I love finding local gems while traveling. Mendocino Cookie Company was a great place to stop in the morning for coffee and a vanilla cinnamon scone. The staff was very friendly and the coffee was delicious. They have a window that opens to the street where you can order but you can also go inside the building. Masks are required indoors and they only allow one person or family inside the store at a time. Would definitely recommend. They had a great assortment of drinks and pastries/cookies. read more

Before heading to the beach, we picked up coffee and cookies, of course. For our "breakfast", we got the Oatmeal and Backpacker. Both were good and super dense but I prefer the backpacker; it's a bit sweeter and has more random bits and things which gives it flavor. My sister has family obligations so I usually pick up treats on my adventures for her. I picked up a chocolate chip, double fudge, chocolate walnut, and backpacker. I didn't take a nibble of each one before giving them to her so I can't give a fair review for those flavors. Cute little cafe tucked inside a historic building. We got coffee, smoothies, chocolate cookie, and savory scone to share for a quick snack since we already had breakfast. The cookie was a bit too crunchy for me since I prefer soft cookies, but it was still tasty and freshly made. I'm not a fan of chocolate and found it a bit too sweet, but it was probably better than most chocolate cookies I've had in life. Both the coffee and smoothies were just normal, but I don't think it's their expertise. The scone was SO SO amazing though - crispy on the outside and yet so soft, pillowy, and fluffy inside. I think it was cheese and jalapeno, so it was really flavorful and smelled so good. Wish we got 2 scones instead! Employees were super helpful, patient, and friendly as well. read more

I bought three cookies with the idea I'd eat them over three days. Those cookies didn't even make it home to the Bay Area. Backpacker - good, a touch too sweet for me with the butterscotch chips. Chocolate chip walnut - really good just a tiny bit too sweet (I like my chocolate on the bitter side). Shortbread - normally not my go to but I bought one because I saw several people raving about them and it ended up being my favorite. I purchased a small black coffee but I wish I'd bought a larger size, it was full bodied and smooth. The women working there are really sweet; they even sanitized my credit card which was a nice touch. Definitely a must stop for me on my next road trip up North. read more

Bangin' cookies. If you are local and checking reviews first, kudos for doing so but for sure, get you some. A bit of advice. A bakers dozen costs somewhere around fifteen dollars and change. A bakers dozen gets you thirteen cookies, by the way. A roll of uncooked cookie dough costs only ten dollars and can yield about the same, so it's desirable for those of us that need a good present that can travel. Wish I knew about the cookie dough, that was something I read after purchase; doh! My trip was a few days back and I am out of cookies! Snack foods in general and / or cookies is not something I keep handy. Since having these splendid cookies, I'm in need of a cookie fix and thinking of getting some from a local bakery. Or go online and order another dozen for now. Their cookies are the right mix of being like "Soft Batch" cookies, except soft in the real sense and not because of GMO shit making it soft. Just sweet enough to cure your sugar fix. MCC also offers Gluten-free cookies and I was happy to hear the clerk ask if she should pack them separate. For those not knowing, if you live Gluten free the food cannot touch regular stuff otherwise can be contaminated. FYI, Glass beach is a few blocks away. read more

Stumbled upon this small shop along one of the main streets in Fort Bragg, and I stopped by while waiting for a lunch table in a nearby restaurant. They were about to close for the day so they were out of most cookie flavors, but I was able to get their chocolate chip walnut and peanut butter cookies to go. The chocolate chip walnut cookie was amazing! It was perfectly sweet and soft while the walnuts added a nice crunch in almost every bite. The peanut butter cookies were decent but not really noteworthy. Service was quick and easy, and the cookies were reasonably priced at around $2 each. As a college student and a local of this small town I often rely on our cafes for wifi. Especially during these times in which my college campus is closed and in door dining has resumed they are a great commodity. For the past 2 weeks or so I began coming to this cafe and doing homework on one of their tables. Unfortunately, I will not be returning, and if I do it will be reluctantly. While they have adequate coffee and reasonable prices, I was greeted with a young man who asked me to leave because they were closing in 45 minutes and needed the table I was sitting on. I don't yet understand why and hope to hear from the owner as to why they have this requirement to kick paying customers out when there was nearly an hour left until closing. While I did not ask for this guy's name he has red hair and a tall stature. Come get coffee but definitely not a welcoming place if you want to study/work/have access to wifi. read more

My whole family parked across the street and was on the way over across the street about three minutes before five. The light was long and we arrived right at five just after they closed the window. I came upon the Mendocino Cookie Company while questing for internet access and ended up returning three times over the course of four days. Their cookies are very sweet and very chewy. I sampled the molasses and a backpacker's cookie (oats, butterscotch chips and oodles of other things). I also had their coffee, and they asked if I'd like room at the top, which I always appreciate because I *do* like room at the top for my cream. My companion had hot chocolate and while I did not sample it, I thought it looked delicious with lots of whipped cream dolloped on it. Did I say they have internet access? Oh may wee. It's free, it's wireless, and you can sit out in the open space between the cookie company and several other shops in the building. This meant a lot to me, as I was staying in a rustic hotel that had no cell phone reception, no phones that allowed long distance calls, and of course, no internet access. The center was soft and gooey like you expect from a molasses cookie, while the edges had that perfect crumb and crunch like a gingersnap. Throughout the whole cookie there were small bits chewy candied ginger. It was SUCH a good combination. I am so happy I chose this cookie, even when the rest looked equally tempting, just because it was so unexpectedly delicious! I also ordered a 2-shot cappuccino. The espresso was so dark and strong that it tasted more like an actual macchiato. If I had known, I would have ordered a latte instead, but the cookie more than made up for my cappuccino disappointment. There is a walk up window right on the street, a half dozen bar stools inside, and more seating in the building which is nice when the weather isn't cooperating. But none of this matters. Stopped in here after visiting Glass Beach. I ordered three cookies and Cold Brew. The cold Brew was just ok. I didn't specify how much syrup I wanted in the drink, and to my horror, four pumps were put in my drink. However, that was my fault. The peanut butter chocolate chip cookie was very good, crispy on the edges and soft in the middle. My parents tried the fudge brownie cookie and the chocolate chip with walnuts and enjoyed them both. Parking and navigating this area of Fort Bragg can be moderately difficult if you are not familiar with the area. It's also a little confusing trying to enter the store, but there is an outside walkup window. read more
