Do you ever do this thing? You're waiting for the 48 at the corner of 24th & Castro Streets in Noe Valley, and you want to eat, but you don't feel like The Little Chihuahua or Subs Inc. or that breakfast place that keeps changing its name, but the bus isn't coming for a while because it's a federal holiday and Muni is running a Sunday schedule even though it's a Tuesday, so you really feel like walking east on 24th because you're in the mood for a stroll and it's a holiday so people are out, but you're also unsure of where you'll find a nice and cheap enough place to eat, because Noe Valley is famous for replacing nice neighborhood restaurants and cafes with overpriced froufrou places that you'd never be caught dead in, so you debate and walk and walk and debate, and you're annoyed with yourself because you do this all the time, and why can't you just make a decision? Then you happen upon Mesopotamia Kitchen, and you order and sit down and enjoy your food, although it's overpriced and really really messy, but you predicted that, and you like it more and more as you continue your jaunt down 24th, literally, because the street is starting to go downhill, and you decide to walk all the way to the Mission because you've done this out of late-bus necessity before. You never do that? Lucky for you, because I do this kind of thing all the time, and it drives me crazy. Food is good, people are nice. Ambiance is on the meh side of fancy or the fancy side of meh; you be the judge. It's a nice place to eat on a carefree day off from work. Noe Valley usually disappoints, but when it surprises, it surprises well beyond expectations. Or at least my expectations, which for Noe Valley are woefully low.

This is a nice place for a casual bite in the neighborhood! I never tire of Mediterranean food options and this one is pretty good. Mesopotamia Kitchen has a small, simple interior with a few tables, self-serve water, and friendly service (the person behind the counter spoke Turkish, too!). Lamb Gyro Plate: This is a very substantial portion with lots of delicious crispy bits of meat. It came with a nice salad, rice pilaf, and hummus. Just a solid, balanced, and affordable meal. Falafel Wrap: I wish I got a better pic of this one, but it was really good. Full flavors and spice, plus it was not overly greasy. It comes with a perfectly serviceable side of french fries.

This is the most underrated stop in all of Noe! Highly recommend their chicken kebab plate and their falafel plate. The baba ghanoush is especially delicious with the falafel. The salads are super fresh and crispy, too, and love their pickled veg add ons - not just the typical after thought side salad; I actually eat it all. Their rice is so yummy and their chicken is juicy and not overcooked. They have dog and kid friendly outdoor seating (both covered and not covered). They also have a nice bathroom that's always clean. Staff is so friendly and kind and always remember me. They also do takeout! Give them a bit of time to prep your food; they make it to order and it's worth the wait for such a fresh taste. Highly, highly recommend this place.

The first look at this place wow the most amazing place amazing food. The salmon plate was so good. The man that gave us the food so nice. The menu was nice. The desserts look so good. and that's why I gave this place five stars . Noe Valley, San Francisco

3.5 stars Mesopotamia Kitchen in Noe Valley is a casual, cramped Turkish-style kebab restaurant with a menu of mezze, salads, wraps, and plates. The Appetizer Combo Plate came with a selection of mezzes including three crunchy falafels with tahini, watery hummus, chunky baba ghanoush, creamy tzatziki, and a unique carrot salad mixed with cream cheese. The dips went nicely with the warm grilled pita bread on the side, but the flavors were a bit lacking. A more memorable selection was the Shepherd's Salad, made of chopped cucumbers, tomato, onions, and parsley, along with juicy chunks of grilled chicken kebab. In general, the food here was just average, but the service was incredibly friendly, and this still made for a nice casual meal.

Ambiance is good, you can order for dine in or take out. For dine in, they bring it to your table. For take out, you can enjoy for lunch at the office. Friendly staff, delicious food, and good service. I ordered the Lamb Shish Kebab Plate It came with red cabbage and leafy greens, lamb, rice, and hummus. The pita bread, which came toasted complement the meal very well. For my drink, I ordered the Canada Dry Ginger Ale. A great refresher! Even as I enjoy this plate of Mediterranean cuisine, everything is beautifully plated. Perfect portion, so I like it. I like it, definitely will be back to try something else from the menu.

