Was NOT a full and busy restaurant. Almost walked out after waiting for ~25 mins for the tab with a verbal acknowledgement. It's half a large avocado topped with a generous scoop of raw fish cubes. I'm docking one star because of inconsistencies. During my second visit, my avocado boat looked vastly different from the first time I ordered: it did not have scallions or shreds of cucumber. However, I would still return. This was the first Asian food spot that my boyfriend and I tried... It kind of set the tone of how good Asian food is in Denver. The Menya ramen special didn't taste like tonkotsu... but a taste of shoyu and tonkatsu and... something else? I couldn't quite put my finger on the soup. It wasn't terrible - but it wasn't good either. The broth was pretty thinned out for it being tonkotsu. My guess is too much dashi? Or maybe too much water? Either way - I was missing the richness that tonkotsu soup usually has. The noodles were great though. I thought spinach was really weird in my ramen... My boyfriend ordered the poke bowl. I was a bit skeptical because they put bell peppers in the bowl (that's really not a common thing to do) but we decided to give it a try since everything on Yelp was saying it was good. I tasted the fish - the fish was definitely nowhere near good quality. There were hardly any fat lines running through the slices, the color of the salmon seemed dull, and it was still a little too fishy for my taste. The girls were very nice and we had great service. Let's take it back to this afternoon. I landed in Denver, it's 37 degrees, my senses are craving one dish and one dish only; RAMEN. The number one ramen joint to pop up via Yelp was Menya Noodle Bar. "Driver, take me straight to the noods!" No hotel stop, no bathroom break, no nothing. I showed up at Menya with my suitcase and backpack. The place was filled to the brim, but the hostess found me a seat at the bar within 90 seconds. Yelp Tip* 20% off your bill when you check-in on Yelp for the first time! The bustling atmosphere, the quick service, and the straight-to-the-point menu made my experience incredibly enjoyable. I knew exactly what I wanted, even though EVERYTHING sounded delicious. Kimchi, Tako Yaki, and Spicy Chicken Ramen. Kimchi - Vinegary, tart, and spicy. A very traditional take on fermented cabbage, but if you're not a fan of puckery foods maybe hold off on this one. Tako Yaki - One of the best I've ever had. Fantastic texture, piping hot octopus chunks on the inside, creamy and saucy goodness that cannot be missed. Spicy Chicken Ramen - Have you tried ramen with spicy chicken and spinach? Probably not, but you should! Boy, the chicken had SO much flavor, the noodles were tender, and the half egg was cooked perfectly. The only downer for me was the broth itself. It just didn't live up to the other items in the dish, which were just so stellar they outshined the funky broth notes. Menya Noodle Bar appears to be a well oiled machine that knows their way around a kitchen. If you're dining in a large party I'd recommend calling ahead to see if they can accommodate you. If you're dining alone like I did, you should be able to squeeze in at the bar no problem! read more

Menya is cool! Located on the 16th Street Mall between Curtis and Champa, this Asian fusion eatery basically offers three categories of foods: small plates, noodle dishes, and bowls. The former takes up a large section of the menu, as every item has an accompanying photograph. Interested in trying a few different things, my girlfriend and I decided to order from these shareable offerings. First to arrive, the salmon avocado boat. This combination of raw salmon, mango, green onions, and cucumber is served inside a whole half avocado, minus the pit. It's up to the eater to scoop up each bite, a task some might find strenuous, but makes sense to me. In any case, very tasty and fresh. The fried squid was next. These lil fellas are full squidlets, deep fried, and still oily. In fact, a little too oily for me. Rubbery also, but that's to be expected, right? I found the flavor delightful nonetheless, though my partner was less impressed by this dish. And then came the karaage chicken. This one did not go over great. The chicken was quite soft, unlike other karaage chicken I've had in the past. I was expecting it to be much firmer, chewier, perhaps deep-fried for longer. I don't know if this restaurant likes it that way or if my table just got a soft batch, but either way, the texture thing turned me off from these adult chicken nuggets. I wanted to like this place more. The ramen was just okay as the broth lacked flavor and the chicken did not taste fresh. The udon noodles, however were nice and chewy. I don't know what it is about ramen but it does something to my soul. I don't eat another type of food so quickly and still have room for more, than I do with ramen. We would frequent then quite often but had not gone there for about a year. OMG