The food is delicious and the service is great. The buffet is well priced and definitely worth the money. Definitely recommend it.

Horrible wait. Didn't get menus until 10 mins from arrival, didn't order until another 20 mins. Food was staggered coming out and it was very frustrating because the plates I tasted weren't half bad. Just moved from alameda and can only say that the food was very mediocre compared to other choices closer to oak/sf but it'll pass by default given that this area is super starved for Indian food. Next time I would order for take out since all of the phone orders were filled before actual patrons were paid attention. I was here for business dinner-- never again. Esp since I recommended this and everyone was hangry. It was embarrassing. Anyway, my fault for that one. Dim signage, dicey location, zero ambiance. Went here 4 weeks ago to pickup a lamb curry TOGO around 7pm. I guess they were having a big party or something and these 5 drunk guys were standing at the entrance like they owned the place. As I walked past these guys one of them said hello and I said hey how's it going and they all started laughing. Picked up the lamb curry and garlic naan for the 14.75 it cost which was the smallest container I've ever seen in my life for take out food (a salsa container is bigger than this) and 2 lousy pieces of bread for 2.50. When I brought home the curry it was the most oily tasteless curry I have ever tasted in my life. I am DEAD certain that the restaurant staff gave me LEFTOVERS from the banquet party cause it did not seem fresh or tasty at all. So much oil and grease and I haven't encountered this with Indian food in the 8 years I've tried it. All I wanted was spicy lamb curry and they gave me lamb with oil & grease. A few weeks prior to the visit I mentioned I ordered a butter chicken TOGO and when I brought that home the chicken was chewy like squid as if they didn't COOK the CHICKEN all the way through. It was disgusting and disappointing to me that such a great dish was not up to its full potential. The sauce in the butter chicken was watery tasting and barely had a kick of spice flavor to it. Mehran has been a "coupon place" for my family and friends for a while (we only go when we have a coupon). Most reviews for the restaurant on Yelp mention the lunch buffet, and that is certainly the way to go: just a plate of chicken tikka marsala, rice, and naan is a delectable lunch. Add a couple pieces of tandoori chicken and some chick peas and you're on to something special. If you arrive later, and miss the buffet, the sandwiches and paratha meals are quite tasty. They used to serve an extraordinary combination meat plate, but I haven't seen a menu lately as I tend to hit Mehran for the lunch buffet. I've attended two cotillions at this facility, and both were top shelf: great families, great service. Ample parking on the quiet end of Pittsburg's main drag (Railroad Avenue) and ALWAYS wonderful staff. read more

