I did review on these guys. And they literally told me not to come back ever again!! Never to come back again and not that the review was degrading. As they say - find the hole in walls and you'll find good food! Atmosphere is very chill and they keep it very clean . First time here- greeted immediately and grab a seat.... Saw the tea was included on lunch specials so got that and really good. Lunch specials have about 7-8 choices , I went with the Chile Relleno and glad I did . Huge plate with rice and refried beans ( needed salt ).. was very very tasty. Look forward to trying the other lunch options. read more

Everything. This is the real deal for great, traditional Mexican food. All of the crew that I've encountered have provided either expected service (10%) or exceptional Guest oriented attention (90%). If you're looking for a legitimate hideaway location for great food and hospitality, this is the place. The only thing that they could update are the floors, but I assure you that the quality of food and service more than compensates. read more

I come here when I'm on this side of town. In my opinion, they have the best carne gusada in town. They give up you a red and green salsa when you sit down. Both of them are very flavorful. The tortillas are a little thick and fluffy, and they taste like butter. I'm a picky person when it comes to food, but their enchiladas with the chili con carne are some of the best I've had. I'm not a fan of refried beans, but they had great seasoning, and you can taste the bacon in them. The service has always been good, too. The only reason I gave them 4 instead of 5 stars is because they clean the tables with Fabuloso, and I HATE that smell. read more

I love the people here, the atomsphere is amazing and comfortable, it's usually seat yourself and the staff is on it, you're not waiting long to be served My best friend comes here more than I do, so they know to get her more lemons with her tea, but they are so sweet to me and the food is delish here. I love that they have a selection and no matter what I've ordered it was delicious. read more

Back today for the 3rd time since discovering this place. Everything we've ordered is quite tasty and fresh. Huge menu and huge proportions. Service is prompt even when busy. Like the decor too. Always leave satisfied and with a doggie bag. Definitely one of our go-to spots. read more

I've made orders to go from this restaurant 3 times, but my 4th time ordering was my worst experience yet!! An employee of the store by the name of Linda was very rude to me after giving me the wrong order, my husband went in to get the order while I waited in the car, he brought the order out and i could tell it was the wrong order without even opening the bag because I only ordered two tacos and there were well over 6 in the bag. I then checked the receipt and seen that they had charged me $26.25 ; again without Even opening the bag i immediately sent my husb back in to get the right order...Even though I never left the premises, she refused to give me the right order, she called me ugly names, told me to just leave and eat the tacos and even told me she didn't want to see me again! I arranged a meeting with the manager (Monica) but when I got there for the meeting, Linda stated that the manager had already come and gone, linda told me that it didn't Matyet anyways because she had already explained "her side of the story", and that I wouldn't be compensated for THEIR MISTAKES... Im super frustrated and i deserve to be heard. I'm not the ghetto black girl that they always Portray us to be. So I'm trying to handle this professionally instead of going in hot, and "ghetto" blazing. read more

San Antonio is the best place to find breakfast tacos. I stumbled upon this hole-in-the wall restaurant and was delighted at their taco special. You can order 3 tacos (same kind) during the weekdays breakfasts for $3! The tacos were so good and the tortilla was fresh. I especially liked the chorizo/egg and ham/egg. Salsas were flavorful. Can't find tacos like this in Houston...can't wait to go back! read more

This is one of the best restaurants in San Antonio, and I've tried many since I've lived here all my life. Born in Laredo TX. I grew up on Mexican food. Their tortillas are home made, both flour and corn. The food is simple with a home made flair. Barbacoa is all meat, not greasy and all their food is seasoned perfectly. Great Great value for your money. The waitresses are friendly respectful and down to earth and my wife and I always chat a little with them. This is the place to be for Tex-Mex food on the northeast side. The food excellent, the prices very reasonable, staff is friendly and service is fast. They have deals like 3 breakfast tacos for $2.89 and lunch specials for $6 or $7 and they include a large tea. Every time I've visited my order has been correct, the food excellent and service fast and friendly. The restaurant sits back off of Walzem a little bit, next door to Subway. read more

