Came here for a late breakfast again. My mom ordered the giant raisin scone again, along with a cup of tea. Daughter ordered the same breakfast sandwich that she ordered last time along with a mocha, and I ordered the Adult Mac n Cheese with a London Fog. There were a couple of hiccups this time. First of all they mixed up my daughter's drink order. Instead of a mocha they made her a hot chocolate. It looked like a wonderful hot chocolate, with a lovely heap of whipping cream on top but it was not what she ordered. So they took it away and made the mocha that she ordered. Then there was my order. My Adult Mac n cheese comes with toast. When they asked which kind of bread I would like for my toast, I asked if I could have the curry baguette bread which is usually used for their Shrimp Melt sandwich. They misunderstood and thought I was changing my order from Mac n Cheese to the Shrimp Melt sandwich itself! Nope, that's not what I wanted. I still wanted the Mac n Cheese but was just wanting to have the curry baguette bread as my "toast" since the Mac n Cheese comes with toast. When they finally realized what I was actually asking for, they then told me they couldn't do that. They only use the curry baguette for the Shrimp Melt sandwich. So then I chose sourdough to go with my Adult Mac n Cheese. It was very noisy in the shop this time. The noise level really turned off my mom. She ate up just a bit of scone, left the rest, didn't even finish her tea and then left to go walk in the IGA supermarket nearby just to escape the noise. My daughter and I finished up as quickly as we could so that we could go join my mother in the supermarket. I left first and when my daughter came to find us in the supermarket she said the people at The Bakehouse gave us a bag with 3 cookies in it for free, as a token gift for the troubles we went through in having 2 of our orders mixed up that day. I ate one of the cookies later in the day. It seemed like some kind of shortbread cookie with frosting sandwiched between it. Too sweet for my taste but I very much appreciated the gesture. I think it shows very good customer service. Don't think we'll go back there with my mother again as we'd rather not risk subjecting her to the extreme noise level again. My daughter and I would happily come back together though as we love the food there, and were very impressed with the service. Yes, they botched up our orders but how a restaurant redeems themself from a mistake says just as much about an establishment as not making a mistake in the first place. Impressed with the recovery they made, so in spite of the mistakes...still giving them a good rating! read more

This is breakfast at Grandma's. Nothing more. Nothing less. Cozy Dundarave, West Vancouver covered in freshly fallen golden Maple leaves, as the trees sway the wind and you, toward the rustic door of The Bakehouse. Everything from in-house made eggs and toast, sandwiches, coffee and muffins paralleled with the staff's warm, welcoming and happy-to-see you smiles. Frankly, I haven't had that experience since...well...the last time I was at my Grandma's....which was...well...let's leave it there. "The Works" breakfast was two eggs, turkey sausage, potatoes and rosemary-sourdough toast. Everything on my plate tasted and smelled like it was made for a special guest visiting....like you would at home for a visitor. My favorite restaurant in West Van, as a 10+ year resident. It really reminds you of grandma's cooking, for lack of a better description. Everything is hearty and fresh, and made from scratch. My brother worked here all throughout high school, and I was able to hear stories of the work that goes into baking the bread, marinating the chicken for the divine charbroiled chicken sandwich, and making the jam. Such a lovely brunch place! We came here on a Saturday after hiking. The atmosphere is so relaxing and down to earth. Food tasted great. A very pleasant coffee/brunch/sandwich shop frequented by locals in Dundarave. Sandwich here is very good and well priced by West Van standards. My wife has been going here for years and it was the first time I joined her. Today I tried the charbroiled chicken breast hot sandwich and HTLC hot sandwich. The grilled chicken sandwich was excellent. All ingredients were very good and they used just the right amount of sauce to not overpower the flavor of grilled chicken. Coffee was average as their focus is more on food than as a coffee shop. Coffee was choice of dark roast or regular. Overall a great place to grab a quick lunch or weekend brunch. read more

I have an appreciation for casual counter service sandwich spots with decent amounts of seating, and The Bakehouse fulfills just that. In this upmarket neighborhood, it's nice to know that you can get a sizeable sandwich, served up with fresh house made bread, for around $10. I tried the charbroiled chicken breast on herbed focaccia with almond pesto, cucumber, and swiss. Note that even though the sandwich was listed under the "hot" selections, it wasn't served panini style (no toasted bread or melted cheese). No matter, as in its current form it was still a tasty and satisfying combination of ingredients. The space has an open air kitchen with pleasant wooden furnishings and copies of the day's local papers scattered around for perusing. My one suggestion is that they do a deep clean of the floors--the collection of dust and detritus under some of the serving cases, etc, is a bit of an eyesore, and not indicative of the quality wares that they seem to serve. Also to note, they close at 4:00pm every day, so this is not an evening-style cafe. read more

I had a lovely brunch here over the weekend in charming Dundarave. There is plenty of seating inside and outside, so lines go rather quickly. The food was comforting and delicious - a lovely Benny and breakfast sandwich. Everything tasted really fresh and homemade, and portions were huge. Oh, how I miss the Edgemont Bakehouse. Best staff, better menu, great location. My family visited the Dundarave location this morning because my husband really enjoys their food, and honestly I might have to divorce him for liking this place. Pros: cashier was really sweet, bread was really good, very kid-friendly, clean bathrooms. Cons: dirty tables, kitchen staff did not look like they were in any rush to get orders out while they stood around laughing, food was SO BORING. The vegan veggie sandwich I ordered was in dire need of seasoning. It was anemic with the sparse shreds of carrot, sad, mealy tomato, little bit of spring mix, too much onion, and the unseasoned excuse for guacamole that lathered the inside of the focaccia. I've tried my best to like this cafe, but I just cannot spend my money on their overpriced, poorly done food or their expensive rent. There are plenty of better places to eat across the North Shore. read more

