Father's Day lunch with the family today. I've eaten here a few times, but today was the first time with my family. We expected a wait in being seated since we were a party of six and it being Father's Day. The wait wasn't bad, especially because they offer free coffee while you wait. Grandpa and one of my daughters had the jumbo chicken pot pie, my wife had the cinnamon roll pancakes (one of the specials today), my son had chicken and waffles, my other daughter has the French dip and mac and cheese, and I had the chicken fried NY strip special. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food and we all agreed the service was great. The portion sizes are very large, so plan on taking some food home with you. read more

I ordered the chicken salad sandwich, nothing exceptional. I hate paying for food that I can make better myself. My daughter ordered the breakfast, huge portions and she loved it. She goes often, this was my first time. I should have ordered breakfast. Probably won't go back. EDIT (6mo later): I am beyond happy I gave Metro a second chance! We've been twice in ONE WEEK! Not only is the service great! The food is too! I suggest...Cheesy grits! (BEST EVER! enough for two) a couple Spicy Honey chicken biscuits! (Not too spicy 5 & 6 year olds handled it just fine) 12' challenge (big enough for all four of us), and an order of biscuits and gravy with corned beef hash! Fed two adults and two small children. I've been here with large groups (between 6-12) many times as we love the delicious and hearty post Saturday night food on Sunday morning. I haven't gotten anything that I didn't enjoy or didn't bring some home with me. The food comes out quickly and is consistent. The wait staff has been hit or miss at this location, sadly! We ran into some attitude recently and it really rubbed me the wrong way. We were being polite and not difficult, but it seemed like we had ruined the waitresses day by being there. Great prices, large portions. Went for breakfast about 3 weeks ago, can still remember how good it was. Had the two egg breakfast with the sausage links, toast and hash browns. My wife had her breakfast with the short stack of pancakes. Was enough to share. The only down side was that our server forgot to put our order in. My husband and I stopped in for a late lunch today (Saturday) around 2 pm. The restaurant was busy but we were able to get a booth that was just getting cleaned off! We were greeted immediately by our server, Terrell. We ordered some drinks and then as soon as he came back with those we got our food order in. He seemed pretty new - still getting familiar with the menu but he made some great recommendations! I had a good Metro Melt with fries and my husband had the Pittsburg Pastrami with onion rings. After hearing our friends rave about Metro Diner, my husband and I finally got the chance to stop in and try it out. This place is definitely going on our list of favorite brunch spots! The vibe is so relaxed and homey. Like Kasey B said, it definitely has that small town diner feel to it, which I love! Upon entering, we're greeted by the hostess and got seated right away. Our waitress was Alicia and she was great! She was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable of the menu/daily specials. She took our drink orders and was back within 5 minutes. The coffee was surprisingly better than what I expected which I was very pleased by. The hubby got the daily tea special which was Peach and liked it so much that he got a cup to go. As for food- I got the western omelette with home fries and he got the bissell breakfast. Our food came out super fast! Everything was nice and hot. My omelette was good. I thought the salsa with the eggs, ham and veggies was nice. I do feel like more ham could've been added but I didn't mind too much, I still really enjoyed it. Hubby said he really liked his food as well. He's usually skeptical about cheesy grits as he always compares them to down south but he said MD's were pretty up to par. The portions are also very big. If you're wanting to try a couple different dishes, you could definitely split it. We're planning on doing this with the chicken and waffles the next time we stop in. Food quality is noticeable declining, don't know if Covid is to blame or not, everything I ordered was rewarmed barely. Nothing tasted Fresh or hot, except the coffee. My first time trying this place was great. I ordered a chicken biscuit and was sad when I got to the last bite. Since then I've gone back a handful of times and it's consistently been worse. I went earlier this week and the biscuit was so hard i could barely eat it. I said then it was my last time, today I decided to give them one last chance. Worst. Mistake. Ever! When placing my order I explained everything I just typed and the waitress "ensured" my food would be fresh. I waited 8 minutes or so, the manager brought me the food. I open it up and I'll be damned if the biscuit wasn't hard as a brick. I take it back, another waitress says it'll be EIGHT minutes for another one. Nope, run me my money. Husband ordered spicy eggs Benedict with fried Chicken on top of a biscut. SIL ordered the most amazing shrimp and grits. It is totally worth the 30 minute wait for a table.. I've been here twice and had the same thing both times: the chicken and waffles. It's just incredible. The strawberry butter is SO GOOD, and the waffles are great too. It also comes with "spicy sweet sauce" which is hot sauce and syrup. Trust me, you want this. I get my fried chicken in strip form because it normally comes with half of a fried chicken. The tenders are incredible (probably my favorite chicken tenders anywhere) and pair very well with the sauce. I get the flavored coffee which is always wonderful too! Breakfast Pie with turkey sausage is my fave, the waffles, I have no idea how they get them the perfect amount of crispy and light as air. Get it with the strawberry butter, it's a game changer. The chicken serving was more that generous. The waffle was light and fluffy and included strawberry butter. My husband ordered the Crisco sandwich, which was HUGE! He tried, but couldn't finish it but wasn't disappointed with eating it as leftovers as well. The traditional reuben was a hit, but again, half came home. Based on the attention this place has received and some of the better Yelp reviews, I just expected a lot better. First of all, our server was very pleasant, and she served our table well. It's the ambiance and the food itself that tanked my rating. It might be that our booth was located up near the door and what would be the outer edge of the dining area, but