I asked what I should have for breakfast and was told Shakshuka. I think Shakshuka translates to "we're going to ruin every breakfast you'll eat after this!" In the small pan was two perfectly poached eggs covered with moroccan tomato sauce that was topped with secret herbs/spices and chimichurri. One small dish flanking it had creamalicious hummus and the other small dish had beautifully brined olives with a surprising twist - brined lemon pieces (I ate everything!). Don't even get me started on the fluffy and warm piece of flatbread which in reality was awesome thickbread. I finished with a dried apricot and mixed natural nuts. I have been *waiting* patiently for a place to do my work with more personality than Starbucks. Mellow Yellow lives up to its name. I spent a few hours there Sunday doing some work (I'm a teacher) and I had two coffees and an avocado salad. The coffee was insanely strong! I was shaking a bit--my fault for over caffeinating. The avocado salad was fairly priced and DELICIOUS. The staff was so friendly and it really seemed like a business run by a bunch of friends. Love it. Will be back often!!! read more

My Pop is Israeli and is super fussy about Shakshouka. After reading some positive Yelp reviews about this place, and this dish in particular, I decided to try it. Mind you, I had a lot riding on the line (a meal full of Dad complaining and spiteful eating). The reviews were spot on! Super savory eggs with the right amount of spice. Very good pita bread too (to my relief, that would have been a complaint heard for weeks). The owner of this new place is super friendly and I'm looking forward to breakfast here again. I stumbled upon this coffee shop by accident and I am so glad that I did. Once you walk in the vibe is very relaxed and laid back. It is a great place to sit and read a book but also meet other people. There is music playing in the background but it is not at all distracting- in fact, it really adds to the Manhattan-vibe of the shop. The food and coffee was also so good. LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Love the Greek Frappe (large foamy sweetened delicious iced coffee) and Nir's Iced Coffee (kind of like a frappuccino, but 100x better and doesn't taste artificial). As the name suggests, this spot is very mellow and chill. The outside design will definitely catch your eye amidst the grey concrete buildings that surround it. The ambience, music, decor, and staff all contribute to the vibe. I walked in here to get some work done and eat a light lunch. I got the shakshuka that usually comes with pita or some other kind of bread, but when i mentioned i was gluten free, they gave me a pumpkin type of spread(not sure what it was called but it was very tasty) and babaganoush. The shakshuka comes with hummus, olives, and dried fruit on a beautifully assembled platter. To wash down my meal I got the Moroccan tea, although a bit too sweet for me, i still enjoyed it (if you do not like your tea sweet, mention this when you order!) Mellow Yellow offers other Middle Eastern food and pastries which all looked so appetizing but being allergic to what seems like everything (gluten and dairy), my options here were rather limited. Came here around lunch time and was shocked to see the place almost empty with plenty of seats available. Maybe I am just used to the LES, and Lower Manhattan in general where everything is always packed? Anyways, the vibe, the food, the decor, all are on point in this cute, cozy spot. This is a place I will NEVER be returning to. Warm and friendly on the outside. Disorganized rude and unwelcoming on the inside. Let me start off by saying that I am a registered behavioral technician and work with children on the autism spectrum as my full time job. I work 7 days a week and doing work on my laptop is definitely a necessity for me. I walked into this establishment and saw in very small print "no laptop on weekends" on a chalkboard near the register. I thought "how weird is that" and decided I'd be honest with the owner rather than ignoring it. I was in need to use my laptop (my time sheet for my job is due) for a short period of time. I asked the owner and He looked at me and gave me an unfriendly "no". I looked back in astonishment. (Im trying to give you guys business I thought) They have a bar at the window of the cafe for singles to sit in peace. I asked him if I could sit at the bar and use my laptop there and again I was given an unfriendly "no" followed by "My place my rules. If you don't like it write a bad yelp review." I walked out because I do not give business to the rude and intolerant. However while I was outside trying to find a nearby alternative a couple walked out and I found out they had been inside using their laptop for 2 hours UNBOTHERED. I told them what happened to me and they agreed to walk back inside to confront the owner. When confronted he said to the couple "I saw you guys and I was going to give you guys 15 more minutes." A 15 minute warning that never came may I add. I told the owner that you cannot pick and choose who has to follow this rule. I told him it was very unethical and that if you that passionate about people not using laptops that maybe it should be written bigger than the small print hidden on a chalk board in the back of the restaurant. He prompted that since I had not bought anything (i was totally going to before all of this and I'm so glad I didn't) that I was not a customer and that it didn't matter. The couple who came back in with me and another older woman who heard this entire exchange, stood in solidarity with me that his behavior was unacceptable and that they would not be returning. I wonder why I was treated this way. Seeing as though I was the only person of color it is easy to point the finger and call it racism, which it very well might have been. However, nonetheless I wanted to share this very unpleasant experience with you guys in hopes to save someone else the headache and unfair treatment. If I could give 0 stars I would. read more

The service is extremely quick and the guys behind the counter are fun and friendly! Came here for brunch and the food is amazingly fresh and delicious. We got the shakshuka, pita za'atar, and israeli salad for 3 people. All our dishes were flavorful and did a great job of filling us up without feeling too full, I highly recommend all 3. The pita was warm and doughy. Came here on my day off on a Tuesday for some brunch with my wife. We both got the shakshuka which I gather is their signature dish from all the mentions and pics of it on their yelp page. I have a feeling this place gets crazy on weekends, so if you can make it mid weekday that would be ideal. It's a tiny little place but we found there to be plenty of open seats/tables for you to enjoy a midweek brunch. The place had a nice relaxing vibe and our order taker was really nice. I asked if I should get add feta to my shakshuka order and she said it doesn't need it. Love that she didn't up-sell me because she was right, it didn't need it at all! The shakshuka was phenomenal!
