Affordable and pretty quick to table breakfast. All the veggies in my omelet tasted quite fresh, and it is definitely a generous plate for the 10 bucks or whatever it was. I liked it. Grits tasted like they actually spend some time making them and don't come from a package that says "instant" on it. It is what it is, diner is in the name. Menu isn't that big but it should have something for you whether you want to have a breakfast that makes you take a nap after or just something light. It is not a SUNDAY FUNDAY WITH THE GIRLS XD brunch place, and it doesn't want to be. Understandable having dealt with those crowds plenty in my lifetime. I would go back, likely will. read more

First timer here and totally impressed. I heard it was a chain but didn't feel like it We got great service and I got the breakfast burger. What a huge sandwich. I was worried about going to Metro Diner, they are not known for their healthy options - but this visit changed my mind. They have an extensive menu and I'd have to say a good portion of it is well beyond my daily calorie count....but did find a black bean wrap that was not only delicious, huge, and shareable, but a healthy option as well. My friend was able to ask for menu accommodations and the waitress did not bat an eye. We were thankful for that.... As I mentioned, the menu is extensive and you can order from any portion of it, no matter the time of day. So, if you are not a breakfast food kind of person, no worries, get one of the burgers or one of the other meals that may appeal to you. Metro Diner is nice. It's located in a busy shopping plaza. They text you when your table is ready--if the wait is too long, you can spend some time in the neighboring stores without worrying about losing your place in line. Inside is smaller than it looks from the outside. The place is packed with booths and tables. Specials are written on a chalkboard on the back wall. They have $3 mimosas and Bloody Mary's all day, every day! Our waitress was nice and as attentive as she could be--it was pretty busy. Orders are taken on a tablet which leaves less room for error. I ordered a waffle with strawberries and whip cream on the side with a side of bacon. My boyfriend ordered biscuits and gravy with bacon, eggs, and grits. Our food came fairly quickly. Everything was hot and delicious. The strawberries tasted fresh--I hate when places use still frozen/cold fruit. The manager walked down the aisles asking about the service--which was a great touch. Let me tell you what I love: Chicken and Waffles featuring strawberry butter (made fresh) and sweet & spicy dip and the croissant French toast. Yes, a freshly-baked croissant cut open and covered in the eggy mixture and cooked to perfection on the griddle. Other items on our table that my friends got: fried chicken dinner, chicken parm, and the tomato bisque. It was all amazing. Don't skip over a side of bacon, the strawberry butter, or the sweet and hot dipping sauce. These are all amazing. The restaurant is clean and it's an open kitchen concept. The two friends I was with ordered the eggs and typical breakfast - it was really fresh and tasted really good. I ordered the croissant french toast and lord, was that a lot to eat. you definitely get a lot of bang for your buck. It's four pieces which are HUGE- I could barely eat it! This was my first time here and was impressed! All the food came out hot and very quickly. My husband had the shrimp Alfredo special with garlic bread. I had the chicken and waffles. This to me was slightly better than an IHOP. I did enjoy sitting at the diner/bar area because it was fun watching the kitchen crew work so efficiently. It was clear that they've all worked together plenty of times before. I also never knew how much butter went into browning hash browns... I ordered the avocado toast with two eggs and the boyfriend ordered the biscuit and gravy meal. Everything was just average and seemed to be pre-made, except the biscuits. Not really my thing to watch them open bag after bag of frozen hash browns and unwrap Thomas' English Muffins. 3 stars because the staff was nice and everything came out very quickly. Yes, I know I ordered avocado toast at a diner, but everything else was too heavy. I will say if you do decide to get the A.T. then expect 2 thick pieces of bread with a lot of avocado! read more

