I will warn, the oatmeal we had was quite bland and watery. (Could have just been a dud) The ordering process via the server is done on their digital tablet rather than a traditional pen and paper or personal memory. While this can help with efficiency and food prep time, it can create some awkward moments when dealing with a server who is not as versed with modern technologies such as tablets. The feel of the restaurant instills a sense of something classic, but doesn't scream a "Diner" as one might expect. Overall theme is kind of plain. In conclusion, if you want a quick bite, in our case for breakfast, then don't be afraid to give it a try. Won't break the bank, but don't expect something life changing. read more

The last time we had a bad experience but we thought we'd try it again. Well it wasn't a one time problem. It took FOREVER for anyone to decide to be our server. Upon entrance we were told to sit anywhere. One server waLked by us numerous times and finally (15 minutes later) she decides to be our server. This was my first time at either Metro Diner. I met a friend for a late breakfast and she had been here before. I arrived early and was seated with menus. Five minutes go by and the manager asked me if I'd seen anyone. I told him no so he took my drink order then found Lori, our waitress. My friend arrived then Lori came up to ask us if we had any questions. She said everything was good. I had to take her word for it because Lori was still chewing her food as she was speaking to us. The food was good. My friend ordered a Belgian waffle without powdered sugar. It came with the sugar. She asked for a straw and never received one. We will definitely go back but not sit in loris section. Lori left her menu tablet on the edge of our table too with the dirty fingerprints on it. Then we saw her with another tablet. Another waitress took it away for us. I had the special omelet Oscar and it was good with hollandaise sauce and the grits were really good. First time here. We went at lunch rush. Food, staff and management was awesome here. Our waitress never let our glass get empty and answered any question we had about the food. One of my favorite places for breakfast. They do a lot stuff in-house which is great. I never had bad service and they try their best to accommodate special orders which I appreciate. OK, wow. This place floored us. We've been twice - once for lunch and once for dinner, and neither time were we disappointed. They have great food, served fast and hot. On our morning visit, I had the breakfast burger - it was outstanding, but you best be hungry. My wife used the "try a classic" test on them - bacon, eggs, and hash browns... all were cooked perfectly. For our dinner visit, I admit I don't remember what my wife had - that's because I had the pot roast. I love pot roast, basically because when I was a kid my grandmother made the best pot roast in the world. Ever have a taste-related flashback? The second the first forkful hit my taste buds, I was back in my grandma's kitchen. It's been well over four decades since I last had her pot roast, and though I have tried the dish at many restaurants, no one made it taste like she did - until now. Dead on perfect. I seriously considered ordering a second helping. Meat cooked tender as could be, veggies, potatoes, and a broth-like gravy. Stealing a bit from Guy Fieri, it was Flavor Town in a bowl. OK, so that's the food. What about the rest? The service is great, with friendly, happy staff who actually seem happy to be there. The kitchen crew - it's an open concept so you can see them at work, and they have got it down. And again, they look like they truly enjoy their job... they laugh and joke around as they go about their business, but they get things done. The chef / boss of the kitchen on our morning visit was impressive to watch in action - he interplayed easily with the customers sitting at the counter, yet somehow knew exactly what was going on at each kitchen station - and when the steam table started getting messy, he spotted it out of the corner of his eye, came over and straightened things up, and gently chided the employee whose station that was that things needed to be kept neat. I have been involved with the F&B industry for 15 years on the corporate side, and seldom have I seen a restaurant have their act together like this one. Great food, great service, friendly and helpful staff that know their jobs... what's not to like about this place? And before I forget to mention it, the prices are very fair. To sum it up... if you're on Hwy 72 in Madison, AL and you get hungry - check out the Metro Diner. I think you'll be happy you did. read more

So lets start with some pros they have very friendly service, they serve you large portions, and their prices are friendly. The biggest Con for me is just the taste of the food. Worst takeout/curbside experience from any restaurant ever! I placed an order through the business preferred website at 9:30 am. The ETA was 9:50 am, I arrived on site and clicked I'm here at 9:45 am. Waited until the estimated completion time and called the store on the status I order. The hostess was polite but said it was not quite ready yet and would bring it out as soon as it was done. All the while during this time, I see 3-4 other cars pull up, walk in take out and pull away. I waited another 15 mins and decided to walk in... it turns out the bag was just sitting there. The receipt on the bag shows 9:35 am, and was at the very front of the queue, and yet, it was not brought out to me immediately. I had to walk in to find it just sitting there. So for all I know it was on the counter for 30-45 potentially, 5 minute drive back to my destination already late for a 10 am meeting... and the sandwich is cold and hard as a rock. There's no way it had just finished when I walked in to check already 30 minutes past the ETA. Don't do take out here. read more

Ok me and my friend have now been here twice! As hostess for the local Porsche Club I schedule monthly dinners and monthly breakfast at various restaurants in and around the Huntsville AL area. It was such a pleasure working with this Metro diner. The manager Sharifah Abubaker, was an absolute pleasure to work with! She even came in on her day off to ensure everything went smoothly. The wait staff was well-trained and provided superb service. The kitchen staff was equally impressive--everyone was amazed at how quickly their food order came out especially considering we had 25 in our party. Our experience could not have been better! Quality food, superb service and a manager that represents her employer in an exemplary manner. Because of our great experience we are scheduled to return to this particular Metro Diner for our June monthly breakfast. read more

I wanted to let people know that the Metro Dinner owners and staff are doing a great job keeping you safe from the virus. Everyone, well just about everyone, has a cell phone. Metro has a bar scanner label on the table and you use your phone to scan and you will see the menu. They also have disposable menus but using the scanner will mean menus do not have to be thrown away. read more

The waitress, Rachel, was lovely. She was attentive and kind. It was our first time there and she explained everything well. I had the biscuits and gravy and it wasn't the best. The biscuit was hard and the gravy wasn't hot. I bet the biscuits would have been better if I wasn't eating breakfast for dinner. My over easy egg wasn't fully cooked. The hash browns were amazing! My son had waffles and sausage and loved it. My daughter had chicken tenders and macaroni and cheese. By this time our party had finished eating I told her not to have him cook it again so she brought it back to him. Tried Metro Diner in Madison for the first time today. Not good. Had a sample of the hollandaise sauce before ordering one of their many offerings of eggs benedict. Good call...it was bad. Tasted like yellow cream of mushroom soup. Canned something, but not hollandaise. We tried something more middle of the road. Hubby wanted a side of pancakes with his egg breakfast...they don't offer it. He ended up with an average-tasting giant pancake with two over medium eggs on the side. I ordered corned beef hash with two eggs fried over medium. Eggs were not cooked properly, very runny whites. Took two tries to get properly cooked eggs. Hubby's egg whites were raw inside. Hash was grainy and mushy and tasted like it had been sitting uncovered in a fridge for a while. I couldn't eat it. Manager was kind enough not to charge us for the meal. We tipped our waitress what she would have made for the check...she did an excellent job and the poor food was not her fault. Left with upset stomachs and we won't be back again. read more

We ordered Bissells which came with 2 eggs potatoes bread meat and pancakes we also ordered a waffle and grits. The food came out super fast like maybe 10min which was pretty awesome. Unfortunately it did not deliver ! I asked for over medium and they very over easy my hubby asked for scrambled and they were also very runny. The potatoes lacked flavor and those pancakes tasted like the came out the freezer. It really just tasted like food that was made with zero love a totally disappointing experience. read more