On a Sunday at noon, the Bakehouse is packed! Place your order at the counter and then find a table. There is quite a wait. I witnesses some women at a nearby table confront an employee about the long wait and then storm out in frustration. I didn't mind waiting since I had a cup of coffee and friends to catch up with. I thought the french toast was worth the wait. However, if you are looking for food in a jiffy to be enjoyed in a nice quite environment, free of screaming children, you are better off somewhere else. read more

I eat here regularly for lunch and it is great. Order and pay at the counter (I try extremely hard not to look at all the delicious baked goods and pies next to the cashier) and give your name and they will bring you the food. Don't forget to grab silverware, napkins and water on your way to your table. They have fabulous, enormous sandwiches made on their homemade bread, especially the "HTLC" (ham, tomato, lettuce & cheese). I also absolutely love their "bakehouse salad" because it is also huge and comes with Irish soda bread and chicken or shrimp. So good! The service is great, the staff are all friendly and welcoming. Kind of in the middle here, baked goods are fantastic, and the sandwiches are made with amazing fresh in-house bread. But I haven't felt this crowded since 10 of us crammed in a Ford Tempo to go to a Pearl Jam concert. Seriously though this place could remove 2 or 3 tables and it would still be a sardine can. Good Morning Regarding opening at 0800hr. After a one hour drive, I arrive at 0759 and the staff would not allow us to come in. Staff just yelled at us were closed. Come on one minute, we could of just sat down and waited. Extremely disappointing after me driving with my friend for an hour boasting how nice The Bake House is. Unfriendly food service is not for me. Now I will be certainly letting all of my friends know how rudely we were greeted. Went to Cindy's down the road good food and pleasant service! Update I called the manager, and of course she supported the staff stating that the fans are really loud and perhaps she yelled a little too loud or possibly had a hard morning. Humm, not the patrons issue. If you do not want customers at 0759 only 60 seconds before 0800 as their posted on the opening sign, they could put the closed sign outside where customers can see it rather just inside the door where you literally don't see it until u have entered the shop. I was so looking forward to lunch at the Bakehouse. The Edgemont location was one of my favourite spots when we lived in Vancouver... On our way to Lighthouse Park, we stopped for lunch. And it was okay, but when I had built it up so much in my mind, I was disappointed. Couple things happened... My daughter wanted the kids eggs & toast which they don't do after 11... One of the things I LOVED about the Bakehouse was homemade lemonade, now it's bottled. Staff was impatient as we ordered. They did however,have some pies on the go which was fun to watch. This is a wonderful little personal place created with lots of love. They have a selection of great freshly prepared meals. The service is quick and friendly. I came to "The Bakehouse in Dundarave" and can't wait to return! The ambiance, with wooden furniture/floors, art from local artists on the walls, and warm lighting, is cozy and very welcoming. The staff were all very cheerful and attentive, and even though it was a little packed, the service was timely. I had the "Bocaccini Panini" and it was the best panini I've ever had! I'd recommend it if you're having a tough time deciding :P Oh, and their baked goods are to die for! I bought a red velvet cupcake, and loved it: it was moist, had the perfect amount of sweetness and enough icing to leave me in heaven! It's all made in store and they had fresh pies that also looked quite enticing,. In short, great ambiance, timely service, and great food. It saddens me to write this review because my wife and I have been regular patrons of this cafe for the past few months and the owner is really a lovely person. However, her staff on the weekends (when she she is not around) are not ! Yesterday my wife and I were subject to the rudest, most condescending behavior I have ever seen in the hospitality industry in my life. And I work in the wine industry so I work with restaurants all the time and have only the greatest respect for professional service. The sweet pastries are good but their savory pies and meals are crap. I ordered the shepherds pie, thinking they couldn't screw it up. Well they did. A rather difficult customer was in front of us in line, and the cashier was extremely patient and courteous and someone else quickly realized we were waiting and took our order. Both the pastries and hot breakfast foods were outstanding and a great value. We would come back in a heartbeat and would like to try lunch there as well! read more

Ordered the chili to go. The staff seemed like they were chickens with their heads cut off....didn't seem to know where they were going ir what they were doing. After waiting about 15mins and watching everyone who ordered after me get their food, they finally noticed I was still waiting and tracked down my order. When I got to work to eat my lunch, the bowl was only half full. What a huge waste of money. I could have gotten chili that would have tasted the same at Tim Hortons, and gotten a drink and donut for what I ended up paying for the chili alone. My kids and I come here at least once a week. The staff are incredibly friendly and go out of their way to say hi to my kids. The food is very good as are the pies and baked breads. My favorites are the brie sandwich and the tomato basil soup. I also love that there's a kids menu. the place has terrible service; despite the odd employee who is well intentioned. the orders are never right you order soup and it can be changed without notice if they have just run out so something just appears - 1/2 a sandwich with no salad to accompany - which was ordered they did not even match bread ends so lop sided affair. i think for the prices they need to fix things.....wait time not good....service...mediocre at best.....some products ok but not worth the $$$ and aggravation of the wait etc. read more
