this place is amazing! The portions that they give are generous and the quality and texture and taste is outstanding. I had the Korean spare ribs with rice and salad which it was incredibly satisfying, and I still had a bit left over for a snack later on in the day. Seating is mostly outside (I didn't check to see if there was inside seating since it was a nice day). The man behind the counter (I'm guessing the owner) was amazing! He made great small talk and answered my questions about how the meat was cut. Worth your time if you want real flava. The owners are adorable. They might be Margaret Cho's parents. This place has been under new management since March 2009. It was an American BBQ place before. Now, it is kind of a fusion between Korean and American BBQ. You can still have pull pork sandwich, American hamburger, etc. But for me, the real news is that this place now serves awesome Korean BBQ. They have bul-go-gi (BBQ Beef), spicy pork, chicken teriyaki that can be served as a sandwich or on rice. The price is very reasonable. I tried the spicy pork sandwich which was below $8. My wife had the bul-go-gi sandwich at about the same price. The "over rice" options cost about the same. The meat very very delicious and not overly marinate like many other Korea places. As a result, you can still taste the meat. The owner, Milton, said with pride that they do not use MSG and that's why you can still taste the meat. :) This is my new favorite for a quick lunch or dinner take out. Yummy. I was hoping for a bigger portion of bulgogi at the price I paid, but I was full enough when I left. I did enjoy the orange dressing, and the kimchee very much. Different than you would think for the exterior. It's defiantly Koren. They have this neat grill behind the small counter that all the meats are grilled on. Its about twice the size of my BBQ at home. Cooking it this way gives it that home made feel. The owners are awesome. So friendly and seem to care a lot about how you're enjoying your meal. I live on Willow Rd and eat at this restaurant at least twice a week. The owners are a married couple who work well together and make delicious food! My usual is Asian salad with chicken that comes with garlic bread. Try the spicy red sauce! I went yesterday for the first time. From outside, there is almost no way to tell that this is a combination American/Korean BBQ. I would have gone sooner if I knew it was Korean BBQ! I ordered the spicy pork plate and it was absolutely delicious! It came with kim-chi, salad, and rice. The pork was super tasty, succulent, and I really appreciated that no MSG was used. What I most liked about the place was the atmosphere and the interaction I had with the owners. I spoke to Milton and his wife (didn't get her name), and they are super friendly and genuine people. What a wonderful experience you'll get at this place. It's a family owned restaurant with a nice selection of different types of Korean and American BBQ. Being Asian, I went for the Korean BBQ and loved the chicken and short ribs. The kimchi is homemade. Nothing has MSG. The owners were really nice. I saw one customer come in who was looking to have typical American food. The customer expressed very passionately that she only wanted the classic AMERICAN bbq sauce (which this restaurant does serve). She left with an order of a full rack of ribs, a couple sides and i think something else for around 20-ish bucks. I've eaten here about ten times for lunch, and it's definitely one of the better places around for Korean BBQ - it's on my short list of lunch places overall in Menlo. 1. Food: very flavorful and a good amount of choices. I tend to get the box with kimchi (mmm), two kinds of meat (the spicy pork is good), salad and rice. There are definitely less healthy (and correspondingly more flavorful) dishes, like some of the sandwiches. 2. People: I'm pretty sure it's family run and the folks are always friendly, which is a big part my decision to eat in a given restaurant. 3. Location/Ambiance: a neighborhood restaurant. Low key, nothing fancy, comfortable. Can be a little cold inside if it's not nice out because the door stays open, but this is Menlo... I knocked off one star because the price for a dive is fairly high. The Korean BBQ plate is about $16. Don't get me wrong its really tasty and tender and I love the purple rice but I think I would go for the bibimbop as it is only $11 and is a good portion. Location: You would miss it if you were not paying attention. Find the big "BBQ" sign on the right of Willow coming from the 101. There is enough outdoor seating around 11:30 if you come later you may not be able to find a seat at all. Not much seating inside. Came here for lunch on Friday around 11:40am we had just beat the rush it gets kind of crowded for lunch I ordered the teriyaki chicken and got a substitute of potato salad I also tasted the garlic fries a friend had ordered and everything was very good I wasn't disappointed in anything the teriyaki box/plate cost me 10.00 and I had left over chicken that I ate later. I can't believe all the good reviews this place has gotten. It's a VERY average place with VERY average food. I ordered the beef plate that came with rice and potato salad. It was a really bland tasting plate. No flavor at all, nothing special. I could have easily made that home and saved myself an outrageous $12.00. My wife got the spicy pork and even though it was tender is was too spicy for me. The place looks like it hasn't been cleaned