Came in here a few weeks back and absolutely loved the service that Sonia provided my fiancé and I. Being Mexican and from Central WA, I know a good carniceria and what makes it authentic. This place has it all. From the meat to all the Mexican products this place reminded me of home. My fiancé and I were buying meat for a carne Asada and ended up buying a few pounds of arrachera which is thinly cut from skirt steak, also called a fajita cut. This cut is ideal for grilling. We also bought some Diesmillo, which is also thinly cut only this is from the chuck steak, a little tougher but perfect for grilling as well. All in all I can't wait to go back and get more meat. Love love love this Mexican market! I love cooking Mexican, and Latin American food, so Mendoza's has all the ingredients my heart desires. They carry some vegetables, homemade tortillas, homemade salsas, different kinds of cheeses, whole and crushed peppers, and pan dulces. They also sell pre-marinated taco meat and well as having a little stand where they serve tacos. All really fair prices and the folks that work there are so sweet. Love the tamales here the chicken and the chilies and cheese. They have lots of Mexican food staples like peppers, canned Hispanic brand foods, home made fresh pico, salsa green and fiery hot salsas. They also have a taco, tamale, Chicharron and other Hispanic soups like what looks like posole, and what I thought was menudo. They have lots going on here. We came here this time for a pinata, which is the best quality one I've found compared to other places and party stores (this pinata is tough to crack!). Great little mexican grocery store. Their homemade chorizo is really good. I regularly go there just to get the chorizo so I can make chorizo and eggs. For anyone wondering where to get baked Colombian goods like buñuelos, empanadas, arepas and pan de bono (same as pan de queso), they carry these in the frozen section. This is my favorite Mexican food in the city! We always, always order the guisados (kind of like a plate lunch) which comes with a main, rice, beans, and tortillas. We've passed this place a bunch of times on our way to Jalapeno thinking they were just a Hispanic grocery store. I'm so glad we decided to go in this time.These tacos are out of this world. First, they are HUGE and they are extremely flavorful. There is an awesome self serve salsa bar as well. We split one taco and the chicken soup (which was also ginormous). Ordered a carnitas plate and a Chile relleno. The carnitas were fantastic as well as the beans. However the rice was extremely garlicky. Generally the rice is the first thing to go on my plate but I left it. Also my relleno was stone cold. When I got ready to pay I told him that is was cold and thought he wouldn't charge me for it since we didn't eat it due to it being cold. On the contrary I paid 21$ for 1 carnitas plate, a cold Chile relleno I didn't consume, and a small coke. The only good things: carnitas, beans, and a clean tienda, but definitely not worth the money or the hype. read more

Very ehhh mediocre. Not many products at all and definitely not many authentic ones . Very small and dusty and expensive which is crazy for what they sell. There is no really frozen foods and very few things besides snacks . So it's hard to even call it grocery or meat market more like a corner store with some meat cuts there . They also have no prices labeled and it's bizarre and you just have to guess . They do have home cooked Mexican fair available but again with little assortment. Once in a while, I really need to sit down in front of the tv and eat 3 tamales. I can't explain it, it's just part of who I am. If I'm not mistaken, Mendoza's makes their tamales fresh pretty much all the time and they make my taste buds sing ... and then moan ... and then food coma nap. I know it's pretty much entirely wrong to say it, but I consider tamales to be glorious mexican pigs in a blanket. Or cows in a blanket... or jalapeno cheese animals...in a blanket. Really amazing little gem of a store. Super helpful, friendly folks. I had an urgent need this week as I'm making tamales for my husband's birthday (12/23). I went to another little Mexican store on Aurora that has always carried a Guatemalan chili pepper called chiltepe also known as Piquín peppers, not dry but in brine. They had sold the business since last year and I was devastated. It was the only place I had ever seen them and I've been to most Latin stores around Seattle/Bothell/Renton. I stopped by Mendoza to buy pepitoria (pumpkin seeds) and happen to ask if they carry the Piquín. They didn't, he said he'd check if he could get them and I left my phone number never expecting much to come out of it. Three days later I got the call that he had it in!! Who does that amymore? Super amazing people and customer service. Thank you for helping me out on what felt like an impossible mission. read more

The owner asked me how'd we here about this place. I told him that I saw all the positive reviews on yelp. He asked me to yelp about my experience and not lie. To be honest, I usually never yelp about store, more so restaurants. But before he even asked, I planned to anyway. :) This place is awesome! I live in north Seattle and my bf has been traveling all the way up to lynnwood to go to a mexican grocery store. He moved from L.A. a few years back and is picky about where he gets his meats. People have even asked me where can they get carne asada meats besides the grocery stores. I never knew of any places in Seattle. Until now! This place is close to Greenlake and carries hard to find items. My bf pointed out items that he grew up on. They had a wide selection of meats. The carne asada that we purchased turned out awesome. This place not only carries meats and groceries, but they have baked goods and a hot case! And they carry grasshoppers! They have a kick to them, but I like that. The owner gave us a sample and I knew we should've bought them. They carry the two versions of chicharrones (pork rinds) which is awesome if you like them. The bf loves them! I didn't try them personally. Got the cactus salad and it was disappointing. It tasted bland. :( I'll definitely be coming back and be telling people about this place. I want to go back and try the tamales due to all the positive reviews on them through yelp. I wished I tried their tacos here instead of going next door. Btw. I thought they only spoke Spanish here... The guy speaks English toooo! He's really nice. Totally will be back. No need to go to lynnwood. read more

