I feel like once this place becomes more popular (which I have no doubt it will), there might be some wait time but it will be worth it! The breakfast menu is substantial, basically anything you could ever want from breakfast. I didn't try any of the lunch/dinner options but just reading the descriptions has me wanting to go back again this week just to try. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros. Looking for an excuse to eat nachos for breakfast? Here it is! The portion sizes are huge. I reiterate, HUGE! Next time I'll probably share with someone. The eggs come sitting on top of super delicious, crispy (and again, huge) tortilla chips. Chorizo, black beans, jalapeños, salsa, and sour cream also get piled high onto the dish. Loved it. Wish I could have eaten it all. My friend ordered the famous Chicken and Waffles. YOU GUYS: the strawberry butter that comes on the waffles tastes like strawberry ice cream. There are fresh chunks of strawberries in it. I could not stop stealing it off of his plate. The chicken was great, classic fried chicken. They were both very tasty. The crust was a flattened biscuit. Each bite had a different taste. The portions are very large and the wait staff was very helpful and prompt. Six weeks after my first visit to Metro Diner, I returned to see if maybe the highly praised new restaurant in Central Indiana could snag that fifth star. Nope. I tried. I really did. There's simply no way I could leave my dining experience tonight and not knock the rating down another star. I'll avoid all the particulars about Metro as I covered that in my original review. I arrived right about 5pm - there was a modest crowd, but it seems the significant overcrowding has largely subsided in favor of a more manageable and tolerable experience. Fortunately, I was not seated in that first spot that I hated so much - instead being escorted to a decently sized two-top table closer to the back of the front room that also allowed me to observe there was a smaller back room that had its own menu/chalkboard and seemed to help in terms of noise level. I waited a few minutes for a server to arrive (she apologized) and my drink order was taken. While I was ready to order at that point, having already waited, my server said she'd be right back to take my order and I wasn't particularly bothered by it. I decided to keep things simple tonight and order what they call the "All-American" Burger that comes with American cheese with lettuce slaw (shredded lettuce, chopped pickle and mayo). for $8.99. I ordered it well done and asked to hold the cheese. It includes one side - I chose fries. I will admit that I had misread the menu and was not expecting the "lettuce slaw." I simply scraped it off to the best of my ability and for the most part was fine with it. The service tonight was kind of odd - initially kind of slow, then rather rushed. I was delivered my check, with the usual "there's no rush," prior to my finishing my meal and prior to having even been offered a refill. It's kind of basic - don't say "there's no rush" if you're handing me the check before my meal is even done because you're just plain lying. You ARE rushing me, perhaps subtly, but you're rushing me because you're making me, in the middle of my meal, have to start thinking about the end of my meal. Can you tell it irritated me? I did, after intentionally lingering a few minutes, finally get offered a refill and was asked if I wanted it "for here or to go." Again, why are you rushing me out the door? Why can't have I have a refill here then maybe get offered one for the road? Instead, I finally paid my bill and never saw the server again. The food was clearly not one of their more abundant dinners as Metro has a reputation for generous serving sizes. The burger, definitely not well done and maybe not even medium-well, was a middle-of-the-road burger with a side of fries that were lightly seasoned/browned and, once again, pretty middle-of-the-road. I doubt I would order either one again. I did enjoy the location I had tonight more than my first setting - it was quieter and calmer and I never got bumped. Ultimately, tonight wasn't a bad experience but it definitely was the kind of experience that would make me shrug my shoulders and say "Don't need to go there again." The food was middle-of-the-road, the service was functional at best, and I can find a better burger for a comparable price at more than one place within one mile. As someone who considers dining, even when alone, to be a social/communal experience, it bothers me when I feel unable to relax/read and simply enjoy the environment. In all likelihood, while I'd consider this to be a perfectly fine meal and I wouldn't argue with someone who wanted me to join them here, I won't go back for round three. read more

