What a busy little place. We were greeted when we walked in. Thought we would have to wait, but only for a moment. The girl seated us and told us the chalkboard was the specials and they server breakfast lunch and dinner all day long. And the board changes daily. I tried the breakfast pie which was scrambled egg,mushrooms onions,peppers and lots of cheese with with cubes of red potatoes And shredded potatoes on the side. Hubby got a half order of biscuits and gravy he loved them. Eggs and shredded potatoes. They have flavored drinks of the day I got peach tea. My friends and I had agreed on dining at this Metro Diner location. Our lunch was exquisite, yesterday afternoon. I had ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich Meal. My other two friends had ordered the Fried Chicken Tenders Meal, and the Chicken Parmesan Sandwich Meal. We were extremely pleased with our visit. The food portions were extremely generous, as well as fresh and delicious. The beverages were delicious as well. They have a great reputation for rotating their Soda Machine when the time comes. The prices for what we got was reasonable. Our Waitress was very friendly, punctual, accurate, knowledgeable, and had a great personality. We will definitely be visiting again soon! read more

It's one new found treasure tucked in a corner of a small retail strip. We drove past for some time thinking we should give it a try. Now we ask ourselves what took us so long? Usually busy because they are so good and offer a wide variety of food. Husband craves breakfast more than I do, so it is awesome that I can order anything off the menu, any time. I don't have favorites, everything I have tried is good. I have never been disappointed. The staff is very friendly and very good at what they do. Daniel does a wonderful job of keeping tables clean so customers that are waiting can be seated quickly and he puts a smile on our faces every time we visit. The only thing I would change is the stool seating at the counter. The seats are secured to the floor so can't be moved, and sit far back from counter, so difficult to be comfortable in them. We've been to Metro Diner twice, but had the same meal. The chicken and waffles are excellent. The strawberry butter that comes on the waffles is unique and delicious. We didn't care for the hot and spicy sauce that comes on the side. The service was terrific both times. read more

Food is good but most people want a clean place to eat and this place is not it. You walk in tables after table that was filthy and not cleaned. You have the waitress writing on the board erasing with her hands and then picking up food to put onto the table and she never washed her hands. This is sad as there are already a shortage of good diner restaurants on the south side of Indy. read more

We stopped here for breakfast since they have outdoor seating. My avocado toast was good with a generous amount of avocado. My husband had the oatmeal breakfast and biscuits which was also good. Our waitress was friendly, but her service was extremely slow. We waited a long time before we saw our waitress and an even longer time after we finished eating to get our bill and to receive our credit card back. Our food came before we got our coffee. We wanted something different for lunch and the Metro Diner sounded good. It smelled amazing when we walked in! We were immediately seated and Jennifer greeted us and took our beverage order. When she returned I asked if we could move outside, it was very chilly inside. There was a table available and it was not a problem at all, we were quickly moved outside. Jennifer took our food order and we were both amazed at how quickly our food came out. Hubby got the tenderloin, it's served on two pieces of Texas toast and definitely meets the size standard for an Indiana tenderloin. Chicken Salad Melt was listed on the board on the wall (specials apparently because it wasn't on the menu) and it intrigued me. It's an open face chicken salad (pecans, grapes, celery) served on white toast with a tomato slice and provolone cheese. It was delicious! I wasn't sure what to think of a chicken salad served warm, but I would order it again! Jennifer was very attentive during our meal, drinks stayed full and she had perfect timing with boxes (portions are huge!) and the bill. We will return! read more

