This is one of those times I wish Yelp! would let me do a review for service and food separately. We happened to be in the Tulsa Hills area around lunchtime today with some time to kill, and The Wife suggested we try Metro out. Neither of us was really hungry, but we wanted to get somewhere and sit for a little bit, and get something to drink, so we figured worst case, we'd get a sandwich and a drink or something along those lines. First and foremost, for long time Tulsans.... this isn't the old Metro Diner on 11th, at all. So let's get that one out of the way. We were greeted and seated by a chirpy little gal who was just a tad too enthusiastic for my personal tastes, and even the wife thought it was a tad overplayed. We were given menus by our server and our drink order was taken right away. We were also given the de riguer speech about how everything is scratch made in house every day. Okay... maybe, maybe not. We'll see. The Wife opted for the French Dip sandwich and fries, and I just got a bowl of potato soup, off the special board. Our orders arrive pretty quickly, considering the crowd, which I'd estimate at around 80% full at 2pm or so. The Wife's sandwich was satisfyingly huge, with a flavor to match. Fries appeared to be scratch made, cooked twice, as is proper, and were an excellent companion to the sandwich. No frills here, just a solid sandwich and fries, which is what was advertised. My soup was also most excellent. I like a thick and hearty potato soup, and this matched my expectations on every point. Savory, flavorful, plenty thick enough, and teeming with tasty bits of bacon and red potatos with the skin left on, just like I like it. If I have any not so positive comment, it's that the soup, while thick, seemed to have a very 'light' consistency.... almost slightly foamy, if that makes sense. It wasn't the normal heavy, thick chowder-y consistency. But it was still slammin' good. I'd have ordered a 2nd bowl, but I knew I had to bat cleanup on The Wife's sandwich. Here's where the review takes a schizophrenic split. As good as the food was... the service was abysmally sucky. It was suck on a plate with a side order of suck. We saw our server one time after our food hit the table, and that was for the briefest of 'HowIsEverything?MmmKay" and off she went. One of my cardinal metrics of good service was not only violated, it was trampled in the dirt, flayed open and left to bake. My iced tea glass sat empty for the bulk of my meal. And while that sounds trivial... our server and at least 2 others visibly noticed the empty glass sitting at the edge of the table, and did nothing. Even The Wife, who is a paragon of patience compared to me was getting livid. We eventually had to stand up and ask a passing server if we could possibly get our check. That was the last time we saw our original server (which was in retrospect, probably a good thing, because I was ready to explode, and it wouldn't have been pretty). She handed us our ticket and I handed her back enough cash to cover the bill and a decent and wholly undeserved gratuity. As we were leaving the hostess asked how everything was, and even The Wife.... the paragon of patience... the Duchess of Decorum, couldn't resist. We pretty much told them exactly how we felt, albeit politely, and left. I'm torn on this, because the food was indeed good. In fact, it was great. And I'm mature enough (mostly) to grant that one sucky server doesn't reflect an entire business.... so Metro as a whole gets a pass on that. That said, the server and the fact that my drink was pretty much non-existent for almost my entire meal keeps this review at a 3 star. I just can't go 4 stars on this one. read more

My wife and I visited Metro Diner in Tulsa Hills on 17SEP2023 on our way back in to town from a road trip and decided to stop for a later lunch around 2p. The store was not busy and we were seated immediately, but I was also immediately discouraged to see that the silverware is all sitting out in the open, uncovered, in baskets sitting on the host stand directly beneath the three host staff members conversing at their post and in the immediate path of every patron that enters the restaurant. Not a particularly sanitary method of storing eating utensils and the host even held the business end of one of our spoons with their thumb while walking us to our table. Thankfully we only needed one of the spoons, but the silverware is out in the open and available for just anyone to touch so I could have gotten a replacement if needed. My food arrived hot, however, my wife's food consisted of luke warm eggs and piping hot pancakes (an apparent timing issue that would typically have been excuseable in a busy restaurant, but as mentioned, they were not busy at all). Our waiter was very kind but a little inattentive; after dropping off the food the next time he stopped at the table was to deliver our check. The butter packets eft on the table were half opened and returned by previous patrons. I found that most of the unopened butter consisted of strangely colored and tectured butter, clearly the reason previous patrons had opted not to eat it either. Of the 7 or so packets of butter I opened, I did eventually find one that appearded to have not been melted, possibly frozen, and returned to the table again to soften? My pot pie was heavily seasoned with something that ruined the taste of it so I only ate a few bites before just eating the toast my wife gave me from her plate (reason I needed the butter). Ultimately I will not hold the pot pie against the restaurant as I cannot expect it to be made to my preferred flavor profile; I just suggest ordering something other than pot pie if you do like pot pie anywhere else. If you don't typically like pot pie, give there's a try though! Ultimately we both had a poor experience that kept either of us from finishing our food and we will not likely return in the near future. I am a glutton for punishment though, so we will be back again someday surely. read more