I came here and dined alone at the counter. The service was super fast and polite. I got my check half-way through my meal with a "no rush" assurance. Some people have written that it can come off as rushed and I can understand that to a point. However, while I was there I noticed A LOT of people saying, "I'm here on break, only got 45 minutes..." and things like that so I think it is more of a customer-desired practice they've developed. The food was rather tasty. I got the Eggs Benedict with Fried Green Tomatoes. They weren't like how my Grandma used to make them, but they were better Fried Green Tomatoes than I've had elsewhere. I plan on going back and getting something off the lunch menu. Fried Chicken or the Monte Cristo Sandwich is what I'm thinking about. I rarely give out 5 stars, but when it comes to big portions, over the top taste, and friendly quick service this place stands out as among the best breakfast joints in a town that has everything from Just Judy's to Patachou nearby. We had to return one breakfast or this would be a 5 star rating. They gladly took it off our bill, so no problem, we had over ordered anyway. Yo Hala French toast, three of us wanted to try it, but no one wanted to tackle that monster alone, so we ordered it to share and it was an abundant appetizer. Thick sliced Challah surrounding banana cream cheese filling and topped with blueberry compote. Calling this "French Toast" is a ridiculous oversimplification. No strawberries - I'm sure the menu said strawberries but we shrugged it off it was sooooo good. My wife ordered Chipped Beef, which showed up well presented, but tasted like someone spilled a box of salt into the pot. A manager was "very sorry", went back and tasted it himself, and agreed with her. I assume some poor wretched underling was blamed, whipped, and thrown out into the street for knocking that box of salt into the chipped beef pot. ;-) The two egg breakfast I ordered with cheesy grits came out exactly over medium with enough meaty sides to satisfy anyone that had just eaten 1/3 of the Hala. I couldn't finish it, luckily for my wife who had returned her breakfast. My wife's brother made up an omelette, and it was almost as big as the plate... he was able to finish it, but he's 6'4" and it was too good to leave any behind. 5 stars if they hadn't over salted one of our meals. I have got to come back at lunch and try the burger stuffed between two grilled cheese sandwiches. Maybe after I fast for a couple of days first. read more

Just absolutely had to join in on this savvy diner that was featured on Triple D. Popped in Father's day to see what the hustle and bustle was all about and there was surely a crowd eagerly anticipating to be seated and served. 30 minute or so wait for a table and the occasional waft of burnt toast from the open kitchen as I sat there gazing at all the menu options and chalkboard specials trying to decide beforehand what I want. Still undecided. Meanwhile they are hella busy burning the damn toast every few minutes and shattering plates. Seated in the cozy room in the back near the bathrooms, it was rather dim unlike the main dining area in the front. Whatever, I'm tired of waiting and ready to feed this voracious appetite. Seriously GO BIG or GO HOME! Why go to a diner if you're not going to bust your calorie and carb count? Just please don't drop dead from a heart attack. It's decided: Chicken & waffles and pastrami sandwich to share it is! Crisp belgian waffle quarters with a scoop of strawberry infused butter and half a golden browned lightly battered fried chicken sit on this massive platter. The server mixed up this concoction of syrup and Louisiana hot sauce. Spicy syrup and chicken, MMmmmm finger lickin' good! The pastrami sandwich had a mammoth amount of meat sandwiched between fresh rye served along with our choice of crisp onion rings. Full belly=happy belly. Would I make Metro Diner a frequent visit? Friendly & welcoming staff. Got seated right away. Food came out fast, hot & delicious. My son had the kids pancakes(6 silver dollar pancakes) & he made sure to tell us to bring his left overs home which he proceeded to continue to eat in the van. My husband had the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich. He said it was delicious and the portion sizes were perfect. I had the kids chicken tenders & waffles. Comes with 2 good size hand breaded chicken tenders and 1/2 a Belgian waffle. I had Bariatric surgery 7 months ago and can only eat a very small amount. In fact I was only able to eat a half of a chicken tender & half of my waffle(so a 1/4 of a full waffle). The waffle was perfect crispy on the outside and perfect & soft yumminess on the inside. On the 8th day, God created brunch. Metro Diner is next level brunch. I'm not 100% sure what LIT AF means but I think their fried chicken is LIT AF. I got the cheeseburger Benedict which was the special of the day. My better half got the fried chicken and waffles. Let me tell you something. This thing comes with the whole damn chicken (and subsequently priced as such). When it came out I said to him "Surely you can't eat all of that" which is code word for "MOVE OVER AND GIMME ALL THE CHICKEN." Point was taken. Ah marriage. The skin was super crispy, crunchy and deliciously salty. The meat was so moist I'm even saying the word moist. Ladies and gents - get this fried chicken. It comes with waffles but that's just foreplay en route to the masterpiece. The cheeseburger Benedict was excellent, as an FYI. Service is good, prices are fair and food is AWESOME. The portions are HUGE. We had the breakfast pizza and the yo Halla French toast. The breakfast pizza was delicious and the French toast was good but probably would not get again. I like more of a crispy French toast and it was a little soft for me. It definitely gives off the diner feel - everyone was very friendly. However I probably would not have brought my dad here as it is very loud he's not a big fan of loud places. Great place for family and kids. Overall great experience - I don't know if I'm there yet to choose Metro as my first choice over Patachou. I would definitely recommend the breakfast pizza though. read more

