Yes the wait is long, but we definitely expected it. What else do you expect from a new restaurant opening in Blacksburg? We put our name on the wait list and they texted us when our table was ready, which was nice because it gave us a chance to do what we needed to do and once our table was ready, we had about 10 minutes to get there. Once we arrived, our beer, appetizers and pizza came out in a timely manner. Awesome beer list! When we got our food, I accidentally dropped a slice of pizza on the ground and the manager saw and brought me an entire free pizza when our check came out even though dropping the pizza was my fault! The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because the host on the phone was not very nice when I had called to ask about the waiting list and the phone line was busy for about 10 minutes before it finally went through. read more

I love Mellow Mushrooms everywhere so I'll always give the pizza a 4*. However, this location has a never-ending wait that makes it annoying; I have never gone there, students or not, week night or weekend and not waited for at least 30 minutes and usually 45-1.5 for a table. The pizza takes forever, but I hope this is something they perfect over time and as they do, I hope the wait time shortens just a little. I don't really get the obsession with Mellow. I mean it's good, don't get me wrong. But it is overpriced (in my opinion) and there tends to be a long wait, especially on weekends and especially when there are lots of parents / families in town. It seems to be the place to go with parents. While it appears that there is little to know parking available, there is plenty of street parking a block off of Main Street, both ways. There is also a parking lot a few blocks away, which is nice. Mellow is good for a dinner before going downtown, because it is right in the middle of the action. My friend did dinner there for her birthday and then we walked to the bars, so that was good. I guess to sum it up, the food is pretty good but overpriced and not worth a long wait. read more

I walked into this establishment with low expectations, but I ate my own words after I tried the pizza I ordered. From the moment I walked in with a large group, our server treated us like real human beings and constantly smiled and helped us out. I haven't had such great service in a really long time! Also, his mushroom art (not that kind of mushroom, get your mind out of the gutter) was superb. The food was also amazing. The pizza was flavorful with just the right balance of sauce to toppings. When there was a pizza with *almost* everything you wanted, adding an extra topping was painless and relatively inexpensive. The crust was crunchy, but not burnt-- as it should be! Needless to say, it was delicious. To drink, I ordered some IPAs they had on draft and was not disappointed by their selection of draft beers overall. I'm very impressed. And thank you to the server-- I didn't catch your name, but damn it, you are awesome and I wish you much luck on visiting Hawaii (or maybe Costa Rica) very soon! read more

20 minute wait at 6:30 pm on May 12, 2015. Kate was server and she was very nice. She was running her legs off but did a good job taking care of us. We got the White Pizza and pretzels for appetizer. The pizza took awhile. It had fresh tomatoes instead of sun dried. Good crust and good toppings. This location of MM still has room to improve on slowness. Tables needed to be bussed. Soooooo good! My friend and I each got a 10in and halfed it with different pizzas. I got buffalo chicken and kosmic karma. The buffalo chicken was great! It had the taste of buffalo sauce but wasn't overly spicy (I wouldn't have cared if it was, though). The kosmic karma was also good. It was very light with fresh ingredients. As a former employee it's not as good as the one in Roanoke. The service is very similar to all of the restaurant in Blacksburg,they all a high turnover rates. Alright, I love pizza and this place has great pizza but for what you get I don't think it's worth the price. When students are in town there is always a wait. If your in Blacksburg there are other places such as PK's & Roma's that have way better pizza for half the price. Staff is hit or miss. Parking sucks- small lot behind or you can park across the street (after business hours) or hit the parking garage at Kent square. If you've never tried Mellow Mushroom it's a super cool atmosphere and they do have some very unique pizzas. read more