I'm reluctant to write a bad review for this place, as this was our first bad experience. My parents and I have been here quite a few times in the past, and the food has always been decent. We came around 3pm yesterday, 3/19 for the buffet. Both my parents mention that the food is spicier than usual ( mind you, they're used to eating spicy food). We also noticed they had replaced the usual red colored tandori chicken with a different type of chicken that was super spicy which left all of our lips burning. Fast forward to 9pm, we all had severe stomach pains and literally spent close to an hour on the toilet- luckily we had 3 bathrooms in the house. super annoyed with this place.. they are NEVER consistent. The first time was ok, second time, I was given pieces of cut up chicken as if it was left over from someone's plate. When I called to complain the guy insisted that they would never do that. Ok, maybe it's me then... so I give them another try, and again they were ok. Ok, I have been to so many Indian Restaurants I can't count. England, Hawaii, Eureka, Monterey, Arizona. I have been to Swagat in Concord and the one out at Slatten Ranch(sorry, the food was completely forgettable, hence I forgot the name.) I also cook it at home. I go to the Indian Bazaar to get my stuff. I'm just trying to qualify that I know Indian Food to some extent. This IS the best Indian Food I've ever had. I went to Mehran last week after being told about it by my friend. I had been going to India 4 U way out in Antioch/Brentwood/Oakley for my local Indian food. Mehran is not only closer, but much better. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was happy and everything seemed very clean. (I'm a neat freak.) The naan wasn't fresh which bummed me out, but it was still really good. I can only imagine how good it must be fresh. The chicken tikka masala is wonderful and probably the best I've ever had. The plain basmati rice was perfect. Why does mine never turn out that way? Must be because I'm a silly little white girl. But yeah, my favorite item ordered was the plain rice. I'm a weirdo. The only negative for me was the woman who took my order. She was very professional and nice to me, but she was on the phone when I arrived and I didn't like what happened afterwards. Even though she was nice with the person on the phone, she started talking smack about them once she hung up. I thought that was very unprofessional and made me wonder what she would say about me when I left. It's a good thing that I don't care what others think about me, but it may be a turn-off to others. I watched this woman while I waited for my food and she was very nice and sweet to everyone, but I don't think she's a happy person. Maybe they don't allow her to eat the awesome chicken tikka masala. That would make me bitter too. For the Pitt old-timers, this restaurant is in the old Sol's shopping center. It may even be Sol's old store. I can't remember quite that far back. I will definitely be going back for more. I feel fortunate (unfortunate for my waistline) that this place is just a few miles from my house. I could go every day and just eat the plain rice. Oooo......you know what I want? I've had a lot of Indian food, and this is of the best. I go for lunch frequently. Staff is friendly and the owners are really nice. Might call me a regular. They consistently server up hot and tasty Indian food and it's not 'Americanized' which is the downfall to any cultural experience. It's hotter on the weekends and 'toned down' during the week for people who are not comfortable with 'hot'. Neither weekday or weekend strikes me as hot. Definitely surprising. I came to the Mehran yesterday afternoon for their lunch buffet since I hadn't eaten breakfast and my sister offered to buy (Who could say no to free food?). She asked if I wanted Indian food and so I assumed we were going to go to one of our usual places in Concord but we came here. I had always been reluctant about eating here because when I was at work, I heard quite a lot of mediocre reviews from Indian customers when I would talk to them about food. But when I walked in, it took me by surprise. The ambiance was very warm and welcoming (IMO). The employee who was serving us was very attentive; He made sure our drinks were topped off, taking our plates, and making sure we had plenty of naan (which was delicious btw.) Now for the food, it was quite good! The buffet tables were fancy looking lol But besides that, they had a lot of common dishes: chicken tikka masala, tandoori chicken, vegetable curries, mixed vegetable pakoras, etc. They also serve both regular basmati rice as well as chicken biryani for their buffet which was nice. Their chicken tikka masala wasn't that great though. They used chicken breast rather than thigh so the meat wasn't very tender and I felt the sauce was lacking compared to other kinds I've tried. But my favourite thing definitely had to be their beef korma and chicken korma (I believe that's what it was called.) It was unbelievably good but too many bones lol For dessert, they had kheer and I think some mango yoghurt. I didn't try any but my sister didn't like how the kheer was cold rather than hot but that wasn't that big of a deal. I wish they had some gulab jamun on the buffet line though, I would've loved to had tried it. Overall, I enjoyed the Mehran. It was great for the price (that being $8.99 at the time of this review.) And if I don't feel like going to Concord, Pleasant Hill or Walnut Creek for some Indian food, this place will suffice and I recommend trying it =) P.S. The food for some might be too spicy, including the chicken tikka masala that usually isn't supposed to be. I eat hot sauce, hot chili oil or hot chili paste with my food everyday. So what might not be hot for me, might be hot to others if you tend to be more sensitive to spicy food. read more

The food was piping hot and smelled great. I was hooked when I saw the nan bread. I got the mixed basket and it was very satisfying. The mango drink was thick which probably means it was made with one whole mango. The dishes were filling and had some to take home as well. Parking was a breeze. We had a guy with tandoor doing fresh nans and another guy with a fryer making pakoras and a grill making lamb chops kababs etc. They even provided a bartender to man our drink table. So we were driving around, just generally trying to get away from our normal routine of being in the Mission, surrounded by hipster assholes, and we decided to see what life was like in Pittsburg - it being the end of a BART line and all. Since this isn't a review of the city of Pittsburg, I'll just say that eventually, we got hungry. Didn't hold out too much hope for this completely empty Indian restaurant sitting at the end of a sad-looking strip mall. And felt preparing for the worst was even further justified when the nice white lady seated us and gave us our menus. We ordered chicken tikka masala. It's safe. She asked how spicy so we said we liked spicy. She countered with "well, I'll tell them 'medium' so that it's not too spicy." We assured her we really like spicy. She stuck with the "medium" call and said "that way, if it's not spicy enough this time, you'll know to get it spicy the next time." Like there's gonna be a next time! This is the thing about preparing for the worst: on the one hand, it keeps you from being crushed by disappointments and on the other hand, it makes non-disasters into moments worthy of celebration. Not the best Indian food I've ever had. But recently, and all things considered and you know what? Actually pretty good! And spicy! Yay! read more

The food is pretty good here and I really like that they have different type of naan bread that you can try. My husband and I had the chicken tiki marsala everything was good it was a little spicy although we order the mild. I wish it was a little less spicy than that. We also ordered the fish pakora and that was pretty good too. I have ordered delivery twice from this restaurant and both times they delivered TWO HOURS after I ordered the food. The food's not bad, a bit expensive for the quantity, but for a $5 delivery fee and being located only 10 minutes (tops) from where we live, I'd expect them to deliver within an hour. read more