since it opened. Old and desperate for a remodel or at least a fresh coat of paint. The lady was a bit too chatty for me. I don't know why people think their customers want to hear about their life story. If you can find the place AND not pass it on Willow Road... Then you're in for a treat, because this place is something special. I like that this place doesn't try to be authentic Korean but experiments (see: bulgogi burger) or has no qualms about serving a salad with a more traditional bulgogi rice plate. Don't go here for the BBQ sauce or the pulled-pork sandwich. Or the salad. For $10 you can do much better. Lettuce was iceberg, and wilted with rust. Dressing was hard to discern what flavor it was. This I can probably forgive. What I can't forgive is the BBQ sandwich. BBQ pork is the sandwich I try everywhere I can find it on the menu. Unfortunately this one's not even a decent performer. The meat was mediocre, but included odd hunks that looked more like chicken than pork. The bun was classic Safeway generic. It was the sauce that was unforegiveable. First, no spice to it at all. I don't mean it was mild, I mean it had no spice. It tasted like a mixture of tomato paste and ketchup, and still retained that canned tomato paste grainy texture. I really wanted for this to be at least decent BBQ, but if pulled-pork is what you want, this is not the place. My dining mate had the Korean special and he scored it as average. The restaurant is a husband and wife team, and their daughter is often there as well, doing homework on her computer. Walking upon the place it was a little drab looking building has an old school dinner feel to it. The lady at the front didnt turn around and say anything to me for about 3 mins. I was like uh oh another one of these places lol. I ordered the Korean BBQ Beef sandwich w/aioli and it comes with a house salad. The dressing on the salad is a light citrus type of dressing. Maaaaaaan the food turned out to be stupid good and I recommend everyone to go and try out this diamond in the rough. I had high hopes for this place based on reviews but maybe because there are so few Korean restaurants locally, this is considered 'good'. To start, the guy I ordered from (owner?)was curt at best. No worries as long as the food is good. Unfortunately, that was not my experience with my bibim bap. Not classic style (had grilled eggplant, some kale and red cabbage and some other non-Korean style additions) AND it cost me $2.25 for Kim Chee. Not EXTRA Kim Chee, ANY Kim Chee! I hear there is a new Korean place opening in Redwood City soon. Will keep my fingers crossed. read more

I love this place . The couple that own this place are very warm and welcoming. My hubby and I have been going here lately and have been enjoying the traditional Korean plates. I've tried their sandwiches also and I must say, very tasty. My husband enjoys their bulgogi burgers as well. They serve their plates with "purple rice " and salad dressed with orange citrus vinegarette. Super delicious. I love the cole slaw as well. You must try their plates with a fried egg or two. I was indifferent at time of ordering to beef or bulgogi sandwich so I kept the bulgogi sandwich to try 3. unfortunately for $11+ it was very small, lukewarm, and stale. 4. Real review. Stopped in for lunch with a Co worker and ordered the short ribs plate rice, kimchi, hold the salad. My coworker ordered the same with everything. He got a soda and I got a Snapple. I must have been too hungry and chatty with the owner to notice but paid with my ATM. It got busy soon after we got there but not crowded. We sat in, and promptly got our food after a short wait. Now I normally take a pix but like I said was pretty hangry by this time so I dug in. Excellent and delicious. No complaints. But here's my gripe. Since I paid by Square I didn't see the grand total. Again my fault for not reading it closely. But for two plates of Short ribs, the bill topped $50bones! Swore I saw 16.95 on the menu. Hence if that's the going price then for value I give it 1 Star. I really wanted to like this place. I need Korean food from time to time and this is only a mile from home. James got spareribs and spicy chicken and I got the bibimbap. The amount of meat they give you for a $13 bibimbap was laughable. Taste and ingredients were all so so. James seemed to enjoy his beef, albeit a bit flavorless, and the spicy chicken was overpowered with spice - no bbq or chicken taste - just spice taste. First time back since they changed owners and very pleased. We had the pulled pork sandwich (excellent quality bun and tender meat), the american ribs (nicely seasoned, fall-off the bone texture, difficult to do with the larger St. Louis style ribs), the Korean spicy pork and chicken. The Korean food came in a bento box and the taste of the meat was very authentic (my wife is Korean so she would know). The salad greens very fresh and crisp and the potato salad (Asian style) was very nice. The rice with small beans was also nice. For this Korean/American bbq combo this place is excellent. read more

This is one of my favorite local restaurants. It's so nice to have this place in the neighborhood and it is owned by a married couple who also run the place and cook. The bibimbop is my favorite - I always get it with spicy chicken. Make sure you take a little container of the homemade spicy vinegar sauce. You probably won't need it for the bibimbop but it is great on scrambled eggs and lasts indefinitely in rhe frig:) read more
