I usually have a great meal here, but tonight, not so much. I should have know. By the 91 health code rating that things have gone downhill. My chicken pot pie was full of bones, and the chicken tasted rubbery and dry. My wife's home style turkey and dressing tasted like prepackaged deli meat turkey, not freshly sliced or even sliced a week ago. It's sad, because we used to love this place, and it's our first negative experience. The server was apologetic when I told her about the bony chicken pot pie, and blamed it on the fact that the chicken is pulled off the bone, but that reasoning barely holds water when this chicken was cut up in cubes, and bones should have been found during the processing. read more

The customer service was average but I was greeted at the door the waiter was very busy felt a little neglected. The food was worse than the service to me. I had a Meat Omelet, the eggs felt and tasted artificial the ham had the texture of bologna or a hotdog and the bacon was over cooked and salty. The hash browns were very greasy. The Metro Diner, when we arrived we were welcomed, our waiter was attentive and friendly! I started with $2.99 Mimosas. Those were fresh and crisp! I enjoyed them and highly recommend to all my Mimosas lovers!! Let's get to the food! I ordered The French and fried chicken vs. waffle and friend chicken . I should have gotten the waffle. I enjoyed the flavor of the French Toast yet not the consistency but delicious none the least. But my teammate did order the waffle and fried chicken she enjoyed it. I've never had a bad experience here. The food has always been good and also average. The inside is great. The servers are nice (at least the ones I've had). I like how the kitchen is open but the takeout area.. a mess. They don't have a designated takeout room so everything is out in the open but what can you do. I will say the past couple of times I've come here with family to have breakfast and ordered there flavored coffee; it was cold. Even asked for a fresh one after telling them it was cold and they still served me cold coffee. If you're gonna serve cold coffee, at least put it in a glass with some ice lol. It wasn't worth complaining about though because we all drink cold coffee from coffee shops but it would've tasted better if it was hot. read more

Disappointed. As much as I frequent this place and rave about their BLT, I had to leave. Service and management sorely needs to up its game. It was mid afternoon on Saturday. There were vacant tables. I was alone so I was ushered to a table in the middle of the eatery. It was wobbly and I asked to seat elsewhere. The server just stared blankly and said there were no other tables. I spoke to a manager and said the same thing. He just stared at me unresponsive. He didn't offer another table, asked me to wait while they cleared another table or wait until another table was free or to fix the wobbly table. Nothing. So I left. We stopped in for brunch on a rainy Saturday. The wait was a bit long and the restaurant was really busy and noisy. You can see the open kitchen and all kinds of plates lined up to be run to the tables. I remember my breakfast being average. I was in the Matthews area and was thrilled to see a Metro Diner close by. We went in and were greeted and seated with a smile. The server asked us if we had ever been there before and then shared the daily specials with us. Our waitress was very sweet and may have been new because she had a "back up" server it seemed, so we had double the great service. We finally decided on our meal, hubby had pancakes, bacon, hash browns, eggs, English muffin and I had the fish sandwich that wasn't on the menu but as I was scrolling through yelp, I saw it, showed the pic and they made it happen. All of my husbands food was delicious but I had a snafu with my sandwich. The bread was stale. Very hard and tough but the inside was delicious. I immediately informed the server and they took care of it and had another one made. The manager came over and apologized and said they would make sure the bread was fresh and toasted. And the new sandwich was perfect! The coffee was a bit watered down and I'd love it if they had a strong brew option. Nothing like a delicious meal with watery coffee but it was tolerable but I won't likely order it again! Still a fan of this diner despite the bread and coffee. Give it a shot! Metro Diner is one word phenomenal! I have been here many times since the opening and I have always has the most amazing food and service. Everything I order here is so good. I had the breakfast club yesterday and I was Leary but it was delicious! The coffee is wonderful too, they have the best country fried steak I've ever had. And then they is this cinnamon roll pancake omg it's heavenly. The biscuits and gravy are like grandma used to make, fluffy ommlets filled with fresh fillings. They have the best staff everyone is very attentive and nice. If you haven't been please go you will not be disappointed. read more

I will start by saying that our waitress, Jessie, was phenomenal!!!! Because of her I'm not leaving 1 star. She was one of only a few kind people we encountered this evening. As for the manager she was rude and could not even speak to us directly when she was standing a mere few feet in front of us, she would only speak via the hostess. I had a party of 7 adults and 5 kids. When we first approached the host stand 7 of the 12 people were there. The hostess said she couldn't sit us until more people showed up. I can understand that most of the time, but over half of our group was there. Still not a dealbreaker. Less than 10 min after that our whole group was there and we were told once the group of 6 that was at a table left then they would sit us. We were told they have their food boxed up already, so they should be leaving soon and if they didn't then they would find another option for us. 45 min later the people are still there and then the hostess tells us that is the only place we can sit and there was no where else. She also said that since we are a large party then there is often a wait. I asked about going ahead and placing our order so when a table is ready the we can have our food. The hostess tells me, "my manger just said no we can't do that." WHY CAN'T THE MANAGER SPEAK TO US DIRECTLY!?! After having waited a full hour I approach the hostess again to see if they could ask the table to leave or let them know a group of people (kids, elderly, etc...) have patiently been waiting an hour for the table. Once again the manager speaks to the hostess who then speaks to me and says, "my manger says we aren't allowed to ask a table to leave." Even a waitress came up and said they couldn't ask the table to leave but we could go and say something to them. Up to this point NOT ONE PERSON had come up with a solution of how to accommodate our group when there were plenty of open seats/tables in other parts of the restaurant. Finally after 1.5 hours of waiting some nice employee comes up and says she can put us at two different tables but in the same area and at that point we were finally sat down. NOT ONCE DID THE MANAGER COME TO THE TABLE AND APOLOGIZE FOR THE WAIT OR INCONVENIENCE OR SAY ANYTHING!!! No this was not my first time at this location, but it will be my last! read more

Update: We took advantage of the voucher offer and had a much better experience this time around. Our order was correct (and HOT) when we arrived for curbside pickup. Hubby got the Bissell Breakfast and I tried the Breakfast Pie (really more of a scramble) this time around. Large portion sizes, neither of us finished. This was my family first time here and it was a lovely experience. We were greeted and seated promptly. The location is very clean as well as the restrooms. Server and kitchen service was quick. The food was plentiful and delicious. The prices are fair. The kids love their chicken tenders& fries and chicken tenders with Mac & Cheese plates. I had the Italian Meat Lover's Burrito with home fries. The burrito was very good, but I didn't care for the home fries. It tasted very starchy to me. My hubby had the fruity waffle and home fries. I really hate to say this, but my meal here was truly terrible. My husband and I came here on Sunday evening. I got the pot roast ($12) and it was literally so salty I could not eat it. It may have been the gravy, not sure. I did something I don't believe I have ever done, I told the waitress and asked for something else. I got the Reuben sandwich ($11) that was on special. It was ok, but there were bits of Swiss cheese that didn't melt. I don't think they were using slices ? Maybe just granulated cheese bits for less cost? The fries that came with it were cold and salty. I ate part of them anyway at this point. My tongue literally tingled from all the salt of these meals afterward. My husband got the turkey pot pie ($12) on special. He said it was just ok. He didn't really like the top breading, said it was "unique". He said the carrots inside were salty. We tipped the waitress well. It wasn't her fault the food was terrible. The employees were wearing masks, even though my understanding is masks are optional in NC.