Today my son ordered 4 bacon only tacos to go, and when they gave him the order they were bacon and egg. So i went back and told the lady and was very rude. Saying that my son said bacon and egg and wouldnt even try to correct order, even if i had to pay more. So just made one taco with all four. Lol read more

La Cocina de Mi Tierra is now Mi Cocina Linda... Located in the Windcrest area off Walzem Rd in the Windsor Park Place shopping strip center across from Roosevelt HS. For the longest time I kept seeing La Cocina de Mi Tierra coming up in the local area with high stars but I never got a chance to go over there. Then the other day hubs had Fiesta Fri off so we went to run errands in the area and decided to have lunch. I couldn't find LCDMT but Mi Cocina Linda came up with high stars... so ok, we'll go ahead and stop. Now that I'm looking at pics, this is the same place... maybe just a name/owner/management change. I think the rest is the same, menu looks the same. I will ask next time. Lunch Specials start at $5.99 including tea, which is a great price! Fri lunch has two mole specials so I figured the mole must be good so I must try it. Hubs didn't think I would like it. Well, this mole I did like and my mole enchiladas were really good. He got the combo plate. We shared enchiladas. Mine were better than his cheese. The next week, Hubs took a day off since we made plans to do some stuff and decided to go back for lunch. I got the chicken verdes enchilada... and he got Calabacita con Pollo We were both happy with our choices. A coupe of weeks later, I got back to try their Chili Relleno special. We love love love Chilli Rellenos! ... these were more of a 3 star, needed more flavors and salt. Yes, I had to add salt and I hate to salt to anything. Rice and beans are good. I like the peas in the rice. Tortillas are homemade... nothing better than a homemade corn tortillas... and if it made right, you won't miss a flour tort. These are so soft and yummy! We've been looking for a really good Tex-Mex for a few years now since our 'go to' place went down hill, wasn't consistent, and now recently closed for good. So I keep wondering why we haven't been here before now but then again, we are so tired of trying a different place and it is not any good... and SA is FILLED with not so good Mexican / Tex-Mex joints... and some of it is way over priced. Breakfast Taco Special Mon-Fri is ridiculous, but in a good way. The only downside is... La Cocina LInda is not open in the eves... that is when hubby and I like to go out to eat together like once a week and usually I'm craving Tex-Mex. So we're still left w/no place to go. Ya'll know when you just get that hankering for a delicious Mexican breakfast? That was me on this day and my hubby swears by this place so I decided to trust him! I was so impressed with the size of the menu. That is one of the biggest menu's I have ever seen at a Mexican restaurant. There's something for everyone on that menu! I judge a Mexican restaurant based on their tortillas, beans, huevos rancheros, chorizo and chips and salsa. Those are all very standard so if you can do them well, you've earned my business. All of that was good except the beans tasted a little too heavy of lard. I was pleasantly surprised by the chorizo because it's not that vinegar based recipe that some restaurants use. I can only speak to the breakfast tacos, and they are OUTSTANDING. There are many different options, and each that we tried had us raving. Light, fluffy flavorful flour tortillas are folder around perfect portions of flavorful fillings. (That's a lot of Fs, but this place is definitely an A+! I went during lunch and it was so good!!! The received beans and rice were very good! The barbacoa was very good, and not fatty at all! Which is the cut that I prefer! The portion sizes were nice for lunch, and the tortillas were very good! The salsa was just okay, but it went very well with the chips! And the service was excellent!!! However, I do not bring expectations of Cali with me bc that takes away from travel. *Food is extremely salty *The salsa is made with caned whole peeled tomatoes soaked in sodium *shrimp is cooked very hard and tough *I ordered a shrimp burrito and there was nothing fresh on the plate -no sour cream -no lettuce nor tomatoes -salsa was hot in temperature *The cheese was melted and tasted like sliced cheddar but not the good kind I usually do not express much about restaurants I just don't go back. This place is always so friendly. The serves are very kind. I love it because their tortillas are homemade (corn and flour) the flour tortillas are so great I like to eat them with nothing. One day I was very sick and I was really craving something "homey" so I had the calabacitas and I felt so much better after that. The severs always fill up your cups to-go before you leave. I used to enjoy coming to this place so today we decided to stop by (we now live out of town) and it was busy which it was expected the day after Christmas so we sat down which took a minute to get our drink order and finally they got it but about 5 minutes after still no drinks, no one to take our order. Give it a few minutes more and we see our waitress offering coffee refills to all the other tables but yet we have nothing. 15 minutes in I get up to find her and she is like I'll be there in a bit we are busy with attitude so we finally just left. I understand the being busy but damn an acknowledgment or something! There was a couple who came after us and they got drinks and order taken before us. Yesterday I went to Melendez Mexican Restaurant I Ordered Thursday Special Chile Relleno Plate everything was great and the Mexican food was delicious and the Spanish rice and refried beans were great and freshly homemade flour tortillas and a tomato lettuce salad and I got to unsweet tea for free for the lunch special and I'm hoping I'm coming back to eat there soon I love the Mexican way and San Antonio the time was about 12:55 p.m. close to 1:00 hour so I made it to my dental appointment so I just say that food was delicious I'm hoping I can come back to eat there soon thanks very much to those people Monica to help me out read more

