All three times that we dined here the service was slow. Maybe because it was weekends and maybe because they often times have huge parties dining here. Our first time that we came here for prime rib day we were told that we couldn't have prime rib that day because they overcooked the prime rib. So they lost money on us because we both ordered items that were three dollars cheaper than the prime rib that we have been expecting. Then the next time we dined here, our waitress took my martini order and 20 minutes later. It still had not arrived, so I went to the bar and there was no one at the bar and when the waitress came back, she told me she would just going to the bar to make it. And she did. Such good reviews made us come back for a third time which was kind of a combination of the first times we had dined here When we come back here to Florida 10 months from now, we'll give it another shot, but this time we're going to try it during the week.

Mother's Day Brunch was great! The service was super everyone super attentive and Linda was great! The food was also very nice and huge selection. I had prime rib and ham both done perfect! I forgot about this place and glad we went back! The coconut cake was wow thanks Dean!

We went to Mean Deans for dinner tonight for a birthday, and overall it was a really good night. Everyone was super friendly and attentive from the start. The restaurant was clean and had a nice, relaxed vibe. The food was good, and the drinks were great -- they even came with an orchid on top, which was such a fun little touch. Since we were celebrating, the birthday girl got a free dessert of her choice & a birthday card, which was a sweet surprise and made her feel special. The only downside was that I had two Visa gift cards I planned to use, and they wouldn't accept them. That was a little frustrating, but other than that, everything was smooth and easy.

My friend wanted to try and after a very bad experience I finally said ok because sometimes you need to give a place a second d chance . This time the waitress was very friendly and the food was good . I had the special "chicken parm" and my friend the burger and both were good so this time I had a good experience I will give it another try and see if the first time was just a bad day for the cook or the staff

The staff is friendly and the restrooms are clean; a good start. For apps the gator bites and calamari were both good. Instead of marinara the calamari had sweet heat drizzled on it; so good. The entrees we ordered: salmon, Cuban sandwich, pork loin, meatloaf, and a filet. Both people were happy with their salmon, but not the side of plain cooked carrots; a little lack luster for the price point of the meal. The salmon was marinated and both people loved it. The pork was good, but it was smothered in large apple pieces, just too thick for the size of the meat- the apple pieces seemed like canned pie filling. The meatloaf had no complaints and with a little extra charge, the side salad matched the meal perfectly. The side salad was quite good. The filet was presented nicely, but alas was overcooked:/ lastly, the Cuban sandwich and black beans over rice was my dish. The sandwich was delicious and shared with the filet and person, who Loved it as well. The black beans only needed just a bit of liquid to make that the perfect side. Although the steak was overcooked, the meal was really solid for the rest of the group. We would probably go back again for sandwiches and the salmon. I'd like to try their fish and chips as well. The menu had a great deal of options. The only part that lagged was the side choices for us.

I was visiting the area and looked up this place on yelp and noticed it strong reviews. After going, I had to agree. It seemed fairly busy for a Tuesday night, but not terribly loud and I found it relaxing. I was tempted to get the shrimp and grits, but my friendly and attentive waitress Zoe made another recommendation and I was glad I went with it. I chose the blackened grouper, with chunky pineapple-mango salsa, Caribbean rice and green beans. It was delicious. I added this place to my favorites list.

We visited Mean Deans for the first time last night. They offer a large diverse menu which meant lots of questions for our server. Michael did an excellent job fielding them and making our special evening even more special. The one question I forgot to ask was whether Chef Dean was sometimes mean. What I can say is the entire staff was great, definitely not mean. We were celebrating a birthday and they went above and beyond. It was also Monday Meatloaf Day, so I had their Marsala Meatloaf. This was a nice comfort food meal. I may have missed some of the nuances of the dish but overall, it was a delicious meatloaf with gravy and potatoes and veggies, a meal I grew up enjoying. My nostalgic dinner started with a small Caesar salad, actually called Vintage Caesar on the menu. It was, too. I even got it with anchovies. We finished our meal by sharing a Key Lime Crème Brulee. I like wood, and there was plenty. One wall was made with various colored boards with chalkboards built in. One chalkboard answered some of the questions we had asked Michael. They have a menu where anybody can find something they'd like to try. My wife raved about her Cedar Plank Salmon, I want to try their Gouda Burger. We'll find a way to return someday.

We picked this place based on menu selection and prices. It was fantastic. Our server Matt was fun and efficient. Dean the owner came and checked on us twice during dinner. Three of us had the glazed cedar plank salmon and it was cooked to perfection, and very flavorful. One of the group had the pork tenderloin with apples and commented how wonderful it was. The soup of the day was filet mignon. It was tasty with plenty of meat in it, not just broth. The spinach artichoke dip was delightful and flavorful. Matt was quick to bring more tortilla chips when we ran low to finish the dip. Dean does the little things just right, like lavender butter with the dinner rolls instead of just butter. We tried the dessert sampler at Matt's recommendation since we couldn't decide and - Wow. Deans own peanut butter pie, key lime crème brûlée, and raspberry cheesecake. The PB pie rivals some of the best I've eaten, including my own. The key lime crème brûlée is a great twist on key lime pie and the lime glaze made it a little more tart if that is what you are looking for. The cheesecake was good, and I'm not a cheesecake fan. All three desserts were accompanied by a slightly sweet fresh whipped cream. We are only in town a few nights on vacation and are trying to determine which night we are going back.

