I gave it a four star for authenticity of the "Korean" nature of their food, price was fair, quality was not top notch but not bad either, and staff was efficient and pleasant. I got the Teriyaki chicken meal and it was tasty. Sauce was good. Only negative was very limited seating and being a total clean freak as I am I don't consider it to be up to my standards. Was a little reluctant at first, but we decided to give it a shot. We like to support the Mom&Paps. We were pleasantly surprised. Hubby had the pulled pork sandwich. Simple and good flavor. The pork was tender and slathered in sauce. The bread was an interesting ciabbata-type bread that held up the sauce quite well. I had a hankering for spice, so had the spicy pork sandwich which was also good (and spicy). The house salad that accompanied my sandwich was extremely fresh and tossed with a very nice sesame vinaigrette (I only wish there was more of it) and my hubby opted to have the potato salad, also yummy. The owner was super nice and we sat outside on a beautiful day. Will definitely be back to try the ribs both american and korean style. read more

Over the years we have passed by this place with its various owners and styles of food. In the past couple of months we noticed it was a Korean BBQ place and kept making a mental note to stop there...we finally made it there today and are now big fans! We had the kids so we had to go with something "safe" that they would eat so we weren't very adventurous. We got a couple of orders of the short ribs...one with kim chee and one with the potato salad. The owner was very nice, welcoming us, and letting us know how it works there...order at the counter and he'll bring the food out. We got there late afternoon so we were the only ones seated inside and another few folks sitting outside. He was friendly with our kids and helped bring a high chair over and made us feel very comfortable. The decor isn't upscale...it's very casual...similar to an old mountain-like cafe. For us, that means kid friendly because there's nothing for them to break! ha ha. It is a cozy size, so I would suggest going during less busy times. Our food came out in bento boxes...rice, salad with an orange juice citrus dressing, short ribs, and the kim chee or potato salad. The rice was fluffy, steaming hot, with little lentils in it...the kids ate it up so thumbs up there! The salad took me by surprise and was pretty refreshing...as predicted, the kids weren't big fans but it wasn't for them to enjoy. The short ribs were tender, juicy, with a great marinade flavor...again the kids ate without talking/whining/complaining...need i say more? Hubz loved the kim chee and chatted it up with the owner who said his wife made it and it's so popular that she has to make double batches every time. The potato salad was pretty good too as it was a firm scoop, had a smooth overall texture, with bits of celery or something crunchy and some chunks of potato. We'll definitely be back to try some other items on the menu. Prices were reasonable and the portions were just right...it filled our tummies without putting us in a coma afterwards. The short rib is really good. Owned by a real mom and pop, the quality of the meats and ingredients are top-shelf. The owners have a very strong sense of palate and taste design, so you know how your food tastes is super intentional and meticulously decided upon. I've had both American style BBQ and Korean-style BBQ, and its awesome that you can get it in one spot. This is not some gi-normous chain restaurant, this is high quality ingredients put together by a mom and pop joint who really care about flavors and textures. Recommend you give them a shot, you won't be displeased. Super convenient for foot traffic lunchers. These sides are good too. Not throwaway filler like other fast joints. The sides are intentional. The interior has a classic westerny-diner kind of look to it. It looks like it would fit right in if you were in any norcal type north silicon valley wooded area and you stumbled upon some delicious eats. It's unpretentious, because the food is meant to shine. We've lived in this neighborhood for 6 months but never had stopped by to eat here. Recently we did and really liked it and we'll definitely return. The issue we had is with how the place looks from the outside. While we aren't afraid of greasy spoons or places that are a bit rough around the edges whatsoever, we weren't even sure the place was open! So don't let its looks deceive you. not bad but being a southerner its not the bbq like at home, the Korean lady running the show wasn't exactly the friendliest, when ask for a to-go box she acted as if it was a choir. Bugs! Bugs! BUGS! The Asian lady there is rude. She was rude to my child for standing near the utensils (mind you my child wasn't touching anything) and she kept yelling at my kid to not touch anything. Their food is okay, some items are small portioned for a high price. I ordered a burger, it didn't come with fries. When I ordered fries, it took 15 mins to come. By that time we didn't want the fries. Its unorganized and the lady was rude for nothing. The second time we came to this small crowded BBQ spot, we ordered the Korean chix, the rice they servered with it was nasty and had black seeds, one however was not a seed. It was a cockroach. I wouldn't return. That cockroach is a for sure never ever to return. read more

