Wow wow wow!! Mercado 925 is now my favorite Mexican spot in Berkeley. Started with the ceviche Sonora and it was spot on fresh and delicious-- came with both fish and shrimp with a side of tortilla chips. Then got the carnitas tacos and the pepain mole tacos with chicken. Omgggg sooo good! Then ended with the chocolate pot de creme with walnuts. It was sooo good, it reminded me of petit pot. I've had my eye on them since they opened as they have been consistently getting great reviews and the space is bright. I ended up on a taco Tuesday and ordered up a few tacos and a salad. The Al pastor taco may be one of the best tacos in Berkeley. It was juicy with fresh chunks of pineapple, served in that double tortilla ; it was the damn closest thing to perfection I've had in taco form in Berkeley. The fish taco was also a delicious taco specimen. The salad was tasty and extremely fresh and large (no bagged salad here), but simple. I added a side of chicken and they legit brought a side plate of a heaping portion of chicken. The space is great for groups - it's large. During the weekday it's counter service but evening is table service. There's a long bar, so a great spot to post up as well. This spot is delicious, reasonably priced and has a lot of potential. I enjoyed the chicken enchiladas verde, though I thought the chicken enchiladas were just a tad dry but the rice and refried beans were a nice complement. The cocktails were just the right amount of sweetness and kick of flavor, especially liked the cactus fruit cocktail. Friendly service from being greeted , seated and throughout dining time. First time here. Seated immediately, no wait for a Friday night. The interiors are very nicely designed. Food is prepared and presented nicely. I had the pulled pork tacos. Pork was very juicy and salsa was spicy! The ordered of tacos came with 3 tacos, two were plenty as I had to pack the 3rd one to bring home. We also ordered a ceviche. Our server asked if we wanted medium or spicy, we asked for spicy but it wasn't that spicy. Our servicer was awesome, he answered all of our questions and was super friendly. I like the inside of this restaurant a lot, if you can sit in the back section that would be my recommendation. Mercado 925 was the destination of choice to celebrate my best friend's birthday. Mexican food is her favorite cuisine, so she chose this spot based on reviews and proximity to where we grew up together. Tasty food here, no doubt about it. Upon entering the restaurant, it gave off a modern, minimalistic, and casual vibe with the air flowing in, dark walls, and neighborhood charm. We were confused about the ordering process, we assumed we ordered at the counter but to our surprise, we were seated instead. There's a handful of tables plus outdoor dining and space at their bar. Service was very short staffed and with that, things took quite a long time to either come out or be helped. They also got my friend's order wrong so, keep that in mind. Me and my best friend loved tacos as kids and still do to this day! We ordered the Tacos del Mercado. I chose Al Pastor, Carnitas, and Pollo Asado al Horno as my three proteins. The al pastor was bite-sized pieces, not too sweet, and spicy. The carnitas was tender and juicy but I wish it was crispy! The pollo was tasty and spicy. Everything was seasoned nicely and the protein was overflowing. This is a nice spot but not on the cheaper end for tacos. For those living in the area, Mercado 925 is a good spot to dine at with flavorful tacos. I wouldn't mind coming back and am glad we got to celebrate my best friend's special day here! So I'm torn about this neighborhood joint. I do like the oaxaca style asada burrito with spicy salsa, BUT I walked in a for a burrito and it took 30 mins to get to me. I understand from working in food service that it happens when you are busy, but I was checked in twice and it still taking 30 mins for a single burrito, makes it hard to give it a higher review. Yes, ordering in advance a little would be a better idea (as I saw 5 people get their takeout before me, not sure if they all orderedbefore me). My family loved this place on our first visit and have only grown to adore it more on subsequent trips, including a grown-ups only double date! The staff is kind and swift and everything I've eaten has been something I'd order again in a heartbeat. Do not miss the platanos, fish tacos, Mexicali tacos (I've enjoyed all the proteins I've tried: al pastor, carne asada, picadillo), or the barbacoa en jugo. These are exceptional stand-outs on a menu where you can't go wrong. I haven't been for brunch yet but I hope to remedy that soon. The only knock on Mercado 925 is the acoustics. It's LOUD in this place with the concrete floor, high ceilings, metal chairs. Some sound dampening would go a long way. That aside, I recommend this place for nearly any occasion from date to family meal with kids to group dinner. It's my favorite sit down Mexican restaurant in the East Bay. read more

Asked for salt, and luckily they gave plenty of limes. Birria quesadilla was good. But in sharing, one person got the middle which had most of the meat, and we were left with the ends, mostly tortilla. But the salsa for it was good! Chips I dug, freshly fried. Fish tacos though were a bit off the mark to all 3 of us. Looked great! But, so much topping of slaw and salsa that any crisp of the Baja fried fish was gone. In fact, two of us grabbed tacos out of a puddle on the plate, and I watched as my friend boy and had liquid come out of the end back onto his plate. Not sure if overdressed? Fluke plating issue? Great place - lovely large open space, nice lighting. I asked our server for a tequila suggestion and the one he brought was fantastic - very smooth and a nice pour. Food was delicious - I got the chicken enchiladas and the verde sauce was on point, the dish had a nice heat to it, was flavorful, quality chicken pieces (no bad bits), and the portion was enormous. Also got their version of a caesar salad and the little gem lettuce leaves were nicely qc'd, fresh, tasty and crunchy (and huge). Only complaint was I'd asked for the vinaigrette to be subbed for the ceasar dressing and it arrived with no dressing. Despite being incredibly busy, our server was excellent. I'll be back for sure. My only other complaint was that the high ceiling and large full space made the noise level super loud and difficult to hear my dining companion. But, I can't fault them for being good enough to be that busy on a Sunday night. read more

We ordered guacamole and that was fresh as well, not from a bag. I had the Mole plate and was surprised by this giant serving of food. The mole had very good flavor and the tortillas were pretty good too. We had cafe con leche and flan for dessert and I have to say the flan was one of the best I have tasted. Truly wasn't expecting much out of this place despite the good reviews because I'm from San Diego. I've been trying to find a solid taco spot in Berkeley for too long, and Mercado is it. Come for their $3.50 Taco Tuesday deal! We ordered for pickup, and when we walked in we were impressed by the restaurant's decor and ambiance. When we asked if we could dine-in, the staff offered us water and welcomed us to sit anywhere we wanted. We tried every single taco on the menu. Our favorites by far were the pollo, picadillo, and al pastor. We were pleasantly surprised by the picadillo, which is stewed ground beef in a flavorful tomato-based sauce. All of the tacos came with a nice portion of meat, onions, cilantro, and a charred smoky salsa. The corn tortillas were fresh and warm, but the tacos themselves needed maybe a touch more salt. Go here!!! Today!!! We are visiting Berkeley and love good "hidden gem" Mexican places and Mercado 925 hit it outta the park! From the fresh made agua Fresca to the housemade guacamole (to die for- it's so insanely good!), verde enchiladas (we had chicken) are an enormous dish that hits it on every level... I had the squash blossom quesadilla special- so cheesy and the sauce that comes with it is the perfect compliment! Honestly, we will be back every trip we make to Berkeley! Plus, the restaurant is beautiful and the service is stellar. 10/10 read more
