My girlfriend and I stopped in last Friday, October 6 at about three in the afternoon for a drink and some appetizers and ended up ordering the Rueben boxy. Then the rain started and the place absolutely loaded up. Our food was fantastic and our server Vivian absolutely rocked! She handled almost the entire restaurant by herself, but I must add both the bartender and I assume the dishwasher cooks stepped out to help , great teamwork. Three attempts to go here. The first, we were told it was trivia night and if we were not participants we could not be seated. The second attempt there was a private party. Both attempts we wandered around looking to be seated before being told. Tonight was not different in that respect. We walked to the back like the sign said. Waitress walked past us twice, finally my wife asked about being seated and was told " you can sit anywhere". The staff has always been surely, the triva night it was the owner so obviously the business culture. Tonight was no different with one word answers and grunts. Maybe because we live 20 miles weat, had come in separate cars and were not drinking. My wife had fish and chips, which came out looking like they were blackened. I had corner beef and cabbage. The potatoes and cabbage were as close to raw as the could be while still warm and the corned beef was close to being a salt lick. I miss Claddaugh. read more

Our First trip here before a concert at the Arcada. We are definitely coming back for dinner, before our next show. Lots of good portions on what we ordered, plus what we saw the people around us had. We went with the Reuben sandwiches which were very good, but get the waffle fries, they are the show stealer. We had the pretzel bites for an appetizer, also very good. The cheese sauce that comes with it is wonderful. They had a good selection of beer on tap, as well as a complete stock of other liquors. My wife and I stopped in for dinner on Wednesday. We ordered a salad and burger. My wife ate 1/4 of the salad because the chicken was dry, and they charred my medium rare-requested burger to well done...TWICE. The waffle fries were burnt as well...TEICE. We love this place, but the quality and service have been slipping for a while. The manager came over after the first burnt burger, but wouldn't after the second. The waitress admitted the burgers were burnt but needed to "ask if it could be taken off my bill". Sadly, we will take McNally's off of our regular rotation in St Charles. We want to try Alter Brewing Co, and of course, our favs Za Za's and Szechwan. read more

Everything is good here and fresh. We especially like the corned beef and fish fry. Also, the burgers are fantastic too! McNally's also has great appetizers, try the cheese curds with jelly, they are very good. Lastly but not least, the evening ambiance outside with friends over cocktails is really fun- on the weekends you can usually find a band in the courtyard. It's a Friday night. I am with my father and a few of his close friends way back from Highschool. Let me tell you this is a eccentric spot to hang out, especially if you are looking for quality night life. Food was impeccable (we love traditional Irish food) I had the full Monty, it's breakfast-y, with sausage, eggs, and Canadian bacon, and my father has a peculiar dish with Salmon and potato pancakes which was packed with flavor! Service was fast and pleasant. Shortly after dinner, a two man band started to play which was entertaining and thrilling. Their sound was loud and filled the place with laughter and guitar chords which is everything you want on a Friday night out. I asked to play "Here Comes the Sun", and to my amusement they obliged. We had a wedding shower for our niece last weekend upstairs and I cannot tell you how impressed I was with EVERYTHING and EVERYONE at McNallys in St. Charles. The food was wonderful, the staff incredible, the atmosphere was amazing. I would seriously recommend them before another venue. I've lived in St. Charles for over 16 years and when friends visit they like to frequent McNally's. My husband and I were in McNally's in June and noticed that poutine fries were no longer on the menu. We expressed our disappointment to the hostess, a lovely redhead. She assured us we can always ask for it even though it's not on the menu. The chef prepared it for us and it was delicious as always. We especially love the cold tap beer and amazing food you can count on when eating at McNally's. Fast forward a month to Saturday July 17th. A friend was visiting from Chicago and the weather was gorgeous so we decided to sit outside in the beautiful courtyard at McNally's. When the waitress took our order she was quick to say that poutine fries were no longer on the menu. I explained that we always ask for them and she was very curt and explained that there is a new chef and he won't make them - plus they serve breakfast until 1:00 on Sat and Sun. What? Breakfast until 1 on the weekend? We begged her to ask the chef anyway and she reluctantly did. He said he was willing to make them. Soooo we ordered our tangerine beer, shots and the fries to start. When the fries came out he had basically thrown warm gravy on the fries and still frozen cheese curds into the bowl. It was NOT poutine fries. Obviously he was pissed. Then why bother? We were so disappointed in the rude waitress and the obvious attitude of the chef that we didn't dare stay and eat lunch. We paid our bill and walked six feet across the courtyard to Gia Mia where we had an amazing lunch experience. The outdoor eating and dining competition has amped up over the last few years in downtown St. Charles. There are a lot of great choices for locals and people visiting. I'm surprised and disappointed that McNally's doesn't seemed concerned with their customer service. We'll be frequenting Flagship on the Fox from now on. We were pleasantly surprised by the corn beef hash meal, and the side of bangers were delicious off the brunch menu. The bottomless mimosa bar was a nice feature but unfortunately the service for champagne was just way too slow in between refills. We were left dry for 10+ minutes at a time. There was a busser and a female server who noticed and came by to assist throughout our meal, which was a nice highlight of teamwork! I work in the industry and always love to see when workers help each other, as opposed to every man for himself. It instantly improves any dining experience and shows the cohesiveness of an organization's staff. There was an older gentleman who appeared to be a manager helping to seat new parties and generally assist the servers. He walked past us several times, making eye contact and noticing our empty glasses, but didn't offer refills or any assistance. However when there was a single middle-aged patron sat next to us, this manager seemed to wait on him hand and foot. The inconsistency of hospitality doesn't encourage returning customers. We felt a little slighted. However, we're reasonable people and understand people get busy. We still had a decent time and may return in the future since we live in the area. read more

