Probably anyone who replaces a water heater in the middle of a cold snap is showered in accolades, but I have 2 coworkers whose water heaters broke the same week and neither of them had their problems fixed as quickly as I did. Metro Heating & Cooling were fast, efficient, great communicators, and they did good work. Also, the guy who came out told us where the mysterious dripping water was coming from - an old chimney with a condensation drain that didn't have a pipe on it - and fixed it for us! Sure it's $2 worth of plastic pipe, but do I know how that sh*t works? No I do not. And they did. They'll be our go-to for inevitable future HVAC and plumbing issues. read more

Our contractor used Metro Heating and Cooling to relocate an AC unit that was placed in our 1920s bungalow attic. We were extremely disappointed in the service. Warning, I'm going to rant a little. If you read nothing else, read this: if you have Metro perform any service to your HVAC system, make sure it works before letting them leave and paying the bill. The central air in our home had always worked perfectly, but it needed to be moved due to renovations we were doing on our attic. We had installers from Metro come out to move it. Apparently, we needed to be more specific and tell them it still needed to WORK after moving it. The job was around $3000. It did not pass the first city inspection due to them using the wrong tubing in the duct work. They came back out to fix the tubing. Once that was updated to meet code, no one thought to turn it on to make sure it worked? Sure enough, 90 degree heat came to MN later that week and we discovered it was not working. Long story short, it took four ADDITIONAL service calls to get the AC working. Apparently, this company thinks it's perfectly OK to leave without having everything fully fixed. The most unprofessional response came last Wednesday, after we had arrived home from a long weekend at the lake. The AC had been working on Sunday morning when we left, after 3 of the 4 additional service calls. When we came home to a broken AC unit (again, on a 90+ degree day), I called Metro. Paul, who answered the 24 hour maintenance line (side bar: I called him one morning around 8:00 am and got a call back at 9:30 am, he'd been sleeping he informed me), asked me if I had changed the filter, and informed me that any additional work would probably not be covered by the original work warranty. Brian was the service guy and fixed my water heater. Turns out the issue was a dirty gas line to the heater that he cleaned out, I never would've figured that out! That night my furnace stopped working. They came right out next morning and it was coincidentally a dirty flame sensor that he cleaned for no charge. I have had a couple of service calls on my aging furnace, had a new smart thermostat installed and a water heater replaced by Metro Heating and Cooling. The service has been great and as far as I could tell by shopping around their pricing is also great! One thing that really stood out was their honesty. They pointed out that my furnace is nearing the end of its life, but they did not push to sell me a new furnace. They recommended repair but cautioned that a new furnace will be needed within the next few years. From past experiences other companies would have jumped at the opportunity to convince me that I needed a new furnace now. When the time comes I will definitely be calling Metro to replace my furnace. read more

Couldn't be happier with the service we just got from Metro Heating and Cooling on our boiler. They got me in within 48 hours for a non-emergency issue. He diagnosed the problem right away. Then he taught me how to re-light the pilot light (something I've done, but not with our boiler) and drain the overflow tank tucked in our basement rafters. He even had me go bleed air out of all of our upstairs radiators as he re-charged the system (something that I know how to do, but it was his suggestion that we do it at that time with him there - which took him EXTRA time). He was also OK with my 2-yr-old snooping around all of his tools, and was great with my kids. I know you can get a "good" or "bad" serviceman (and we had a bad one with MPLS/St. Paul Plumbing and Heating a year ago), but this guy was great. read more

I needed a whole house water filter that was attached to my water softener replaced. I was hoping it was a small (especially in price) job. It turned out to cost me about 2.5 times what I was hoping, but the plumber who came did a very nice job. The new filter will allow me to maintain it myself without having to turn off the water to the house, which I appreciate. The plumber who came, Mitch, was very nice and professional. He did a great job in about 50 minutes and he estimated an hour. Mitch had to cut out and replace old piping that was connecting the water filter so it was definitely a job I couldn't have done myself. Another plumbing company quoted me 2 to 3 hours which seemed outrageous so I felt fairly treated by Mitch and Metro. Thank you. read more