Visited this restaurant today for the second time . The first time I did not leave a review but my experience is the same . I ordered something as before . here's my take: they have a nice ambiance with both indoor and outdoor seating, and the staff was super professional. I ordered the babaganoish and combo gyro plate, but the service was a bit off - they brought both dishes at the same time, which didn't work for me. By the time I finished my appetizer, the main course was already cold. The portions were super small, especially considering the price point. I was expecting more for my money, especially since I've had bigger portions at other places for the same price. The chicken was a bit dry and salty, which wasn't great. Also, the plate should've come with bread, and the babaganoush should've had its own bread - they only brought one bread portion. Despite all this, I'm willing to give it another shot and try something else, so I'll update my review after that. Maybe it's just me, but definitely won't be rushing back for the portions or the chicken again.

    The entrance rug

If you are looking for kindness and not rudeness - this may not be the place. Don't understand why they can't clean or purchase a new rug that is pretty nasty. Food is okay - but attitude - please!

    Lamb Beef Gyro Wrap

Fast casual mediterranean spot in Noe Valley! I had the lamb beef gyro wrap which came wrapped in lavash with some lettuce, tomato, and red onion inside. The wrap looks skinny but goes a long way! I was completely stuffed afterwards. I did wish there was a little more complexity in flavor - it was all pretty salty and I was looking for something acidic to cut the saltiness. I squeezed some of the lemon from the dolmas plate to make up for it. I also wish there was more veg in the wrap for extra freshness. The dolmas were a little pricey for an order of 4. They also had a slight alcoholic taste? The aftertaste and filling were both great, but the initial bite was slightly off. I probably wouldn't get these again. I'm curious to come back and try the vegetarian gyro wrap though! I also liked being able to order at the counter and have the food ready within ~10 mins. If I'm ever craving mediterranean food in Noe again, I would stop by here.

Combo Gyro Wrap - Lamb-Beef and Chicken Gyro with Garlic Sauce, Salad, and Tahini Sauce wrapped in Lavash Bread

For the longest time, I always had the impression that Noe Valley was one of the tougher neighborhoods in SF to find a parking space. So, when one of my friends moved out here, I always felt relieved when he would suggest meeting up elsewhere in the city. What little did I know, though - finding a spot around here is actually super easy (at night, anyways). Which, ironically enough, makes me regret not offering to come out here instead. If I had, then I would've discovered Mesopotamia Kitchen that much earlier! Admittedly, from the outside, there wasn't much about this place that grabbed my attention. However, after hearing about how it quickly became one of my buddy's go-to eateries, I was immediately intrigued. After taking a look at their extensive menu board inside, I could see why! Despite how the majority of the menu isn't especially unique, there's no shortage of enticing options to choose from - wraps, plates, mussaka, dolmas, shakshuka, spanakopita, salads, soups, desserts, and so much more. Plus, they have a good mix of proteins to choose from too, whether it be your usual sort of beef, lamb, and chicken gyros and kebabs to kofte kebab, adana kebab, or iskender kebab. -- COMBO GYRO WRAP - Lamb-Beef and Chicken Gyro with Garlic Sauce, Salad, and Tahini Sauce wrapped in Lavash Bread...$13.95 As good as this looked, the taste was just okay. The portion was great (fries are included!), but the gyros were a miss for me. Despite how moist both gyros meats were, the marinade they use had an aftertaste to it. Still, it wasn't awful, though, and I really like the fries and how fresh the veggies were. -- COMBO SHISH KEBAB - Chicken Kebab and Lamb Kebab with Rice, Salad, Hummus, and Pita...$18.95 I don't always have the best luck with kebabs, but this was terrific! While the chicken was perfectly fine (it had a light char), I thought the lamb was terrific - it was so tender! It was also a pleasant surprise to get a bit of hummus and pita bread (we debated on splitting an order). -- FALAFEL SIDE (3 Pieces) - Grounded and Deep Fried Garbanzo Beans with Zucchini, Celery, Parsley, and Onion...$4.95 You can also get this with five or seven pieces, but regardless, these were so good! Each piece was fried to the perfect crispiness and I liked how soft the inside was. Plus, the consistency wasn't chunky either. -- KOFTE WRAP - Grilled Ground Lamb and Beef Patties with Garlic Sauce, Salad, and Tahini Sauce wrapped in Lavash Bread...$13.95 This was far more successful than the combo gyro wrap - the kofte was so juicy and flavorful! What's more, the seasoning in the kofte was soaked up by the lavash and nicely balanced out by the veggies. Delish! -- SALMON PLATE - Flavored Grilled Salmon Served with Rice, Salad, Hummus, and Pita...$20.95 Even though the color/look of the salmon seemed really pale, this was pretty solid. It was grilled nicely and the center was moist, but I have to admit the deliciously complementary flavors form the lemon and herb sauce really boosted this dish. Also, while I obviously didn't expect service to be bad, I also didn't necessarily expect the workers to be so friendly either! In particular, the woman (owner?) that works the register is ridiculously nice. She warmly greets everyone that walks in and she's really attentive, always keeping an eye out for what folks might need (even the ones sitting outside in their parklet). Between that and how solid the food is, Mesopotamia Kitchen has worked its way into my rotation of go-to eateries as well! That is, so long as parking stays just as easy as it does now...ha!