I would need to say this is a hidden gem on the Walzem Rd area. You really don't expect the interior decor from the outside. The multi colored walls & art paintings create a pleasant ambience. This was my first dine here & I was very impressed with the quality of food. I ordered one of the daily lunch specials that included the tea. The portion, flavor & value was plentiful. The chicken verdes enchiladas was a immediate hit for me, made with chicken breast meat in a flavorful tangy tomatillo sauce. Even the chips & salsa was very good. No greasy chips & the salsa was uniquely spiced with flavor. My server was courteous, attentive & efficient! I can't wait to try the other menu items. The sweet tea is the best part of coming here, in fact I come back for it. I have only had the breakfast tacos, my and my coworker come once or twice a week now in the morning. I usually get the potato and egg and bacon and egg and cheese . Its San Antonio so there are plenty of taco places out there , but these definitely satisfy that need for breakfast tacos. They have great lunch specials and they are all really nice and polite. Place is very clean. If you come too early in the morning you get the Roosevelt high school rush so there's that. I'm updating this to 5 stars , I love the Texas Tacos and Guisada tacos here . The service is amazing and keeps me coming back . read more

Formally known as La cocina de mi Tierra and Mi cocina linda is now called Melendez Mexican Restaurant but regardless of the new name I'm happy it's the same restaurant. This is probably my favorite Mexican restaurant when I crave authentic Mexican food. It's really a hidden gem located next to subway in a little corner in the Windcrest area. What I love about this place is that they always have homemade corn and flour tortillas! Their staff is super friendly and efficient. The food is always excellent, and no matter what we order it's always fresh just like a homemade meal. They also do an excellent job with the presentation of the plates. You get greeted from the moment you set foot inside and the bright and colorful paintings on the wall sets a nice atmosphere. Look no further for good Mexican food. read more

I read the other reviews and since it is close to home I called in a Togo orders. We had a Tuesday special. 2 cheese enchiladas, puffy taco, rice and beans, tortillas and sweet tea. always risky trying new taco joints, but this was well worth it i am super picky about my corn tortillas and machacado, and both were excellente! friend got nopalitos with egg and they were gone long before i finished everything was fresh and well prepared staff was on top of everything & quick despite crowd & for those who shy away from places that may not understand english so well, this IS the joint for you! authenticity that even gringos can order read more

