We were surpised by how good the pizza was here, but a little on salty side. I would rate this restaurant a 3+/4 (no 3.5 star option). The crust was fluffy with a nice browning, moist. The pizza had alost of flavor. I forgot the name of the pizza we ordered but it was on the left of the menu, no meat, with tomatoes, feta & pesto. We brought our medium pizza leftovers (for 2 people) and ate them the next day - do not normally do this with pizza. The greek salad with herbal dressing is good - but specify if you want the 1 serving (5+$) because without notifying us they brought us a double serving (9+$) - please ask us next time. The salad for two was huge. It had nice fresh vegetables, greek olives & feta cheese. The bartenders were attentive. Next time I am there I will try the McKinney Mule - sounds delicious. The music is excellent. I considered buying one of their t-shirts, very cool graphics for a restaurant. This is a nice date night restaurant if you want to have a drink and share food on the square. My wife and I went here for dinner tonight and we really enjoyed it! The waitress was alright and the vibe was very chill. We ordered the garlic cheese bread for our app and were not disappointed! The sauce that came with it was just as good. We ordered and large pizza with our favorite toppings(pepperoni, black olives, and hamburger. The pizza is really good but I think the best part is the crust! I could eat that by itself lol only reason I wouldn't give it 5 stars would be the service. It wasn't bad but it could have been better. We got refills once and didn't see her much during the rest of the time we were there except when she brought the food. Went here today (Saturday) at 2pm for lunch with friends. When I walked in there were already about a couple of folks waiting for tables although there were a number of empty tables. Nevertheless the hostesses advised it'd be a 15 minute wait for a table. After waiting 20 minutes a group that came in after me was seated prior to my group, which I mentioned to the hostess uk why are they being seated ahead of me when I arrived before them... apparently their name was put ahead of mine yet I arrived & put my name in before them. This was already setting the tone of our experience. We were greeted by our server who took our drink and appetizers order. We ordered a pitcher of Sangria which took well over 20 minutes to arrive even though we're watching the bartender screw around on his phone the entire time. Our pitcher and food finally arrived, our server rarely checked in on us or refilled our waters during our meal. The ONLY reason for the stars is because the food! I love the pizza here! It's so good! We got the Kosmic Karma & bbq chicken pizza which were delicious! Otherwise the service from beginning to end was sad... they were clearly understaffed or the staff is not well trained. I would suggest management get a handle on your staff & training or as more people won't be so generous. Also due to the wait a number of folks walked out because they didn't understand the wait with so many tables being empty. REVIEW FROM 5/27/17 EXPERIENCE: This is the second time I've visited Mellow Mushroom on the McKinney Square. The service during this experience was improved from my last visit but not 'good'. Specifically, the waitress we were assigned to, although possessing a good demeanor, was not very attentive. We visited the restaurant at 5:30 p.m. on a Saturday (5/27/18) - seating at about 40% capacity. The server did not refill our drinks but once through the 75-90 min time we were there. There was flatly just not enough attention to the table other than taking the order, bringing the orders out and providing a check. That's not the heart of customer service. If you're looking for excellent service and atmosphere, I would try Cadillac Pizza on the McKinney Square. I'm in a group of 10 people on Monday afternoon (4/3/17) at approximately 12pm eating at Mellow Mushroom. There were maybe three or four groups in the entire restaurant - very slow. Each of us orders our meals. THREE of the meals were INCORRECTLY RECORDED BY THE WAITER. I don't mean kind of wrong, I mean TOTALLY WRONG. ANOTHER order WENT MISSING. The bar tender, a young man with a shaved head, was our waiter. He showed no empathy and offered no apology for the incorrect orders we received OR the fact that he lost an order. Despite the horrible experience everyone at our table kept our cool and were nice to our bar tender/waiter. At no time did a manager come to apologize or did our waiter offer to comp any meals. The corrected orders took nearly 30 minutes to receive from the time they were re-ordered - almost a ONE HOUR WAIT for food in a restaurant that wasn't busy. When we asked the waiter if it would take much longer to receive our food, asking only once after about 20 minutes of waiting for the re-orders, his response was "I hope so". He said NOTHING ELSE as he walked off back to the bar, standing there alone. Our entire group was done eating by the time the four members finally received their orders, without apology. There is a reason all the other restaurants on the square have 1-2 hour waits on the weekend and this place seats you right away....Took ten minutes to be greeted by our server. We ordered pretzel bits took 23 minutes even though there were three other tables in this place. the cheese it is served with had separated and was oily on the top and goupy on the bottom. They brought that to our table looking very unappealing. The only redeeming factor was the funky Q that was a great pizza. Everything else was way off mark. Beer and margarita came out within about 10 minutes, but my glass of wine took about 20 for some reason. We ordered a couple apps and those also took about 20-25 minutes, but after being there about an hour, our server came by and said that our pizza we ordered was 'being screened' which I guess means adding seasoning to the crust, and should be out shortly. 