Metro is not good. They did improper installation on furnace and PVC venting. Did bad installation on my furnace. Rain came into the house due to improper sealing of PVC piping. I have problem ever since they replace a new Rheem furnace for me. Furnace keep dying. When I call they want more money before they can come out to fix what they did wrong. This is ridiculous. Truly the worst possible experience working with contractors. We had someone come out to give us an estimate on installing a gas line in our condo and they told us it would be over 3 weeks before they could come out. On the day they were originally scheduled to come out, my husband had taken off work to meet them here and they just didn't show up. We finally got a call midday saying they were missing a part. We understand shipping is crazy these days, but NO call beforehand until they had missed this appointment was unacceptable. When they came out a week later, the contractor who came out to do the work said that we should have been notified to have a gas meter put in and that he couldn't start work until then. Which we gladly would have done had we been told by the sales guy FOUR WEEKS AGO. When we called to ask why we weren't told to do this the sales guy attempted to evade all responsibility, the owner dodged our calls and had his unhelpful sales guy (Roy) call my husband and angrily demand why I called the owner. UNACCEPTABLE. This is your job - we're happy to pay your rates and understand delays and shipping happens. But this level of unprofessionalism was something I've never experienced before. The contractors who came to do the work were lovely but the level of disorganization and truly disgusting levels of customer care from their management team were appalling. Scheduled an appointment for Metro to come to my condo unit and service my A/C and install a thermostat. Scheduling the appt went fine. The day before the appt they called me and said they couldn't service my system because it is hooked up to the underground water system in the city. (I called them because there was a service sticker on my system from Metro. They serviced my unit a year and a half ago). I called my board president and he said we are not hooked up to the city water system. I called Metro back and they said they still couldn't service my system because they don't work in downtown Minneapolis or St Paul anymore. So I don't know if they couldn't service my system because they were ignorant on how my building is set up or because they won't service customers who live downtown in both major cities. I'll be happy to use on of their competitors. If you live downtown, don't even bother. read more

Our contractor John not only did what we needed him to do, but he did extra. We had issues with our water heater, and our thermostat. He was able to take care of my water heater and even show me steps on how to make my water warm. He helped me clean my furnace from debris and replaced my thermostat with one that worked. Now I have warm water and a warm house. A++ work and highly recommend them if you need any help with your water or air condition. read more

They charged us $390 to route PVC from our basement (sump pump) to our backyard. $90 for parts (mind you, parts included less than 10 feet of PVC, an elbow or two, and some glue - how does that costs $90?!). They charged $150/hour for their labor (totally fine). BUT when it came time to drill through our basement to get the PVC pipe out, the guy took his sweet time. In the past, a different contractor came out to drill through a similar spot in the basement and he had it done within MINUTES. Metro took about ONE HOUR to drill the hole. Either their tools don't work properly or they are told to take their time during these jobs to make the most money. This job shouldn't have taken two hours to complete. Within a few days they completed the job in the amount of time they said it would take. The Technician was very professional, he made sure that both thermostats were working properly before he left. We had a furnace tune up last fall and were satisfied. I recently asked for an estimate to replace a small vent cap on our roof. The estimate was $450.00. I asked for clarification and was told that all of their crews are 2-3 people. This is not true because our tune up "crew" was one technician. I also was told that we had to pay a liability surcharge because the "crew" had to go on the roof. They have liability insurance for every project. A liability surcharge is ridiculous. The estimator was overcharging and hoping we would accept it. No more business from us. read more

It was a difficult install because of the space, they had to move the hot water heater and re-hook it up to get the old boiler out and the new one in. And they didn't complain. At the start of one of our lovely Minnesota sub-zero days, I called Metro Heating and Cooling about 9:30 (this was a Friday morning) as my home furnace decided to keep shutting off by itself. Metro's appointment line was very pleasant and listened with a personal touch. He told me they were already booked for the day through 8PM but they could get me in if I would agree to about 20 minutes notice lead time. They also told me if I waited until the weekend, there would be extra charges. They were true to their word and came out about 4PM within 20 minutes of the lead call. Mike, the technician, was highly professional and personable. The problem turned out not to be major. Mike corrected it, made certain everything was working and I was charged only for a service call --plus they credited their online coupon for a discount! Mike assured me the repair was honored for 30 days. The furnace has worked perfectly since the repair. I own my own business. My opinion is that each client needs to be treated with the concern you would give your very first customer. A company I've used several times (including new furnace and air in$tall$ ) didn't have time to fit me in the last couple of times I called them for service. This time I tried Metro and they will be my first call the next time I need service or an install. read more

