I took my cat here a couple of years back during Covid because at midnight, she started vomiting and crying in pain. I've never been to an animal ER before. I Uber over there, and all the doors are locked, and I can see an empty waiting room with chairs through the windows. The waiting room is not available during covid. They have some plastic lawn chairs outside but mind you it's 1:00am and it's winter and snowing and like 10 degrees outside. I'm cold and scared and frantic bc I don't know what's wrong with my cat, and I'm locked outside in the cold in the other end of town in the middle of the night. There's a security guard, and I knock on the locked door. He won't open the door or speak a word to me. He just points to a sign to call a number, and he looks mean. I call the number, wait on hold forever, and finally get someone. We talked for about half an hour about her history and what was wrong, and then she told me they could see me in 12 hours! I'm at an ER and can't be seen for 12 hours and can't wait in a waiting room. Her normal vet opens at 7am... so I Uber back and call my vet at 7 am and get an appointment right away. We took our dog, Tiger, in after she accidentally ingested glass. The first emergency vet we took her to was ready to do surgery immediately, and I'm so glad we went to the specialists at MedVet for a second opinion. Dr. Schnabl was so kind, thoughtful and compassionate with Tiger's care -- he took the time to speak to us multiple times a day and work through various options to try to avoid surgery (which, so far, has been effective). He was transparent in laying out his recommendations, and it really felt like he cared so deeply about trying to help us make the right decisions. I will be forever grateful to MedVet, as I wholeheartedly believe they saved our cats life. She had a scary hypoglycemic episode and after running into the emergency department in hysterics at 9pm on a Sunday, we were treated by very calm yet quick to ask staff who asked the base of questions they needed to know to get our cat seen and stabilized. Within 10 minutes of arriving we were informed that she was under treatment and already taking a positive turn. The doctor explained everything so throughly with us and had a honest and empathetic conversation to address our concerns with cost and future options. They coordinated with our regular vet thoroughly and I cannot be more thankful. YES it is expensive. I'm not here to tell you what to do with your pets but I would say that if you need immediate care that could be life threatening, use it for that. YES you may need to wait. They triage animals just like in any emergency department. We were seen right away because it was life threatening but do note that it can get very busy here and they triage due to risk and priority. For the sake of our cat, we truly hope we never have to step foot into MedVet again but if we had to I would feel comfortable returning! read more