10 minutes later, I tracked her down and asked for the check. No pizza still and it's 5 minutes til 8pm and my kids are really hungry. I had to wait about 10 minutes for the check and the server excused that away by saying 'my manager is taking the pizza off - we aren't going to charge you for that.' Uh, ya - I wasn't planning on paying for it because we never got it. I don't know what's so difficult about a pepperoni pizza, but it shouldn't take nearly an hour to make. Got our bill for the two apps and three drinks, which was pretty annoying. All we got was an 'I'm sorry' and grabbed Little Caesar's on the way home. The reason we decided to eat here was because there was a 1.5 hour wait at The Yard and it was a perfect evening for eating out - awesome weather. We'll just wait next time. Went to Mellow Mushroom with a group of 13 (called ahead) to celebrate my daughters 10th birthday. We were seated right away which was great because with a group that large we were expecting at least a little bit of a wait. Got to our table and were "greeted" by our waitress (i believe her name was Hanini) who asks what we want to drink. I asked if they sold pitchers of beers to which she says yes. My spouse then says - is it a better deal to order a pitcher vs. single beers? And she responds "I mean... I guess it depends" ??? Whatever that means. We ordered single beers. I tell her it is my daughters birthday and do they do anything to celebrate birthdays? Waitress says "No it's not like you get a free dessert or anything" ummm... ok, I didn't say we wanted a free dessert. I was thinking more along the lines of singing her happy birthday but moving on. I wish I could say this girl was not personable but it was more like she had negative personality if that is even a thing. When it comes time to order, a member of our party ordered a sandwich and the waitress asked if she wanted the chips that come with it and my friend replied "can i get a small salad instead?" Now - we all know it CAN be done that she could have a small salad with her sandwich even if it were to cost extra (understandably) but the waitress says "no, we don't do that." Umm... ok chips is fine i guess. The rest of the night continues like this. I am certain that I NEVER saw her smile. Not even once. Not even at a different table. When I say never - I mean it. Never! I could go on and on about how poor the service was so the only reason this place is getting 2 stars is because the food was actually good. It's a shame that we won't ever be back... What a nightmare...the restaurant was so over crowded and understaffed...and our waitress was either on her first day at the job--or was just in that "not care" mental space. The simple food we ordered (salad, buffalo wings, and a pizza), all arrived wrong. The salad--half the lettuce was browned/old. Absolutely gross. The pizza took OVER an hour to arrive, even though the tables that were around us and had arrived after us--had all received their meals already. Ordered a white cheese pizza and had a couple of beers. The pizza was tasty, and it is not easy to find a butter/garlic white pizza. The crust is a bit too thick for me. It is like getting an order of bread that takes up 1/4 of your pizza. The beer selection is large both on tap and in bottles/cans, but is a bit pricey even for domestics. This might have been a 4 star except that I don't like having to audit my receipt. The server was very nice, but somehow a 4th beer made it onto my receipt when only three were consumed. Mellow Mushroom is not about fast/cheap/hurry up I have an appointment with my dog's therapist. It is MELLOW. And they do that superbly. The menu is awesome, and don't get me started on the beer selection. These people know their product, they can make recommendations that will change your way of thinking. Don't come here if you are unable to mellow out and enjoy. Bartenders here are on spot. Food fresh and always to standard. Maybe it's the reviewers that need some improvement. I've never ever gone to a mellow mushroom for service but the food and atmosphere generally trumps that. Not this time. We were sat and waited 10 minutes for service while approximately (not really approximately, exactly... because i had plenty of time to count) SIX employees (including our supposed waitress) stood and chatted at the hostess stand. We asked for a table further from the front row seat to the live band. We ordered a drink (a vodka Gimlet and a beer). A bartender comes over and asks which vermouth we want. We explain that we weren't aware of a recipe with vermouth but thatvodka, lime juice and simple syrup is fine. She says ok and walks away. THEN.. Another bartender comes over to argue over it. He was rude. If they didn't come over in the first place whatever they made would have been fine I'm sure of it. Every time we order it, it's slightly different... we're not that picky but if you ASK then don't come back and tell us we're wrong. Two things could have happened and there would be no issue. 1. Don't ask is how we want the drink or 2. Make it how we said when you asked if you have all ingredients. So, in the end, we ordered a glass of water to avoid any confusion. This also probably explains why Cadillac pizza had an hour and a half wait and mellow mushroom is half empty. read more