I placed my pizza order by phone and the employee repeated it to me and excluded an ingredient, I repeated myself and he said he got it. After waiting the 25-30 minutes he told me it would take, I opened up the box and half of the pizza did not have the correct ingredients. I then had to order, PAY for, and wait ANOTHER 25-30 minutes for a second pizza with the missing ingredients! (Yes, I had to pay for 2 pies.) On Super Bowl Sunday at 6:00 pm the place was empty. After trying to pick up an online order I was told by a server who was busy reading that she couldn't help me. I should go to the bar. I waited for my pizza and soup. The bartender gave me the pizza. After about 5 minutes I noticed that the soup was sitting out with no one to get it for me. There were at least 4 servers standing around doing nothing. I went behind the bar and got my cup of soup. I complained to the manager on duty and she seemed to care less. When I showed up at 12.15, I was told, and I am not kidding, "oh, we don't look for the online orders"! Waited until 12.45, when I finally asked to talk to the manager. I have always liked Mellow Mushroom, even though their prices are pretty high. I choose MM over other pizza places because they offer Gluten Free crusts and (actually decent) vegan cheese. I can say that by the look from the outside of the place, I probably wouldn't have ever ventured in, had it not been for a friend of mine telling me to. That being said, I was pretty impressed with what the restaurant had to offer. The amount of offerings was comparable to those that other pizza joints had, not to mention, they had a lot of specialty items that caught my attention as well. My friends and I decided to get the 'Holy Shiitake Pie' which from what our waitress told us, would "blow our minds". So at this point I was pretty excited. It took a pretty long time for our pie to get out. In fact, a couple who ordered after us a table over, ended up getting their pizza about 8 minutes before we did. So that was annoying. We could also see a bunch of serving staff screwing around in back, which caused us to be frustrated, considering we were pretty starving at this point. Once the food came however, it was all very delicious. The pizza was cooked perfectly and the mushrooms really came out in the flavor of the whole dish. I'm eager to get back to a town with a mellow mushroom again to see what their other pizza might taste like. Over all - I'd say, this is a college town, so expect college level service. Like the Brookhaven Atlanta location, this Mellow Mushroom has a cool atmoshere and friendly employees. However, like the Brookhaven Atlanta location, the restaurant is poorly managed. Terrible wait times for food and beverage seems to be the norm. A floor manager needs to be walking the restaurant directing employees, helping with tables and talking to customers. A bus person would also be useful so the host and wait staffs can do their jobs instead. Maybe then the menus would not be covered in grease and there would be napkins and utensils when seated. Maybe management is too mellow to be in the restaurant business. read more

The pizza tastes like pizza with butter sauce drizzled over it randomly with parmesan covering their slack approach. Silly monster crust framed a very chewy almost jerky esque texture to the dough, sauce from a can that fell off the back of a truck, and cheese from Overstock.com. Now lets mosey on to my foremost complaint: the wanky slapped together faux-yuppie decor. I visited Mellow Mushroom on January 17th and I never need to visit Mellow Mushroom again. My girlfriend and her friends wanted to go, so I said sure. I was in town visiting from Arlington and love trying new places in Blacksburg. There were 7 of us on the reservation that evening. The girl who booked the reservation received a message that her table was about to be ready, so we all rushed to get to the restaurant. Once we got there, we waited another 20+ minutes to be seated. One might think that 20+ minutes isn't that bad (even if you had a reservation). To be honest, I didn't think it was that bad either, but the night got worse. I will just quickly bullet everything to save everyone's time. * The waiter was a young male (likely in his 20s). He was working way too hard for his tips. He took being friendly to a new level. Not nice friendly, but clearly wanting more money friendly. * The waiter instructed us to order appetizers (there was a 30 minute wait for pizzas). The table was completely ok with this suggestion and everyone ordered the Pretzels. The pretzels came out no more than 5 minutes before the pizza. The waiter should have told us that the pretzels also had a long wait time. * I spent 15 minutes waiting for a beer. It was only after I reminded the waiter that I received my beer. * The pizza was absolutely disgusting. My girlfriend and I decided to split the white pizza. I apologize that I do not remember the name. The pizza was to have sun dried tomatoes. If you look at the attached image, these do not look like sun dried tomatoes. I was thoroughly disappointed. After picking off all the tomatoes, the pizza was still not good. I will update this review once I receive input from the rest of my party. I would not recommend this to anyone in Blacksburg. I know there are slim pickings, but there are much better options for food. I would consider giving it a second chance, but I am not sure that they can recover. read more

We got there around 7 and were seated and told it would be 40-50 minutes. Ok, Saturday and recently opened, understandable. Waitress comes around 40 minutes says it will be ready soon, fine. About 15 minutes later, she said she screwed up, and it be another 10-15 minutes. Ok, mistakes happen, fine, she offers a free appetizer. We order the artichoke thing, she brings us some bruchetta, and that the artichoke will come. Ok, don't need that much food, but whatever. 15 minutes passes get the artichoke thing, and then notice the people next to us, who came 40 minutes after us get their pizza. We ask to get the pizza to go because of appetizers. Around 8:45 waitress says it will be 2 minutes. 8:55 no sign of pizza. Basically, we decide it is time to just cut our losses and leave. As we pack up, waitress comes by. No pizza, offers a free coupon for pizza and did not charge us. No real explanation except that she screwed up, which by this point sounded bizzare. I have had places screw up and then knowing there was a screw up, prioritize fixing it. If it had been an extra 15 minutes, after the first estimate, that would have been fine. But the fact that it took another hour and still no food, when people who came much later got served was pretty bad. I almost wondered if it had to do with the fact that I was there with my mom. Somebody mentioned the staff focuses on friends and people under 25. The pizza looked ok, good beer selection. read more

Both times I arrived 25/30min after I ordered and still had to wait another 25min, because they hadn't made my order.