I went here for the first time on my lunch break and it was a good experience. I had the lunch buffet which offered a variety of food including different spiced rices and vegetable pakora fritters. They even had chicken tikki, curry and tandoori which surprised me because typically Indian buffets will only offer one choice of meat. The food was tasty and hot. My second Indian buffet within the past four days. I had a large craving for Indian food after eating at a Favorite Indian Restaurant on Sunday. So I decided to come here, before going to the Jelly Belly Factory, after looking up Indian on Yelp. We walk in and the hostess directs us straight to the food counter, now that is getting straight to the point, I liked that. There was no talk about price or fluff, just "what would you like to drink, sit anywhere, and dig in." So there were only about 8 entree choices. Only four of them were vegetarian, the spinach dish, the lentil, and the potato cauliflower. This was not great because Jiina is vegetarian. There were four meat dishes including, chicken tikka masaala, chicken tandoori, and a goat curry. I couldn't muster the courage to try the goat, so i skipped that one. The tikka had too much sauce and the few chicken pieces that I did get were slightly dry. The Tandoori was empty when I got there and took 30 minutes to refill. The vegetarian dishes were my favorite, the cauliflower potato dish was cooked perfectly, the okra dish had the trademark Indian spices, and the spinach was lovely as usual. I ate all the dishes with the vegetable biryani and some plain naan. The naan was nice and fluffy, but plain, I hoped that they would have garlic naan, but they did not. The dessert was the rice yogurt and some pancake balls soaked in syrup. Now those are not the authentic names of the dishes but I forget what they are called in the native tongue so I am defining in layman's terms. The rice pudding had that sharp cardimon and clove taste, quite polarizing but unique enough to get a second serving. The pancake balls had way too much syrup, but I enjoyed them because I like sweets. Overall, we ate to suffocation, like people tend to do at buffets to get our money's worth, but the variety of dishes was just lacking. I give three stars because of the lack of choices and the lack of a mango dessert which should be an Indian dessert staple. Also side note, their straws are very effective if you want to spit water across the table, if you're into that kind of stuff (inside joke, it's ok if you don't understand). read more

I ordered take out from this place and really enjoyed it. I love indian food and this place had a lot of the options I typically enjoy but also some new items I haven't tried yet. We ordered the samosas which were good but nothing special. The naan was amazing and HUGE! A couple sauces came with our order that were very tasty as well. My favorite dish in the paneer masala and it was beyond delicious here. I would definitely order that again. We also ordered the chicken korma and the prawn curry. The food was nice. This restaurant is categorized on Yelp as Indian and Pakistani, but it really is not very Pakistani, not rustic. It's a bit gimmicky (I don't need my food served in a tower over a burning candle). The total bill for our group was around $125. At other comparable restaurants, we usually wind up in the neighborhood of $75. The prices just aren't justifiable. Again, the food was nice, but we won't return, because we can go elsewhere and spend much less. read more

Coming from Dublin/Pleasanton, it is really hard to compete with authentic Indian food. Having been spoiled by the availability and the choices of Indian food establishments in that area, it is very disappointing knowing the selection in Indian cuisine is scarce around here. After asking around and doing a bit of research, Mehran was the choice. My family and I went on a weekend and it was sometime after the lunch buffet had ended. We tried to order tandoori chicken (not available), samosas (not available) *sigh* so we successfully placed an order for Butter Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala, Skewered Chicken (appetizer), Sweet & Spicy Paneer. Turns out the Skewered chicken was also unavailable and instead got some heavily breaded fried vegetables. The Sweet & Spicy Paneer seemed like a half-baked idea of tossing some sweet chili sauce and uncooked bell peppers and onions with some Paneer - Result: Mediocre at best. The only decent dishes were Butter Chicken and the Chicken Tikka Masala, both of which were super "conservative" with their portion and wasn't really noteworthy in my opinion. The establishment itself is pretty nice, their banquet hall and bathrooms are impressive. Based on the other reviews, seems like the best time to go is during the buffet. If we ever come back, it'll probably be during the buffet, hopefully it'll have more of the traditional items available at a reasonable price. read more

Food is great but customer service is horrible. My family has been coming here for years. Used to be good until they implemented the phone/online order system. Now it seems that's more important then serving there customers in the Resturant. On my birthday my wife had to help them serve the food to our guest because they were understaffed. Tonight I just went with a friend and it took them 40 min to serve us Nann. The guest behind us came in 20 min after and got their Nann and dinner before us. I asked why and the waiter replied they ordered online and came in to eat. Well service didn't get any better. We had to constantly flag him down and ask for stuff. He forgot to bring my friend a drink till end of the meal. Horrible service. Shame on you for ruining such a nice place. read more

I was invited to lunch today by a few coworkers to try an Indian buffet cuisine. Its a small restaurant but the food was absolutely fabulous. I just love eating Indian/Pakistani food here at Mehran... I love the Lunch Buffet and all the satisfying dishes. There is a mixture of vegetarian and meat dishes.
