There are many different pizza's you can try out here. The cheese bread is pretty good and doesn't fill you up like most breads. I recommend the basic although I have tried the pineapple and ham a few times and it's been amazing. The atmosphere is also very good. I have been to the Mello Mushroom many times and the service and food has always been outstanding. But on my last visit Sunday 2/23, they went above and beyond their usual service. I always order anchovies on my pizza but they were out, much to my disappointment. The server told the manager what happened and by the time my pizza arrived they had sent someone out to get anchovies just to satisfy me. That is what exceptional customer service is all about! We had a groupon for Mellow Mushroom. We went on a Saturday night and it was very busy. We had to wait about 30 minutes, not too bad. We ordered the butter pretzels and 14 inch BBQ chicken pizza. Both were great but we were stuffed! This is the first time we have tried a specialty pizza instead of the traditional pepperoni and cheese. The service was great too. The pizza usually takes a little longer than other places but it's definitely worth the wait. The price for speciality pizzas are a lot more than the one topping pizzas. This is the BEST pizza I think I've ever had. We are definitely fans. My first taste of Mellow Mushroom was on a visit to Savannah, where the place struck me as extremely artistic and funky, which I liked. When I realized we had these wonderful chains in the TB area, I quickly took a ride out to Brandon. I was not disappointed. We've been a few times, with Groupon helping to foot part of the bill as you do pay for the quality. What I love is the variety here, in both the pizzas, salads, etc and the drinks. They have so many local beers it makes my heart happy. I remember my salad being tasty, and the white pizza being divine. I've also ordered just plain pepperoni (which almost seemed like a sin but hey that's what the kids wanted) and it turned out great. Something about the crust, I just can't describe. But our favorite, not to be replicated, is the Holy Shitake mushroom pizza. WOW. Please keep that on the menu! Topped in truffle oil and tasty goodness (and a little extra fat for my thighs I'm sure). Makes my mouth water just thinking about it. This is the second Mellow Mushroom location I've tried, and I was so happy to find I loved it just as much as the first time I had it. I'm a huge fan of the Holy Shiitake pie. The crust is great, and the flavor is phenomenal. I've ordered several things off this menu. The pizza is always consistent. The mushroom soup is really lovely. The wings are oversauced and aren't crispy. Service is great, though, and it's a fun place to bring friends. Tried it on a business trip. I never thought I would like whole wheat crust better than a traditional dough but this stood up there with some of the best. Crisp, tender, stretchy and delicious. I got the "White", named after the Beatles White Album. Olive oil and pesto with fresh tomatoes, sun dried tomatoes, garlic, onions and parmesian dusted crust (step aside Wolfgang). Ok, fiberglass mushroom people and 60's memorabilia as decor, this is definitely a stoner hang out, but they strive to excellent quality. Great selection of beers on tap too. This is a place that has great salads, pizza and beer. To start out with it has gluten free pizza which I usually order. If you are a big beer drinker, this place is great for overall selection of micro brews. They have at least 20 micro brews on tap, anything from your standard Shock Top to the more rare Seadog Blueberry beer which is very good if you have not tried it. The ambience is a retro hippie type décor with an emphasis on casual and relaxed and very low key. The food is reasonably priced and the pizza is on the unique side, not your standard New York or Chicago style pizza but they have a style of their own. This is not just another pizza place. It is the best pizza place. Other than the food being delicious, Mellow Mushroom is so great because there is an endless number of combinations you can put on your pizza. One of my favorite combinations to put on pizza is the meatballs, with ricotta cheese. Another favorite of mine is the pesto chicken and avocado pizza. But if you are not in a creative mood, there are excellent choices to choose from directly off the menu. From buffalo chicken to the mega veggie, you can find something you like. And the good news is if you don't like pizza, you don't have to stay at home while your friends are having the time of their lives at Mellow Mushroom. They have more than just pizza. In fact, they have calzones, salads and hoagies as well. To start off my meal I like to get one of their appetizers. And I have to admit, even the appetizers are as good as the pizza. My favorite appetizer is a tossup between the cheesy bread and the meatballs. Each are served with marinara sauce. In addition to the great food, the atmosphere is good as well. It has a very casual, relaxed atmosphere where you feel at home as soon as you walk in. This atmosphere is further enhanced by the staff who never let your drink go empty. And best of all, the price is extremely reasonable. Even if you have a large group, you will not break the bank. Overall, I definitely recommend Mellow Mushroom to everybody. read more

Mellow Mushroom is FANTASTIC. This location is NOT. It is crowded, noisy, slow and has frankly disappointing service. On our last trip, the pretzel appetizer came out when we were halfway through the (wrong toppings; the waitperson flat didn't seem to care) pizza, and they were actually nasty about the fact that we didn't want them anymore. Even on the trips where they got the orders right, it has just never been up to the standards we're used to at other Mellow Mushroom locations across the South. Go to the superb location over by Citrus Park Mall. Even with the drive time, it's probably quicker and will be a MUCH better dining experience. read more