MEDVET NEGLIGENCE & INCOMPETENCE KILLED MY DOG. On 9/29/24, my beloved dog Patrick was hospitalized in the ER to be monitored for respiratory difficulties/distress after a mucous plug blocked his airway earlier in the day. A treatable condition he was diagnosed with days earlier left him at an elevated risk of such obstructions. Close monitoring & delicate care was needed as he awaited an appointment with a specialist the next day to begin treatment. An evening update let me know Patrick had done well all day and could go home. I arrived to pick him up, and after waiting almost an hour, he was brought out. Patrick exited treatment held by a tech from across the lobby; I could see that he was choking. Upon approach, it was clear he was already in extreme distress. Struggling in the tech's arms, gasping for air, excessively salivating, gums completely white. I said he was not breathing well and needed a vet. I was told he was cleared for discharge as the oblivious tech began reviewing discharge instructions. Again, I said he was choking and needed help. Patrick's terrified eyes were wide with panic as he thrashed about. I was told he was just happy to see me. Repeated pleas for help were met with blank stares from the tech & receptionist, precious minutes wasted. It was horrifying & surreal. An employee across the room finally ran over and rushed him back for aid. It was too late. Almost as soon as he made it back to treatment, his heart stopped. The vet who informed me of his death did not care for him during the day, admitted they were not very familiar with his case, and could not answer my questions with any certainty. Thousands of dollars were charged for MedVet to monitor my Patrick and render aid if needed. Records should have been sent to his regular vet immediately. After repeated requests, records sent two days later DID NOT INCLUDE THAT HE PASSED AWAY. More calls questioning why his death was not recorded initially in his record resulted in "updated" records being sent. Patrick's risk of developing another airway obstruction was high, needing constant monitoring. Record reviews indicate he was only checked every 1-2 hours, with one gap in monitoring of 5 HOURS while there. The process of retrieving his remains was even more delayed and mistake-riddled. There is no doubt his death was due to gross negligence. The INEPTITUDE of a tech not recognizing the difference between an excited dog and a distressed one is mind-blowing. The lack of concern and care expressed by the vet, who declared him deceased, was chilling. No follow-up, outreach, or apology from MedVet after the event. There was no acknowledgement that PATRICK WAS PRESENTED AS STABLE AND READY FOR DISCHARGE IN MORE GRAVE CONDITION THEN INITIALLY BROUGHT IN. I left MedVet that evening, not with my treasured companion as expected, but with a million "what ifs," and the horrible image of my dog's terrified, panicked face burned into my brain as he struggled and suffered through his last moments of life that will haunt me forever. My final memory of him was his eyes desperately pleading for help in a building filled with people who should have helped him but did not. I pray my sweet boy can rest in peace because he certainly did not die in peace at MedVet. It's hard to fully describe all the ways MedVet failed Patrick in the character limit allowed here. Inevitably, after-hours or urgent care is needed several times a year. I've experienced an alarming decline in quality of care since MedVet acquired Chicago Veterinary Emergency Services. I rue the day that I left my beloved Patrick in their care and recommend avoiding MedVet ER at all costs. Do not be fooled by the swanky aesthetics. This place is whack. Waited 2.5 hours and ended up farther down on the triage list than when I came in, even after several other people in front of us gave up and left. I saw so many sick animals not get the help they needed. At the end they were telling people it was a 6-8 hour wait. Apparently they only had one doctor working on a busy Friday. Finally got fed up myself and drove down to VEG in Lincoln Park. They brought us back and saw us right away. I counted at least 4 doctors working there. Took my dog there for Physical Therapy after ccl surgery, done elsewhere, and they immediately said the surgery had to be redone by them. I went back to the hospital that did the surgery in the first place and mentioned their concerns and multiple X-rays at great cast to me showed everything was normal. They are lying crooks that try to upsell you at every opportunity. I prepaid for five therapy sessions which they refused to refund. Avoid at all costs. Had to take my dog there after she collapsed and I didn't know what was wrong. I walked in and they took her immediately back for triage. They kept me updated and while the news was bad, she had heart failure, they were able to save her and get the Fluid from her lungs. They kept her overnight in ICU and kept me updated over the phone. The next day she was able to see a cardiologist and he was able to put her on some meds to help her. What's more he spent about 45 min explaining everything to us and making sure we understood the good and the bad. It wasn't cheap, but I felt they all took great care of her and I was so thankful they paid that much attention to me dog as a member of my family. Would highly recommend if this is an emergency. Think of this as a dog er. If you go without an emergency, yes you may wait to be seen, just like a human er. read more

