    Brunch! Outdoor seating Jan 2021

Great brunch spot! Outdoor seating with heaters and seating is covered. Service was friendly and fast. I don't believe they take reservations but we didn't have trouble getting a table.

Foumd this bar by chance as everything is close in Christmas. Nice and cozy bar with great draft and reat customer service too.

Nice neighborhood spot. Stopped by Friday night with my girlfriend as we were looking for a spot to watch an nba playoff game after dinner. The restaurant bar was small / cozy and the staff was great. I had a slice of carrot cake had a beer and watched the Celtics lose, nice evening.

Solid choice for brunch. Nice service, maybe could be a little more attentive. Food was fine. My nachos were okay, but the chips were a little stale tasting. French toast was oddly dark. Drinks were tasty (pumpkin pie martini and snickertini) and I'm not usually one for sweet mixed drinks. Wasn't too crowded on a cold Saturday and sitting upstairs is very cozy. Definitely a place you won't regret trying.

Not quite what I'd expected. While looking for a place to eat in Chelsea before going to a show, we needed to find something close. Many places in the area but we saw that Merchants had a nice patio and the bar area was open at 6:30 p.m. on a Thursday evening. It was still happy hour so my wife and I had some drinks and ordered some bar food. We started getting worried when after 30 minutes, we still didn't see our food and knew we needed to get to our show. After asking the bar maid, she mentioned that they would bring the vegetable quesadillas first since the Buffalo wings weren't ready yet. Guess what? The wings were ready 15 minutes ago. Not sure what they were thinking. My wings were so dry and overcooked, I would have sent them back if I had extra time. They could market this as Buffalo wing jerky. Seriously only 4 of the 10 wings for $10.95 were almost uneatable. The others were pretty good. My wife loved her quesadilla. The three stars are for the quesadilla only. The wings and service were probably worth 2, but the quesadilla was worth 4.

It's easy to mistake Merchants NY Cafe for Merchants Bar (http://www.merchantsny.com/) - Similar names & sleek exteriors. Once inside the cafe, however, you'll find a much more casual environment. An open kitchen also means that you are enveloped by the smell of tasty foods. Appetizer: Caesar salad -- Lettuce was very chilled & more than adequately dressed. Main course: BBQ chicken sandwich - Bread was lightly toasted & limp. Filet of meat was thin. Comes with Cajun fries. Side: Fried polenta - Tasty. Would have preferred a tad less garnish & oil. Minus 1 star for chemical spray cleaning the table next to mine while I was eating. Hidden on a street less traveled (Don't ask why I was there), I wouldn't plan a trip to dine at this establishment, but if you're in the neighborhood & need food late at night - Kitchen closes at 10PM during the week - It's not a terrible option. Think of it as a high end (& accordingly higher priced) cafeteria. "In fact, the cafe management is even challenging residents in the building who want the ultimate laid-back experience to come in and dine in their pajamas. The first person to do so will receive dessert, on the house." http://www.lowermanhattan.info/news/business_spotlight_merchants_ny_47350.aspx Specialty martinis, specialty cocktails & dessert drinks under $10 all the time. All food under $20. Dine-in, take-out or delivery to the entire Financial District south of Chambers St. Seven days, noon to 10 pm. Seamlessweb.com friendly. Photos added.

This has been a great spot for years. When I doubt go to Merchants. I also go to the downstairs or sit outside. I've never had to wait and can be seated right away. The lounge is very cozy and intimate. There are couches, a fireplace and dim lighting. I usually come for drinks, lite bits and dessert. The drinks and food are really good. I always have to blow out my night with the brownie a la mode. Then I satisfied. I'll be coming here for many more years to come.

As we had our cocktails we discussed going somewhere else as the vibe was flat. But my husband convinced me to stay as it's already 8:30. We head upstairs to our table, only to be greeted by another less enthusiastic server. He never told us his name or offered up any menu highlights. I was excited to have bone marrow and escargot. Both failed epically. The bone marrow was inedible as it was like cold custard. Escargot had zero flavor and a real lack of garlic and good butter. Tasted more like vegetable oil than good butter. We shared the lobster pasta entree. Tasted more like Mexican goulash. No Italian flavors to be found in the sauce. Never once did the nameless waiter stop and inquire about our meal. Just all around a poor experience and a disappointing Friday night. There are far better places that appreciate your patronage. We will not be coming back. Not worth it.

The host came across as indifferent / borderline rude, which set the tone from the start. During dinner, when our second round of drinks arrived, the server seemed unsure where they belonged~even though the original glasses were still clearly on the table. The food itself was fine. The standout dish was the lamb tartare, which was excellent, and to be fair, everyone's meat was cooked exactly as requested. Overall, it was an okay meal, but based on our experience, it didn't quite match the level of praise suggested by the reviews.

