I visited Meril with some coworkers while on a business trip in NOLA. I have to say Meril was excellent! Tapas style eating with dishes that had inspiration from various different cuisines. The atmosphere was good, plenty of light and room. I made a reservation through Open Table. Service was great and food came out pretty fast. Servers were very attentive and quite informative about the food when prompted with questions. The food was the star of the show though!! The Laotian Style Pork Rice Bowl is AMAZING. Lots of cilantro and mint leaves on top, fresh Thai chilis that give a really nice spicy kick, and really flavor fully seasoned pork. I thought the amount of mint and cilantro was going to be overbearing but wHen mixed in with the rest of the rice bowl this dish was bomb!! It was my favorite dish of the night for sure and possibly one of my favorite dishes I've had in a long time. Saffron Pappardelle was pretty good. It has a lamb ragu but it wasn't mindblowing or anything. It was a solid dish that I'd order again but wouldn't say it was the best. Fettuccine Nero was really tasty! Lots of crab meat, and with toasted almonds it's a really flavorful and different type of pasta dish. The fettuccine is also dark green, not sure what it's made of. I recommend this over the Saffron Pappa. Mexican style corn off the cob is very tasty!! A little spice with mayo and cotija make this side dish a must try flavor adventure! Fried buttermilk biscuits were delicious!! They are round like little fried dough balls and not like traditional biscuits. The miso honey butter is epic btw. Yellowfin Tuna Wraps were fresh and light. They have bib lettuce wraps incase the menu isn't clear on that. The flavors were good and had a little spice from the jalapeño. Market Vegetable flat bread is okay, nothing special. Lobster Mac and cheese (special) was good but nothing extraordinary. It was a little more liquidy that I expected under the crunchy breaded surface. Decent amount of lobster in it. House made Meatballs were okay, nothing special. Tres Leches King Cake (special) was the best dessert I had the whole time in NOLA. Tasted like a snickerdoodle sponge cake with whipped cream. I would order it every time if available! Meril was recommended to us by a friend. Generally speaking, we've had good experiences with Emeril Lagasse's restaurants and the menu at Meril was definitely appealing. It also helped it was an easy walk from our hotel. The space is lovely if a touch noisy. We felt very safe with their pandemic protocols in place. We had a quaint corner table with a view outside for good people watching. Our server Lauren did a great job guiding us through the menu. We suspected she was a tad annoyed with the very boisterous table of 5 next to us yet she never gave us mind and was fully attentive to our experience. Lauren let us know the menu had a nice mix of items to share as well as individual entrees. We started with the yellowfin tuna bundles. Given there are three per order, Lauren checked to see if we'd like a fourth to share. We moved on the the charred octopus salad to share . I expressed my concern about the octopus but Lauren assured me it was well prepared. She double checked once it arrived and I gave my approval. For entrees, my husband picked the ribs. Not my thing but the cilantro potato salad was something I'd try to make at home it was that enjoyable. I picked the Mushroom Farm Gnudi with truffle ricotta, delicious and appropriately portioned. We also got the Mexican corn of the cob and Incan taste why it comes recommended. We also enjoyed bananas foster ice cream for dessert. We are in New Orleans to go on a cruise and a friend recommended this place. So we walked over from the French market and where able to walk right in and get seated on a Sunday night. The specials tonight looked great and I decided on the lobster bisque, and Louisiana Baked Oysters Spinach * Artichoke * Parmesan cheese. Both which where delicious! Zach and Kalli were the best, tag teaming our party of six keeping our waters and drinks filled! For the main course I got the crawfish and pasta dish called Crawfish Monica, that was also amazing, filled with flavor! Highly recommend! My husband and I visited New Orleans for my birthday for the first time last weekend and our room was right across the street from Meril. We hadn't planned on stopping by, but after hearing from two separate Uber drivers, we decided to stop in and I am so happy we did. For starters, the customer service was amazing. Our server Dale was knowledgeable and attentive. He was the absolute best! He made our experience that much better. Now for the food! The menu was set up tapas style so that you can try a little of everything and share with others if you'd like. The kitchen even took the time to split a couple of our selections into two. We ordered the Fried Chicken Salad Shrimp Tacos Candied Pork Ribs Miso Honey Butter Biscuits Korean Fried Wings Korean Short Ribs We also ordered a few drink which did not disappoint. If you're looking for a detailed review, this is it! I had a reservation for my birthday (11/17) at 7:45 and made it there at 7:20. Several hosts greeted us as we walked in. I expected to wait for a table still since I usually do at other restaurants when I arrive early, but we were seated right away. The ambiance is nice. They had a beautiful Christmas tree set up. Restaurant was pretty packed, but not at full capacity. Here's a breakdown on all the food we ordered. Florida rock shrimp tacos- $12 (5/5) definitely my favorite thing we ordered. $12 for 2 tacos and we added an extra for $6 since there was 3 of us. Definitely overpriced for something I finished in 3 bites, but the flavor was there. Smoked gulf fish dip- $5 (3/5) not what I was expecting. it had a strong smoky flavor and was missing a little acidity. Comes with truffled pasta chips. Korean fried chicken wings- $10 (4/5) 3 pieces covered in sticky gochujang sauce. it lacked spice. sauce was sweet, not too sweet. ended up being another fave of the night. Upside down cornbread- $6 (5/5) perfect combination of savory and sweet. the bacon marmalade is such a nice touch. Half chicken under a brick- $20 (2/5) i was looking forward most to this. It came out barely warm and each of us got one piece. Overpriced, but it did have good flavor. I was disappointed. Fresh fish of the day- $20 (2/5) amberjack served with some purée and green beans. im not a fan of this fish, it has a strong fishy flavor so if you don't like that, pass. Mexican style corn