Not too bad... but not five-star. I ordered online and went to pick up my order; it was ready to go with all the utensils, etc. The gyro was pretty standard... nothing bad, but nothing special. It was plenty big, though and made for a good meal. I got an order of dolmades as well... the 2-inch long stuffed grape leaves. This was more expensive than my gyro (!) and was a big production with four stuffed grape leaves and an entire plate of pita bread and salad. Unnecessary and expensive for what I got. I've been here for lunch twice in the last week and definitely did not get tired of their food. I had the gyro sandwich which is excellent because the thick slices of meat are moist and succulent. The sauce goes well with the flavor of the meat and the fresh toasty pita. The meal comes with a side salad and fries that are both pretty average, but the sandwich still shines. Definitely come here if you like mediterranean food and want to support a local place instead of a chain like Daphne's nearby. I stopped in here after reading good reviews on here and had a Dr.'s appt a few doors down. I ordered their gyro plate. I did think they were a bit stingy on the amount they give you on the meat portion. It was also a bit dry. If I compare it to a chain, which I don't like to do, but must because of the portion, I have to give the points to Luna Grill which really piles on the meat for their dishes. I did like how they give a generous portion of hummus and the crispiness of the pita slices. Good salad too. I also got $2 off for doing a Yelp check in. Thanks, that gave me a free ice tea! I liked this place overall, some of the dishes are really good while some others can be "not so good".My friend and I split the "dinner for 2" it was a LOT of food. I love that eggplant dip; it has some smoky flavor in it, and their yogurt sauce is one of the best I've had (it's not overpowered by the garlic). kebabs and gyros are good too, they are perfectly seasoned as I tend to find most gyro's too salty. The most important thing, it's comfortable to be there. It doesn't have the fast-food chain feeling nor the restricting feeling of the 'sit down' restaurants. Surprisingly awesome! The food is incredibly cheap and filling. The falafel is a little overdone, but that is more likely just my preference and you might like it more than I do. This place is a diamond in the rough. Food is fantastic, prices can't be beat, and the wait staff are super nice. I've been eating here for nearly two years and I've never had anything to complain about and food has always been exceptional. You need to try this place!!! A buddy and I came in to grab dinner and ending up loving it when we left. We ended up sharing the Dinner for Two platter which gave us the opportunity to try a bit of everything, and I'm glad we did because that platter took us on a magically tour across the Mediterranean, up the Aegean Sea, and dropped our asses right on the steps of the Parthenon! The beef was tender and flavorful, the chicken was juicy, and the gyro meat was everything I could have asked for. I will definitely never order food for delivery again. I ordered the gyro and beef skewer plate and I was disappointed by a couple things. The beef skewer was placed on top of the pita bread so by the time it got to me it was very soggy. After getting over that, I went to bite into the beef skewer and it was barely cooked on the inside and very chewy. I am not aware of many places that cook their beef rare (if you would even call it that), but I know next time to ask for medium so I can actually eat it. Came here for lunch with a friend to check it out, and we were pleasantly surprised :-) Hidden among a row of boring, if not even unattractive, store fronts off Washington, with a silly neon sign, I wasn't sure what I had suggested as a lunch spot, but it's very quaint inside. The guy who took our order was patient (we couldn't decide right away), and nice to talk with. The food came out quickly, was hot and freshly made, and everything was tasty. On the vegetarian plate, my fave was the falafal, and the tzatsiki sauce with some of the best pita bread around. However, the spanakopita was dry and flavourless, and I'm just not a big fan of green beans, so to put a bunch of lifeless green things in the rice didn't do it for me, but the salad was vibrant and fresh, and the falafal and hummous made up for it. My friend's chicken kabob looked great, and she gave it a thumbs up (and took 1/2 of it home). The drinks are like the cooler at the market check-out counter: sodas are in cans, and there's bottled water for ya. Seems to be a hit spot for locals to take a break from work midday. First time here, visiting from Boston, and wanted a good falafel. The restaurant definitely lived up to all the reviews. The chicken and beef kabob were my absolute favorite. Sooooo good. The falafel not my favorite dish but it was still good. The ordering part of it was a little awkward in the beginning. I've been coming here for years and it's the best Greek food I've found in San Diego. The hummus is the best I've ever had to date. Some people's reviews on here said they thought store bought hummus was better, all I can say is they must not have a discerned pallet. Something is going on at this establishment, but I can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's the dated frontage or the front entrance door that is left wide open when you enter because of the stagnate air inside . Perhaps it could be the filthy floors, exposed dust covered booths, or the dirty old sponge on top of the soap dispenser in the restroom. Could be the two cubes of ice in your water served in a recycled glass from an event you've never heard of or soda from a can. Also, might be the hodgepodge of decor that looks to date back to when the Fresh Price of Bell Air was popular. Whatever it is, it definitely takes a toll on your dining experience here before you even start to eat. As for the food...I ordered the chicken shawarma plate. It came with a tasty Greek salad, garlicky hummus, and pita. Although the chicken has a good flavor, I can assure you, it wasn't shawarma. Instead, it looked to be randomly cut pieces of chicken breast that was either fried or sauteed. Avoid.....My husband spent 8 hours at Scripps Green deathly ill after getting food poisoning from take out here. He had the chicken Kebab, which was obviously mishandled. I had the gyros and did not become ill. He was extremely ill and received two bags of fluid, antibiotics, sent home with 3 prescriptions, and was ill for an entire week. He suffered extreme nausea, diarrhea, high fever, and was in VERY bad shape. I suggest that this establishment take a long hard look at their kitchen. I would not wish this experience on anyone. A little hole in the wall Greek place in Hillcrest that's also rather close to other favorites in the area, such as Sushi Deli and Bronx Pizza. It's definitely cheaper than some of the other Mediterranean restaurants in the area, thus worth going to for the value if you're looking for something under $10. The food wasn't spectacular but it wasn't bad. I got the chicken kabob with hummus. The chicken was pretty good although the tzatziki sauce was rather bland. Unfortunately, the hummus was also bland. The only thing I could make out from it was the texture, but nothing for the taste. The pita bread wasn't bad but it's not as fresh and good as the ones from Olympic Cafe. The fries, on the other hand, were great! They sprinkled it with some seasoning so it was crisp and flavorful. The service is decent, although the food is slow in coming out. I really don't know why it takes so long for the food to arrive. But they do have a sign that says something along the lines of good food taking time to make as a small warning to customers of the wait. The gyros were tender, the kebobs were moist and the veggies were perfectly cooked. The rice is herbed which is a nice compliment to the meal and is also served with green beans. The tsaziki sauce is very garlicky, which is wonderful, especially on the fresh, hot pita. DH inhaled the baba ghanaj and the hummus was light and delicious, the perfect balance of lemon and garlic. The salad was plentiful (awesome!) and the main course included - beef kebab: cooked to medium or medium-well; not quite tender enough - chicken kebab: cooked and charred to perfection! yummy and tender - gyro meat: nothing special - two small falafel: nothing special - baba ghannouj (now which way should I spell that :): yummy!