The ambiance feels straight of the golden age, which is an aesthetic I'm certainly a sucker for. Even their robust cocktail menu fits the bill and is one of the prettiest menus I've ever had the joy of perusing. Staff was able to sit us a little bit ahead of our reservation which was also much appreciated. Wait staff was also very helpful and attentive, I don't think I've ever had my water glass so topped off! Starting off with cocktails, this place is a gin bar through and through and you'd be making a mistake if you didn't try one of their many options. I went with the 10,000 words, which you simply just give a spirit of your choice (I picked gin of course) and whether you antes) wanted your drink shaken or stirred and the bartender does the rest, so a bit of a surprise! I wound up with their version of The Last Word which was delightfully citrusy but I was hoping I'd wind up with something a little more adventurous app things considered. My girlfriend got the blackberry G&T, which was not only very pleasing to look at but delicious to boot. For food, we started with splitting some zucchini blossoms and beef cheek bao buns (both come in portions of 3). Both were tasty, but I love a good bao bun and these were so light and pillowy, I could have just went for an order of those for my main course. For the entree I went for the roasted half chicken, perhaps the most unassuming choice on the menu but this was maybe the best roast chicken I've ever had. Prepared perfectly, cooked to perfection, excellent portion size, and the kicker of it all was the stunning gravy that I was tempted to lick my plate for. Chicken is very easy to screw up, and they nailed it on all fronts here. My girlfriend went for the Valerie Signature burger with white cheddar and this thing did not mess around! A very rich patty, cooked to her temperature of choice served alongside some garlic truffle fries that made an American classic feel just a little more elevated. Our experience was delightful and I'd love to comeback here again, especially to check out more of the cocktail menu and soak in more of that golden age aura the place gives.

The bartender knew the drinks inside and out and was able to make some good recommendations. We had the Profunda and two of us had the Imprimatura. Creative, thoughtful, balanced! We also ordered spiced nuts and half a dozen oysters, which were fresh and tender. The bar area was modern and lovely so we were almost reluctant to depart when our table was ready! However, that reluctance dissipated when we entered the bright and airy dining room. It felt like we were eating in a very upscale greenhouse! Great natural light made for a relaxing atmosphere. We opted for the 3-course menu as we had plans to tour the museum afterwards and couldn't fathom doing so after the 8-course tasting menu! We also did the add-on wine pairing. Initially, we were going to order a bottle of wine but the wine list is 150 pages long, and why tie yourself to one varietal? Before the meal even began, we enjoyed 2 amuse bouche offerings; a fish confection and jamon serrano on crackers We started with the eggs on eggs on eggs - completely worth the supplement; unctuous, umamai, decadent. A symphony of flavors and textures. Since there were 3 of us, the server thoughtfully brought out 3 toasts so we could easily share. Before the "real" food started arriving, we were also brought a marble loaf and light, airy butter. Two of us started with the chilled lobster starter; one had the white bean cappelletti. The white beans were the standout! The garlic flavor was a beautiful compliment to the meaty morels without being overpowering, and we were very glad for the marble loaf to soak up the sauce! While the lobster was super fresh and the dish executed perfectly, the lemon was a tad overpowering. The bartender highly recommended the chicken; however, two of us opted for the sea trout and one had the pork. I didn't sample the pork, but the sea trout was velvety and rich, with a beautifully scented saffron broth. To finish, we had the dark chocolate cremeux (complex, adult, DANGEROUS!), the yuzu gelato (fresh and tart!) and the deconstructed carrot cake (cozy and familiar). A note about the wine - Isabelle the sommelier was a true standout! She chose some unusual pairings that worked perfectly with our meals and explained in good detail about each wine and why she selected it. In addition to having a perfect pairing, we also got some good educational enrichment. Isabelle is clearly passionate about wine and her selections and service really added to the meal. The service is consistently excellent. It's one of those restaurants where you feel very well taken care of from start to finish, and the space itself has a lively, polished energy that makes every visit feel like an occasion. The food, for me, is a bit more mixed. There are a few standout touches I really enjoy, especially the butter service and the bagel service, which always feel fun and well done. The French onion soup was memorable the first time I had it, though I've since had an even better version elsewhere that raised the bar for me. Some dishes land better than others. The Caesar salad is fine but not particularly memorable, the pasta dishes are generally okay, and I didn't love the artichoke dish, which felt a bit tough and underwhelming. The mac and cheese also didn't quite hit for me and felt a bit heavy without much payoff. That said, I can absolutely see the appeal of this restaurant--especially the experience, the atmosphere, and the service. My friend particularly loves the fries, which seem to be a consistent favorite. For me, it's a place I enjoy when I'm invited and treated, especially for those little signature touches like the butter service. It feels very indulgent and fun, even if not every dish is a standout.