We are here from NYC and figured we would ask around for good Mexican food and was recommended here by the staff of bluebonnet family dental. My husband and I enjoyed every bit of it. He ordered a chicken fajita and was surprised with the tortillas, soft and homemade. And I had two tacos one of shredded chicken and other of fish, I loved every bite. Service was on point. Only thing that surprised me was that they didn't have horchata. I love me a sweet horchata with my spicy food but it didn't make a difference with how impressed I was . our bill came out to 17 bucks that's unheard of. Keep doing your thing. Found this spot while travelling and gave it a try.It was in a shopping center not much personality but service was good.Starting with the chips n salsa I was disappointed.Chips ok but sauce just not hot enough for me.We both had tacos,hers fried mine with soft corn tortillas.Mine were beef with cilantro & onions,no limes and no squeeze bottles of sauce like you want with Mexican tacos.I think we both had the same opinion,we were hungry when we came in and full when we left,nothing special,nothing terrible,, read more

Except I'm not actually making the review up, I've been to the place. Both San Antonio and the restaurant moments away from being reviewed. I'm always down for solid Mexican food. It's always pretty damn good. I mean, at the pure base of things, it's basically the same few ingredients, just different vessels to get it to your mouth. I'm never bad about that. I love transportation. Mi Tierra was a pretty great looking place. Plenty of space, a nice outside waiting area, plus a bakery. I have never been to a place with a bakery that I didn't like. It seemed like a very authentic place, and that's coming from a resident of Michigan. A resident that eats Taco Bell. A resident who eats Taco Bell and think's THAT'S authentic Mexican. The first thing I noticed was that this place did not seem to serve burritos. Not a marker really for me, but it was something I've never came across before. I also thought that you were stuck ordering enchiladas or tacos in a meal type of setting. Upon further questioning, you can order a la cart. That was a relief. I ended up ordering the enchiladas Verdes because sometimes I ignore my color palate and go for green. And because I can't just stop eating one form of meat, cheese, and sauce, I ordered a taco. Actually, I just ordered a taco because I wanted a dryer enchilada. Or did I order the enchiladas because I wanted a wetter taco...I don't know anymore. Anywho, I ground beef, American style taco. Now, I've always been a big fan of chips and salsa. Some salsa hits, some miss. Some salsa is pureed and is basically red water. Some salsa is just a full tomato. I like my salsa like I like my orange juice. With extra calcium. Wait. Mild pulp. That's it. This salsa pretty much hit those notes. Had good flavor and a little spice left to linger. The main course came out and everything looked delicious. Green enchiladas looked exactly like I expected. However, it took me a moment to realize I was not looking at a burrito...but instead, my taco. It was served a peculiar way. wrapped, seam down, with a little bit of the meat on top, pico and lettuce on the outside, next to it. It was a burrito peacocking as a taco. I've never seem this display before, and I have been to many Taco Bell and non-Taco Bell restaurants. The taste was pretty good, though. All the taco flavor in a burrito jacket. We ordered the Tosti-Ceviche Verde, Panela Asado, Mexican Street Corn, and their Spicy Bean Dip. The Ceviche Verde was excellent, the freshness of the fish and shrimp was wonderful with the chipotle mayo and avocado. We chose to have it on the salsa Verde Tostitos and it was all great combination. The Panelo Asado was a completely new dish for us and was extremely good with a savory flavor from the salsa Tlaquepaque that mixed well with the Panela cheese. Their tortillas though not made in house, are made for them and taste like mom made them. The Mexican Street Corn was great and had the perfect bit of char taste from the corn. It was creamy and flavorful, we did think it could use just a tad more lime juice though. The Spicy Bean Dip was very good. You can't go wrong with Oaxaca, Chorizo, and pieces of pork mixed with some mildly spicy beans. Our server was fantastic. She had great recommendations for us, and was quick with checking on our drinks and generally helping us throughout our dinner. The food was prepared quickly, was hot, tasteful and refreshing. We definitely will be going back, and recommend Pan Fila to all of you.