We live in an old house, and had old furnace and air conditioning units. The air conditioner has not worked this summer. I saw an add in the paper saying the average installed price is $4,400 after rebates for high efficiency. It's true- We're getting ours for $4,566 but went for the upgraded equipment. They put down tarps, worked all day, and cleaned up at the end. I got my XCEL rebate applications in the mail yesterday. It's nice to have an air conditioner again and I'm looking forward to the savings in my heating bills. read more

We have used Metro Heating and Cooling for many furnace and boiler replacements, as well as small repair jobs. We have found them to be both professional as well as very nice to work with. I have had numerous contacts with Dave R, Eric, Micah and Dave B (owner) and all of them have been very helpful with anything we have ever needed! We have found their prices to be very competitive and sometimes even a bit lower than some other companies. We recently tried to package heating and cooling along with plumbing by company who does both to save a bit and for simplicity and scheduling purposes. However, we had a horrible experience with them in work and in customer service and we went right back to Metro!! Lesson learned. Metro Heating and Cooling installed my new residential central air conditioning unit. I had selected the five companies with the highest ratings on the Internet to submit bids (of which they were one). I then entered all of the relevant data into an Excel spreadsheet. Metro Heating & Cooling was the winner! The combination of equipment (Bryant), customer service ratings, warranty and price made it a no-brainer. The installation guys did an excellent job and were very professional and courteous. However, the unit was cycling on and off, so I called Metro. They sent out Brian, the troubleshooting tech. He is a remarkably knowledgable and competent tech. Brian spent quite a bit of time troubleshooting my NEST thermostats and talked directly to the NEST tech person on my behalf. Ultimately, it was determined that the thermostats needed a "fifth wire" hooked up to ensure sufficient voltage. Brian proceeded to perform this task on both thermostats and everything is now running great. The entire experience was a pleasure and I feel like I really got what I paid for. Special thanks to Brian for his patience, great customer service attitude and technical abilities. He went out of his way to make sure my system was working good and that I was totally satisfied. When I asked why the installers didn't make sure it was not cycling, Brian explained that the installers specialize in installations, while techs like himself specialize in working out any issues that may pop up. This explanation makes sense to me and so I offer my recommendation to everyone that Metro Heating and Cooling will take good care of you. read more

I've had this company out several times to work on my gas hot water heater (replace burner assembly, do routine maintenance, emergency work when pilot won't stay lit) as well as routine maintenance on the AC. They are always excellent and respond quickly to requests for service, show up when scheduled, and the techs are courteous and knowledgeable. One technician in particular, Josh, has been to my house four times for both hot water heater service and A/C service and has been outstanding. Never use Metro Heating and Cooling. Back in January I shopped around to replace a three season family room heater and selected Metro Heating and Cooling based on cheap price. That was the biggest mistake I made. First a "qualified technician" came out and installed a wrong unit and after he was done the system wouldn't stay on. Little did he know that he installed the wrong unit and was suggesting to drill a hole on the wall or a vent to the roof to provide ventilation for the heater. I refused, and in hindsight, am glad I did because we could've been dead if I allowed that. At winter's end, shut the heater down and now in October, turned it back on and it won't stay on. A different "qualified technician" came out and doesn't understand simple gas piping on the unit. Worst of all, he was suggesting keeping the heater on all year round, even in 90 degree heat. He said he thinks a couple of parts had a problem with a new unit. Luckily there was a year warranty for them to deal with it, too sad I will have to fork up another $2000 or more to replace this unit again. As of today they ordered a part from Chicago they said and is still not available. Talk about unprofessional behavior, they get irritated when I call to check on the status of the parts. Do your research, avoid these unprofessional and non trust worthy bunch. read more
