After 18 months of dealing with our new normal my eyes see everything through a lens of "blah". Little seems exciting and those things that have an air of excitement also come partnered with a healthy dose of fear. I found myself in the City, wanting to treat myself to lunch, a small celebration for a job well done doing something I'd last done more than 1.5 years earlier. Mesopotamia Kitchen was that celebration. With its wall mounted menu lacking any explicit descriptors and charmless outdoor seating area with 4 small tables, Mesopotamia Kitchen seems not to be a place one would go to celebrate but when one samples the food one begins to think differently. My Falafel Plate ($12.95) was far prettier than I anticipated, very fresh, and plated with genuine care for the presentation. None of that matters if the food is subpar but this plateful held the bar aloft. Frankly, it was 100% delicious and I ate every last bite. Fresh, hot falafel, babaganoush, hummus, high quality pita, a really good salad, and - who doesn't like more dipping sauces? - an unanticipated dollop of one more sauce, origins unknown. I was looking for a good place that serves kabab and I found it near by in Noe Valley. I must of walked by this place various times and I finally stopped and went inside. I order the Mediterranean mix kebab plate and it was delicious but wish they had added more rice and more hummus. The chicken kebab was juicy but the lamb kebab was my favorite. The lamb was tender and not gamey at all. I enjoyed the salad and pita. A good place to enjoy a good plate of kebabs. read more

I tried out Mesopotamia Kitchen yesterday for lunch and was so impressed! Their small little shop offered super delicious Mediterranean food all at a reasonable price! It can be found right on 24th Street in Noe Valley. The staff are really accommodating and they have a big parklet in the front so you can people watch while eating. I tried their lamb wrap with fries and it hit the spot! So good and the table side hot sauce gave it an even more flavorful kick. Check it out! read more

Ok first I have to say that I'm Persian. And Persian restaurants only use the best quality meats, so everyone else's meat dishes are lesser in comparison. Try Lavash in the sunset for a truly delicious kabob experience. That said, Mesopotamian is good for a casual weekly meal with counter service and plentiful seats. I usually get the Adana Kabob which is good and has generous sides. But what makes them really stand out is the delicious side dishes. I was pleasantly surprised by the meals we got from Mesopotamia. Everything was excellent from the soup to the sliced lamb beef, sliced chicken and falafel and gyros. The soup was totally different from any soup I've had before. It was chicken soup with chicken pieces, yogurt and lemon. Very refreshing! We also got the lamb beef gyro plate - couldn't taste the lamb but it was a delicious plate. The rice is very tasty and the salad was delicious. We also got a sliced chicken plate - very good. I'm not crazy about falafel but it taStes exactly like grounded garbanzo beans with zucchini Celery and parsley and onion. The gyros were thick! Too much bread for me but I will Air fry and slice. Ive found the pricing on vegetarian items to be disappointing for some veggies and hummus ( $17 before tax and grat ) but the owner took my feedback and edited the entree to include dolmas, which i found honest and professional. Excited to see a new spot open! Was good to see plenty of vegetarian options on the menu. The falafel and moussaka were delicious. Just the right amount of sauce on the moussaka and plenty of veggies with a generous filling of cheese. I also really enjoyed the rice it came with, fragrant and flavorful. The salad was fresh and delicious too, particularly the pickled beets. My husband ordered their combo gyro plate and felt that the meat was a bit dry and chewy. Recommend getting a few sides of tahini and hot sauce to go with the meal. Like another review mentioned, we said no to cutlery in our Doordash order but still got two sets of it, this should have been avoided. Please be more mindful of such waste. read more

Really great service and delicious food. We ordered a combo plate which I've never seen anywhere else - a chicken skewer and then a skewer of anything else you want. I love being able to mix and match, especially when sharing. You also ordered french fries and the server was kind enough let us know they would come first and was that OK. They did come first and they were really wonderful. No salt I think so you could really taste the potatoes. The highlight was the lamb kebab and the rice. The lamb was tender, but also chewy the way I like it. And the rice had an assortment of spices a little different from other kinds of rice we've in Middle Eastern restaurants. Overall I was not impressed. I stopped here for lunch after doing some shopping in the neighborhood. Huge fan of greek food! At Mesopotamia Kitchen you order inside at the counter and then sit down. The menu features mostly traditional Greek dishes that are geared toward fast casual and take out. They also have a selection of greek pastries on the counter (baklava and similar small sweets). My typical go to is moussaka or I'll get a gyro (sometimes a lamb burger if they have it). This time I got the moussaka. It was served with a side of pita, rice salad (just rice, not a salad) and a few greens. The moussaka portion was very small. It's deceiving as it's smothered in thick tomato sauce, but overall the portion was about 3x3" and maybe only ¾" thick. Typically moussaka is eggplant casserole made with baked or pan fried eggplants and potatoes, a rich, tomatoey beef or lamb mince sauce and topped off with a deliciously creamy bechamel sauce. This version tasted more like lasagna. No creamy sauce, very little beef, and overcooked eggplant. It also contained mozzarella cheese??!? The sauce was thick and oily (see photo) and was likely canned tomato sauce. I also ordered a side of hummus appetizer. It was good, but on the small side. The service needs some work. The cashier was friendly, but it might of been her first day. I asked "What does the moussaka come with?". She said "I don't know" and then turned to the menu for help. She started reading the ingredients of moussaka. What I was expecting her to say "it comes with some rice and salad and pita", I'd recommend adding a hummus appetizer if your hungry". Perhaps I just ordered the wrong items or came on an off day when the Italian chef was in the kitchen. read more

I was so excited to see this place has a puff gyro wrap. I love Döner Kebab in Germany, and this sounded similar. Unfortunately the bread wasn't quite right, and they don't have quite the same toppings as you can't get in Germany, but it's still an amazing sandwich in its own right. It took me a long time to check this place out. That might be surprising considering 1) I am middle eastern and 2) I live very close to the restaurant. Basically, I just never wanted to get my hopes up on the place. Finally tried it and I'm so happy that it's good that I'm compelled to write a review immediately. The gent working the register is a cool Turkish dude (which is why I decided to give the Iskander's plate a go) and as a bonus, also speaks Farsi. We got the chicken kebab, the combo gyro plate, Greek salad and Iskender plate. All of these were solid choices although I probably won't do the Greek salad again as it stood out the least. I'll probably try their shepherd salad which seems like a pretty close approximation of salad shirazi. The portions are big, the chicken and gyro were all tasty and the iskender plate was great. As a plus, they don't call this the Alexander Plate like some Turkish places do (the plate is supposedly named after Alexander the Great, but really, f@ck that guy). Noe Valley, this is our only Middle Eastern option and we're lucky that it's a good one. Please don't sleep on it like I did! read more

This place just replaced the Turkish place which replaced the Levant place...it's the Noe Valley kebaberia. So the menu is as one would expect except there's a "Puff Gyro" which is in effect a döner kebab...and what I ordered. It was pretty good! A lot of meat, has a yogurt sauce, and didn't have anything stupid like tomato slices. Comes with a small handful of fries too. Add a coke and tip and its about on par for lunch on 24th st.
