My husband loves their bold city burger since he's a meat lover but I love the Bissell breakfast which is like a make your own with a ton of options of any kind of eggs, any bread type, hash brown or grits with different options of meat to choose from and a side of pancakes. Absolute joy every time we come on the weekend! Also, our service was so sweet and observant. Our servers name was Desiree. I'm glad we were able to be seated in her section and served! Excellent service, friendly servers and front desk workers. The food was freshly made and pretty good! My son got the chicken and waffles (HUGE PORTION) and the chicken was seasoned well and crispy. The spicy syrup was too spicy for my son so he used the regular maple syrup. The eggs Benedict were delicious and the pancakes were fluffy and yummy. The bathrooms were clean and well-maintained. I had previously done to a Metro Diner before and left that experience was much better. I noticed how the menu was much much smaller with now just the typical items to order that can be found anywhere. Sad to see that happen. Especially for a place that was featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives for their food, now there is nothing that would cause me to come back. I have always loved Metro Diner and have gotten great service and food in the past,, but this last online $80+ order was not one. I picked up at the Baymeadows location and when I got home there were several problems. 1. The potine did not have any gravy, have requested it on the side but was not included. 2. The fried chicken plate was suppose to have 2 side items, it did not. 3. There were more fried potatoes in the chicken nuggets than chicken. Calledl the restaurant and talked to the manager, who said he would credit the potine and chicken plate, he has not. Very disappointing all around both food and service !!!!! read more

I've had a few restaurants fail horribly on the sauce so I'm glad they nailed it. Home style potatoes: DRY and NO TASTE. I guess no salt is better than too much salt. Though not the traditional plate, it is quite a twist by substituting the accustomed bowl of grits and switching it for two big grit cakes. When I walked in, there was no wait and the host told me to choose my seat. My favorite are booths and everyone on them but one had dishes waiting to be cleared off so I chose the booth in the back. This is my favorite location versus the original simply because of parking (proximity to former dwelling was also a plus if I'm being honest). I always get whatever the flavor offering is and I have NEVER been disappointed. I had Caramel Cinnamon Swirl and it did not disappoint. Full bodied and robust with just enough flavor to bring a smile to my soul. On this visit, I had the seasonal Pumpkin Pancakes. Pumpkin is one of those things you either love or hate. If you are not a fan of all things Pumpkin Spice, hear me out....these are not overwhelmingly Pumpkin. As you can see, the pancakes are HUGE. Served with Cinnamon Butter and a nice Cream Cheese icing drizzle on top, these pancakes are more sweet treat meets breakfast rather than a Pumpkin Lover's delight. Wow! Talk about consistency .. Metro doesn't miss! Before taking a trip, my family and I decided to stop for breakfast. Prior to this visit, I couldn't remember the last time I'd been. I usually stuck with the Bissell or something more basic like the two egg or protein breakfast plate. I wanted to get my daughter something she'd eat and enjoy, so, I opted for the chicken tenders for her. To be honest, I didn't think much of it, I figured it'd be your typical kids chicken tender meal. I'm mentioning this because I told our server, Shay, to surprise me out of the chicken tender plate or another dish I was considering. *shakes head* I can't tell you the last time I'd had chicken tenders but these were seasoned with purpose! And their fries matched perfectly! It was busy and a bit crowded inside but that's to be expected on a Sunday morning/afternoon. It was chill, ideal vibe. He let me choose my seat. He took my drink order and left a few menus. This Metro Diner is under construction. I should have been nosey and asked what they were doing, but I didn't and now I'm curious. My coffee came out and it was robust, hot, and flavorful. It was so good, I had another three cups. I checked out the menu and normally I'm a creature of habit and get the Croissant French Toast, but this visit I wasn't in the mood for sweet, so I opted to get a breakfast sandwich, egg, cheese, and bacon on a croissant and a side of home fries. Shortly my breakfast came out. My breakfast sandwich was delicious: flakey, buttery croissant (check), fluffy scrambled eggs (check), melted cheese (check), crispy, salty, delicious bacon (check). This sandwich was everything a breakfast sandwich should be and the only missing element that I added was ketchup to make it a perfect breakfast sandwich. The home fries were good, not great. No real spice/flavor. They were fine. Metro Diner certainly has grown in the last several years. Where once it started with a single location in Jacksonville, now it is spread throughout the southeast. Sadly, with growth, they felt they had to streamline their menu and one if the casualties was my go to at this place. It was a pork sandwich with spinach and bacon and it was absolutely divine. I get that businesses must make decisions to keep them moving forward, but I do miss that sandwich. They still have many excellent options on their menu. You can't go wrong with a burger or their breakfast options. So, some might be wondering is the Metro still as good as it was? Well, the answer is no. But if they had not made decisions like streamlining their menu or perhaps finding new vendors to source their food from, they might not have grown to open their many locations where the majority will first try this diner. So, it is still a great place, but many of us old customers who knew them before all the growth can remember with a sad smile. The ambiance is typical diner environment. Nothing wrong with it, I like it. Service is good and the food is good, as well. I will recommend this location and this diner chain. read more

I have only been to metro diner a handful of times. This time was with my church group so there had to be at least a full long table of us women. I was undecided on what to order because everything sounded delicious and was not any additional thrills or frills but straight and cut to the point. Of course I opted to get the waffles and the breakfast eggs and meat. The service was amazing and we had our food out at a well time. It was a bit busy that day but it was not so loud that we could not hear one another we had laughter in our waitress was very nice. What can I say that hasn't already been said? All the food here is delicious and fresh made. Staff are friendly and helpful always! The strawberry butter should be served with a spoon and bowl because I could eat it all by itself. But it's served with the chicken and waffles which you have to try! I always have leftovers from here. My tea and coffee are always kept full. This place makes me happy:) That being said, you may have to wait for a seat. I'm not the only one who feels this way. Let me say this...I absolutely love Metro Diner. The food never disappoints. The service isn't bad, but it's a lot better early in the mornings (esp during weekdays) because it's not crowded. I will say though - busy or not - my food always comes out in a timely manner. My biggest gripe with this Metro Diner in particular is that the silverware that I'm given is never clean. There is always some old food stuck on it. Today, I went through about five different things of silverware and never got a clean one. I just asked the waiter to bring me plasticware. They should upgrade the dishwasher ASAP. Sn: if you're looking to eat here on a Sunday, you should do it really early in the morning or after 11 am. The crowd has usually died down after 11 AM. Went to Metro Diner today for breakfast. I go to the one on Baymeadows and Southside Blvd. The crew there is exceptional. Very family oriented and you get to know everyone by name. Jackie was our server. She's always great! I ordered something different today than my usual Bissell. This is my go to breakfast restaurant. The quality and care is noticeable in their foods quality as well as presentation. The menus are now located online, when you show up you just need to scan a Q-code and it comes up on your phone. They rolled out a new breakfast dish called the fried chicken eggs Benedict and it's phenomenal. You can tell everything is freshly fried to order, and the biscuits are light and fluffy as they should be. Whenever I attend this location they have seating that is offset to the normal dining room that provides a less noisy ambience to which I appreciate greatly for conversations around the table at a normal volume. read more
