We are utterly disgusted with this establishment. We came here for my sons birthday and ordered three small pizzas. We waited over an hour for our food. By the time we reached the last few pieces of one of our pizzas we realized their was a huge wad of hair baked into the crust. It was all over the plate and weaved into the crust when we showed the waitress she let us know she was going to mention it to the GM. The GM gets to our table and let's us know it was her hair that was cooked into the pizza and that we will be discounted for the inconvenience of eating her HAIR. When we do receive the check we see the discount of $3.75 on a $15 pizza. I don't think taking off $3.75 can make up for eating someone's hair. read more

The pizza is great. Between our group there was an order of pepperoni (boring), the works, and the funky q. chicken. Everyone said how great their selection was. Unfortunately, I can't get over how dining in on a Monday took almost two hours. Our order arrived at about an hour and then our waitress never came back with our checks. We ended up asking another waitress to ask our waitress for the checks and then offered to pay at the cash register to expedite the process. I'm sure part of this is due to short staff since everyone is lazy and doesn't want to work these days. But it was also a Monday and really not that crowded. I saw at least two other tables that were quite disappointed with the service and sent members of their party to try seek out a member of the wait staff. I don't know, maybe this place needs to go to carry out only until they can figure out their staffing issue. read more

Somewhat quaint location, across from the University, this is one of my favorite pizza places EVER. We decided to try a gluten-free crust, and it was quite good. The taste of the pizza was very flavorful. It reminded me of what pizza used to taste like many years ago. Good fresh ingredients, not greasy at all. Our server was very helpful and friendly, and even though we were seated in a rather remote part of the restaurant, she was quick to always keep our glasses filled and make sure we didn't need anything. I'm a pizza lover and we've seen these from Nashville, TN to FL but had never tried one. We finally stopped on a Sunday afternoon while traveling back from FL. There is surrounding motorhome sufficient parking, but it's hard to get to (at least via our GPS) Mobile just needs to trim their trees better! Too low and every time we come here we are raking the trees. :( That said- and being the only downfall- we finally got there right at opening time 12:00pm. We looked over the menu- ordered the cheesy bread for an appetizer. WOW! It's divine! The bread is so yummy- french bread with ooey gooey cheese melted and the best red sauce ever. I couldn't wait for the pizza. We got 2 large pizzas- 1 pepperoni & 1 half cheese, half hamburger. I LOVED IT!!!!!! The crust was just the right thickness (or thinness) and the sauce yummy, with lots of cheese falling off- and a great tasting basted crust. I'm sorry I waited so long to try it. I'll def be finding the ones in my area to eat here. I'm hooked. Worth the drive anywhere. The one thing I didn't like- the "mushroom decor" painted on the walls was a little "NOT" mushroomy, but a little perverted and grotesque feeling- didn't like that for myself or all of the kids- the mushrooms they painted on the walls didn't look like "traditional mushrooms" nor the ones used in advertising materials. We had the house special with a white sauce base of olive oil instead if tomato base. We al ordered the breadstick, not realizing there was a ton of olives when it reached our table. The waitress knew that I did not like olives but failed to mentioned it. I know it was probably my fault but still, a good waitress would have been more attentive. So I haven't had Mellow Mushroom in about 3 years and suddenly had a craving for it. I remember it being amazing. But my god, it's expensive. After a $5 coupon and a 15% tip, I spent $72 on two pizzas (added chicken to a pizza) and an order of pesto garlic bread, drove home and found they skimped on the toppings on both pizzas (not as badly on the House half of the one half-and-half pizza, but the other half and the entirety of the other pizza was lacking for the price). They left off the onions from my Buffalo chicken pizza and barely put any chicken on the Great White (paid $4 to add it). I wasn't expecting a pound of toppings per slice, but dude... For that price, it should be nothing but smiles when those pizza boxes get opened. Hugely disappointing. read more

