TL;DR Decent for Greenville, I guess. I was hopeful when I pulled this place up and saw the four-star listing. I love trying noodle houses I have never been to before. Didn't live up to the hype. That's not to say it was bad. It was okay. The miso ramen I ordered had plenty of flavor but not that deep, layered, intricate taste. The noodles were fine, and the broth went well with it. My real complaint is the stuff in the soup. The pork was not tender and falling apart. The egg wasn't soft. And that's about it. No other stuff in there. There aren't many options for noodles in Greenville, so I suppose if I lived there, I would probably drop by again. The prices are the most reasonable I've seen for ramen, as well. Love the service and unique food here. There's not many places you can get ramen bowls. Workers are so helpful and show a lot of respect in how they present your meal. It's that good it made this a 5 star experience! I ordered the #3, a pork based ramen bowl, based on asking which was the most popular. It was simple, hot, and cooked well. I will probably order the spicy version next time for more complex flavor. Ranges $7-8. There was several other ramen bowl options with chicken or miso or veggies. The bowls are big! I took some home for a snack later. The bowl comes with ramen, broth, protein, egg, veggies, and the cute pink swirly thing. There were other appetizers available on the menu like edamame and gyoza. I picked up 2 desserts, a green tea swirl cake which was not very sweet but so fluffy and a slight matcha flavor. I also enjoyed the red bean stuffed rice pastry, each about $1.50. I really enjoy Menkoi's ramen. However, the only good ramen that they serve, in my opinion , is the tonkotsu ramen. Or the spicy tonkotsu ramen. The spicy one is actually the one I always order and the one I took photos of. I have had a better tonkotsu ramen (Jinya Ramen's is def a lot better) but its still really good. The broth is super creamy and savory. Also the pork is super tender and fatty and I love that. Oh yeah and their ramen eggs are the best I have ever had. I have strayed away from tonkotsu ramen and tried both their miso and chicken ramen and .... they just aren't good. They just lack in flavor and taste watered down. I have tried both of them on mote than one occasion and still, they just aren't that good. So ever since then, I just stick with the tonkotsu or the spicy tonkotsu. It's so good. When I'm not eating ramen there I order the katsu curry or one or two of their onigiri. They are literally the only place to buy onigiri in Greenville. That's a little upsetting but at least you can purchase some here. I'm just glad that there is a ramen bar here, tbh. But yeah, I really like Menkoi. We accidentally stopped here for getting a dinner after ski from sugar mountain! We found a gem place that we never expected. We ordered chicken ramen and miso and spicy ramen. I gobbled the food right away since it was so good. If we leave here, we would have probably come here as often as we can. The broth for the soups were really clean and not as greasy which we found in most of the Japanese ramen store. Also, they had a spinach as a vegetables which i found it really nice flavor with the broth. So overall, we highly recommend this place! Our visit was surprisingly similar to the classic Seinfeld episode. I can't speak to the quality of the food because my family was treated so forcefully and rudely during the ordering process that we felt the staff did not want us to eat there. So we kindly left and took our business elsewhere. This was our first visit so my family and I were reading up on the menu so we could get something we know we liked. After about two minutes of looking at the menu (with no other customers in line), the lady working the cash registered said "excuse me please order". I told her, "Sorry" and that "we're almost ready, but we're having some trouble finding something my wife would be able to eat since she has Celiac and cannot have wheat noodles". Super awkward moment. Nobody has ever made me feel uncomfortable for looking at a menu like that. A minute later we ordered. The portions looked very large, so we decided to split two entrees between my wife and two kids. I ordered the two entrees and said that was all we wanted, and she just looked at me like I was a moron for ordering two meals. I said that we were going to split the two entrees, and she insinuated that we needed to order more and that we were imposing on them in some way by only spending $20. It was just so strange. At that point we realized that for some reason we were not welcome here and told her thanks but we changed our mind and left. Note to the owner: please train your staff to treat your customers respectfully and not meddle with telling them what they should or should not order. If someone with kids wants to split a menu option that is large, it's not kind to make them feel bad about that decision. The food seems great, but I have zero desire to go here again. A solid four stars for ramen that hit the spot. I work for a large Japanese company that rhymes with "Bonda", and our Japanese staff often brag about a place that has ramen that tastes very similar to what they have at home. Well, after hearing about this place many times, we decided to finally give Menkoi a try. Upon searching for the place, we just selected the first one that came up in the search, and it was this location. Little did I know that there are actually two different locations, and both are great, but the locations are geographically completely different. This location is in a strip mall, not far from the highway, whilst the other location is in a hip, upscale, modern area with poor parking choices. Now that I've helped educate you on geography, let's get onto the food. This place is not your $0.13 packet of Maruchan "ramen" noodles, so get that thought right out of your head. This place gives you a ton of noodles, in a tasty broth, with meats of your choosing. I chose "tonkatsu" which translates into "pork cutlet". They have a few different variations of tonkatsu, so be prepared to choose one that suits your tastes. You can always spice up later, but the base broths are slightly different. Tasty is an understatement. My dinner date this night was a co-worker that had been there previously, so we did shrimp dumpling thingies, which were really good as well as edamame. The edamame was slightly cold by the time it came to our table, so that is why I can't give five stars. Overall the appetizers were tasty, as they should be. At the time, this location was very strict with their COVID guidelines, so I applaud them for choosing to do so, because after all, it's their right. The downside of this choice was that seating was scarce. Hopefully, by the time you read this, The Virus has decided to mutate itself to death, which means we should be able to come back and eat with friends again. read more

