Chai Cloud & Strawberry Rooh Matcha Iced
    Rickey S.

TLDR: pricey for what it is, matcha quality isn't the best but the chai latte was the star. Came on a Saturday around 130pm, space was full of people, A/C on was blasting which was nice. My partner and I ordered the Chai Cloud and the Strawberry Rooh Matcha latte. We thought the pricing was very expensive especially since the matcha was $10. We weren't blown away by either drink. The chai cloud did have good flavor but I was confused that the drink didn't have a cream top even though the drink name has "cloud" in it. The Strawberry Rooh Matcha was interesting but not our cup of tea. We disagree with the other yelper stating it has an artificial taste, it's likely the Rooh that's foreign to us. The matcha on the other hand seemed non existent. Parking is scarce on the street and there is a parking structure that shares spots with Wells Fargo.

Mehfil is a south Asian inspired cofee/tea shop that specializes in their karak chai, but also serves coffee, matcha and assorted pastries. It is located on the corner of Lake Ave. and Green St. There are a few parking spots on the curb, and a few on Green St. (one way street). Drinks: I ordered the strawberry rooh matcha and the signature karak chai cloud. My initial impression is that the drinks were too sweet for my liking. Next time I visit, I'm ordering my drinks less sweet. The strawberry rooh matcha wasn't bad. I loved the texture and creaminess of the rooh foam. If you've ever looked up how to make chai, you would know that the chai here is made in house. The spices and flavors are stronger than your average coffee shop, which is great, but expect different if you're used to the diluted uneventful chai lattes elsewhere. Ambiance/Service: Ambiance is welcoming. There are a few tables and couch seats to sit on. Servers and baristas are friendly and I didn't have to wait long for both visits. Overall, I would recommend Mehfil but if you prefer your drinks to be less sweet, make sure you ask for less sweet. I'll try the chai cloud latte my next visit.

#199 in my Coffeeshop Chronicles. Mehfil took over where Nosy Neighbors used to be on Lake Ave in Pasadena. Mehfil is a new specialty coffeeshop that offers Indian influenced drinks. And with it's clean modern interior and comfortable seating, it's a great spot to gather and unwind. So far, I've tried their karak chai, chai cloud latte, Rooh afza latte, and Rooh afza lassi. I grew up on Southasian chai, which is generally richer in spices and flavor, so I've disliked most chais at local coffeeshops as they've always been too bland for me. Because of that, I enjoyed seeing the distinction in the chais made here. I was also excited to see that they serve lassi, a traditional Indian yogurt-based drink. It's pretty creamy but not quite as thick as a smoothie, and it was another childhood favorite growing up. Everything I've tried so far was delicious, but my favorite was definitely the karak chai, followed by the lassi. The lattes were good too though - a perfect fusion of Indian flavors with espresso for that caffeine hit. All in all, if you're looking for something different than your typical coffeeshop, given Mehfil a try. ****************** My Ratings: 1 Star: Terrible; just thinking about it makes me angry. 2 Stars: Wasn't a fan so Not likely to return. 3 Stars: Meh. Average. Might return if others drag me. 4 Stars: Yum! Likely to return. 5 Stars: Amazing! Would plan my day around it.

Had high hopes for this new South Asian inspired cafe that replaced Nosy Neighbors. Unfortunately, we were disappointed with our drinks. I ordered the strawberry rooh matcha for a whopping $10 & it was overly sweet & had a slight chemical or artificial taste. Couldn't taste any matcha at all. We also ordered the chai cloud & added an espresso shot, but it was also super sweet & we think the barista may have forgotten to add the espresso shot. Still giving 3 stars because the baristas were kind & the cafe had a nice vibe. Hopefully Mehfil can continue to improve since they recently opened, but unfortunately won't be returning :/ Street parking & bathroom available for customers.

I tried to come here a couple weeks ago, but their POS system was down. So, I'm happy to come back today and finally try their signature chai. Upon entering, I immediately smelled the spices, so I had high hopes. The space looks smaller than it is from the outside, but there are plenty of seats and tables to hang out and get work done if you wanted to. The parking situation kind of sucks since it's 1 hour street parking along Green, and spots fill up fast. As a chai connoisseur, I can confidently say that this chai is legit; it wasn't overly sweet like you'd expect from a Starbucks, Coffee Bean, or even Peet's chai, so I actually tasted the spices. Their gelato and lassi flavors intrigue me, so I'll definitely be back!

    Rooh Afza Refresher

My friend and I randomly stumbled upon this cafe in Pasadena for a refreshing drink and a place to get some work done and our experience here was good! This cafe specializes in serving South Asian drinks. My friend and I both had Rooh Afza Refresher with water and it was sweet and refreshing! I enjoyed the unique floral flavor of the drink combined with the basil seeds which were a fun texture. I also liked how the drink wasn't too syrupy. You can get it made with milk instead of water. However, for $8 I do think this was a bit too pricey for a flavored water drink. Regardless, it was still good. The interior is nice and clean and well air-conditioned. There's comfortable seating and lots of outlets on the benches. There's also wifi and a private bathroom available. A good find and I would want to come back to try the lassi and chai!