What a great addition to the Indy dining scene. Had breakfast with my ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out) buddies at this new (to the area) eatery. Our group tends to be 6-10 and they were very accommodating as they pushed some tables together for us. I ordered 'The Bissel' breakfast - because I love grits and because I'm a maple syrup bigot from upstate New York and they serve the real deal. Two eggs over medium with grits (I cut and fold my runny eggs into the grits), bacon (crisp unless you ask for limp), rye toast and a short stack with 'REAL' maple syrup. All for under $10. Add good coffee and I'm a happy camper. Service is very efficiently delivered by pleasant servers. This was a truly great breakfast dining experience and the menu has so many tantalizing items that I plan to return several times - for lunch & dinner as well as breakfast. read more

Decided to try Metro Diner this morning for breakfast. The wait was 5-10 minutes which was not bad for 9:30 on Sunday morning. While waiting I watched the three hostesses drink beverages and gossiped. I thought that was not very welcoming. We were seated next to the beverage station to the right next to the kitchen. This too was a gossip filled area that the waiters/waitresses would come talk about their plans last night or what tables they didn't like. I would maybe suggest a wall there so the customers do not have be involved in their conversations. Jenaeve was our waitress. She was nice but very soft spoken so in the commotion of a diner atmosphere it was difficult to hear her. I ordered the Sr's breakfast sandwhich. With a side of hashbrowns and hollandaise sauce. The sandwhich was ok. It was lacking flavor, and the sauce was filled with oil. (Not to mention the way over price of $1.00) My dad ordered the eggs Benedict which I will just say needs some work. The Canadian bacon was deli meat sliced thin as tissue paper. The English muffin was small and burnt. Again no flavor to anything. Nothing special about this diner and it doesn't compare to quality of other breakfast/lunch places in the same location. A charming little diner with a small town feel in a big city. This place was featured on Diners, Drive ins and Dives, so let that say what it says. Service was excellent, quick, accurate, and the food was delicious. I had a mimosa, which did not skimp on champagne and was only $2.99. Prices are good and portions are definitely ample. My wife and I both left food on the plate. That cinnamon rolls pancake is out of this world. All in all, if you're looking for diner food, definitely give this place a try, especially for breakfast. read more

So I think I've finally been to all the Metro Diners in the Indy area. This one has a convenient location off 82nd between Keystone and Allisonville in a strip mall with ample parking. That being said, this is one of the smaller locations so I assume there can be a decent wait during busy meal times. I went at 3pm on a Saturday and it was crowded but there wasn't a wait. I got the avocado veggie wrap with side salad and it did not disappoint. My friend got the chicken and waffles which was delicious but she was unaware you could get a half order - definitely recommend if you don't want a full chicken and full waffle. read more