You can't go wrong with Mesopotamia Kitchen! My go-tos are the lamb gyro plate, chicken gyro plate, and köfte plate--always fresh, flavorful, and made right in front of you. Their fries are crisp and fresh, desserts are delicious and well-priced, and the whole place is spotless. Service is quick, the food is consistently on point, and the staff are always kind, patient, and accommodating--even when it's busy. Highly recommend!

There was complimentary bread which was insanely good and fluffy and warm plus tahini and an onion tomato sauce I think along with radishes and olives. We are not olive ppl sadly but I tried one and it was pretty okay. The service was great and all the servers were super attentive and accommodating. The Stuffed falafel was so good and huge 1 is enough for 2 people. The mosabaha was very refreshing and so good. The meat combo was good overall and everything was very herbally spiced, I wasn't impressed by the lamb tho but the kebab, hummus, and chicken were great! I haven't had Mousakhan before so not sure how it should taste but to me it was sweet and savory with really well cooked chicken. I honestly felt pretty healthy overall cause I was eating hella veggies and everything tasted so fresh. The kunafa was good we got it crispy and was yummy imo but was a lil oily (I think this is normal tho). Arab food isn't really spicy but it is spiced and very herbal which I felt in the food here, I appreciate that chili sauce is provided for the spice lovers. Overall, would highly recommend. It was about $100ish for everything and they recently increased their prices but tbh the portion sizes are huge and I feel like it is so worth it we had hella leftovers. If we had 4 ppl instead of 2 it would've been perfect portions for everyone.

The rice was perfect: real longer grained basmati, delicately spiced, with hints a saffron. I loved the roasted tomato, raw onions, cilantro, & mint leaves. Of course plenty of lavash. Easily a 4.5. I'd give a 5, but my wife said her chicken was a little dry. Still tasty, especially with her rice that had raisins, dates, & lentils. Maybe nit picking, but overall good. The Napoleon with a scoop of raspberry ice cream was excellent. This Napoleon wasn't so creamy, but more about layers of cake. More complex than the usual variant. I'm a fan. Falafel wrap and chicken shawarma are our usual order -- the falafel has that crisp-shell, tender-middle thing going, and the wraps are generously built. I booked our table about a month in advance, which turned out to be the right move because the restaurant was bustling during the lunch hour. To start, we ordered four small plates to share among our party of four: meatballs, saganaki, spanakotiropita, and a pair of dips (melitzanosolata and favasalata) with pita. Everything was excellent, and our spread was inclusive of a wide variety of flavors and textures: salty, creamy, acidic, sweet, crunchy. The meatballs and the dips are definitely a must-order and are ideal for sharing. The spanakotiropita were larger and more filling than expected, so if I were to order those again, I'd dial it back and stick with small plates rather than a full-sized entree. The saganaki was a showstopper; it is served sizzling and crackling on a cast iron dish and had a nice salty flavor that allowed the cheese to be served on its own. For my main dish, I ordered the braised goat - which is not something I'd typically order because goat meat is usually tough - but I was intrigued how it was prepared as a stew. The dish almost reminded me of a Moroccan tagine - the goat was braised to peak tenderness and bathed in a slightly fruity and well-spiced sauce; dotted with pieces of melted feta; and served on top of a bed of baked orzo, which was served fresh-from-the oven in a mini cast iron dish. I was so full after our meal that I had to walk it off for a few blocks, but I cannot wait for our next special occasion so we can come back and celebrate with another feast at Kokkari Estiatorio.

