Found this little gem right across from Bronx Pizza. My friend and I got the Meat Lasagna (10.95) and the Veggie Lasagna (8.95) Both came out in a reasonable manner and both were very delicious. Fred came out to check on us to see if we were doing okay and we told him that Vanessa (our waitress) made us feel very welcomed. Love the ambience. Love how we don't need to go very far or dress up all fancy for some 5 star meal. And it's also reasonably priced. I've always wanted to try this restaurant but probably due to parking/traffic, I had overlooked it. That won't happen again! We ordered in for work today and we had a gyros in pita sandwich, 2 grilled chicken kabob combos and I had the grilled chicken kabob with Hummus combo. We called in the order and the man on the line was super nice. I was able to substitute extra salad for the Basmati rice- and the rice looked amazing but I was craving salad. Hummus was smooth and creamy-- delicious! The chicken kabobs were very generous and juicy, with some grilled zucchini between the thick chicken pieces. I'm too full to touch my salad but it looks wonderful- fresh and colorful. You could easily share with someone or take a container for great left overs. Long story short- delicious, huge portions make it a huge value, and friendly service that delivers free (I'm sure to specific areas- we're within 4 miles). This place is just good! I like it, it's comfortable, it's very reasonably priced and the food has been good every time I've been there. I visited here by the recommendation of a special friend. Upon walking in Med Cafe the feeling is very homey spacious warm and welcoming. The staff that was running the restaurant is also very welcoming. We were quickly seated and ordered our drinks. We were given the menus and our order was taken. The food quickly came out. It is located at a busy intersection, a bit hard to find parking on a rush hour. I had gyro and the mix appetizers plate. The appetizers are good, specially the eggplant, it had a roasted favor which I loved the most... the only thing was the falafel was kind of over fried!!! Little hard and burn. I visited this spot a little after they opened for lunch. I ordered a lunch special chicken kabob plate and personal Greek pizza. The kabob plate had great portions and the fries were hot n crisp. Flavor was great in the kabob pita wrap. It wasn't for me but I took a few bites and it had great flavor and it was hot and fresh. My only issue was the pizza. My pizza, it had an extremely thin crust that fell apart as you picked up a slice and the cheese wasn't melted enough to hold onto the toppings. There was also barely any sauce. My boyfriend & I had the dinner for 2 ($22.00) so much food. This is plenty of food for 2. You get a little taste of it all, and it all tasted so good. I ordered the lemon chicken soup. It was a pretty big bowl of soup that came with more pita. I didn't know what to expect with the lemon chicken soup. I didn't find the taste of lemon overwhelming. I can't compare to others lemon chicken soup but I liked it. As for the plate for 2 it came with so much food as you can read on the other reviews. My favorite was the chicken kabob and gyros. The beef kabob was a little rough and chewy. Overall all the food was good. The service was good. The guy working kept asking if we needed anything. read more

I wanted to like these guys I really did.. scoured yelp reviews prior to ordering-seemed decent. Lunch combo reasonably priced( 2 gyro combos that's what we ordered) Unfortunately, the meat was soggy + poorly seasoned(if at all) received rice instead of the fries and no utensils or napkins for the takeaway order. Sigh. Too late to return since we were out at a park. The tastiest item in the combo was the kalamata olives! My husband and I dined here the other night and brought a friend because we usually love the food and the generous portions. We live close by and have gotten food from here at least 30 times, especially during the pandemic closures when we wanted to make sure and support them. For the first time ever, we were *extremely* disappointed. We normally order the 'dinner for two' -- a plate with several types of meat and a variety of sides. We are very aware of how much food it usually is because of how often we've ordered it. We asked if we could pay more and make it a 'dinner for three.' The server said it would be no problem. When it came, the only extra thing compared to the 'dinner for two' was that we got one more chicken skewer. To make things worse, many of the sides were *even smaller* than they were for the 'dinner for two.' There was only about one tablespoon each of tabbouleh and hummus, and only about a half a cup (cooked, obviously) of rice and and half a cup of salad. Also, they charged us twice as much as they