I was excited to try this new café in Pasadena but unfortunately, I don't think this place is gonna last more than a year with the way that things are going. They tried to charge me $11 for an iced chai which is absolutely absurd. I ended up getting the smallest product chai they had and it was still seven dollars. It's like the size of my palm .... It also took them 10 minutes to make my drink and I can understand that if the place was packed, but nobody was in there. They were unprepared and didn't have fresh chai ready to go. If this business wants to survive, I suggest they look Karak house in Laguna. The way that they operate their business is much more efficient and affordable.

Sorry to be the first one to not leave a full 5 stars. Been on a strawberry matcha bender the last week so I decided to give this place a try. Idk if I got a bad batch but my matcha wasn't green lol it was grey... Photos from yelp, IG, etc. were all green. Regardless if it was ceremonial or culinary grade it'll still be green. To top it off it was really really clumpy too. It also tasted artificial. I'm a little disappointed since it's my first time here. For the price of a $10 matcha ($18 for 2 drinks) I was hoping for something a lot better than what I received. I hate throwing away money and this is how I genuinely feel about my purchase. Maybe I'll give them some time to dial it in and I'll make my way back. Don't let my review discourage you from giving this place a try. My partners latte was pretty good.

Saw this place while walking one day and immediately fell in love with it! They have very unique South Asian inspired drinks as well as typical cafe drinks! I LOVED the chai cloud which was their version of a dirty chai latte with espresso! The owner is very welcoming and kind and the seating is very comfy! I'd recommend this place to anyone!

Must try for all chai and matcha lovers! The cloud chai was perfectly sweetened and rich in authentic home brewed flavors.

What a wonderful chai tea experience. The cold chai tea was phenomenal. The service was quick and I definitely got my money's worth. The employees were so friendly and helpful since it was my first time. Comfortable chairs and a great place to work.

The drinks are a Chai latte and Rooh Afza Latte.

The drinks are delicious!!!!! The customer service is excellent! All the workers are welcoming and polite. The ambiance is so cute! Very chill vibes, which is key to a cozy cafe! Definitely will be grabbing a coffee again!

Definitely a new study spot, the ambiance is great and there's plenty of space. Also really like how there's AC, a big plus especially in the summer. The staff is super welcoming and attentive. The drinks are equally as good. I had both their iced matcha and mango lassi. I highly recommend both, especially the mango lassi!! Will definitely come back again!

I had a great experience here at Mehfil. Nice and friendly staff! Yesenia helped me out and she was kind and gave us some recommendations

We arrived just after they opened at 7am and were quite literally the first customers of the day. Thanks for opening your doors to us! This place is such a unique blend: part hip-hop vinyl shop, part artsy cafe, and all-around good vibes. The music selection is top notch, and I loved browsing the cute merch and randomly awesome stationery items. Service was super friendly. My husband had a great conversation with one of the guys behind the counter about the shop's minimalist decor, and we learned Two Kids has been thriving for 10 years. I hadn't been in since right around the pandemic, so it was heartwarming to see they made it through and are still flourishing. The espresso was absolutely luscious, and as a bonus, we got the prettiest latte art with hearts in our drinks, big love for that! Really wish I had more time to hang out on the comfy couches in the middle of the shop and soak in some vinyl tunes. Can't wait to come back and spend a morning here the right way, highly recommended!

The one issue I have with them is they show a loyalty program in terms of entering your phone number -- if you order online as well as the register. But I've never gotten any points. I once asked the owner about it and he claimed that they do in fact give out items, and said he would check on it that night when I told him the situation. Found seating outside but moved some plates ourselves from one table to another to find shade for us the kiddo. Grabbed a high chair and got seating set up. A few folks were setting up to play music out on the patio. We ordered inside as expected, thankfully the line wasn't too bad at that time so it went smoothly, though the prices are still higher than the average mom/pop sandwich place (but we anticipated this). We waited a bit for food while the patio band played. Ambience was pretty nice. Our friend's sandwich came out first and about 5 minutes later our food came. However, the Arnold Palmer we ordered didn't arrive with the food so we asked if they'd come back to bring it, and we were told they'd be right back. We waited probably another 5 minutes but drink still didn't come so I went inside to ask about it and saw the drink sitting on the back counter. So I asked staff if I could pick up the drink and they handed it over. Our friend's sandwich (the Jester) looked pretty filling while wife and I ordered/shared the Crown Jewel with cheese and mayo on the side. The Crown Jewel was pretty meh overall. Wasn't as stacked as the Jester and the bread fell apart as I ate it, despite the mayo on the side. At the end of eating someone came by to grab our order numbers and ask how things went. I commented on the wait for the drink and was told they couldn't find us, which sounded strange because they found us when bringing the sandwich and we still had our order number. But she said we could get a free refill. Since I wanted to take advantage of the refill I went inside to inquire but the order counter had gotten extremely busy. So I asked one of the bus/wait staff outside if they could grab my refill. He directed me inside and he commented how busy they were but I said I didn't want to wait in the huge line simply for a refill, so he offered to meet me inside to get the refill. Eventually I did receive the refill and we left. Overall, for the price of the food I felt the service was very average bordering on subpar, and the food was meh for the price. I don't blame the staff as they all seemed to be working very hard, but perhaps they were understaffed which would be more of a management issue. We basically bussed a couple tables on our own and waited what eventually amounted to 20-25 minutes for an ice tea/lemonade. I pre-tipped when I bought the food, which I kind of regretted but also felt bad that the employees were understaffed so I likely would have left a tip anyways. I don't plan to go back anytime soon. Wish the food and service were better