LOVED this place, the hostess was sweet, our server was on top of refills and very accommodating for our baby. Another server who wasn't ours noticed our fussy baby and offered our baby a biscuit in addition to the crackers our server already brought us without even having to ask. The food came out hot and fresh. My husband got the chicken and waffles and loved the chicken, the waffles weren't his favorite. The burger my husband ordered was delicious, which warrants my 3 star review. The rest of the experience food-wise was super disappointing. I ordered the crab cakes benedict, and the eggs were hard boiled when I cut into them! Once I finally got my waitress over to tell her half my food was eaten. 10 minutes later when she brought the poached eggs I had completely finished my meal. The hollandaise sauce was kinda odd too, and sparse since the hard boiled eggs were covered with it. I probably won't be back for breakfast anytime soon. I am an early morning person so I make my way to that which I know best.... The small neighborhood diner. It's everything it advertises and the staff is great. I had been there in the winter months and passed thru there in the early spring. I am waiting to get a chance on the patio with my little side kick. I like simple but spicy breakfasts and I am the kind that is patient enough to wait for the good stuff. I sat near the food exit where wait staff picks up for delivery and they didn't miss a single beat. There was a little preceptorship going on as well. But my love is cooking and so from where I sat I was able to watch the boys at the grill. I focused in immediately on there team work and anticipation from the voice calling out for orders and set up...It was a well oiled machine. The cooks stayed just ahead enough to keep the line moving without wasting and kept their stations cleaned up. Always good to know how it goes behind the lines. read more

I wish I could find something positive to say about my experience, but alas, I cannot. The service was inattentive, and I was surprised at the limited menu, but I wanted pancakes, anyway. Unfortunately, the pancakes had the consistency of rubber. I'm sure I could have stretched them into an umbrella and stayed completely dry. I do not recommend using the bathroom at Metro Diner unless you have a strong stomach or unless you mind standing in the accumulated pee of untold others. Come on management, if you can't keep the bathrooms clean what does it say about your commitment to cleanliness in the kitchen. First time visiting this location of Metro Diner. I was highly satisfied. Arrived at 11am on Sunday and unfortunately had to wait for a table but when you're with good friends, who minds the wait?? We were told 25-30 minutes and that was about how long we waited. I ordered my go to: avocado veggie wrap. As always, it was filling and delicious. I took half of it home! I also tried the salad as my side and it was also very good. Lots of veggies and a hard boiled egg! Didn't get a picture of my meal as my salad came out first, but I got a pic of half my wrap in the to-go box. My husband and I came here in a suggestion from my sister. She loves the breakfast! All portions are substantial and most people would leave with leftovers. I ordered the Shepherds Pie with a Salad. The Shepherds Pie was good. I'm not a huge fan of tomato based sauce in mine, but was still very good. Those crispy they put on the Salad were a perfect addition and the egg. I went on a Saturday morning and had no problem getting in, I've heard that's not the case for Sunday's, so I would suggest Saturdays. They had mimosas, beer and wine available making it a nice little brunch place. My meal came out in a reasonable amount of time and was delicious! I got the San Fransisco Eggs Benedict and it was really good. My service was really good but again the place was almost empty. I went to this location about a year ago. (I thought I left a review but it must have not stuck) this place.. it's eh. It's ok. It reminded me of a Mom and Pop shop, meets seaside, meets hipster joint. It did not feel like a diner. The only thing that felt like a diner was the awesome green and white floor. There was plenty to choose from to eat (sandwiches, meat loaf, soups, etc) which all sounds good, but when I asked to substitute something they said no. Technically, the waitress did not the owner or kitchen so I just want to get that part clear :) this is not about the owner you can tell he's worked hard for this restaurant. Anyway, Nothing is more annoying when I can't customize my meal, and I'm not even a picky eater. So I started a bit frustrated. I ordered a philly cheese steak sandwich.. dry.. because I couldn't substitute a sandwich sauce on it.. potato salad and French fries. Let's just say I left hungry. We were promptly seated and our waitress arrived shortly after and gave us the low down on the menu and specials since it was our first visit. (The specials rule!) She was very friendly and sweet! I got the chicken and waffles and when it arrived it was a plate of beauty! My boyfriend had the country fried steak special and loved it! My waffles were perfect and the jam spread on top was amazing, the chicken was juicy and tender and the house sweet and spicy sauce was delicious. Huge portions! I had the same issue as another review! Inconsistent with their food! I used to love their Broccoli and cheddar soup as I am getting my bite two days ago it tasted like straight flour. I let our waitress know and they took it off our bill but I was very disappointed! So I sat and ate my English muffin with jelly! Oh well I guess better luck next time !