The Lower Aurora area finally has a great grocery. Mendoza's is a small top notch mercado right next to the Torta King and it's got everything you need to prepare great Mexican food. A great butcher counter with beef and pork cut correctly for Mex dishes. They also stock cheese and make their own carnitas, which is fantastic. They also make their own chorizo which I haven't tried but is made in house. They stock fresh produce and when I asked if they had a ripe Avocado she went in the back and came out with three to choose. They have all of the canned goods and a great selection of peppers. They speak good English and are really friendly. The prices are very fair. They also make their own Tamales which I haven't tried. We talked cooking and she and her husband (I think) had some great tips. The prices are fair. Now the trick will be to keep them in business. The guy in front of me spoke no English and rung up his entire grocery order of what looked like a week of shopping. They also cook to order if you call ahead and need a batch of Tamales or some Carnitas cooked up for a Taco party. Their Carnitas is a close runner to the best I've had with the exception of La Tarasca in Centrailia. read more

Sketch location, awesome everything else. This is located on the side of Aurora by Greenlake - parking is street so can be challenging but for the most part isn't. I came here looking for ingredients to make Chicken Mole. The nice woman at the counter helped me buy pre-made Mole imported from Mexico. It was easy and she was very helpful with directions on how to prepare since I don't speak Spanish. It's a very small space but they seem to pack a lot of content into their shop. The back has some ready made foods (I think) and some homemade tortillas. Way better than going to QFC and touring the "Ethnic foods" aisle. read more

Oh man as soon as I stepped into this store I was impressed! It was clean and the clerk was very helpful and informative - He told us that they have carnitas on the weekends! Even was telling us about the spicy candy and which ones he preferred over the other brand! My bro jut moved up here from Cali and was asking me if I knew of a store, I had never been inside, but drove by this spot a few times since I have lived in the area and go to GreenLake quite a bit! This was one of the best Mercado's I've been in since L.A.! That says a lot because they are everywhere! read more

Their weekend food is simply amazing. Whether you choose a gordita, barbacoa tacos, carnitas tacos, or lamb stew ("consomé de barbacoa"), you can't go wrong. Their salsas are very spicy, but outstanding. And having nopalitos (diced cactus leaves) to add to your taco is the proverbial cherry on top. I have taken a few other Mexico-City-born fellows, and we all agree they would be a fairly good place in Mexico City. I have yet to try some of their weekday food specials. I'm not a huge review guy, but I do sit down and take the time when someone or someplace has gone out of their way to make an experience great and I literally just sat down at my computer as soon as I got home to write this. First off, my daughter and I walked in there (masks on during COVID times) and we were greeted with somebody behind the counter taking a Mendoza's branded mask out of plastic packaging and handing it to us. He saw that we already had a mask, but gave us a free one anyhow and we're happy to represent their brand around town! They had everything I was looking for to make Birria tacos where I was substituting beef for goat and serving with a side of consomme. And then when I told him what I was making, he told me to make them and then come back and try them there at the mercado when they make them every Saturday! So he was encouraging me to go ahead and make them myself with the ingredients from the mercado but to come back and try them and compare notes on another Saturday when their cafe makes them with true lamb and goat. The kindness and unassuming "above and beyond" made me want to go home immediately and write a positive review. If I can convince even just a single shopper to go there either for pantry/produce/meat items or to go get a prepared meal, I'll feel like I've at least given back something for the kindness they've shown us. Had my first visit today and will definitely be back! This is a very small Mexican store, hole-in-the-wall, with a handful of bar stools in the back. The prepared food is behind a hot food deli counter. There is no menu. what you see is what they have. They can sell you carnitas by the pound, or make you some carnita tacos. Or maybe de barbacoa. I came for the Chile Relleno. They looked very good. Large and fluffy and come with rice and beans. I can't resist gorditas, so had to add one as well. The gorditas are of pressed chicharrón and the chile relleno stuffed with cheese. As soon as the lady handed me my plate, I was hooked. It was served in a clay plate. This looks like Mexico! Green and red salsa are available in a couple of molcajetes. After sitting on a bar stool, I had my first bite. This tastes like Mexico too! Clearly, by its flavor, this is great cheese they use in the chile relleno. The salsas are awesome! Corn tortillas are large, fluffy and fresh. The gordita is also good. Not with tomato and crema, like I've found in other places, but the way I have them in Mexico. They have a sign for their carnitas package. A pound of carnitas, a pound of nopalitos, salsa and tortillas for $20. It's one heck of a deal, though I think my daughter can eat a pound of carnitas by herself. I will definitely return, though it might for at least 2lbs of carnitas. Like I said, the place is small, so, if eating-in, you must be comfortable eating in a small place in the back of a Mexican store. You will most likely eat on a barstool with narrow counter placed against the wall. Be prepared for a short conversation, as there is no menu. What does it come with? How is it prepared? Can I get it with this, or that? This is easy, as the staff (owners?) are very friendly and welcoming. I'm Mexican, I can eat here every day. It would be like eating at my aunt's; rice and beans con chile AND fresh tortillas. Staple of my life. 4 out of 5 only because of the limited menu and small eating area. read more

Now we know where to go when we need Mexican spices, Jarritos soda, or a carnitas party pack for our next games night or movie at home with friends night. Really enjoyed the chicharron. I rank this below average for both food to eat there or take out and grocery selection. Both the tamales and lamb stew were served lukewarm, and definitively not meeting the excellent health department rating on the door. So so selection of produce and nothing that interesting or unusual in the grocery section. We love this place! We have visited a couple times to get salsa (and then we always end up getting a few more items too...), and it is the best salsa we have ever tasted. The chipotle salsa is especially unique and delicious. Then most recently we got their guava agua fresca, which was also amazing. The man behind the counter is also super nice and helpful!!
