I'm usually in the vicinity due to Safeway and Arcane Comics and was watching Mediterranean Oasis coming to shape. I had another classic pair of workdays where it's not good be hangry. I decided to detour and check out this new business on my way home (8/21/18). And it's the instant cure I hoped it would be! Inhale...smells good in this grocery store with both a bakery and kitchen onsite. Friendly, welcoming gentleman that greeted me when I entered. I wandered the aisles while he helped another mom carrying a baby. Peered at the freezer, refrigerated cases and all the featured products on the shelves. I like wandering ethnic grocery stores trying to guess what it is or used for. It is still a work in progress, but the shelves were full of product. Cookware, tea sets, serving sets, flatware, beauty products, textiles, ad naseum. I was so ecstatic that I even phoned another Yelper from out of state! Make sure you also take a look at their menu. Plenty of seating to dine in or menu items available for takeout. The homemade pita and hummus are standouts. Fresh side salads. Flavorful rice. Nicely grilled meats. Entree platters, a la carte, and side items available. Generous portions at great prices. I'm glad they've opened their shop so close to home. Grab a tea set or creamy nougat candy with pistachios. Such a great Middle Eastern marketplace find. Looks a lot like Droubi's in Houston. If you are hungry, order a platter or a sandwich. Falafel platter with hummus, smoky baba ganoush, and salad was fresh and filling. Salad was full of cucumbers, tomatoes and feta cheese. The chicken shawarma, falafel and gyro/lamb sandwiches were good as well. French fries remind me of the restaurant that my in-laws ran before they retired over a decade ago. I was making a yarn run to the Joann's next door and decided to stop into Mediterranean Oasis on a whim. What a lucky impulse to have followed because this place is great. I have been there twice now trying their pita, babaganoush, chicken and walnut salad, and this spicy dip that I'm forgetting the name. Each dish was fantastic, truly some of the best dips I've ever had. The other thing though is that the gentleman at the register is so kind and generous. Wow! We had forgotten how great this place is. Nothing to look at but clean & tidy! We ordered the gyro platter and split it. We both left stuffed. More importantly we scraped our plates with the pita bread to get up every bit of the aioli and tzatziki sauces. Both were outstanding. Right up there was the cucumber & tomato salad. Ordered lamb & beef gyro sandwich. Instead of receiving what looked like two halves of the pita with the filling inside, we got the filled tucked into a half folded pita. It was was a lot smaller than a typical gyro and what was pictured :( Overall the food was ok, same with the hummus but nothing crazy. I went to Mediterranean Oasis with a friend today for lunch, our first time there. Our falafel sandwich and falafel salad were both very good. Service was fast and friendly. But the very uncomfortable thing was that, with the temperature under 45 degrees outside, the double doors were standing wide open throughout. We wanted to continue our conversation, but soon we had our coats and even gloves on. I spoke to the employee, saying that we were FREEZING. He then spoke to the owner (I presume), who told me that he would warm the place up. HE had a coat and hat on! However, we stayed about 20 minutes longer, and the doors stayed wide open, so of course the place was not one degree warmer. Very customer-unfriendly! I will not go back. read more

Been coming here for a few years now and it seems to have really gone downhill very fast. Got the gyro platter and gyro sandwich. The meat was really dry and I'm guessing from yesterday or maybe earlier in the day. Pretty tasteless especially compared to just a month ago when I ate here last. It was also barely lukewarm when I picked it up. I ordered while at Joanne's next door so it's not like I was far away and it took me a long time to pick up either. Not sure what changed suddenly but it's completely different now. I may try one more time in case it was just a bad day but it may be a while before I try again. I tried their shawarma today the meat was really good the seasoning was just on point and the rice was very flavorful but I could not finish the hummus it tastes like salty tahini and the salad was somewhat fresh. I have been reticent to write this review not because I don't less-than-three Mediterranean Oasis but because I don't want an influx of customers coming in and ruining this north side gem. MO has become my go-to place for fresh pita because they bake them on site. I have gotten them shortly after they've emerged from the ovens and they are truly delicious. They stock loads of tea, bagged and loose leaf. I also really like their assortment of snacks and sweets. If I recall correctly, there are around 10-12 small tables in the dining area beside the kitchen. I've usually seen half of them occupied but most people seem to stop in for the pita or their takeaway orders. We've bought fresh hummus from them and it was delicious. It came garnished with whole chickpeas, olive oil, parsley, and smoked paprika. He also gave us extra pita rolled up in foil - a total bargain for $5. And I keep meaning to try their falafel or one of their shawarma platters, both look truly delectable. Employees have always been pleasant. Sometimes parking can be tight right in front so park and walk, if you are able to do so. On my last visit, I commented about how good the baklava looked, one of the guys gave me a small piece to try. read more

The side salad was fresh and used good quality, flavorful olive oil! The chicken swarma and the rice were well seasoned and generously portioned! The hummus was tasty and not overly strong in flavor, perfectly paired with the pita. Staff are always warm, and friendly. Yesterday, my mom and sister stopped by Mediterranean Oasis for dinner also, and the staff are always warm and accommodating of my family and their disability needs. Multiple tables are wheelchair accessible and staff are very professional and kind even when my sister comes in on the grouchy hangry side in her wheelchair. The Mediterranean Oasis and their staff has played an important part in my family's regaining a sense of normalcy post pandemic. Seating is nicely spread out, and tables are spacious. It's half restaurant, half grocer. The grocery store has ghee (clarified butter) and frozen sharwma meats that's pretty good! Not as good their own in house, freshly made meats of course but good in a pinch. We don't live too close but when we swing by, we get a cup of hummus to go. It's healthy and delicious. This place is a hidden little Mediterranean gem! It's located in the same little plaza as Joanns on aurora. From the outside it looks like a grocery store, which it is. They have a restaurant inside. The menu is bright and easy to read. The guys inside are friendly, but the food is AMAZINGLY DELISH!!! Flavors are so tasty!! In the past two weeks I've stopped in about 4 times. Don't let the looks of the place scare you away. Upon visiting it doesn't look like much and most of the grocery store side was dysfunctional but the kitchen is serving up a pretty decent Lamb Shawarma. Add garlic and hot sauce for sure! Unfortunately they had to close down when COVID came around. Then, a new owner re-opened the place in August 2022. It was my first time back today and oh my gosh, better than ever! Lamb kabob with freshly made pita, rice and a gorgeous fresh salad with the most amazing dressing! We also sampled the chicken kabob, and baklava for desert.