I have never eaten here, but I can unequivocally give this place 5 stars. I was planning a 40th birthday party for my dear Scottish husband and the place I'd planned to order from conveniently stopped responding to emails two weeks before the event. I PANICKED. I called McNally's basically in tears and asked if I could carry out their catering specials, or if they were just for in house parties. They said the manager would call me back. I didn't keep my hopes up. Sure enough an hour later, manager Colm called. He was calm and easy to talk to and said of course they could handle this order, of course it's not too late, and of course I could come pick it up and take it home - in fact, they'd just barely undercook it so I could finish it in the oven and have it nice and hot for the party. I almost cried. Again. The night of the party I trekked our to McNally's and sure enough, Colm had the food all prepared and boxed up for me - with oil, salt, and two sauces for the pretzel nuggets so I could warm them perfectly. The food got RAVE reviews from my guests and my husband was overjoyed to see scotch eggs at his Scottish themed party. I was relieved, and surprised to find out that scotch eggs aren't so gross after all, ha! I would come back to McNally's again and again. So disappointed in my 11.00 field green salad, I had it delivered through Uber eats and the salad came missing the pears and blue cheese. It was a bowl of field greens with about a tablespoon of bacon bits, nuts and dried fruit and I'm saying about a tablespoon of each. this is the second disappointment from this restaurant. read more

Kicking myself for taking this long to write this review! As someone has already noted- the customer service at McNally's is top notch, 5 star. We frequent McNally's for brunch, for my birthday in December I wanted to do a brunch get together but due to time constraints we wouldn't be able to get to the restaurant until around noon. I called the week before and talked to Michelle and told her we'd have 12-15 people coming, super casual I didn't need any kind of special setup but I wanted to give a heads up on the group size and also wanted to know if we could pay extra to extend brunch until 2 (it typically ends at 1). She said that was no problem, no extra charge for extended brunch and they would see us that Saturday. When we arrived for my brunch they had set up a whole little space for us upstairs with a mimosa bar and our own server and it was absolutely perfect! Food was great, service was great. It was more than I asked for and made for the absolute best birthday. (My favorite brunch in the burbs- $12 bottomless mimosas can't be beat and I love the eggs Benedict!) read more

Server was friendly and attentive but the food was pretty mediocre. Been there a few times hoping to improve but did not. They have some 'Irish' favorites that taste pre-packaged. I have lived in Saint Charles for 10 years and I have tried to to McNally's twice. The first time it was closed for new ownership taking over the spot I was disappointed that I did not try it prior to that night. Well we returned on Saturday August 20 about 5 pm. We entered through the rear since that is where the parking is located. The hostess asked us twice what we needed due to a loud obnoxious group of guys. We had to work our way through a number of rude individuals to get to a nice table in the front of the restaurant by the windows. As we were seated the hostess apologized a number of times for the noise and said they should be leaving soon. The server arrived a couple of minutes later and my daughter and I ordered our soft drinks and I could not tell you what she ordered nor could she tell you what I ordered because of the noise. The server returned with a regular soda when I asked for an Ice tea, she apologized as well for her mistake due to the loud crowd. When my daughter was unable to her me respond to her question I decided enough is enough. I paid for the drink I did not order and left, you would of thought the server would have said no worries its on the house due to the noise and it was not what I ordered. We ended up at Wok N Fire much better and peaceful place. My first visit was a sign not to return to this site when it was closed, I will never return and I encourage you to call first and see if 25 obnoxious guys are there first. We came here when it was really nice out and had lunch at their outdoor patio. It was really nice and the workers were very friendly. The menu and establishment is small, but good quality. The food was great and desserts were amazing. We got a complimentary apple pie that had ice cream on it that was fantastic. It had flaky warm crust and soft flavorful apple in the middle that paired well with the ice cream. My burger was cooked just right and the fries were crisp. My next visit I would really like to try their breakfast menu. The beers were great, so I also look forward to trying some of their other drinks. read more

This is your typical Irish pub but more upscale. 4 of us came here on a Friday night. We wanted to sit downstairs or outside but because we had a reservation we were seated upstairs because they had a table saved for us. We are in our mid- late 20s and everyone upstairs was old or it was families so that was interesting. Drinks were good. Server was attentive. Food was good. Really no complaints but really nothing to completely rave about. I will say there was a jazz band downstairs which was great but if you are sitting downstairs you won't be able to hear anyone because it's so freaking loud. read more

My wife and I just enjoyed the most delicious Reuben boxty ever. The corned beef was lean, tender, and superbly seasoned! Just fabulous. The slaw was piled high and, again, just the right balance of tang and creaminess. It was such a good portion, we easily shared it. We had plans to meet some of our family at a restaurant up in Crystal Lake in few weeks. We're now thinking McNally's is the place to go instead.