Yes, it's a somewhat expensive dining experience but you are paying for top notch service and great quality food. I am not talking about these cheap midnight specials in Las Vegas. This is type of food where you take your time eating to savor your food to taste the silky texture of the meat or let the sauce soak into the octopus appetizer to soften it and tastes good. I would have ordered a salad but with the health scare of salads recall made me hesitant to order any, although the specials sounded great! You can still cannot go wrong as every dish was great experience and great execution. Love the melted cheeses in appetizer and custard in dessert with pistachio ice cream! The meats really shined as we asked for medium rare and both steak and lamb chops cooked perfectly. Would I go back? , oh yeah and splurge on this place for sure. It just felt special to me. That flourless cake by kitchen I was debating should I take the whole thing and run? lol Restroom is a maze I do must say as you take an elevator one level down.

It's a pick your protein and pick your style. I usually get the chicken wrap. But occasionally get the salad with chicken. Their hot sauce is delicious too! We often grab it to go and eat it up the hill in Alamo Square for a lunch with a great view on a nice day. Souvla offers very tasty food with good ingredients prepared faithfully time after time. It's an easy go-to choice for me and my wife on a sunny weekend day.

I have mixed feelings about Souvla, like maybe I ordered the wrong thing? I had the chicken sandwich: It lacked flavor, puzzling since it has bold flavors of fennel, pickled onions and orange. The chicken was finely shredded and plentiful, it just had no taste and it was dry. My son loved his lamb gyro which disappeared in an instant (his big eyes signaled he wanted my sandwich too- I handed it over.) The fries with Greek cheese were great and still hot when we arrived home. The frozen yogurt with olive oil and salt was pucker-your-mouth delicious. Next time we'll dine al fresco and kick back and people watch - and I'll pick something new off the menu. Service could not have been friendlier and food prep, fast! And PS the takeout boxes are really pretty.

I'm generally pretty indifferent about mediterranean food, but this place really impressed me!…read more Every dish I tried had amazing flavors, and everything was prepared perfectly. We started off with the hummus and the moussaka (eggplant and tomato sauce). The hummus was pretty standard, but still great, and the moussaka was SO delicious. This was definitely the standout dish to me, and I'd hiiiighly recommend it. For mains, I was doing Meatless Monday, so I got the super falafel wrap. This wrap was also sooo delicious and massive! The falafel was really flavorful, and all the toppings and tahini sauce were just perfect additions. The restaurant itself is really pleasant and bright, great for pretty much any occasion. Service was also good (you order via QR code, but they bring the food out to you) and prices are reasonable given the quality and portion size. Definitely a new fav spot in SF!

The tables in this establishment are pretty small if you come as a party of two, and that's the part that I've been struggling with because there's nowhere for me to hang my purse usually whenever we're sitting there, and the chairs are metal, so the straps tend to slide off and I just have to end up holding my bag. I've tried their plate and wraps but I'm not blown away by the flavor profiles. The service is okay. You are seated upon entering, but you order through a QR code yourself and then that they just bring out the meal to you.

The service was friendly and welcoming even when our party came at different times. The restaurant wasn't busy given it was a Monday evening, so you would think it would go smoothly. *** OUR PICKS *** COMBO APPETIZER PLATTER ~ hummus, baba ghanouj, haydari, ezme, dolmas, merimek, falafel ~ parts of the platter were cold while the falafel was warm, but they topped it off with a sauce that didn't keep the falafel crispy, instead it softened it. I think the sauce should have been on the side. The rest of the dish was good. 4/5 LAMB KEBAB PLATE ~ this was my dish. I touched my skewers thinking they were going to be hot, but it was surprisingly cold. I'm not sure why skewers would be cold when the food should be hot right off the grill. The lamb was cooked medium rare as I requested, though there was little to no seasoning. So it was kind of gamey and tasteless 3/5 RACK OF LAMB PLATE ~ my partner chose this dish. The lamb was also very light in seasoning. The pistachio rice was interesting and nutty. Asparagus was good. 3.5/5 MIXED GRILL PLATE ~ our friend enjoyed this dish. Maybe a mixed grill is the way to go and some meats cooked and seasoned better than others. 4/5 BEEF KEBAB PLATE ~ the beef was also room temperature and lightly seasoned. 3.5/5 SALMON ~ I tried some of this and it was decent. 4/5 BAKLAVA & CHOCOLATE MOUSSE CAKE ~ Nice birthday surprise and a sweet way to end the meal. Baklava wasn't as crispy or flaky as some I've had, but the honey-pistachio nuts were good. Chocolate mousse cake was decadent and moist. 4/5 Beautiful presentation on the plating of our food, though the timing for the food wasn't quite right as a few plates were served room temperature and not hot. However, the surprise desserts were a nice touch in helping us celebrate a birthday!
