Best diner experience in GA! It was so good that I actually came here for breakfast more than once during my stay around Savannah. Steak and eggs was rock solid and well seasoned. We happened upon the Metro Diner while looking for a place to have breakfast near the airport before our departing flight from Savannah. We were quoted a 35-minute wait, and kudos to our friendly hostess for being pretty much spot on. Once seated, we were greeted fairly promptly by the soft-spoken, but very much on top of her game, Tranese. While waiting we read through the reviews so I knew to get a half-order of the fried chicken and waffles, but Tranese offered the option of chicken tenders, which I took - and I'm so glad I did! They were indeed tender, and also flavorful and juicy - these were definitely not fast food, although our order was delivered quickly, accurately and hot. Also - two words - strawberry butter...Yes Please! My son chose the steak, egg, and hash-brown bowl substituting sausage gravy for the hollandaise. He devoured it. My husband ordered the Bissell Breakfast - so much food! He kept saying it was too much, but he "forced himself" to eat nearly every bite. His quote, "They know how to cook eggs!" I don't know if it was the food, or the service we enjoyed more, but it was certainly a dynamic combo. I took off one star because of the really poor job done by the bus boy before we were seated. We watched him wipe down the table, and he was inefficient and clearly/likely inexperienced. I think he left more food on the table and seats when he wiped up (or more accurately when he pushed the food around with a wet cloth), so I ended up cleaning behind him after we sat down. Our table was also not wiped with the sanitizing spray like the others...thankfully I carry my own wipes. Please do better going forward on this point, in these times. All in all though, an excellent and affordable meal in an unpretentious, warm, and friendly restaurant. read more

The Metro Diner is seriously some of the best comfort food I've ever had... and as a huge foodie, that's saying a lot. The decor is sleek and clean and comfortable. The staff is friendly, helpful, and you can see they love their job. Everyone is smiling even though they're running around because it's crazy busy. Our server, Danielle, recommended items, got everything spot on, and was fun to talk to, as well. She took care of us so well, making sure we had what we needed. The food....oh man....sure, you want a nice environment with a staff that will treat you right, but the food is what makes or breaks it and the food here is nothing short of phenomenal. Seriously...it's hearty, satisfying, and the portions are outrageous. Something to consider is to half something so it doesn't go to waste. We sat at the counter once and I have to say the kitchen staff is a well-oiled machine. They work so well together in their ballet of plating, cooking, and serving it was absolutely amazing to watch. Now, for some recommendations... I don't think you can really go wrong with anything on this menu. There are a lot of selections for sandwiches, salads, breakfast items, omelets, and fancier dishes like pastas and steaks. I can't wait to try everything on this menu because the food is that good. We've had the Ruben sandwich which was juicy and tender and not drowned with condiments. The chicken and waffle platter is enough to feed a small town as you get a half a chicken and four triangles of Belgian waffle with a healthy scoop of strawberry butter on top. I'm a bit of a fried chicken snob and I have to say the folks in the kitchen hit this right out of the ballpark. The chicken was cooked perfectly, it wasn't greasy at all, and the crust was some of the best I've ever had. The waffle was fluffy and delicious, but that strawberry butter just made the day. Our server, Danielle, mixed some syrup and hot sauce together for us to dip the chicken into and it was an amazing accoutrement to the meal. I have to say we like to eat our burgers and we will definitely be trying every one on the menu. Our son had the breakfast burger which consisted of a patty , bacon, hash browns, and a fried egg over easy. When he bit into the egg and the yolk oozed out over the burger it was like a flood of yumminess coating the entire meal. My husband had the Philly cheesesteak and said it was one of the best ones he'd ever had. The fries that accompanied it were crisp and well done not greasy at all or flimsy. The sandwich could have stood a little bit more seasoning, but we took care of that so no problem. I ordered the Bissell breakfast and boy if I had socks on, they would have been knocked off. Here, I thought I ordered this casual brunch of a couple of eggs , some hash browns, toast, and bacon, but imagine my surprise when enough food came out for three people. The