I wish I didn't have to write this review, but I do. Our sweet dog very suddenly lost control of his rear legs and became paralyzed literally overnight with no warning signs. He was in considerable pain, and we came to find out he had IVDD and a disc had ruptured in his back which was causing tremendous pain and paralysis. We rushed him into MedVet, and he was seen immediately upon us carrying him in. The diagnosis was swift and upsetting, but we knew he was in the right place. The neurologist on duty ordered an MRI and based on that, our dog was rushed into immediate emergency surgery with a 30% chance of him walking again. Despite potentially awful possibilities that I won't even get into, the surgery was a huge success, and we were able to visit him the next morning. We saw the behind the scenes parts of MedVet, and the facilities and staff are truly world class. The care they give to all the needy animals is beautiful, and I knew our dog was in the best place for what he needed at that moment. They kept him on site for a few more days of rest and observation before we could take him home. Our discharge meeting with a staff member named Roland was intense and very informative. We knew it was a long road to recovery, but we had MedVet fully in our corner for this journey. It was super challenging at times, but with visits for checkups, phone calls for advice, acupuncture, and very intense physical therapy sessions with the amazing staff on site, our sweet dog not only walked again, but he can even run and play like before (but we definitely limit activity per doctor's orders). I am so happy to say he's doing absolutely incredible. If you didn't know he was paralyzed, I don't think you'd suspect a thing. Truly incredible work from Dr Niemann, the physical therapy team, and the entire MedVet staff. There is no place I'd rather take my pet for an emergency than here. My kitten had severe diarrhea, wasn't eating, and had lost all his energy. After his symptoms worsened, I called a few vets nearby and one recommended MedVet as a local option that would be able to see him day of/quickly. The check in process was almost immediate and easy. The wait was like a traditional emergency room where they treat the most critical cases first. After speaking with the vet, we ended up leaving Keanu overnight with an IV. The vets and other employees kept me in the know the whole time and gave me a lot of options. The place is open 24/7 so I was able to call in the early AM hours to check on his well-being. There was a possibility that my kitten might need surgery and when I said I couldn't afford it they were very accommodating and even helped with recs. Keanu is home now and is back to eating and playing. MedVet is a bit pricy but I am beyond grateful for the care he received. I always felt like he was in great hands with people who actually cared about my kitty! Happy to be back to be back to cuddling! Yazmin and Doctor Moll were beyond helpful! I made an appointment for our golden retriever, Maya, about 6 weeks ago with a specialist at MedVet for her nosebleeds. Lisa, the technician, met us at the front desk and took us to our room, where she asked about Maya's health history and diet. Dr. Taylor then examined Maya in the back and returned to discuss her condition with me. She answered all of my questions, and we decided to do blood work before proceeding with a CT scan and biopsies. Lisa absolutely loved Maya, even getting some love from her. A few months ago my English bulldog was having issues with pneumonia so we took him to Medvet one morning when he was having a very hard time breathing. It was a very scary time we were first time dog owners and he was only 4 months old. We had a plan in action to fight the pneumonia but that morning his breathing was very bad so we decided we needed to take him to the hospital. The doctor told us "if we don't do surgery then he will die" this were her literally words. Imagine how we felt at that moment it was so scared but the surgery costed 10-12k and it was not guaranteed he would be fully cured and healthy afterwards. We we're devastated but could not afford that without the guarantee he'd be healthy afterwards so we took a chance and took him to a vet recommended by a friend we ended up not having to do any surgery and Louis is 1 year old now and healthy!! Shame on Medvet for trying to scare us into paying thousands of dollars without any guarantee of his health. They just want your money unfortunately!! This is him today. read more

I've been to med vet before but it's gone downhill. The wait to be seen this week was over 3 hours (I'll skip the whole middle) long story short, after four hours and a very sick dog they send me home wit meds (after I asked if they could be sent to Walgreens) but no invoice and just a link to pay. I paid when I got home then asked for an invoice. I got the invoice and was charged $367 for cough meds that would have been $25 at Walgreens!! This is predatory, I was exhausted and worried and not given a heads up on the cost or even a choice, I've tried to reach out to MedVet with no response. We have another emergency vet in town, go there as they have a better reputation, I know I will. read more

Last month our sweet boy went limp, and after rounds of labs they officially diagnosed our dog with Leptospirosis. Unfortunately our dog was NOT vaxxed for it since it is not required during annual vet checkups like rabies. The doctor said his odds of survival were "guarded". As in the ball is in our court. As scary and stressful as it was to talk about our "options" we decided to give treatment a try. Treatment did cost us a week hospital stay, plus many meds after discharge, but in the end medvet saved our dogs life! (This is your sign to get your dog vaxxed for it AND get pet insurance!) The treatment process was long, but worth it! We're so grateful for medvet, and their incredible team for caring for our sweet boy! Because of them he gets to meet his baby sister pretty soon! I cannot thank the staff at MedVet enough for their kindness and professionalism. I brought my mother and her 16 year old mix breed here last night after a long struggle with end of life symptoms. She took a turn for the worse and we knew it was her time. The staff was very kind and patient. I also brought my 14 year old beagle here about a year ago, in the evening after he'd had a stroke. He'd had several seizures throughout his life as well so this hit him particularly hard. The staff was very professional and informative with discussing options, and ultimately they were very kind during his last moments with us. The were there late and open when we would have had no other options and they were great to us and our beloved pets. read more

