My husband and I came here on an evening not as cold as tonight's forecast but chilly nonetheless, and Meijin really hit the spot. To start off, we ordered the fried chicken. It was wonderfully crunchy on the outside, succulent on the inside. I was pleased to see that they used thigh meat - the best cut. The chicken came with a side of spicy mayo and this spice blend that added a nice umami mushroom flavor to each bite. For my main dish, I ordered the Okinawa ramen, a type of creamy broth topped with slivers of pork. It was wonderful. Rich. Cozy. Everything I craved on a cold night. Pretty good ramen! I got the spicy miso ramen. The broth was heavenly, I just didn't love the noodles that much. They were nothing special and reminded me of instant noodles. But the flavors added by all the toppings were great. The egg was easily my favorite. The matcha cheesecake was pretty good for only $7 or so. They had a decent size dessert menu. Absolutely love this place. We come quite often! My biggest gripe is 1. their health department rating, which has been a B for a while and 2. the fact that they stopped offering their Kimchi ramen in the winter, which was by far my favorite! Food wise, I have never had a bad experience here. It's not good for groups, but better for smaller quantities of people. I don't live far so might be different for others, but we often do takeout and it does travel well. They separate the broth from the rest of the ramen so it's easy to assemble and doesn't get soggy before you eat it! I think food here is decent and will satisfy the itch for ramen. But won't scratch it entirely if you're looking for a rich broth and more "traditional" ramen (or my concept of traditional). I ordered the, I think, chicken topped ramen. It was decent but lacked a bit of flavor. The chicken was decent but it was just chicken, nothing crazy done to it. My wife's vegetarian ramen, on the other hand, was really good! It was super flavorful, looked very appetizing and is something I would get again. I visited here because there were so many amazing Summer specials that I had to stop by and try. The Hokkaido Seared Scallops were cooked perfectly and the sushi was so fresh! I loved the mentaiko noods and the Okinawa broth in the Okinawa Ramen. The soft shell crab in the bun was fried lightly and was a nice big piece. Both the Yuzu Lemonade and Lychee Mojito mocktail were really refreshing and not too sweet. They also make a solid rice bowl here. There are a mixture of tables for 2 and 6 but didn't see anything for larger parties We were lured here by the fried chicken and it did not disappoint. It was very juicy. Meijin is a popular spot on the Upper East Side for ramen, cocktails, and sushi. As a vegetarian, there were very few options. I dont mind limited choices, as long as they're good. I ordered the only entree available to me: the Veggie Veggie Ramen. I asked to substitute an egg for the onions and scallions (same price as add-ons) but was informed that Meijin doesn't do substitutions - they only leave items out, and you can pay a la carte for additions. Pretty stingy for a place that charges $20+ per bowl of ramen, IMO. I paid the extra $4 to add the egg and am glad I did, because most of the other components were disappointing. The tofu was raw and unseasoned, the cherry tomatoes were strange in broth, and the corn tasted canned. The enoki mushrooms and inari were good. The broth was mild and a bit garlicky, with no real depth to it. There were no condiments on the table to improve it. The cocktail menu is excellent, though execution was inconsistent. Our two Collins San had very different proportions of ingredients, to the point that they were different colors altogether. The chairs are hard and many of the stools are backless. There are a few coathooks on the wall, but not nearly enough for all the coats on a cold evening. read more

We got a side of their sliced pork but it was a bit cold and needed to be submerged in the broth. It was a nice cut but not soft and fall part. Washu Ramen (3/5): Don't be fooled to think the premium cost is wagyu meat! It came out as thinly sliced pieces but were tough to chew after being submerged in the water unlike beef slices used in pho. The broth is beef taste forward which I wasn't the biggest fan of. The ramen came out cold and the chicken was burnt. service is what brought the stars down. It took them 15 minutes after I had finished my meal to even walk over to me. Then another 5 to bring the check. I'd understand if it was busy but it wasn't, my service was chatting and laughing right behind me. I think this place is poorly managed and I'm not sure how it's competing with all the much better restaurants on UES. They also charge per refill of the soft drinks but don't tell you that. Was looking for a ramen place on UES and I had never heard of Mei Jin before, but decided to take my chances. The ramen and the experience turned out to be very good and I was very happy that I came. Our party of 3 was seated immediately, but if you came even 20 minutes later at around 7:30, there would be a pretty hefty line. I ordered the Meijin Miso Ramen and I thought it was pretty good. I was hoping the broth would be more interesting than just miso flavor as I had never had beef broth ramen before but it wasn't. Regardless, the broth was delicious and went very well with the corn and the noodles. I wasn't a big fan of the beef as it was a little hard to chew on but the rest of the dish was wonderful. I got to try my friend's Washu Beef Ramen and I wish I ordered that one instead as the black chili oil sitting on top of the broth really elevated the dish. Not a bad place to get ramen at all! For the area this ramen spot is really not too bad! It's definitely not authentic, but as it describes itself it is trendy, hip and convenient. For the Upper East Side, its not a bad place when you need something for your ramen fix. I like the innovative and unique twists of ramen that they have. They have two sides of the restaurant which is a normal seating area with wonderful decor and the other side is a bar side in a separate room that has a really cool feel to it. The sushi was $19 which is crazy expensive and honestly just didn't have much flavor and left us wanting something more. Service was quick and this place does seem to be popular, especially at night on the weekend. There's always people sitting outside. They have a bar right next door so that's probably why.
