Patrick's Day. While the place was very busy (as expected), the food was excellent, warm and very flavorful. We had the Corned Beef and Cabbage plate and the fish fry. The fish was probably the best I have ever tasted with a crunchy breading and not greasy at all. I really wanted to like this restaurant, but I will never go back. They had the hardest time trying to find a party of 7 a party, 4 adults & 3 kids. They refused to put tables together ( outside ), there was nothing available inside and they wouldn't allow us to sit upstairs. They claim there is a private event going on... yet no one was up there! After WE figured out our own seating arrangement. (Since it was too hard of a job for them ) The waiter took our order for the drinks. One drink was delivered to a wrong table ( alcoholic drink ) the table was behind us ‍ so we ended up waiting another 15 mins for just the drink! After 30 mins the guy finally came back for our food order. I asked about the soap, said it was chicken tortilla? So two people ordered that. The food started to come out and 3 out of the 7 orders came, they never put in the other orders.. The soup was also wrong! It was not chicken tortilla, no idea what it was. So that got sent back! We waited another 25 mins for the rest of the food to come out! We told our issues to a member there. She wanted to give us a free dessert... but they're out of everything besides a chocolate cake. Had dinner yesterday and the food was worse than ever. I had the fish and chips and the fish came in one big glump!! I've never seen a BLOB of fried fish ever in my life until yesterday. The fries there are equally bad. I'd rather had frozen crinkle cut fries than their bad fries. The fish there was never great, but my girlfriend wanted to go there for corned beef and cabbage before the St. Patricks Day rush. Her meal was bad as well. Cold potatoes, under cooked carrots, tasteless corned beef and some kind of secret sauce poured over everything. She also had the leek soup which was bad.....looked and tasted like porridge. It was much less than normal service today. Never got my toast, I asked the expeditor for it along with syrup for my wife's stale french toast. Did get the toast, but no syrup. The bartenders attention was finally caught. Asked her for the syrup. She kept looking at her watch. At 15 minutes after 11, she grabbed some keys and went out the door. My wife finally was able to get syrup for her now cold, stale french toast. My over easy eggs were overcooked. I do say we have always had a good breakfast here, but today, they were off. read more

If I could give zero stars I would! We had a reservation for six for my sons 30th birthday. Despite a confirmation nobody was prepared for us. We were walked up a pitch black stairwell and stood us on semi darkness while the hostess fumbled for minutes to find the lights. I could not believe it. There were no plates, no menus, no silverware... nothing when we finally were sat. That's my first impression. Let me get to the food and I can only speak for my order. Appetizers - traditional potato skins and pretzel bites. Skins were overcooked and dried out. Pretzel bites were hard as a rock with no salt. My order - a burger that I asked for well done. Half of it was right ... I had one side medium and the other well done. Waffle fries were ice cold. No celebration for my son other than a dish of donuts that they comped nobody said Nor sang happy birthday. I would never go back there again. They dropped the ball on this special occasion and the food was not worth the 46 minute drive we could have chose any restaurant for his birthday but chose this one. Very disappointed read more

Mcnallys has amazing food. It is located in the 1st street corridor in Saint Charles! They have fun outdoor dining and the option to eat inside the very fun indoor, nicely decorated restaurant. It's a Saint Charles staple! My favorite is the chicken Cobb sandwich! We have been several times and never walk away disappointed. The prices are a little high, but food is tasty. My sister and I stopped for lunch today while biking on the prairie path. The server was solicitous, and helped us find a spot for our bikes. We sat at an outdoor table with a view of a lovely patio shared by several restaurants with a fountain. I was expecting typical pub fate, and could not have been more pleasantly surprised! I ordered from the lunch menu and for $12.00 got a half ahi tuna wrap and half Pacific rim salad. The presentation was amazing, and the ingredients fresh and flavorful. Delish! Friday night April 8, 2022. Family get together went to a show at the Arcada Theater after the show McNally's was recommended to go to for drinks. Got to McNally's at 10:45 pm. Half of our 8 person group was let in and as the rest of the group was walking up they locked the door. The website said they closed at 1:00am but they closed at 11:00pm. There was nothing saying that they were closing early. Everyone ordered a drink as soon as the drinks came the bartender starting telling us to drink up the bar was closed. If you know you are closing don't let people come in and serve them drinks then start telling them it's time to go. We would have found a different bar from the get go. When you are drinking and conversations going to be rudely told to get out is not cool. The waiter that was there was nice enough to let us know that Bogarts that was a block away was still open. We finish our drinks at McNally's and walked to Bogarts. Half hour later at Bogarts the bartender from McNally's walked in and sat down at the bar to party with her friends. We will never go back to McNally's in St Charles Illinois. The bartender was rude and should have never served us knowing they were going to closed before the drinks were served. Put our name down for a table. We were told 15 minutes. They forgot us and we reminded them. While this occurred, they took a party of 4 that just walked in, we were a party of 3. It took another 15 min to get water and order appetizer. Waitress Molly passed us 3 times before we had to get her attention to place our order. We have a food allergy to avocado. We told the server this before ordering. The manager said the couldn't make substitutions. We explained we weren't asking for a substitution, just no avocado on the sandwich. They refused to not put it on the sandwich. ‍ Who does this?! They only have one-stall restrooms for a pub with over 100 people occupying it. Over priced. Not family friendly. Food average, you can get it anywhere for probably less. read more