it was dark over there. We looked around, and there was no light above our booth nor the booth behind us. It was also quite chilly in there, so dark and cold does not making for a pleasant dining environment. Also, the whole concept of it being a diner felt phony. It seemed very commercial and like a restaurant impersonating a diner, not an authentic diner. We had the kahlua coffee, which was tepid. We had the fried chicken which came with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The sides were ok, but the chicken seemed as though it had been fried in old grease, as there were black areas on the breading and the breast was dry. Again, the whole plate of food was barely warm. The crab Benedict was really good, the shrimp and grits had tons of flavor and were in a creamy sauce. The corned beef hash was also good and the avocado toast was a large serving and very tasty. Diner food...love it!! My husband and I have anxiously been waiting to try out Metro Diner after reading all the positive Yelp reviews. Sundays are a good day for us to enjoy brunch together so we decided we were going to pay this little diner a visit. We had about a half hour drive to get to the restaurant so we were eagerly looking through various reviews and all of the mouth watering photos that other Yelpers had posted. The whole way there, we kept saying we weren't really interested in Chicken N Waffles, but weren't quite sure what we wanted. We continued to look through the photos, getting more hungry by the minute! We arrived at Metro Diner around 2:30 in the afternoon. I think we picked a good time as It appeared that they were just finishing what must have been a busy morning/early afternoon rush. We were promptly seated and waited on. Our waitress offered us a drink selection and told us about their coffee of the day, which was Toasted Almond. She said they were just making a fresh pot and it would be out shortly, which it was. Coffee came and was piping hot and very flavorful. Now to place our order...what a menu...so many good dishes to pick from and we still had not made our final decision. Alas, after seeing all the Chicken N Waffles being carried off by all the wait staff and finding out that you get a half of chicken, we had made our decision. Chicken N Waffles it is, with a side of hash browns and grilled onions. Since the portions looked big, we decided we would split the meal. I'm so glad we did, it was plenty for both of us! The chicken looks dark when it's served, but don't let that fool you, it is very moist inside. Dip that chicken in the little cup of syrup with hot sauce and you will be surprised by the wonderful flavors on your tongue! I never would have thought of mixing hot sauce and syrup, but it certainly works! The hash browns were cooked perfect, crispy on the outside and moist potatoes on the inside, topped with caramelized, grilled onions on the top. The service was excellent and we could not have had a better first experience. We are looking forward to trying their new location that just opened in Greenwood. If you are looking for a modern diner to enjoy, I would highly recommend Metro Diner. I think next visit, I might try the Shrimp and Grits, which I hear are quit yummy! Met with my daughter at the location near a keystone mall. I ordered chicken and waffles and chicken with mashed potatoes no gravy and Mac n cheese...we were never asked if we wanted dark or white only to find out there was an option. Plates are brought to the table with a leg and a thigh each. Waitress said since you wanted chicken fresh the other pieces (wing and breast) are not ready yet. We began eating and at this point I am waiting for the rest of the chicken and waffle got cold, at on it anyway. We were commenting on the point of getting half the meal to each other. I finished my meal and here came the other pieces of chicken-(15 minutes later)At that point I no longer wanted or needed the chicken. Manager came over and started spewing policies and more policies. Bottom line was why would you bring half of our food because all of the food was not ready???? First time visit to Metro....went with a friend for brunch on a Sunday. Place was understandably busy, and I was pleased that we still only waited about 15 minutes for a table. I decided to try the famous chicken and waffles. Beware, portions are huge! You get an entire 1/2 chicken and a full Belgian waffle. They serve the waffle with a delicious strawberry butter and the chicken with a unique syrup/hot sauce mix that I really liked. (And my son said it was just as good the next day! ) Our waitress was so friendly and accommodating. I couldn't get enough of the flavored coffee of the day, Jamaican Me Crazy, I must have had at least 4 cups! I love tasty brunch and my husband loves diners - this place lives up to its tagline "comfort food with a twist". The menu is vast, service was fast and friendly, and the quality of the dishes were great. Definitely notches above a regular diner. Portions are massive but nice thing is they let you place half orders! Half order of the chicken and waffles hit the spot. My family and I were in Indy for a hockey tournament last weekend. After an early evening game, we were hungry and needed dinner ideas. The area where our hotel was was rife with chain restaurants like Cheesecake Factory and P.F. Changs, but we wanted something different (and good) so we checked with old faithful Yelp. My hockey playing son was in the mood for chicken and was ravenous, so I typed in chicken and found the reviews for Metro Diner and its' famous Chicken and Waffles. Done. It was after 7pm when we arrived, but there were tables available. My son ordered chicken and waffles, I had the pork tenderloin sandwich and my husband had a humongous fried fish sandwich. Such a fun place! I love the hometown diner feel and environment inside this restaurant. We came here for dinner and loved every aspect of it. The service was fantastic and pretty fast. Our food was really good. My wife's burger was a little more pink than desired, and even though she did not say anything, the cook from the kitchen noticed it was not cooked fully so they did not charge us for it. I have high-hopes for Metro Diner. They are friendly and trying hard (and succeeding) to make a positive impact with their customers. The menu has a lot on it and the price points are competitive. Portions are large. My fish sandwich was huge and served on a baguette-style bun. I'm not sure I'd get it again but last night I tried the fried chicken (with waffle) as a take-away order and it was really outstanding. It's a half a chicken for $14 and is easily two meals.