The wife works in Menlo Park. We live in the city. We have 1 car. Sometimes there is a situation where I need the car and I drop the wife off and pick her up after work, maybe once a month. When that does happen we stop by Menlo BBQ. Usually at 7 o'clock we are both hungry and not really feeling like sitting in traffic on the infamous US-101 while we starve. I had seen this place and driven by it a few times before I even ventured to try the food. From the outside you wouldn't expect much. You pull in to park and go inside and you still don't expect much. You order the food and the guy that took your order throws it on the grill. Things are looking up. I always have the Spicy BBQ Pork sandwich, which is awesome. The wife usually goes for the Korean BBQ fare which I have sampled as well and is spot on. To top everything off the food is very reasonably priced, we usually walk out of there without spending more than 25 bucks and we both walk out full and in a food coma. I also would like to point out that although they close at like 7 or 730 they are usually there until the last customer walks in. Last time we got there around 7 or so and people were still coming in and asking "are you open?" and they were still cooking food. I really like this place and the people that run it. read more

This is family run restaurant and they are VERY friendly, I see a LOT of repeat customers. It very popular at lunch and evening, order ahead. Menlo Park BBQ may be small, not HI TECH, but the food, staff and outdoor seating make this a GREAT FIND in Menlo Park. Reminds me of a LOT of of my favorite places in Hawaii (simple, great food, friendly staff). My 16 yr old daughters favorite is #8 burger with garlic fries, but there is a LOT more on the menu. read more

We went here on a quest for bbq while shopping at Stanford Mall. This quaint place felt a little like a small bbq place would in Texas. We weren't disappointed. We split a plate of pulled pork and hot links along with fries and coleslaw. The pulled pork was perfectly done and the hot links had a nice amount of spice. The fries were good and not greasy. Got a spicy pork bi bim bap with kimchi for lunch yesterday, and with ordering, it took about 30 minutes to get my food. So, it's not a quick lunch, but it's a good lunch! I'm biased since I sorta know the owners. I finally dropped by when I saw it on the way and decided to try it out. Its a small place, but plenty of seating. at 11:30 it had a decent amount of people already (good sign). I got the spicy pork and it was great! I've eaten here a number times, and as much as I hate to do it, I have to update my review. The prices have begun to inch higher, and the quality of the food seems to be slipping. I walked up starving after a tennis match at 8:15 PM. I stopped dead in the doorway when I saw "last call" for orders was at 7:30. The woman behind the counter simply smiled and said, "Don't worry. What would you like." After ordering the Spicy Pork, I was confused as I watched her place a large amount of meat on the grill. "Why are they cooking extra sandwiches for tomorrow?" I thought to myself. To my amazement and my starving stomach's delight, I watched as she placed every piece of meat on my sandwich. It was some of the best BBQ I've had. Not a big fan. Came here for lunch one day and ordered up the ribs and the bento plate of the spicy pork. Neither of these turned out okay. The ribs were too tough.... to the point where you knew you had to floss your teeth after eating. I ended up using the spicy sauce to give the ribs more flavor too because I felt it was lacking in taste. The spicy pork was dry but well seasoned. Interesting place, family-run restaurant. I ordered the Bibambap, while others in our party ordered the Teriyaki chicken and kalbi combo plates. Bibambap was alright, though I wish it was served sizzling hot with more meat, like it might be served in Korea or Northeast China (lots of N. Korean influence). The combo plates looked good. Came in for a quick bite after a doctor appointment. It was after the lunch rush so there were only a few guests there at the time. I ordered 2 BBQ Beef Short ribs and chicken for the two of us. I wanted share the chicken since no one ever serves up enough BBQ Short Ribs. Order came out pretty quick but was short one order of short ribs. The food. The BBQ Ribs were good as in not bad. Orange County is my compare and I guess no one can make them as well as they can in SOCAL. The Ginger chicken had too much sauce and the ginger was way too overpowering. If you are a big fan of heavy ginger sauces you will enjoy. Kimchi and rice with salad were better and enough to satisfy the lunch hunger.... all in all $28 for 2 drinks and 2 course price was okay for Palo Alto. This place is a great place if you're with a small sized group who can never decide where to go and what to eat. This place has Korean BBQ AND American BBQ. As a first time customer I went and tried a myriad of their Korean BBQ selection- needless to say, it was excellent. We spoke with the owners (who are super friendly) and found out that the kimchi, radish and slaw sides were all homemade. I tried the short ribs, bulgolgi, spicy pork and chicken. All winners! Garlic fries- a definite must have. Seating might get a little tight but if you can grab some tables outside, a larger group is do-able. read more

I'm pretty excited every time we get to eat here. Great, friendly service (I love the couple that runs the place, they are sharp witted and enthusiastic), tasty fresh food, and a pleasant outdoor seating area. I especially like the simple orange juice salad dressing, the lentil rice, and the spicy pork. I also like that the Kimchi is fresh tasting, not oily or too salty. It's about as healthy as bulgogi can get, really, and doesn't sacrifice taste.