Amanda and Linda are SUCH awesome servers. All the food is fresh, delicious, and spectacular in every form. The ambiance and hospitality is something every other restaurant should strive for.

I saw this place on Yelp and Google so I gave it a try based on reviews. I'm definitely coming back!!!! Everything was delicious!!! I was cautious because I wasn't asked a temp on the salmon I ordered, but it was amazing. Cooked perfectly!!! The calamari was on point!!! I have had freezer burned calamari at several restaurants, this was so fresh tasting! And the marinara was delicious. And the dessert was beyond expectation! The service was excellent with Paige. I couldn't recommend this restaurant more!!! Very impressed!!! And they have a great wine list read more

Recommended by friends, we went on Christmas Day, so the menu was limited. A pleasant experience, this restaurant is located in a strip mall and apparently will be expanding to the available space next door. Our main server was good, but additional wait staff helped deliver our order and seemed a bit more attentive. ( maybe overwhelmed from the holiday crowd?) The Mediterranean bruschetta was excellent, good flavor but could have had some more toasted bread. The gator bites were okay; just not into gator! My salmon was well cooked with accompanying rice and vegetable ( carrots) ;very tasty and nice presentation but would have liked a touch more of the sides to go with such a big piece!! My husband enjoyed his duck, and K enjoyed his balsamic Brussels sprouts, excellent taste. No room for dessert, but given the reviews we will try again on a non holiday. read more

Me and my family are from away, and came in with a local friend to try out the restaurant! All of us got different meals, but all equally delicious!! The food and environment was an over all 10/10! Will definitely be coming back The staff were also so welcoming and kind to us! Our server Alex was on top of everything, from keeping our water fresh to offering silverware for our take home dish incase we were in a hotel! Beyond amazing! It has been about 1.5 years since we had been to MD, outside improved. Now food and service 9.5/10, I never give a 10 and rarely a 9. Very enjoyable, friendly and informative staff. Food gets another wow, a rare find, I do not care about the decor inside when food and service are great. read more

Food is not good. Raw chicken served. When they remade the chicken it tasted bad and had a smell to it. Possibly cross contaminated with seafood based on taste and smell. Took one bite of the chicken and only a few bites of the vegetables before telling them to forget my order, but somehow still had indigestion from just a few bites of very garlicky vegetables. Everyone else ordered salmon. They said it was just OK but dry. Spent over $50 here just to leave and eat again somewhere else. read more

I read all the reviews before going to eat at this place. We like to support our local restaurants. It was the most appalling food experience that I have experienced in the area. The restaurant is horrible inside, dark, the seats are uncomfortable and covered in some horrid plastic. The food is hard to describe, I ordered the fried chicken, we are in the South I mean really? It was like eating cardboard, flavorless, dry, plain bad, it came with coleslaw and mac & cheese, the coleslaw was the only edible dish. My husband ordered the blackened mahi mahi, served over black beans and rice, it was inedible, there is no way to describe this dish, it was awful and unappetizing to look at, he could not eat it. Service was a reflection of the restaurant. read more

The food was delicious, as was the dessert. My mom and I took my grandma there because she hadn't been yet and didn't like the idea of going to place that was "mean" . The cedar plank salmon was all it took to win her over. It was some of the best salmon we've ever had. Let's just say that we walked in, ordered some lunch, most of it was inedible, the server argued with us about our feedback . They comped the meal and we left hungry. Once again, we should have known better, Bradenton is known for the worst restaurants in the area and this reinforces our theory once again. read more

Stopped in on a Monday for lunch. We were greeted and seated promptly. Our server (Alexander) shared the specials and provided some nice bread service with delicious bourbon/maple butter. Today, I was the worst at remembering to take pictures... maybe that is because the food was so good! We started with the gator soup, wings that were on the special board and the escargot. I had the short rib with Thai peanut noodles. Delicious! My MIL ordered the Booth Bay pasta loaded with seafood. My MIL raved about everything especially the escargot and her pasta (I didn't try it as I am allergic to lobster). We got in Christmas eve. On Christmas day we went there. Thry had a limited menu which was fine. The waiter i think kind of forgot we were there. The food was expensive and not great...I asked another waiter about a drink he was bringing out. It looked good. He said it was the bomb. Well, I should have skipped it. I'm a MEAN DEANS fan. We shared the Short rib Tia Pasta and the Chicken Bang Bang bowel. They also give you warm rolls with flavor of the day orange honey sweet butter.Spouse said the short rib and Tia Pasta may be his favorite yet. Service is always great. Tara took great care of us as Meadow a delightful server had not come in yet. The meue was paired down post hurricanes. Even the poor sign was battered, it's just Mean. read more

