Got take-out, so can't comment on ambiance or service. Overall the food was good here-- got a meat combo and a veggie combo and split it with one person. Servings were small. Most Ethiopian places I can get multiple meals from an order but the entrees here are truly one meal. Lots of injera, though. Most places are too stingy with injera but Mesob is generous. Injera was a little different from most places-- darker color and more sour. Some of the veggies were slightly undercooked-- carrots, potatoes, and cabbage were a bit hard. The flavors in the dishes made up for most shortcomings though- good flavor, doro wat is always a favorite, as is the string bean. Order was ready on time, and I would order again. Not a fan. The space is pretty rough around the edges, the service was slow and disorganized and although the place had nice smells when you enter, the food really didn't back it up. It's possible I just don't like Ethiopian food, but either way, I won't be returning. Good Ethiopian beer and everything was pretty inexpensive, is the best I can say. read more

We came in with a reservation of 10 and ended up having 18 people and the one waitress had took care of us with no problem AT ALL. She was amazing. The food was soooo amazing!!!! And the atmosphere was welcoming to ALL. We had a groups of people for all walks of life. All different races and beliefs and we all felt welcomed. A group of us ate at Mesob to celebrate my sister in laws birthday and had the best time! The food was delicious and the service impeccable. Our waiter was so kind and personable. It's a family run restaurant and you could tell the care that was put into the food. I called a few days ahead as I have Celiac disease and they made gluten free Injera for our party and ensured everything was safe for me to eat. I felt great afterwards. I'm trying Ethiopian food the second time and prior to this experience I was NOT a fan. I came in with 0 to very low expectations. I was BLOWN AWAY at how AMAZING EVERYTHING was here. They were understaffed so the food took a little long to come out, however the manager came and interrupted our table to apologize for the delay and to insist that we not leave a tip. If you're looking for good Ethiopian food in Denver, everyone knows you hit up east Colfax. Mesob holds its own among the best in Denver. I've only gotten food to-go, so I don't have much to say about the ambiance. I'd be lying if I told you I could remember the names of the dishes I've tried. But every single one has been spot on. The injera bread is fluffy and tangy, kind of like a sourdough pancake. It is the perfect way to mop up a plate of delicious meat and vegetables. The staff has always greeted me with a friendly smile and prompt attention. I definitely look forward to dining in, but in the meantime, I have found a go-to for takeout Ethiopian food. read more

Food is still good but portion size has gotten alot smaller. Ordered a vegetable combo and another dish to go. The portions were almost the size of two tablespoons. The food sat on the injera bread and was beautifully placed. Everything was fresh and hot. We ordered the Veggie Combo and it was absolutely delicious. We enjoyed taking our pieces of injera and scooping up the different veggies. The generous amount of yummy injera had the tangy, spongy, sour taste to it. The delicious African spices that permeate the veggies make each one unique and flavorsome. First Ethiopian food experience! The service was lovely and very generous with their injera bread. I can tell this is a great spot for all times during the day. I was there for dinner and saw many getting beers, they have a full bar. There is areas that are secluded perfect for a date. Wow. I ordered take-out and was beyond delighted. My order was ready promptly, the restaurant was clean, and family-run. So not only is it a local business, you get to practically eat out of someone's kitchen / enjoy age-old family recipes. I ordered the Kitfo - a raw beef based dish. Don't fear, the seasonings used kills any bacteria, and the entree is DELICIOUS. Like a steak tartar with unbelievable seasoning. Also PLENTY of injera to scoop up every last morsel of meat-y goodness. $12 before tax with a portion large enough to easily provide two meals (in my case: one large meal, and a snack for the next day. Pretty darn tasty food. Now, I'm comparing to my fav hole in the wall in Dallas where the food is completely out of this world (Arif Cafe). Mesob is pretty darn good. Not over the top great, but good enough that I'd return for sure. As I now live in rural nowhere Colorado, I'm happy with anything tasting good. This restaurant was such an amazing experience. Firstly the staff treats you like family when serving you. They gave us suggestions since we don't eat Ethiopian food that often. They were honest about wait times and the food prep reflected just that. They have an amazing Ethiopian Beer important straight from the motherland and it was delicious. Very good food! I had the vegetarian combo plate and a meat combo plate for my family and I to share. Ethiopian food is all about sharing, which makes eating it along with eating it with your hands, a fun, unique experience. The sambosa appetizer was delicious as well! The service is also good there. Not for me. We phoned in a to-go order and when we arrived 25 minutes later, they clearly had never put the order in. And so we waited another 20 minutes after the order was finally fired. Instead of acknowledging the hiccup and making amends, they made up some excuse. The food was okay but I could not get over the injera which tasted like someone had dumped baking powder into it. In copious amounts. The best part of injera (for me) is the fact that it's fermented. If you're dumping in raising agents, that sucks. And even more so if it makes everything taste like a chemical. Maybe they had an off night but I've got other favorite Ethiopian restaurants in the city. So I don't much feel like taking a return gamble. read more