Don't ask for an extra egg. We have been Coming to this location for years and we have always had a good experience. We order ramen of some sort and always ask for an extra egg. Always an extra egg. Until this most recent visit, we have never had a problem. The young man behind the counter took our order- 3 ramen with 1 extra egg- Which was reflected on our receipt. When we got our order, there was no extra egg, so I stood up to get in line to inform them POLITELY of the issue. Before I got into line, the gentleman at the counter asked if he could help me, and I said he forgot our extra egg. He then proceeds to tell me that it wasn't included because we didn't ask for it properly by saying we needed a "whole egg" instead of an extra. I told him we have never had to do this before and that we have only ever told them we needed an extra and not a "whole" egg. This went on for so long that another patron stepped in to help the employee understand, at which time he said "I don't make the rules." After a minute of feeling embarrassed, the employee went into the back to get our EXTRA egg. I was very polite, said "thank you" and "sorry for the trouble". He then proceeded to go into the back and start talking trash about me and how he got "ganged up on by three customers". The rest of the kitchen staff felt it necessary to come out and take a good look at us. After which, the young fellow went back into the kitchen and proclaimed that the more he thought about it the more angry he got, followed by some knuckle-cracking and hand-punching. I just wanted an extra egg, like we have ordered over and again for years with no issue. I'f there was a problem with the way we ordered, maybe he could've asked us to elaborate at the register before the whole egg debacle AND before we preemptively tipped. We were looking for somewhere to grab a quick, late night dinner and Menkoi was nearby, open and more appealing than fast food. It is located in a strip of businesses just off busy Woodruff Road. The way it is situated off the road it is easier to spot the building if you are traveling away from downtown so that you approach parking lot facing front of stores with signage, but it's not hard to locate from either direction and there's a turn lane for easier access. The restaurant interior is relatively small with tables along edges and a few counter/bar seating in the middle. They have printed menus you can read over if you prefer handheld, or the menu is displayed on large board behind counter for you to take a look at. The menu is simple yet detailed and tells you ingredients for each of the ramen bowl options so you're able to choose between which type of broth (chicken, pork, miso or soy sauce based soup) and toppings are best option for you. We ordered at the counter, fixed our drinks and chose a table to sit at. The employee who took our orders brought over napkins, chopsticks and a spoon before heading back into the kitchen to prepare our bowls himself. Food was served within minutes. We had one Chicken Ramen and a Miso Ramen. Both bowls were nearly identical except for the broth and meat, and both were uniquely flavorful but not overwhelmingly so. The chicken was not quite as cooked through as I would have preferred and each bowl only had half of a boiled egg. The broth was very hot but immediately drinkable whereas I was expecting it to come out with boiling heat where you have to wait a bit to prevent burning your tongue. While we were eating there was a steady flow of people coming in to pick up to-go orders but no other dine in customers. Overall the ramen was tasty and the serving size was generous but I wish there had been more options of things to add to bowl to make it cater to more unique taste preferences and less bland with basic options. read more

I sat down straight away but while I finished eating there were people waiting for a table. You order at the register and then sit and wait for your order to be brought to you. This was my first time at a ramen house so I went with what sounded the safest for someone unsure what I was getting, which was the chicken ramen. The bowls were brought to us in maybe 5 minutes, so we didn't wait long. It was a very large portion - I'm used to soup in cups or bowls, nothing this large. It tasted like a different take on chicken noodle soup, with spinach and two strips of chicken rather than chicken that's cut into bite-size pieces. I ate maybe half of it before I was essentially just bored of eating noodles and chicken broth. I had a ramen craving and found this place to close by so I thought to give it a try. First impression when walking in was it nice small and cozy. The menu was simple which makes it easy to order for newbies and quick fix, for me I think it's missing options to add/customize your ramen bowl. At first seeing how cheap the price for a bowl of ramen was, I didn't expect much of a bowl, but surprisingly good size with a nice amount of noodles. I ordered the Spicy Ramen, the broth was tasty and spicy level was good nothing crazy that'll make you sweat. The soft boiled egg was good would've liked to have both halves.