This place is the absolute worst. I have gone here 3 times over the course of 5 years because they're close but I will never go back. The wait time is awful and the last time I was there was the absolute worst, I was treated cruelly and rudely. My pup had gotten into a plant and was throwing up blood. After waiting 3-4 hours just to get in, the doc said something to me like - did she get into something? I repeated that the dog had gotten into a plant, which she had just read from the intake form. I said, well, besides the plant I suppose she could have gotten into something I didn't know about. The doc then says, 'Thanks for being honest' and gave me a weird look up and down. When the ultrasound came back, it just showed that her stomach was inflamed and not blocked by anything. Not sure why a professional would make accusations without having any proof to support their suppositions. Again, dog was a puppy at the time. And I TOLD her the dog gotten into a plant. Right after she read it off the intake. Truly bizarre. They had someone else reading the results of her ultrasound so I believed that because anything that vet said clearly could not be counted on. Then I was treated very rudely by the staff member that was supposed to do the discharge. Apparently, she had just gone through something upsetting but I hadn't eaten any dinner, it was nearly midnight and had an anxious and hungry pup yet she acted like I was supposed to care for her. When I told her that I needed to get out of there, she rudely snapped that I couldn't even though the doc had told me that I could. I waited another hour before she came back. Upon reflection, I just should have left and refused to pay the bill because they didn't tell me anything I didn't already know - that the plant had upset my dog's stomach and to go to the vet. Such a waste of time and then to be treated rudely on top of it...will never go back and will always...ALWAYS...tell people to go somewhere else because some key staff are outrageously incompetent and rude there. I'm so surprised by the positive reviews - everyone I've come across has had experiences like mine. The other 2 times I had to put pets down - the first time all of the staff were great. The second time, the vet pressured me to put her down there in the office when I said I wanted an in-home euthanasia and have always regretted that. The last pet I had to put down I did in-home euthanasia and highly recommend. Do NOT let them talk you into something you do not want. I've learned to always have a plan and that you can call an in-home euthanasia service ahead of time and see how long it will be until someone is available - usually within 24-48 hours. I tend to have 2-3 pets at a time so unfortunately, I have had to face this several times lately as they all became seniors at about the same time. read more

I came here almost 3 years ago. I see that they relocated to California Avenue from Clybourn. I REALLY like the new, huge wait room with much more comfortable seats, and the fact that it is separated with dogs and cats on separate sides. (what do they do with other animals?) Our kittums was going outside the box and whining, signs of another UTI. Our regular vet was not available (AHEM, HYDE PARK ANIMAL Hospital was open on Stony Island but has NO DOCTORS ON SUNDAY, and their anti-social lobby is closed, so with no car, we either have to rent a car all day or stay in that tiny holding cell of a foyer). Anyway, this was the opposite, we registered and waited in the lobby, and after 2 HOURS a vet assistant came to us and spoke to us IN THE LOBBY, and quickly examined her before taking her to the back. We were told it could be another 3-4 HOURS before a doctor would see her! It is an ER but seriously?? Apparently we came on a busy Sunday morning. Our cat was ok, not happy but not in duress. We were NOT allowed to come with, but they assured us she was in all-cat, quiet area, where she could move around and not be stuck in the carrier. They advised us to walk around the area, run errands, eat lunch, etc. cause it would be a long while. There is a parking lot but we took a Lyft/Uber instead of renting a car all day. It is a business/residential area where one can get coffee, shop at Target, Dollar Tree, eat lunch, etc. Other patients were very helpful in advising us where to go in the area! We left for 3 or so hours to shop and eat. The staff was friendly and helpful whenever we asked for updates, but I have to say 5-6 hours to see a doctor is ridiculous! They finally 'added' a doctor around 2pm! Seriously? We arrived around 10am! We never saw the doctor but just spoke to him via phone. As much as I appreciated the large clean waiting room and clean bathroom, I was not happy hearing dogs barking and whining. They HAVE to add more doctors on the weekends! The vet assistant told us they had several emergencies that were critical, so that was probably why it was so long. read more

I had a wonderful experience with the team at MedVet. My cat passed away in his sleep and we brought him here for cremation. The staff was compassionate and helpful and we were helped immediately. We tried to go here a few nights ago in the middle of the night and didn't have a great experience calling in so we ended up going to another vet. We called from the road with our injured pet in hand and the person who answered was rude throughout the process, really at every step of the way. We decided to still drive all the way there though thinking we wouldn't have much choice and the people must not be all bad if they want to work with animals. When we got there we called again - due to covid no one goes in, which we get - but we got rude treatment over the phone again too. When they told us to pull around to a spot for another - THIRD - call while there was only one other car there, we started looking up other vets. We called Veterinary Emergency Group, a new place at North/Halsted and we were on the phone with a tech then a doctor within seconds, getting compassion and attention and care that we were hoping for. We sped away from the emergency room parking lot to head to Vet Emergency Group, who took care of our pup quickly and professionally. I'm sure Medvet does good work for some people and their pets but we didn't get a good feeling on the phone so we had to go elsewhere. read more

