This place should have closed on black Friday because they could not support any amount of people. They stated it would be a 20 minute wait. Which is fine but after you sit and they took your order it was an hour + to get food (some food even had a 2 hour wait time?) The wait staff seem to be confused and food piled under the heat lamp for 15 minutes as no runners took out the Food. We we visited months ago it seemd to be managed pretty good. Aside from the fact I ordered my food to go and didn't check it and they left my fried egg out of my crab cake Benedict, it was delightful. The hollandaise sauce was perfection, three crab cake perfectly seasoned, and it was a wonderfully generous portion for the price. My boyfriend also really enjoyed his. He was full, but couldn't stop eating it and finished it in one sitting which rarely happens. The place was definitely very crowded, staff was a little stressed, but courteous, and it took a while for them to figure out who was supposed to be taking my order, but I cannot wait to go back! Food was just ok for the price. Service was a little slow but my server was nice. I ate there for lunch during the weekday and it was pretty busy although I did not have to wait for a table for one. We went in on a Saturday morning around 10 am, with a party of 10 and were sat within a few minutes of giving our name. Shannon was our server and got our food out super quick (like 15 minutes). Managers came and checked on us and everyone was super attentive. Chicken and waffles are a must try, and we tried the omelette of the day with crab in it that was delicious. If you're looking for an excellent quality restaurant with great service and atmosphere, this is the place to go. Extra note: not sure where all these bad reviews are coming from because everything went off without a hitch for us. Literally one of the best restaurants we've ever been to. read more

Took 2.5 hours to eat on a Sunday afternoon and after the manager was alerted to our poor service, offered us a free dessert...after we had just eaten two brekafast orders and an order of pancakes. I lived in Jacksonville, FL for 9 years...the home of the original Metro Diner so my expectations were that this location would be comparable. It is not up to par with Metro standards and I have given it many chances. Long wait for food, food served cold, forgotten parts of an order. I've sat at the bar and watched the food being prepared and the kitchen staff just can't seem to get it together. Very chaotic and inefficient. They need to take a visit to the original in Jax and learn how it is done. The kitchens at the Jax locations run like well-oiled machines. I really hope the Columbus location can get their act together and raise their standards. I really want to love it as much as I did in Jax. Please improve! read more

Well I guess it's normal to wait over 58 minutes to have your breakfast served after the order was taken. Not a good wait time when you need to take meds 30 minutes prior to a meal. I realize it was busy for a Friday. But we are talking only a party of 3 for breakfast. The waitresses were apologetic for the excessive wait. Overall the western omelette, toast & grits was mediocre. The wife noted the hash browns were good with her scramble. It's amazing to see so many good reviews opposed to negative ones, and as much as I'd like to add to the raves, today will not be one of those days. New staff perhaps? Whatever the case, this was my first time dining here and I expected so much since there was a 45 min wait this past weekend. Rather than stay my husband and I decided to leave and return on a not so busy day. The grits were great during our visit. My husbands chicken looked dark like a second more and it would have been burned. His waffles were light and fluffy. My hash browns were hard and burned to a crisp. They tasted like they had been set on fire. The waitress said that the cooks had begun to cook them that way because regulars preferred them that way (I wish she had asked me before assuming); they had no seasoning so they were very bland. My omelette wasn't good either and the biscuit was just as dark as my husband's chicken. I decided to not continue to make myself eat such a disappointing breakfast. We paid the $35 bill and left. Well it started with the nicest hostess. She was pleasant and funny. I asked for a table for one person, she asked if I would like to sit at the bar. I said sure. I waited about 5 minutes, then a seat cleared. I waited looking at the menu. Then my friendly server sat next to me to take my order. What I wanted they didn't have the sliced avocado so I changed to a House favorite. She bought me coffee and juice, then waited for my order. When it came the visual it looked horrible, one of the poached eggs looked absolutely disgusting. The other poached eggs had burst making the meal soggy. I immediately asked what is wrong with this egg. The lady who bought it over knew something was wrong with it before she placed it in front of me, then why would you serve your "house special" looking like that. Seriously? The asked for two replacement eggs, I only got one and they never replaced the it. They were going to attempt to replace the whole order but it took to long and I don't trust people with replacement food. I told the server never mind. Please bring me my check, she took off the drinks to make up for half the order I didn't eat. I am very disappointed in this. You only have one time to make a first impression! You blew it Metro Diner. It looked as if I would have been a great experience, I guess it wasn't meant to be for me. Won't be returning. read more

Such a disappointing experience. Waited for a server to finally come to the table. I ordered chicken and waffles and was aware it takes time to cook but by the time they actually brought out my food my partner was done with theirs and to top it off my chicken was burnt. We had to wait for the server to even come check on us to discuss the issue. They offered to remake it and after another 20+ minutes of waiting again and my chicken was raw in the middle. First off, you know you're in the right place when almost every table has a mimosa or more than one on it. I started with a mimosa & I was offered water along side without even asking. Good call from our server! My Fried Chicken Benedict was sublime! When I say it was beyond delicious, I'm not exaggerating. The eggs were perfectly poached and yummy. I ordered home fries instead of hash browns and they were super crispy on the outside, but soft on the inside just like I asked for. We came in hungry, so we asked for a couple of biscuits while we were waiting. They were crispy on the outside and very tender on the inside. My husband had the corned beef hash & eggs. He was very happy with his meal too. My daughter opted for the kid's chicken tenders & fries. She ate the chicken tenders so fast, we almost missed it. We got ranch on the side & I could tell it was scratch. I'm extremely picky about ranch. The service from our server, Sharon, was extraordinary. She truly understands customer service. I went to the diner because I have heard it was so good. I got there at 715 am(they open at 7) ordered unsweet tea and was told it would be 15 to 20 minutes for unsweet to be ready. If you open at 7 have everything ready to open at 7 , not 730. I then ordered a philly cheese steak, I watched as the cook pulled out two flat pieces of Steakums, you can buy a whole box of them for 5$ at publix, and then it had no flavor or seasoning and very little cheese. I can't help but wonder if they chose to use such a Cheap, frozen sheet of whatever they want to call it, what are the burgers made of or the rest of the food for that matter. Either the tv show ran out of places to do a show about or the show got paid a lot of money. The diner is not worthy of being on tv or bragging about it. Columbus is not a forgiving town when it comes to eateries, ask Fudruckers. read more

The only thing keeping this from a higher review is the coffee. It's ok, but not great. The chicken and waffles are good, the white meat was moist. I'm a big guy and the half plate was more than enough. The huevos my wife got were a good take on the classic. I've heard a lot of good things about the metro city diner so my family and I went in for lunch today. The decor is great, but there's not much space, and was very busy (understandable for lunch) we were seated within 15 minuets, and got our drink pretty quickly. Not too big of a menu but not bad either. With all the people and the shouting from the kitchen is was impossible to talk without yelling. And a crying baby behind us, not the parents fault but when it goes on for 30 minuets it's getting kind of ridiculous. Took about 20 Min for food, also reasonable, my grandma's fish and chips was disappointing and not crunchy on the outside like you'd expect, my sisters chicken tenders as well, I tried the blackened tenders and wasent impressed and all of our friends were limp like fries after they've been in a styrofoam container yknow limp and soggy, So altogether not terrible but not impressive either, probably not going back read more
