First, Megan's assumption that Chelsea Plank was not contacted by the retailer is erroneous, the retailer did reach out to them and their Sales Manager did respond to the retailer, I saved the original email exchanges with our retailer who mentions the Sales Manager by name. At the time the retailer replied "he (the Chelsea Plank sales manager) stated that the knots in the flooring are standard due to it being a character floor. And he does not supply or have recommendations on an epoxy to fill." I replied through their website yesterday as Megan instructed and was contacted by the same Sales Manager that responded to our retailer. He, like Megan, blamed the retailer, saying it failed to adequately describe to us the characteristics of the flooring we ordered. He completely ignored our complaint regarding the fully open holes in flooring, going so far as to say; "From the pictures, it looks that they are partially open (not all the way through)" despite my photo showing the pencils through the flooring(!), and my description of the problem in item 2 of my review below, quote "we found about half a dozen fully open knots that the installer overlooked" and also completely ignoring item 3 of my review, quote "It's been 4 months since installation, the 'partially open knots' continue to crack and become fully open knots!" I asked the Sales Manager to carefully re-read my concerns so he understands the issues before replying again, it's been 24 hours and no reply has been received. I stand behind my original comments regarding the poor quality of the Character Grade flooring and of their customer service. --------------Original review begins below---------------- We purchased the Craftsman Series, Heirloom Red Oak flooring from Chelsea Plank because we wanted hardwood flooring with a lot of character. 1. When the flooring was delivered I noticed a damaged box with wood splinters protruding. I told the delivery person I wanted to open and inspect the box before accepting it. I was told, "Sir, if you open the box I can't take it back." So I replied, "Then take it back and bring me another one." He replied, "If I take it back I can't guarantee the replacement will be of the same lot number, and so it might not match the others." So either accept the box and hope for the best, or reject it and hope for the best. I accepted the box but set it aside to be opened last if necessary. We had sufficient flooring to complete the job and that box was returned for a refund (we were charged a restocking fee, I thought this was inappropriate given the box was delivered damaged). 2. The Craftsman Series is a 'Character grade' hardwood. Chelsea Plank says that this flooring is "character grade lumber that includes partially open knots, bird peck, worm holes and mineral streaks". That's fine, we like wood with character and it's why we chose it, however after installation we found about half a dozen fully open knots that the installer overlooked, their warranty claims "each box may contain a small percentage of defects (normally less than 1%)" but our experience says 5% will be defective if a fully open knot is considered a defect. To the installer's credit he returned and filled each with a special blend of epoxy wood filler at his own effort and expense (when we asked Chelsea Plank for advice about filling the knots they said they didn't recommend it, but didn't offer an alternative), the only other option would have been to pull up the defective planks and ask for replacements. 3. It's been 4 months since installation, the "partially open knots" continue to crack and become fully open knots! My wife had been using a vacuum with a hard floor attachment and we discovered it has been sucking up the loose wood from the cracking knots. So now I'm keeping an eye on the floor and as I observe knots cracking I apply wood epoxy to secure them in place. 4. We reached out the Chelsea Plank through the retailer who we bought the flooring from, through their contact page on their website, and even to them through linkedin but basically we've been ignored. The Craftsman series is their highest grade of the 'Character grade' flooring, if that's true then God help you if you purchase the Cottage or Lodge series. I assume our experience with their customer service after the purchase, i.e., non-existent, will be true for others regardless of the grade of flooring you chose. These are the reasons I can't recommend Chelsea Plank Flooring.

He came over promptly, appraised the job in moments, and shared a great variety of samples to choose from. He said "lifetime" and I was sold. Two days later they came. His installers were quiet, polite and deft. In a day and a half, I had new, waterproof and gorgeous floors. There are no bump, or lips on the floor and the finish on the trim work and transitions in excellent. I'm a DIY'er. And I was considering it, but even doing it myself, I couldn't compete. Mack, the owner provided it all. Excellent price. Excellent communication. Excellent timeline. EXCELLENT results. No shenanigans. Best money I've spent on my house? I imagine you understand by now. They did a gorgeous job on my project…read more It was really hard to get a tile quote out of ANYBODY - they were no exception :P but after calling 5 people, getting actual quotes from 2 (theirs was more expensive) and the first ghosting me, I was a bit hard up. They were not very reachable by phone but excellent communication by email which worked for me. They are busy so it took a while to get a quote. George the installer and Steve the owner were very nice to communicate with, were happy to wear masks, and were very professional. They took care with a tricky layout, had to build up the substrate to match the level of the floor. They used quality materials and craftsmanship.

He had empty Bud Light and tequila bottles strewn over the home. He also proceeded to show up drunk at 9:30pm one night of the project saying he was going to work and sleep at our home. He refused to leave and it took over 2 hours to get him off our property. Additionally, he accepted the contract after saying he would do the work by himself and with his mentor John. He then showed up late with a crew that he said he hired through advertisements, but had never met before. He shortly after fired them as they were not doing a good job. Allen also asked for extra money beyond what he quoted us to buy supplies. These were never delivered or purchased and he never repaid this money. We ultimately fired him when the stains came out markedly uneven, blotchy, and showed all the poor sanding he had done with deep marks in the wood. He also splashed stain over our walls/trim that now need to be re painted. He again refused to leave the house and I had to physically remove his equipment myself. He did leave all of his dirty rags and trash in the house for me to clean up after him. He took his case of Bud Light out of the fridge though. Horrific experience. Now of course need to hire someone else to get the project done.

I was recommended a brand based on pets and cleaning ability. Doug came out and measured then I selected Mohawk Smart Strand carpet for four rooms and closets. I'm a vintage person, so I've had many dealings with carpet installers and products. I can honestly tell you this was one of the best installs and product recommendation I've had in my life. From now on I will buy all of my flooring from Carpet Depot.

But, I am so happy that we went with a locally owned company and not some other "guys" to install our floors. Not only did they match the price the other guys quoted me, but Dave was able to schedule the installation within a couple of weeks from the day I made the order. Dean did the installation, and he was great! He was on time every day of the project. He consulted with us on how we wanted the floors to look, and he made it happen. He took his time going around difficult corners to make sure it was right. I cannot say enough about Dave and Dean. It was a bit of a challenge to pin Dave down make the order, but once we did, everything went like you would dream a project with a contractor would go. I highly recommend Friend Fine Flooring to anyone with flooring needs. And if you call some guys who specialize in carpet, call Dave right after you talk to them. And ask to have Dean do the install!

They obtained moving estimates for our selection, and then supervised the loading. They also arranged for the remaining items to be distributed to the organization of our choice and then for the remaining items to be disposed off appropriately. Finally they brought in cleaners to prepare the house to be put up for sale. I can't say enough about the enormous care they took in packing and the outside labeling of boxes to facilitate ease of unpacking. Everything arrived in excellent shape. I could not have accomplished all of this without this team of highly trained and motivated staff from the Bette Brigade.

Our project was completed in 9 weeks, 3 weeks less then many others quoted and looks fabulous. They are a high quality company with great contractors, a design staff and wonderful project managers. You won't be unhappy with the results, we are ecstatic!