I took my dog into Medvet chicago to get him neutered. I had a consultation and at the end of the consultation they gave me an estimate of $5,500 to neuter my dog I was absolutely shocked I've never seen a vet charge more than $500. I asked how they can justify being roughly 20x as expensive as other vets performing the same procedure and they said their surgeons are board certified I'm sorry aren't all surgeons certifie? then on the way out they stopped me and charged me $220 just for the consultation that brings the total to $5720 to get my dog fixed! we are currently scheduled at a different vet for $250 for the procedure. Medvet is a scam and they obviously could care less about taking care of animals or their human customers it is absolutely sickening! read more

Our beloved feline companion, Milo, arrived at MedVet in great distress and we made the difficult decision to transtion him. The team here is incredibly kind and compassionate. They allowed us to wait for family members to arrive to say goodbye, and Milo was treated with dignity and respect. Our hearts are broken today; it will take time to heal from our 14-year relationship with Milo, but we are grateful for the care that was extended to him and us. I would like to take this time to thank Medvet once again. In 8 months they have come to my rescue yet again. My dearest and sweet feline Paris has transitioned. I am sitting here with such a heavy heart knowing that he was in mourning from loosing his adopted canine mother name Angel, whom we lost 8 months ago. They were inseparable for 14 years and once Angel left us, Paris just wasn't the same. The only thing that is keeping me at peace is knowing that they are now together again. I was referred to MedVet by my regular vet for my senior cat who has been diagnosed with a tumour. I had an appointment with Dr Mark Byrum who was incredibly compassionate. He explained things clearly, in detail, and with empathy. There was also no aggressive pushing of expensive treatments or medications. I would definitely recommend Dr Byrum for oncology needs for your pet. The vet tech was also wonderful and caring, taking time to listen with empathy and understanding. The facility is lovely and very calming. I appreciated the separate waiting area for cats - which was also more private for me to gather myself and emotions. read more

During the scariest and more painful weekend of our lives, Dr. Hopping and Dr. Teslenkya treated our dog, Kona, like she were their own. We brought Kona in for consumption of dark chocolate. The vet tech, Michelle, put us at ease.They took her in immediately and induced vomiting. Dr. Teslenkya was transparent with us about costs, risks and gave us full decision over whether to hospitalize her overnight. To be safe, we decided to hospitalize her overnight. Though Kona was having a rough time, she seemed to be much better the following day. We thought we'd have her home by the next day. Unfortunately, she took a very bad turn that evening. Dr. Teslenkya called us right away to talk us through everything. The following morning Dr. Hopping called us to talk us through all of it again. They both made sure we fully understood the situation and our options. Throughout the day Dr. Hopping called us to give us update and talk through things. They thought that the toxins from the chocolate may have uncovered an underlying neurological condition. We were part of the process every step of the way. When things took an even worse turn, with seizures and possible brain damage, Dr. Hopping mentally prepared us for what might happen if things were untreatable. Though we were devastated to think about this outcome, we really appreciated Dr. Hopping bringing it up early so that we had the time and space to process. Unfortunately, after Dr. Hopping and Dr. Teslenka did everything in their power to support Kona, it was time for us to say goodbye. Dr. Teslenkya and MedVet were gracious enough to allow us to come in to see Kona though they are following very strict COVD-19 protocols. We sat with Kona, continued to talk through all the options with Dr. Teslenka, and made the decision to say goodbye. It was truly one of the most painful choices we had to make in our lives but we felt so informed and at peace with the decision thanks to the immense care and compassion of Dr. Teslenka. Dr. Teslenka talked us through the euthanasia process so we were fully prepared. We sat with our baby, snuggling her and telling her how proud we were of how hard she fought. Though we are experiences so much sadness, we felt cared for and informed the entire way. We were always encouraged to call whenever we had any questions or just wanted to check in on Kona. We received multiple calls in a day to update us and talk us through everything happening. We have been able to find peace in all of this because we were there the whole way, with all of the possible information and given choices to make. I've never left a review and don't really plan to leave another one. But this is important enough that I feel like I have to. MedVet is a truly awful place, and I will always regret that I did not have the time to find a more competent and compassionate provider for my dog through his battle with cancer. Some of the vet techs are decent, but otherwise I cannot find anything redeeming to say about MedVet. It is cold and corporate, and that is the kind of care your pet will get. But I'm most disturbed with the experience I had with Dr. Mark Byrum and the MedVet Cancer Center, and I'm leaving this review as a service to anyone else who might be able to find a better alternative for their loved one. Dr. Byrum is well educated, and I don't question the value of his clinical experience. And in his defense, my dog had an extremely rare cancer, but I got the sense that Dr. Byrum was too lazy or uninterested to bother doing any research on it. In a case like that, I think it's the responsibility of a doctor to educate himself, but Dr. Byrum developed a plan based on his assumptions and what little he already knew about it. When I would ask questions, Dr. Byrum would get annoyed and lecture me about how he'd "already explained it before." At other times, I would ask about basic things that any oncologist should know, and he would give me bad advice or the wrong answers. For example, I asked in the beginning about the possibility of giving my dog a steroid with his cancer treatments to help deal with the GI side effects, and Dr. Byrum told me that would be perfectly fine. Later, when I asked my dog's regular vet about it, she looked into it and found that there were potentially dangerous interactions between steroids and one of his meds (piroxicam). When I mentioned this to Dr. Byrum, he denied ever having the conversation. I don't know if he was embarrassed or just that careless. There were other questionable things. Dr. Byrum suggested on several occasions that my dog's vet had somehow contributed to his cancer. Aside from the fact that there was absolutely nothing to gain from hurling that kind of accusation, I know it was not true because, unlike Dr. Byrum, my dog's vet is the smartest and most competent I have met. Most offensive of all, I think, was when one of my dog's chemo treatments--along with that of every other dog under his care--had to be postponed by a week because Dr. Byrum went on vacation. When I asked how this was possible, why someone else could not fill in for him, and whether they would think it appropriate to delay a human cancer patient's treatment because someone was on vacation, my concerns were dismissed and I was told that, since Dr. Byrum was going on vacation, the entire department would be closed for a week. Later, when I was sitting in the office waiting for my dog to receive his delayed treatment, I heard Dr. Byrum chatting happily with somebody about his lovely trip to the mountains. I could offer many other examples of why, if I'd had the chance, I would have taken my dog somewhere else. If I had known then what I know now, I probably would have taken the chance anyway, because the care my dog received from Dr. Byrum and the MedVet Cancer Center was a shameful and incompetent insult to me and, more importantly, to my best friend. read more