normally do for the 'dinner for two'! Then, apparently we were there right up until closing, so the server let us know they were closing and requested we go up and pay. That was fine, I understand that the staff needs to clean up and get home and that they don't need guests lingering around while they make that happen. But when we went up to pay immediately following her request and got excited about the desserts we saw and started ordering some to take home, the cook came out tapping his invisible wristwatch and told the server to tell us again that they were closing. That was rude and unnecessary. We were already paying and she only needed an additional ten seconds to pack up our desserts, meanwhile, they'd be making more money. What was the cook's problem exactly? Did he want us to leave without paying? Or did he not want her to spare those additional ten seconds? Very strange behavior. I've noticed a few other recent reviews on here mentioning that the quality has gone downhill recently, perhaps because of some new kitchen help or something. I'd have to agree it seems like that might the case and if so, it's a major problem that the owner/manager probably needs to address. We'll try once more and see how the 'dinner for two' comes out, but if we have a similar issue, we'll sadly have to stop giving them our business. read more

One of my favorite local Hillcrest places for a good quality and moderate priced dinner. Very casual cafe-like place. You place an order at the counter. All the food i ever tried here always fresh and flavorful. Try their dinner for 2 for 20 bucks that includes huge salad and skewers of chicken & beef, rice, falafel, hummus, baba ganoush and pita bread. Can't go wrong ! Love Love LOVE this place. Have ate at the restaurant one night on a whim and was to die for. The plate for two is amazing for the price and while the delivery is iffy, I have ordered about four or five times. I'd rather sit in if I felt like leaving my house some night lol I would have given them five start if the delivery were better. Tonight unfortunately they misread our order even though it was through eat24, and mistook the 16oz Hummus for tzatziki sauce.....how I don't know. Either way when I called we were told we would have to wait possibly another hour and a half after already waiting an hour and a half....so obviously this doesn't make for a happy foodie when that was the whole point of the order. Because we LOVE their hummus. I have yet to taste anything as good in San Diego or beyond. Also their hot pitas, kabobs, basmati rice and baklava are all great. Sooo bummer on us. Hope it will come soon. I would have liked a better situation but it was either this or call eat24 to deal with a refund or wait another time. Just from walking down the street, the cafe didn't seem very attractive from the outside. When I opened Yelp to find places to eat, I was surprised to find such great ratings of this place so I decided to give it a try. Loved the interior of the cafe!! The chairs and tables were so cute! However, the menu was pretty old and parts of it was kind of falling apart. I ordered the plate with the chicken kabob, gyros, and hummus. The chicken kabob wasn't bad, but it was a little dry. I also wasn't too much of a fan of the rice. The rice was really dry and didn't taste like anything. The yogurt dip was also a bit more sour than most that I've tasted. Overall, the dish tasted pretty decent, but I've had better. Seeing that most people loved the key lime pie, I wanted to try it too. Yup it was really good!! It was pretty expensive for one slice though...like $3.95. Don't forget to check in on Yelp for $2 off your entire bill! Also if ordered online with a maximum of $25, you get a free dessert! Restaurant: the interior of the restaurant looks like it has not been dusted in quite some time. There's an area on the floor, underneath the main counter that has dust and gunk galore! Olive oil and red wine vinegar dispensers are greasy and need to be wiped down. Misc: do not order water unless you like debris floating around in your glass. We ate here pretty late on a Friday about 40 minutes before closing. No one was there besides us. We asked for water and the cups were dirty. When we finally got our food, we found a hair in one of our meals. They did not come check on us to see how we were doing and honestly the food was just okay. I eat mediterranean food regularly and this place can definitely step it up besides their really poor hygiene. Also, when our waitress handed us the check she had her backpack and motorcycle helmet and left the restaurant immediately. I did not visit the cafe but ordered from Eat24 and the delivery was on time. The driver called me informing me that he had traffic to deal with so that was really nice of him to do that.