Hubs and I have been coming here more frequently lately, especially during the rainy weather, because, well it's a diner with cozy booths and comfort food. I haven't something here that I didn't like. All of their sides are great and sometimes I just order those. A dessert we had recently was the bread pudding made in house- delicious and definitely can split between 2 people. Also their fruity flavored teas are lit. I am down here in the South Carolina area vacationing from Massachusetts and have been trying different eateries in the area. I decided to check out the Metro Diner here. I was not disappointed at all. My server Alani was excellent, she just knew the right time to approach you for anything else and not over killing you with service. And I observed other servers and how they all engaged in customer interaction. If you stopped any server coming by you for something, you did not get a response like "I will get your server for you". They helped you! And when your server asked you if you needed anything else and you said "Yes" they got it for you very quickly even if they had other customers to deal with. The food was great and nicely placed on your plate. It seemed staff working there were very happy. They talking and smiling with customers and each other. They really cleaned up after you were finished, even picking up the items dropped on the floor underneath the tables, you don't see that too often in eateries. The servers would clean up their tables, then another staff would come by and do a second wipe down on. And it seemed any staff walking by an empty table would give it a observation check to make sure everything was in order for the next customer. I will surely be back again. Charlie B. Decided to check out the new metro diner here in Charleston. It was pretty much what I expected. Similar to a Denny's, but better quality. Just similar to a Denny's in the diner type atmosphere, and menu selections. The staff were very friendly, and the service pretty good. They have a nice selection to choose from. I started with the baked potato soup. It tasted just like a baked potato in a bowl. Thick, chunky, potato soul with cheese, bacon, and green onions. Came out hot and had a lot of flavor. I then had the meatloaf. It's apparently what the diner is known for. It's not your standard chunk of meatloaf, but more so, two slices. They have a nice crust on them because they are pan fried after being sliced. So a nice texture on the outside, and moist on the inside. Lots of flavor as well. It came with mashed potatoes and veggies, however I opted to swap out the veg, for coleslaw. The coleslaw was slightly bland, but still good. Maybe a little more dressing would've helped. The mashed potatoes were great. Creamy, and plentiful. It came with a gravy on the potatoes and the meatloaf. It really was great meatloaf! Anyone on the fence about trying the metro diner, definitely give it a try, and come hungry! read more

So finally my Metro Diner review... It has taken me about 9 visits to get to this point... so that should be a hint. I will say this. Metro has overtaken Early Bird in my opinion as the best diner in West Ashley. Good selection, and $3 MIMOSAS! All day, every day. Overall, I rate it 3.75*s, only because the consistency of service has not been... consistent. If you get David as your server, consider yourself lucky, because in a month and a half, he has been the best server that I have had over there. I have done breakfast, lunch, dinner, take out dinner, takeout lunch, and take out breakfast. Food quality has always been great. Try the Huevos Rancheros, and if they have it, the Yo Halla on the Square. (The main reason for a half a * deduction. I am used to the Jax locations where the full menu is available.) The management works hard to get the things right, and the staff overall can be seen busting their butts to get things out. I only wish that on Fri/Sat nights that they could stay open a little later... maybe midnight? read more

Good for a chain diner. Breakfast was consistently busy with a full inside and outside waiting area. I enjoyed that there was a self serve coffee station while waiting. Once seated, we were greeted quickly and a drink order placed. Both me and my friend ordered at the same time, but my friends order came and mine took a long while more. I tried the special from the board. Stuffed pumpkin waffles. The waffle itself was tasty. It was stuffed with fluffy pumpkin cream cheese which was good but there was a bit too much, so if I ordered this again I would order that part on the side. I was full and service was good but overall I didn't feel like it was excellent or even above average. I will try again for lunch or dinner maybe. read more

We are always excited to try a new restaurant in West Ashley, even a chain. We gave this one a go and, well, "nothing to write home about" comes to mind. Everything was just OK - nothing grand and nothing gross (except that a lot of employees were smoking just outside of both doors, when we left the area around the restaurant stank like old cigarettes, that was gross). As one of the other reviewers mentioned, there were A LOT of folks working during our visit, most likely training and helping to open the establishment. Even with so many employees, we still had to wait a lot for service needs and our server was infrequently available. Maybe too many cooks in the kitchen? We had a club sandwich and fries - again, it was OK, minus the unripe tomatoes. Nothing especially offensive, nothing special. The kid version of chicken tenders was OK as well. One plus - the kids' menu coloring and games met with approval! Oh, and the Easter Bunny was there for a little entertainment. We might visit again to see whether service improves and whether the items have more interesting flavor. read more

For me the portion was just right, probably could have had more to it, but the side toast makes it just enough food. Honestly I like the can version (i know I know don't judge me) of CBH lol, but this was good too. Our table of five ordered a variety, and no complaints. Plenty of seating, but we got there before the lunch crowd. The parking sucks. That shopping center has blown up with Harris Teeter coming in, and it's just confusing.