We took our furbaby there on Thursday evening after our 16 year old suffered what we believed to be siezure, he has never had one before. We called when we were on our way, to inform ourselves, as to possible cost and what to do, given this was new to us and we were coming from a distance. The guy on the phone wasn't much help, but told us it would be 200.00 automatically just to look at him, not including anything else. We finally arrive, there were 2 very unfriendly, not warm people sitting in the front, we were registered,and in the waiting area there were 3 different families with their furbabies, so we figured shouldn't be too bad of a wait. After 3 hours of sitting there, we asked the female sitting in the front , how much longer, she said we were next up (an older man complaining of sitting there for hours as well with a sick dog and nothing as well) ... Well at the 4th hour of still sitting there, our baby was thirsty, tired and just ansy (they told us in the beginning not to give him any water which is fine, but after 4 hours C'mon) , and we were exhausted, he was stable already, so we left without ever being seen, the older man was still sitting there as well. They showed no compassion, it was actually a very terrible, exhausting experience a waste of trip and time. The following day we took him to another hospital in Fox River, he was seen, had labs, treated,sat with the doctor and sent home with meds and gave us a pill cutter, all for UNDER 300.00 and less than 2 hours total!!! You guys really need to do better with staff , timing, consideration for pet parents,that are nervous and in desperate need of help.. so disappointed with the entire experience there!!!! read more

