Within minutes of placing the order, they called to let me know they had run out of pepperoni - at 5 PM on a major game night, which was surprising. I switched to buffalo chicken and moved on. When the delivery arrived, the garlic knots were missing - a disappointing surprise, though to their credit, a refund was issued without a fuss. It's thin crust pizza, which is worth knowing going in. The cheese pie was a bit lacking in flavor, but the buffalo chicken pie was genuinely a hit and ended up being the star of the night. Mixed experience overall - the buffalo chicken pie gives me reason to try again, but hopefully with fewer hiccups next time. read more

Why are your doors locked at 8pm on a Sunday? I arrived here just now and watched someone inside come up and lock the door as I was approaching... I was shocked because online the hours say 10pm in multiple spots (not just on Yelp). I pulled on the door handle and yup - it was definitely locked. The employees just looked at me and shook their heads "no". Good thing I didn't come from far, otherwise I would've been extremely upset to find this place closed 2 hours earlier than what they're supposed to be. Delightful!!! Got a plain slice and garlic knots recently. Agree with previous reviewer (this is a sleeper spot) My slice had a nice sauce to cheese ratio, not salty, not sweet, just right. The best part......crisp bottom crust, perfect chewy and crisp edge crust. Garlic knots were a liitle more crisp than I'm used to but they were very tasty. Friendly staff. Bright and sunny spot. Mela pizza is a charming corner stop, manned by one of the friendliest staff I've had the pleasure of interacting with in recent memory. I have stopped in a few times, well almost everytime, I walk home from the 30th Street stop. I have a feeling they have been getting more foot traffic now that the Astoria Blvd stop is closed and people like me want a little nourishment before their trek home. Awesome corner pizza spot, probably one of the best places to grab a slice in Astoria. Wide array of flavors, so far the Margherita and eggplant parm are my favorite. I moved to NYC 5 years ago and have lived in Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, Bushwick and now Astoria and this is by far my favorite delivery slice. They have an awesome deal: 2 slices and a drink for $5.