This is the BEST chicken biscuit ever!!! It has the perfect amount of honey to chicken ratio. The biscuit was flaky amazing goodness. I don't add any extra sauce. It said spicy but I didn't taste must spice. The home fries were potato chunks. read more

Metro is a great example of a diner-style chain restaurant. I've been to several locations and the service and food are very consistent. This Tulsa Hills location is the same. Chicken and waffle is really good and they have their own twist with the strawberry butter. Very tasty! Shrimp and grits is good, but the whole "grit cake" thing is not as good as the traditional style grits. Sausage gravy was good (but could use a little more seasoning). **Update: gave it another shot this afternoon, and had a much better experience. Our server was very attentive, and went out of her way to satisfy our somewhat picky grandson. And the food, as usual, was great. ** I've eaten here several times, and the food and service have always been great. Today, though, I was seated right away, then sat for ten minutes with no one evasking what I wanted to drink. The restaurant wasn't busy, and three of the four occupied tables left as I waited, so I don't know what the issue was. Maybe they aren't back up to speed after the quarantine, and the quality will improve with time. I won't be back soon, but hopefully it will get better. read more

Our group goes to the Metro Diner in Tulsa Hills on a weekly basis. Our waitress is usually Brittany. She goes out of her way to make sure everything is perfect. She is very attentive to our needs, never leaves us with an empty cup, and gets our food to us in a great amount of time. She is a class act. read more

We shop in Tulsa Hills every week so we enjoy grabbing a bite in that area before heading out to shop. Tried Metro Diner today for breakfast and we will never go back. Metro has the slowest service of any place we have ever been. We were seated quickly but that's where the promptness stopped. We sat for 20 minutes before any staff came to our table to get our drink order. In hindsight we should have ordered our food at the same time. We saw customers that had come in well after us order and receive their meal well before our order was ever taken. After ordering the same thing happened..... waited forever and finally had to get up and find someone to ask about our food before receiving it. No apology given for the wait. No one seemed to really care that we had waited so long. Just told that they were short staffed and the kitchen takes orders as they come. All I can say is lesson learned. read more

The wife and I have been making this place a regular stop for lunch lately. Everything has been really good and today was no exception. We both ordered the Chicken Tender platter with the creole mustard, fries with ranch and a side salad instead of the coleslaw. This meal was fabulous! Everything was served hot and fresh and we each made the comment that the side salad was probably the best we've had in a while and I'm kinda embarrassed to say that we eat out A LOT. So we've had our fair share of mediocre side salads. Anyway, this place is really good and I would recommend it to anyone. read more

The servers are great and the food is okay but the management is absolutely horrible. I constantly see servers struggling at night and no manager in sight to help!! The other night I was in there and waited about twenty minutes for change because my server couldn't find a manager. We have eaten here 3 times. 1st time: great! Waiter was awesome, food was fantastic! 2nd time: we ordered through Uber eats. They messed our order up and we had to drive there to get it fixed. Had breakfast here, was impressed with the service in ordering and the time it took to bring it to our table. I had the meat lovers omelet, which was good, but they need a sauce or put the cheese on the top not inside. It Came with a huge pancake which was a pancake, nothing special. The two egg breakfast with sausage was good. Trying to review breakfast at a place is hard unless they serve something outstanding as it is really hard to mess up breakfast. The coffee was good and as I said the service was great. They serve mimosas and bloody marys all day every day so that is a plus. We'll keep this place on our "Places to eat" list as we do need other places to eat from time to time. read more