This review is for INTERNAL MEDICINE at MedVet with DR. ASHLEY GOLD. In February 2021, my husband and I were advised that our 11 year old cat, Moe, has a drippy nose that could be caused by something serious. We were referred to MedVet and a couple other specialty clinics at the time and were lucky enough to get into MedVet within 24-hours of calling, totally by chance. Other clinics were booking months out. Upon arrival for our appointment, we texted the internal medicine desk to inform them of our arrival. A couple quick questions and Moe was taken in. Due to COVID, we could not enter (totally understandable). The vet tech, Sarah, was very friendly and helpful. About 10-minutes later, Dr. Gold called to learn more about Moe's symptoms, share her initial thoughts, and recommend tests. She spent about 20 minutes on the phone with us discussing options. My husband was laid off due to COVID, and Dr. Gold ensured us she would do everything she could to keep costs down (which she did). While the final bill did end up being expensive, we are grateful for her efforts. Dr. Gold ran tests on Moe and we were able to pick him up that evening. I want to say a huge THANK YOU to Dr. Gold and the internal medicine team. While all this was going on, I had a family emergency and we had to quickly relocate to the Carolinas. I kept Dr. Gold in the loop as our life changed and she followed up with immense empathy and kindness. While she had to deliver bad news (Moe has cancer), she helped us every step of the way, even when it came to getting medications shipped to us in the south and getting a referral for an oncologist in the Carolinas. Dr. Gold and the internal medicine team are very professional, caring, and empathetic. They truly care about Moe and about us. My husband and I are so thankful to have found them and would gladly recommend to anyone looking for an internal medicine specialist. read more

I have a soft spot for special needs pets, so when our FIV+ cat (Mel) developed symptoms of hyperesthesia, I wasn't fazed. Hyperesthesia is a diagnosis of exclusion; it causes our cat's skin to flinch & ripple when touched. The sensation it causes can lead to self mutilation, which was true in Mel's case. We tried many meds and tests, he even wore an e-collar for months. Eventually we settled on comfort vests, which worked well enough for 4 years until we started seeing sores reappear. Mel sees Dr Aufox, one of the vets in the dermatology practice. The new facility seems nice from the outside, due to Covid I've never been inside. The intake forms were some of the most thorough I've seen. Mel was put on a special diet, steroids & an anti-seizure med. After a few months we were able to pet him, brush him & take off his vest without triggering a physical reaction. For every appointment we get 3-4 follow up calls. The only hiccup I've seen is getting a refill outside of a visit, it took several conversations to discuss Mel's progress and a few felt repetitive. I'm not going to lie, this place isn't cheap, but the care he gets is top notch. I can only speak for the dermatology practice, but MedVet has greatly improved Mel's quality of life and that I can't put a price on. read more

My boyfriend and I took our cat to MedVet this morning (on a Saturday) and there was literally no wait time. From the receptionists, to the vet, to the vet tech, everyone was so helpful and kind. They answered all of our questions thoroughly and were able to diagnose/treat very quickly. The cost was, in my opinion, very reasonable -- especially for the high standard of care our cat received. This review is for the Cancer Center (specialty medicine) only. Absolutely top-notch care and consideration both for me and my cat. I was afraid to come here after a devastating experience with Emergency during the thick of covid, but my reservations about the Cancer Center were unfounded. Dr. Victoria Lopez-Aldazabal took an incredible amount of time to educate me on my cat's health and explain his results, and never once did I feel she was rushing. I've never had such a thorough discussion with a vet, even with my usual clinic, and she was very compassionate with me despite what I imagine was obvious high anxiety on my part. From the second we walked in, literally every person (vet techs, reception, etc.) was so sweet to my Percy. They even gave my cat a tiny dose of sedative (with my permission) solely to "take the edge off" and make sure he was as relaxed as possible while we waited for an ultrasound. Leaving a beloved pet at a vet's office for any amount of time is extremely distressing, especially when you've had a recent loss, so this consideration for his comfort meant a tremendous amount to me. And they did all of this without even knowing about my past at ER! While our wait at the office was long, I understand why if every specialist takes this level of care with each patient. The office is also extremely clean. I wish the cat-only seating area was a little more secluded, but I can see care was taken to reduce their stress within the limits of the lobby space. Of course, it's staggeringly expensive. But I do appreciate that they provided me with an estimate ahead of time both on the phone and in the office rather than shocking me with a high bill after the procedures were complete. I would happily trust the Cancer Center team with Percy's care and comfort in the future and I will never have reservations about coming here again! This is a great place but I called the front desk to get information and talked to one of the least helpful people on earth. They wouldn't let me talk to anyone else either. Then I talked to someone in internal medicine, despite having already having had a consultation with my vet they told me they wouldn't do the test without another consultation with their internist which costs an astronomical $220. They would not quote me how much the test would cost over the phone but there's no way I would go here to have the test done if I'm required to get an exam I don't need. Edit: If you notice in their reply, they don't mention any of the specific concerns I had about refusing to accept a referral from my vet. read more