Great food and awesome local beer menu. We have eaten here a few times now and it all been great down home cooking. Don't let the strip mall fool you, the inside is very spacious and decorated nicely with lots of neat looking artifacts. The wait staff is very helpful and friendly. They always made sure our drinks were full and checked on us to ensure everything was going as expected. Definitely recommend this great local dive! read more

Dined on Easter Sunday for dinner and loved the pre-set menu. Great options! I had the Chilean sea bass which was cooked to perfection and was the best seafood I had all weekend I was in Bradenton. Had to try the peanut butter pie for dessert which was SO good! Definitely a "share" dessert with how large and rich it was. Sierra, our server, was very attentive and did a great job. My grandparents had yet to try this place out and they said they'd be back! Highly recommend! read more

The waitperson said the sangria was house made and who were we to argue? More of a wine spritzer than sangria in my book. Had to try the blackened gator chowder which was light and tomato-y and not a thick white paste. The plank salmon soaked in the bourbon bath was fantastic and was moist with a citrus tang. The smothered clucker was indeed smothered and was nicely balanced with its neighborly sides. Service was not rushed and certainly worth a return visit. read more

Our first time at this great restaurant. Service was great--attentive and easy-going. Ambiance is simple and pleasing even as the restaurant is in a strip mall. Now, the food: we started with the Deconstructed Bruschetta. It was a perfect combination of tomatoes, garlic, basil, goat cheese with a balsamic drizzle to be eaten on the crispy crostini. My main was the Five Cheese Mac topped with Pulled BBQ Pork. It was the best pasta I've had in my many years of visiting relatives in the area. We topped it off with a shared slice of the Key Lime Pie--a delightful mix of tart and sweet. I'll definitely be coming back on future visits to Bradenton. Highly recommend. read more

Another amazing dinner at Mean Deans Local Kitchen had the mahi special with lobster cream sauce and my bf had the blackened mahi tacos which we also ended up topping with the lobster cream sauce. Started with the spin dip; to be honest it was pretty basic. But entrees were top notch as usual. Our server Leeroy was great super personable and very knowledgeable and not overbearing. Always around when we needed him! Good to see the place like almost completely full. Definitely check it out for lunch or dinner next time you get a chance! read more

We are new to the Bradenton scene - we have been here three times - it's got a cool local vibe - good menu with lots of daily specials - great staff - great bartender and loads of great options on the menu with daily specials - I don't want more people to go but wtf - its a good place worthy of more customers - try the Caesar with chicken - the tuna appetizer and the Mac and cheese - awesome sauce read more

They have a few mocktails to choose from, which is great because I don't drink alcohol. For an appetizer, I tried the beef carpaccio and caesar salad. For entrees, my table tried that ossobuco and the roasted filet tip risotto. For dessert, we tried the homemade tiramisu. My favorite was definitely the beef carpaccio. There is valet parking and a parking lot available. For dinner, reservations are recommended. They also have a weekday happy hour that you can check out.

When he did inquire how everything was, we started talking and he walked away from the table before we could even get two words out. The Voodoo shrimp, Fried Green Tomatoes, and bisque were delicious. The steaks were seasoned beyond belief to where you couldn't even taste the steak flavor, garlic mashed potatoes had zero flavor and tasted as though they were water logged. The "loaded" baked potato had about a teaspoon of toppings that I stretched out to cover the top. The asparagus was extremely thick, firm, and flavorless. A leader stopped by at the end of the meal to inquire, we politely gave feedback but there was a unbothered reception by the lead. "Next time" was used in her response. She did offer to put a new steak for my dad on the grill, but by this time we were at the end of our meal and at this point ready to leave. There are too many options in Sarasota and the area's Keys to visit with better food and service. Ultimately, the sides and apps are good but the steak quality especially for the prices cannot be justified. I've had a steak better meal at an Outback.

Great food, service and ambiance. We went there before seeing a show at Asolo theater. Admittedly the name was a draw, since my name is Dean too but, in all seriousness, the reviews and the menu looked great. The food was great. We had salads and goat cheese bruschetta to start, then smothered chicken and full rack of ribs for entree. The waitress was excellent and very personable. Been meaning to try this place for awhile, popped in the other night and was very pleased. Had the ahi tuna appetizer and my friend and I got the lobster lasagna and the ribs for our main dish. Ordered a well done burger with cheddar. Response "do you want to add cheese" , yes cheddar. Received a burger with no cheese and pink in the middle. Asked for mayo, never received. I've only been a handful of times, but this place has already become one of my favorite places to eat. Their shrimp is one of my favorites and their jambalaya has a kick to it that I can't find at other places.