Took a friend from Michigan to Metro, I raved about it the entire way... the service was fine which is why I gave it a some stars but let's talk about the food. The sausage links tasted like what I could only describe as dirty water. The over medium eggs had egg shells in them. The biscuits were on point but the gravy tasted like the sausage, so not good. Love this joint. I sneak into Indy a couple times a month. I dig breakfast. This place makes it good. I usually seat myself, grab silverware and menu. Traditional staples are super good. Big portions done right. The basic two egg with sour dough is hard to beat. Good sausage and eggs from chickens that care (you can tell). Service is just right. Don't fill up my cup until near bottom to mess up my ratios. They have a big selection and someday will branch out but the basics are so good. read more

The chicken and ham were very tasty and cooked perfectly, the sourdough breading was crispy and tasty and the dusting of sugar they put on it were a terrific combination. My server was very good and went above and beyond to keep my iced tea glass filled as well as offering one to go. The fries were bland and pedestrian, but hey, they're fries. This place is amazing. The service on a busy day is so fast. And friendly too! There were tons or people waiting outside and we assumed an hour wait. We got seated in ten minutes! It took us longer to pick our food then it did for it to come out when we finally decided. So fast. They had even made a mistake with one of our dishes but fixed it in minutes with several apologies. The service is extremely good and the staff is so nice. We were recommended the chicken and waffles (we came for breakfast) and it did not disappoint. The chicken is SO GOOD! Dined at Metro Diner for the first time today. We dined at the bar around early lunchtime because it's open seating and my kids and I didn't have to wait. My partner and I have been going to the Metro Diner for many years. The food is delicious, portions are overly generous and the staff is fantastic. In particular is Marco, a charming, responsive and simply terrific waiter. When we arrive at the diner, we always head for Marco's section - even if we have to wait a few minutes. He knows our special needs and never forgets to make sure we're pleased with our entrees. I hope the Metro remains in business as long as we're living in New York. I went at 12pm on a Sunday. It was very crowded with many family's but they were still able to get me in quickly. The interfer is like a traditional American diner, and the waitresses had cute uniforms. My waitress was very attentive and I never had to ask for anything. I got the biscuits and gravy and the cheddar grits. The food was just okay. The gravy tasted greasy to me, if that's possible, but the grits were good. That was my first time trying them. I would go back and just try something different. They have breakfast and dinner options so I would probably just get something off the dinner menu. read more

I had the chicken and waffles and it was AMAZING. You get a whole Belgian waffle and four pieces of fried chicken (breast, wing, leg, thigh) for $15. The waffle is topped with strawberry butter and they bring you warm syrup. At the table they mix a little of the warm syrup with hot sauce for your pouring and dipping pleasure. It's a great combo. The sweetness hits your tongue first, then the spice and finally a little of the vinegary bite from the hot sauce. Yum! My husband had the Vortex Burger, which is just ridiculous. It's a half pound burger between two grilled cheese sandwiches. It's HUGE. Of course, he added the fried egg because you only live once. My only complaint about his burger is that the egg was well done and I prefer an over easy egg because runny yolk is the nectar of the gods. His fries were hot and crisp, as they should be. The staff was wonderful. We were greeted promptly by our server and when we left, every single employee we passed thanked us for coming and wished us a good day. This is pretty good joint for a traditional American meal (breakfast, lunch, or dinner). I had the large pot pie and it was pretty good. The top crust was unusual in that it was made by flattening out their regular biscuit dough. The chicken was moist and meaty. The vegetables seemed like the frozen stuff (bright green peas and perfectly rectangular carrots) that you get from the supermarket. I would like to come back for breakfast as the menu seemed a little more creative than the lunch/dinner fare (burgers, fried chicken, sandwiches, etc.) Service was spotty at best. Our server seemed nice enough and got our order right, but once the food came out she was nowhere to be seen. She could have checked in on us and refilled our drinks.