eggs took up a third of the plate and the hash browns took up at least half. I had my eggs scrambled and they were creamy and delicious. The hash browns were about an inch thick with crispy on the outside tender on the inside potatoes and a layer of cheddar cheese. The bacon was crispy.. a little greasy... but nothing my napkin couldn't take care of. I seriously ate until I wanted to pop and it didn't look like I'd put a dent in the food. Danielle very happily brought us to go boxes and we will just enjoy the food all over again tonight. Oh, did I mention that I got pancakes with my Bissell breakfast as well? A short stack to me means two or three pancakes that are maybe two inches in diameter, but I was wrong again. I got a plate with about a 6 inch diameter pancake on top of another one. They were fluffy and a little crispy on the edges and buttery sweet with the addition of the syrup. The pancakes weren't the best I've ever eaten, but they were damn close. I just don't usually rave so much about a chain restaurant like this, but these guys know what they're doing and they know good food. Highly recommend the place and if you find yourself having to wait in line too long head to the counter and watch the staff work as you eat. It's a great place and worth the drive, about 20 minutes round trip for us, and you will leave there full and happy without breaking the bank. And, as you're walking out the door, be sure to grab one of the absolutely delicious tropical fruit mints they have at the hostess stand. Great job to the staff and management and the fabulous cooks in the kitchen. You will see us often and we will be your regulars. read more

I've eaten at Metro Diner a lot. I've been to the majority of the ones located in the Jacksonville area. All of them served delicious hot food. However, the one in Pooler, GA has been lack luster to say the least the hosting staff and manager were not as friendly as I had hoped for. we waited the hour to get into this place and in return had a disagreement with management. Although the efforts to seat us were made, the hostess had an attitude and sprayed us with the cleaner while she barely wiped the table down. The service via Meredith was definitely a turn around point after we were somehow deleted off the wait list. Although I do love The Metro Diner, I will not be returning to this location. Never seen a menu quite like this. They call it comfort food with a flair, I call pretty dang good. I settled on the Yo Hala on the Square, my wife settled on the Chicken & Waffles. The Yo Hala is chala bread stuffed with bananas, creM cheese, and other goodness and then topped with a warm fresh fruit compote. The bread was light and fluffy, and the filling and compote were good, no need for syrup. Wife enjoyed her chicken & waffles but thought the Chicken was a tad too salty. I had a bite of it and thought it was good. A word of advice: COME HUNGRY. Neither of us finished our meal. My honey took me to breakfast yesterday morning. This restaurant is located in the Tanger Outlets, so there is plenty of parking. When we arrived, we were told to chose to sit anywhere. We chose a booth and I just want to point out how uncomfortable the seats were. It felt as though I was sitting on no cushion, just wood. Anyway, we proceeded to order hot tea to drink. He got the chai and I got the tangerine ginger. Both were good. For our meals, he ordered the chicken and waffles, and I had the crab cake Benedict. The chicken and waffle portion was huge. You get half a chicken with a large Belgian waffle. You can get it as is, or you can choose light meat or dark meat. He really enjoyed it, but couldn't finish it because it was so much. I actually half of his waffle, which was really good, especially with the strawberry butter. My Benedict was also pretty good. The hollandaise was perfect and tasted amazing. My eggs were poached perfectly as well. My only complaint is that my English muffins could have been a little more toasted. It came with a side of hash browns, which were good. The service was good, the waitress was quite attentive. They did appear to be quite busy around 8:15 am so I'm happy the service did not lack. Let me start by saying this food is AMAZING. My husband had chicken and waffles and the strawberry butter was icing on the cake. The waffle also had the best hot sauce/syrup mix. It has a little kick to it. You can ask for dark meat, white meat or a mixture. I had the croissant French toast plate. On the menu it is just the French toast(4 slices), but you can ask for the breakfast and get 2 slices of French toast, sausage, eggs, meat, toast and a side. The price was not bad at all, and it came with a ton of food! Their hospitality was amazing. Our waitress constantly checked on us, and the manager even stopped by to see how we were doing.
