This is a fantastic spot for lunch. It was a bit hard to find, but worth it. Between two adults and three kids we had tacos, sopes, stuffed sandwiches (cemitas) and pork chop wit rice and beans. A fantastic value for delicious, authentic Mexican food. No ambience to speak of since you're basically eating in a deli (although takeout is an option) but who cares when the food is this good! The guacamole is the best I've ever had, and for entrees my husband and I each get the appetizer sampler platter, which comes with 2 mini beef tacos, 2 mini chicken quesadillas, 2 cheese flautas, and 2 chicken wings on top of a salad with avocado and tomato slices and crema drizzled over it all (plus red and green verde sauces in bottles at the table)--a great way to get a lot of different tastes for only $12. Service is very friendly and the homemade chorizo is terrific to bring home as well. The Mercado is tucked away in the Rite Aid strip mall, but it's a real find! read more

This place is a deli / bodega that also makes really good Mexican food. They have 4 or 5 tables, but you're sitting in a bodega--don't expect a restaurant vibe. It's a nice clean bodega, with plenty of room, and everyone's friendly... but it's a bodega. If you order to eat in, you get your food on plates instead of take-out containers. With that out of the way: This is the best Mexican in northern westchester. Not the best Mexican EVER, but really, really good, satisfying, legit Mexican. Their prices went up recently (fall 16?) but are still pretty reasonable. An order of (3) tacos al pastor w/ rice and beans is a standard, and their soups are also great. If you want a hip expensive take on Mexican, go to Taco Dive Bar. If you want middle aged texmex, try Ruben's. Excellent authentic Mexican food!! I work in the city in a restaurant and the employees are all from Mexico and I have eaten their family meals so luckily I can understand what real Mexican cooking is. And this place is legit. Have had their burrito, tacos, quesadillas, sopes, grilled chicken cemita (overstuffed messy sandwich which is enough for 2 and is the most amazing sandwich full of chipotle, avocado, cheese and more) and chilaquiles (tortilla chips drenched in tasty red chile sauce with onions and melted cheese). All excellent. Also the aqua frescas are good have had tamarindo and Jamaica (hibiscus). For me they are sweetened too much but they are great and refreshing nonetheless. Also we get the pico de gallo to go to snack on with tortilla chips also excellent. Ambience is none, a few tables and a tv in the middle of a bodega but we don't go for atmosphere we go for the excellent Mexican food. Also staff is friendly and speak English. Great find. read more

As I don't live anywhere near Peekskill, I have been trying to find a guac in the city (from Black Ant through Toloache to authentic taquerias in Harlem) that comes close to Mercado's but no luck so far. We just just moved to Peekskill and read the good reviews on Yelp. We love good Mexican food and this place doesn't disappoint! I ordered the Cubana Torta. Huge, with charred, succulent slightly spicy pork shoulder, ham, jalapeños and Oaxaca cheese. Perfection! My wife and son had carnitas burritos with again freshly grilled pork shoulder, beans redolent with smoky pork and savory rice, served with a pico de gallo and crema. Just awesome. Don't be discouraged by the location or outward appearance of this place. As a self-proclaimed foodie, my fiancé and I are always looking for a place that will '1-up' everyone else. Well I tell you, if you want authentic Hispanic food, this is the place to go. Although everything on their menu will make you come back for more, their burritos are seriously out of this world. Also, the prices are reasonable, and you get a lot of delicious food for your buck. On top of that, the owners are nice, courteous and friendly. I've been coming to The Aztec Deli since it first opened and it is one of my favorite go to spots for food. Great authentic Mexican food, my personal favorite is the steak burrito, next in line is the chorizo tacos and last but not least the chorizo torta. It's not necessarily a restaurant, but more of a deli so if you're looking to have a nice family outing I wouldn't suggest it. THE Best Mexican food you will find in or near Peekskill! Charming little place that packs a big punch in the flavor department! Food is always fresh and cooked perfectly.