off the cob- $7 (3/5) if you're thinking about real Mexican style elotes, this isn't it. it's just creamy and cheesy. doesn't have spice/acidity. small portion as well. Brussel sprouts- $7 (4/5) I love Brussel sprouts and these were pretty good! The Apple smoked bacon vinaigrette was a nice addition and didn't overpower the overall taste. Desserts: banana pudding ice cream cake ($6) chocolate chip skillet cookie ($6) and desert special of the day key lime pie ($6). All were good. Cookie is basic choc chip. Banana pudding cake was my fave! I love banana. Drinks: drink of the day was a red sangria ($12) and a la Paloma ($11). Both okay. Nothing amazing. A lot of people were celebrating either birthdays or special occasions because the servers come around with these complimentary cute sparklers and cotton candy hooting and hollering "YEAH" and i think it's super cute. Let them know if you're celebrating something special! Our servers were attentive and made sure we had all we needed. OK, for the food: Crispy chicken livers : this went down lightning fast, smothered it onto the baguette absolutely amazing. Korean fried chicken, nice and crisped just right. This was hands-down the best meal of my vacation in New Orleans. Started with one of the cocktails specials - a Caribbean Coconut Rum Punch. It went down all too easily. I was quickly staring at the bottom of my glass wanting more, trying to calculate how many I could drink before my wallet gave out and I was unable to walk home. I indulged in a second. Key lime creme brûlée (5/5) - We rarely get dessert but it was an occasion! Still drooling over this dessert! And lastly, I'm so glad they remembered it was my hubby's birthday. I have never been a huge fan of the Emerils brand, however they won me over with Merils! For once I can say that I'm happy with the spin that they put on traditional food. The Atmosphere is amazing, the music has me a swaying in my seat, it's no wonder why a reservation is always needed! My favorite appetizers are the Korean BBQ chicken and the flatbread. I had so many more but they have revamped the menu. I love the Paella on Thursday's you never can go wrong with the catch of the day either. The sommelier always creates or recommends the best so you never can go wrong with him either. We had reservations and we were seated immediately upon arrival. I tried a verity of foods, snacks -fried turkey necks 2/5 the sauce was cold and the turkey was too tough to chew. Pineapple cornbread 3/5 it was cold but good nonetheless. The LA crawfish Rangoon dip was 5/5 very delicious!! However, the mimosas were 0/5. They started off great with our first round and it was truly bottomless. But at our third round the mimosas turned into flat orange and that's it. We had two rounds of just orange juice before we asked the server to remake them and she did with less oj and more champagne. If you aren't willing to offer bottomless mimosas then REMOVE it from the menu. The service was SOSO. Our main server made us feel very rushed the entire time. And then proceeded to ignore our table for the rest of the night and cornered my friend on his way to the bathroom after my husband complained to the manager. Fabulous meal from start to finish! Baked cheese appetizer was delicious, and the crispy cauliflower was bursting with a million different flavors--to the point I did a happy dance at the table. Everyone loved their main courses--when the waitress offered adding crab meat to the gnudi, I was delighted and it did not disappoint. Brussel sprout side was good--not the best ever, but definitely not the worst. My husband had an old fashioned to start and I loved the Choup cocktail. My husband and I ate here tonight and left very disappointed. Before I go further about that, I will mention the hostess was kind and sat us quickly with what was available and our server was a kind gentleman who was very helpful, answered all questions, and kept up with refilling our waters on this hot New Orleans evening. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice as well--good noise level, spacious between tables, and nice lighting. We ordered the upside down pineapple cornbread for a starter. The cornbread itself was average but the bacon had a sweet rancid taste that did not taste like pineapple. This came out pretty quickly, as did the starters for the tables on either side of us, then we waited (all three tables). Our entrees took about 45 minutes after that. My husband ordered the beef short ribs. The flavor was lacking, and the meat was so tough that chewing a bite took forever. I realize this is not a Korean restaurant so wasn't expecting perfection, but this is a restaurant by a celebrated chef so I expected better. I ordered the gnudi. The gnudi themselves were delicate and nice but the pesto was average and the squash was inconsistently cooked from some pieces being still crunchy to others being wet mush. Lastly, my husband also ordered the roasted carrots. He did not like the flavor and they were very dry. I also thought they were dry and they were not roasted through, instead of being tender enough to cut with a fork they were still pretty crunchy and required a knife. The only drawback was that it was pretty damn slow, so it would be great if you want a super leisurely dinner, but not totally thrilling when yore jet lagged and ready for bed. My party ordered a bunch of small and not-so-small plates. Our first course began with croquetas, Brussels sprout and sweet potato salad, meatballs, and upside-down cornbread. The stars were the meatballs - sort of spicy with an amazing red sauce! - and the upside down cornbread with pineapple and bacon jam. Ummm, yeah. Just order me three of those and leave me alone for a little while, because those may have required some personal time. So good! We also got several pastas - the saffron papardalle, the fettuccini Nero, and the special fusilli with Tasso cream sauce. All were delightful, but the papardalle would have been even better with that same red sauce from the meatballs. The absolute best was the special. The Tasso cream was subtly spicy and the fusilli was perfectly al dente. The candied pork ribs were ok, but didn't compare the ones at Cochon. Next time, I'll save myself for something better. Ditto the Brussels sprout side - just kind of blah. The pork belly was pretty yummy, though. Finished off with the chocolate peanut butter banana cream pie (OMG!) and the bananas Foster doberge (pretty damn good). Glad I saved at least a little room for dessert! read more
