Prices are very fair but it's a bit confusing the first time you go and I think that probably confuses some people as they walk by. It would be nice if they made it easier to grab a few items to go and get rung up. Like most Great Wall places, they like cash and the people ahead of us had a heck of a time dealing with their debit card. Hint: grab a tray, paper sheet and tongs and load up. He'll put them into individual bags when he rings you up. On the other side, there are like rice balls and savory food? They only have two small tables for eating and it's close to the kids area so don't expect any ambiance if you are going to eat there... The pastries we selected were okay, nothing that special IMHO. It was very clean and the man was very attentive. Fantastic pastry delights!! I thought the price was also really great, spent 25$ and got so so much for my money. Loved the baked buns with pork and curry beef. Steamed buns were equally as good, filled with sweet BBQ pork, cabbage, sausage, and hard boiled eggs! They were so delicious, I couldn't eat enough. Scrumptious steamed Sui Mai. To top it off the eggs tarts were fabulous. Just the right amount of eggy-ness! Wish this place was bigger as it is definitely a tight squeeze and like others have mentioned it's a bit confusing. My sister and I stopped in here before lunch to check it out. Probably not a good idea because we ended up buying a couple things to snack on almost ended up not eating lunch haha. The regular egg tarts were sold out so we opted for the Portuguese egg tarts and also a curry beef bun. Let me start by saying, I'm usually not a big fan of regular egg tarts just because of the taste. I've never had egg tart that made me want to keep eating more until I discover the Portuguese ones. The egg tart was slightly sweeter and the crust that it was on so was airy, fluffy and flaky. It fell apart in my hand but it was so delicious! My sister was even raving about the egg tart and how she preferred it more than the one she had the day before. We also split a curry beef bun and I definitely prefer this one over the ones I've had in the past. It was a very nice curry flavor and wasn't too overpowering. I really wanted to come back here and pick up a box of goodies to take home but it was later in the day and I know it wouldn't be the same by the time I got home since I still have errands to run around the area. Everything is very reasonably priced. We tried their Japanese cheesecake cup cake which was lighter and more airy than the typical Japanese cheesecake that I am accustomed to, or it isn't like a typical creamy and dense New York style cheesecake with a graham cracker crust we are used to. Another item we tried was a bun topped with a baked corn, ham and mayonnaise sauce that is reminiscence to what I was raised on and stimulated the long forgotten taste buds. Their hot dog bun also brought back my childhood memories with a unique flavor of multi-continental cultures merged harmoniously, though, the ratio of the bread to the hotdog could be adjusted by reducing the size of the bun if you are lazy like me to cut some of the bun off of it. My favorite of all was their Portuguese egg custard pastry cup. Its warm eggy custard nestled in a flaky pastry cup was certainly better than the most dim sum places in this area. I've tried their bbq pork buns - the bread is soft & the filling is sweet, savory & not pink like the bakery inside the market. I've also tried their taro bun. It was delicious; the filling wasn't too sweet, which is the problem with most of the taro bun's I have tried in the past. Their portuguese egg tarts are great, as well. We got a few different types of breads, egg tarts, etc. The breads are fluffy and the filings are tasty. The egg tarts are good. The selection was limited. Hopefully in time they will offer more choices. Service was beyond slow. Five minutes to pack a few things for a single customer, with another four or more in line, is not acceptable. If they want to do more business they'll need to learn how to keep customers moving. It's about time this mall gets a real Chinese bakery. Glad to see them here. Hope they will improve. read more

But my favorite item is their steam bun/hum bao/banh bao! Ive had many in my life but their buns are the best I have ever eaten. Fluffy and slightly sweet bread and the most incredible filling. It's moist, savory, and balances out the bread. Good ratio between filling and outside too. Everything in the bakery is around a $1 or more which is cheap! And I love how you have a tray and use tongs to grab the pastries you like, keeps the experience fun. read more

I like that they make their bakery items fresh unlike some of the pastries over at the 99 Ranch store. It is a small shop but they have a nice selection to choose from. Char Sui bun is good but I wish they add little more char sui. The last one I ate had too many onions in it. Not sure if they are playing around with it but should just stick to the basics. The egg tarts are just fine. I like the portuguese ones better too. The red bean and coconut buns were also good but the balance of bread and filling is not even enough. Little more filling would be better. The chocolate rolls were just sweet enough, not too much. The people who worked there were also very pleasant and helpful. I didn't experience any slow service but then when I go there after work, there were not a lot of people, maybe 1-2 around the shop? This place is a nice little bakery found inside the larger "mall". They have beautiful desserts and awesome meat filled rolls. I have gone to this place a few times just to pick up some curry beef rolls (soooo good) and the price is really reasonable. This is really just a review for the egg tarts. They're the bees knees! And they also have Portuguese egg tarts which aren't too bad either. I've had the other cold case desserts also (mousse cake, tiramisu, fruitcake) but I would say the egg tarts are really the standouts here. Fruitcake isn't bad either! And they can usually make special order cakes on late notice, which is great. Also after 8pm they have like a happy hour? I think it's 30% off of what's left of the fresh baked goods. So I had a craving for a bbq ham bao. I went to the grocery store next to the bakery and got one of those in a butter roll. Took a bite of the ham bao. It was so bad. There was barely any meat, and it was dry. But then I noticed this Bakery. I happily walked in found some new buns and another butter roll. I have quite a nice selection of pastries and Cake's. I was so impressed with their ham bao. It was full of flavor and had a good amount of meat. I haven't eaten my butter roll yet but I'm sure its good as well. I'm always in search for Asian bakeries to try; there is nothing quite like the nostalgic buns and cakes contained within. Unfortunately I have yet to find one in Renton, WA to try. Upon performing a Yelp search I found this little bakery tucked in a shopping center that houses other Asian eateries and a 99 Ranch Super Market down in Kent, WA. Intrigued I undertook the long and arduous journey down to Kent, braving the traffic and other street hazards that North-westerners are familiar with. Mei Wa is a small, quaint, little bakery with modest selection. Considering the size of the place I was satisfied with the variety. They had the usual hot dog bun, custard fill bun, bbq pork bun, dried pork floss buns and a few cakes to name a few. What caught my attention were the egg tarts...in particular the PORTUGUESE egg tarts! I have yet to find a place here in Washington that served these. I had to buy one, or two, fine three and I was not disappointed. The crust was light and fluffy and the actual egg custard was light, sweet and flavorful, but not over-powering. These definitely are one of their top sellers seeing how the case was empty when I first got there. Thankfully they are always restocking and I was able to help myself to some freshly made ones. One other plus that I have to mention in regards to this bakery are the prices. The things I bought ranged from $1 to $1.50; quite reasonable in my opinion. I know of other places that give you deals like $5 for 3 goods which comes out to be around $1.66 per so I have to say Mei Wa's prices are pretty attractive. Overall a great find and I definitely will be trying this place again! Oh as for hours, I have yet to find any listing but I called today to make sure they were open and they said their hours are 9a-9p/7 days a week. I'd call to make sure though. read more
