It was a busy Sunday brunch day. We were seated i waited about 35 min for mushrooms and scrambled eggs which were fluffy and cheesy. The potatoes were tasty but salty. The brioche dominated the plate and it was just too much. The brioche toast sounds like a good idea but it was too dry. Overall I would say it's not worth coming on their busy days. The staff was very friendly and apologetic when the soup order we made was changed and then unavailable. Based on the two times I've been here it's generally been a good experience. read more

Three words.....Steak breakfast tacos!!! They were amazing!!! The kids meals come with fruit which was OUTSTANDING! The waitress played with my son so I could drink my coffee the whole experience was the best breakfast ever! So happy! read more

This is the place I go for amazing breakfast tacos. The place is small and it fills up quickly. Try to get there early or you may have to wait. Staff is great and the place is always clean. Great coffee, try the single cup brew. They also serve lunch and dinner. Try it, you won't be disappointed. read more

Great experience, delicious food. The kitchen made a small mistake, I ordered well done eggs but the middle was runny, I mentioned it and it was corrected promptly and everyone was really nice! Mary the manager provides excellent customer service, mistakes happen and how it was handled makes all the difference. We will definitely be back and recommend on here and to friends. read more

Rarely will I go to a restaurant for breakfast and find myself returning next day. This is the exception. This is an excellent restaurant with very tasty food. From the service to the coffee to the food this is a must stop if you find yourself in Fredericksburg. I will return if and when I find myself in the area. read more

I only went when it had first opened. It's very trendy and dated. Definitely a 'hipster' locale. The ingredients they used in their dishes were top notch, however they didn't seem to have a chef who knew how to utilize them to build a proper meal. I'm sure it's changed but I won't be going back. Price was okay, but better alternatives exist for less. read more

Called three hours ahead to see if they had patio seating. When I got there, there was a table with three chairs but we are four people and they said they can't give us another chair even though all the other tables had four chairs and four people sitting there. We left for thirty minutes to wait for another table to clear, came back and saw an empty table with seats but the same girl told us sorry there's a waiting list. I called three hours ago and came thirty minutes ago but they want to give it to other people. And she kept saying the tables weren't cleaned and we couldn't sit there. I didn't know it takes 30 minutes to clean a table. This is why I never come to downtown Fredericksburg because if you're not whiiite people don't respect you or care about serving you. Thank you for proving me right. I was going to order carry out but I'd rather not give even $1 to a place like this. Also I drove 40 minutes to come here just to be treated like this. Their excuse is that the owners aren't "white" so they don't discriminate, last time I checked the world is not only filled with black and white people.. I'm not going to be shy to speak up when I feel discriminated against. Just because I am not black doesn't mean I can't feel discrimination by your untrained white servers. And yes, it's really sad that this area of Virginia constantly makes people feel discriminated. Haven't you ever noticed that there's only ever been an abundance of white people in Fredericksburg? Every race has good and bad, I unfortunately was faced with the bad over here. On top of that, instead of apologizing for your bad treatment you and I quote) said "maybe you're the problem." Ouch. I brought my mother here today for an early mothers day brunch. The ambiance is very quaint and friendly, a great mix of natural light and shade. We got the pour over coffee and I have to say it's the most amazing coffee I've ever had. We talked about it for hours after brunch. My mother had the shaved steak sandwich on home made bread which was delightfully savory and sweet. It came with a crunch and smooth slaw. I had the basil omelette and toast. The omelette was perfectly cooked and moist. The strawberry jam was so delicious. It's made right in their kitchen. Im so glad we decided to stop here. Great food. However, if you go on a weekend morning, prepare to be extremely rushed. Our server handed us the check before I was halfway through eating my entree on two separate occasions. We went for lunch on a Monday. The Mercantile was already pretty busy before noon! We started with the pimento cornbread. The main course was delicious! We loved the tacos. They were far and away the best! Great flavor in the salsa, radishes and especially the caramelized onions. The turkey sandwich was quite large but a little dry. Overall, it was good. Pleasant brunch this morning at Mercantile. This is my second visit; however, the first visit was just after opening and I felt the menu needed to evolve so I came back a year or so later (today) and all I can say is...Wow! Menu is better than I could have imagined. I felt like I was eating Joy's savory recipes once again. I will say that I now prefer Mercantile over Foode's brunch. Went here for brunch with the hubby, arrived around 1130 and only waited about 5 minutes, they were busy, but effective at cleaning tables and seating people :) The staff was attentive and really friendly. My husband & I ordered the pecan cinnamon roll to share, they are HUGE and we definitely were satisfied sharing. We both ordered the Deir Roasters pour over coffee, I got mine iced and it was AMAZING. Seriously, you have to get this coffee. Fesh, locally roasted, and soooo good! My husband tried their house blend and it was not very good. not compared to the Deir Roasters one, it tasted burnt lol. For brunch my husband ordered the pastrami sandwich [i can't remember the exact name] with chips, he said it was the best sandwich he's had, and he 100% is not a sandwich person lol. I ordered the breakfast tacos with home fries and a biscuit to share - the jam was bomb! Biscuit was good and flakey and buttery, tacos were yummy and fresh, and home fries were perfectly cooked. Friendly staff. The host/busboy was very attentive. We went around noon so we didn't have to wait long. The food was ok. I had the basil omelet and my husband had the 2 egg breakfast. The omelette was pretty good but it had too much goat cheese for my liking. My husband liked his eggs but our biscuits were overdone and needed something. I wanted to try their strawberry jam since the reviews were so good but they don't have it every day. Today they had marmalade which neither of us like. I had high hopes for this restaurant being that FoodE. is fantastic. I have to admit I was somewhat disappointed. While the atmosphere itself is very cool love the writing on the banquet seating. It was quite loud from just the talking of the patrons. I ordered the openface turkey sandwich while the bread was huge it certainly was an open face!! With the bread being so thick the sandwich itself was quite dry and it took so much to eat the bread you really didn't get any of the flavors of the sandwich. Love the atmosphere, the service, and the food. Oh, they also make a great bloody mary. We were driving from the DC area and Yelped best breakfast places in Fredericksburg. This place popped up, so we stopped in. I ordered the "Protein Breakfast" which included eggs, italian sausage, grilled veggies, toast, and yogurt. My wife ordered the "Bluebird" which is beef brisket over grits (they call it porridge - someone else posted a picture in Yelp). Both meals were awesome.