has the quality of food degraded. We picked up three bowls and mine was the Special. Yeah it was special alright! We take it home and the avocado on top has a black spot the size is a quarter. Why serve something that is obviously bad/rotten? I would think a restaurant's philosophy is not to serve something you wouldn't eat yourself. So if course after removing the avocado the next bites were into the raw fish. However, it WAS tasty once you realized the texture isn't like your average crab cake. The ramen was cool, but as a ramen-hunter, I've had better. This is the first place we tried when we arrived. The best thing about this place was our waitress who was super friendly & sweet even when they were seriously understaffed. The food is super bland though. I ordered the shoyu ramen with chashu added - omg beyond bland. And the shredded chicken that originally comes with the dish, dry as the Sahara desert good Lord. There wasn't an ounce of flavor in that thing. My fiancé ordered the kimchi fried rice which was a little better but still nothing special and for an appetizer we ordered shrimp Katsu which tasted like a regular fried shrimp which was fine. I have eaten here a couple of times in the last few weeks. The first time I took the Udon to go. The second time I dined in and had the curry. There are several styles of Japanese and Asian meals on the menu. Both meals were filling and flavorful. The food came out so quick that I was skeptical about its freshness or that maybe it was just microwaved. The kitchen is wide open to the dining area, so that was quickly put to bed. Based on the reviews of this place from the minute we walked in we knew that we were going to like this place. We ordered several small plates including the teriyaki chicken wings, marinated fried chicken, and the bulgogi wraps. All the small plates killed it, and we would order them again for sure. We shared the spicy chicken ramen and at first it took a little bit to get used to, it has a very strong miso taste. After a couple sips of broth we were both sold. Wish we could come here again to try more food! Maybe next time we're in Denver!! We found it on thrillist and checked it out on yelp and are so glad that we did!!! After debating many healthy but hearty places to eat around the area, decided to try this Asian fusion spot and was pleasantly surprised by the food options, drink options (even really cool fresh teas), and their alcohol options! That downgraded my experience considerably. Food - Ordered the Chashu Ramen so I could get the most bang for my buck. At first, the prices seem very comparable to other ramen places I've been, but when I was served the portion size was about half of what you would get at most ramen places. In addition to the small portion, as I dig in, I realize that the noodles are exactly like the ones you would get from an instant Ramen noodle pack... This I have never seen at any ramen restaurant. Service - The service was good, I guess... I was served quickly, order taken and accurate, and was courteous to me except for one thing... As I'm eating and using my phone, I noticed the waiter kept glancing over to look at my phone too, which I find kind of rude, but I'm using my phone in public so... it was just a little annoying is all. Outside of that, he did his job, nothing more, nothing less. All in all, the experience was just okay, and could've definitely been better. Great ramen place in Denver. We had a 7-hour layover in Denver on the way home from Cancun and just wanted to explore downtown a bit. There were a lot of good food choices in the area, but somehow we were craving ramen and according to Yelp, this was the place to go...so we went for it. The ramen itself was delicious. The broth was so robust and flavorful which already a huge plus for me. One thing that irks me is when ramen places give half of an egg - why? I love egg, so when that's the case, I end up ordering another 'half' egg, but I believe all ramen houses should serve full eggs! We have been to several times and it has been a great experience. However, this time not so much. We ordered two bowls. One came out perfect and was delicious. We would highly recommend adding ramen noodles as the base to your poke bowl if you do visit here. The texture profile of the noodles alongside the fish and toppings is *chefs kiss*. The other was ordered with half rice, half salad, and the yuzu miso sauce. There were maybe two sprigs of lettuce, and a neon yellow sauce that tasted like Willy Wonka's version of mango. Since there is a mango sauce on the menu, I assumed that was what had been put on instead by accident. No biggie, it happens. I voiced this to the person at the cash register who flatly told me I was wrong and it was the right sauce. I said it tasted a lot like mango and that I had ordered the yuzu miso...and was once again told I was wrong. I said it was very, very sweet. She said that's just what the dressing was.