First off, the food was phenomenal. Anything with mozzarella cheese, delicious. Unfortunately, the service was slow and lacked attentiveness. My sister and I alone waited probably a total of 45 minutes between getting greeted, getting, drinks, and then the check. You seat yourself, so no one knows when they receive a customer, unless they happen to notice you. But spoiler, it takes them 15 mins to notice me almost EVERY single time. People will walk by you a thousand times and never offer anything. Even if you want to escalate it to a manager (who was my waiter one time when I had to wait 18 mins to even order a drink). 0/10 for every single person at this location. Do not waste your money. This location should be absolutely ashamed to hold the franchise name. At best this is Wal*mart style pizza. I'd prefer dominos over this location and I hate dominoes. I grew up in the Jax beach area and Mellow mushroom was the place to be. With great beers and great atmosphere not to mention killer pizza. However this location was absolute trash, I was embarrassed to bring a work colleague here after boasting how awesome their pizza and beer is. The only similarity to a typical mellow mushroom was the dough, other wise the toppings were not correct nor fresh. At best they were microwave prior to being placed on the pizza. Not to mention the bar tenders "sly" comments and attitude. Way to go Anyways I strongly discourage this location and would probably eat a slice of pizza from a hobo before returning here. If I had to score this I'd say at most a 3.2 on the pie. Typical mellows that I've been to I'd easily say were 9.2, if not better. read more

Walked in, was greeted by the two hosts, sat down at the booth, and 10 minutes later, not one person walked by the booth to greet or take our drink order. Sad thing is we sat near the bar and were still ignored. The waiter came to the two tables behind us and the one in front of us but never acknowledged us. I have been coming to the West Mobile Mellow Mushroom for over a year and can sat this place is a great pizza joint that is good for families or good for a college hangout. The food is very good. I've had numerous pizza's, a couple calzones, the wings, and a few of their sandwhices. Each item (save for the wing's) was cooked with very fresh ingredients and was served hot. The wings are good so don't misread my comment - they just didn't have anything that really made me feel they were different from your average run-of-the-mill chicken wings. My favorite dish is the portabello and cheese sandwhich on French bread. Amazing combination of ingredients that make a really good taste that lasts on the pallet for some time. The staff is very professional and always seems to be in a good mood. They are sometimes short staffed but do put an true effort to check on each customer/table frequently. The beer selection is good but doesn't have any gems to distinguish them from most bars in Mobile. They have 16 taps and the most unique beer amongst then is their house brew Bogart Pale Ale. It is definitely worth a taste test if you enjoy beer. I would agree with an earlier review that a beer list would be beneficial but completely disagree with their lack of knowledge on their beer selection. I have yet to meet a server who didn't know what was on tap or in bottle. The building is smaller and does get packed at peak times so keep that in mind. The outdoor patio is large and has a good amount of seating but gets drowned out by the traffic on the main road that runs by the restraunt. All in all I would and have recommended this restraunt to people and would tell anyone who was unimpressed to give it a second try. read more

I really like this place. This is one that we save up for. Not that it's expensive but when we eat there, we freakn eat there. My daughter loves the Hummus, ask for extra pita, I always get a Greek and take half home for later. Pizzas are where we run into a problem. The wife believes that pizza should only come with dough, tomato sauce, cheese and toppings. I believe that anything goes. So we normally have to order two pizzas. Sure we could order a half and half, but that would leave me no leftover to go with my salad. Great beer selection and yes, my wife has caught me checking out the waitresses. I'm cool with that. First I want to say ROLLLLL TIDEEE Baby! I was in there last night, I had a few drinks and then moved to a table. A few friends met to watch the Bama game. I had a Goat Island Brewery - The Richters Pils as well as a few others. Our server told us the story of how this beer recipe was discovered after the Tuscaloosa tornadoes and is a prohibition era recipe. This seemed perfect to go with the game. The beer selection was awesome. A good mix of local and regional offerings. (Mostly the local stuff) It is pretty cool seeing new breweries pop up across the state. One of my crew ordered a specialty pizza and I was lucky enough to get a few slices. I usually go for the Buffalo Chicken pizza but the server sold us on this pie. It was sooo good! I live in Birmingham and have not had as good a time in Mellow for years. I did have to leave my car overnight, thanks for offering an uber, and picked it up early today. Our server was professional and asked to make sure I was ok before leaving. The two locations I go to, back home, could take a note from these guys. This chain is consistently good no matter which location I go to. I have been to one in Tuscaloosa and one in West Palm Beach. Both of them have excellent menus, something for everyone, and of course there original incredible pizza. Sherri Brown is my girl and I can't figure out if she is the most wonderful person I have ever met or if she is bat shit crazy. She works in the kitchen at the Mellow Mushroom, at Old Shell and University. Her employer gave every one the option being furloughed and drawing unemployment or continuing to work and doing curb side service. Even with unemployment under the new guidelines paying more than her take home she decided to stay at work. She said that the people she works with are wonderful and the customers are loyal. She told me that as long as the lights are on she will be there. People a lot of our finest eateries are not going to survive this virus. You have to eat and you have to go somewhere to get. Please patronize the places that are going the extra mile to keep you fed.
