Worked hard in the service and got paid very little. This is the only restaurant in the country that takes care of their military, veterans, police, EMS for 50 % off the entire bill!! that's unheard of! I don't know any other restaurant facility establishment that offers such a big discount with absolutely delicious food! We moved to Puerto Rico, but we stay here four months of the year and this is our number one go to because the food is not the same in Puerto Rico :(

Amazing carne asada, mashed potatoes, and corn!!! Plus the drinks!

This place is amazing, great bar tenders such as Christ is amazing person and always attentive and welcoming person!!!

Great food spot! Their skinny margaritas are "amazingly" good. The service was super friendly, [[HIGHLIGHT]]ambiance relaxing and pretty inside[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] and food very good. Highly recommended.

We were welcomed and seated right away. The waitperson was very helpful with helping us with the menu. There are a lot of historical photographs throughout the restaurant. The food was good. We enjoyed the Fajitas. The chips were very yummy.

**Unwelcoming experience and disappointing service.** As the owner of three creative studios nearby, I make it a point to try local restaurants so I know where to refer my clients. Unfortunately, Mexicali Cocina & Cantina left a bad impression in almost every way. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I visited, the place was almost empty--just a few people were dining.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered their popular steak burrito and a glass of water with lemon. The server, who was polite and respectful, brought water but forgot the lemon. When I asked again, I received paper-thin slices that couldn't be squeezed. He apologized, saying that's all they had. When my food arrived--delivered by what appeared to be the manager--I noticed the burrito was cut in half. The first half had almost no meat, just beans and rice. Hoping it had all shifted to the second half, I tried it and found the meat was pink and undercooked, despite me clearly asking for it *well done*. It made me nauseous and dizzy. I politely asked for the manager again. When she approached, instead of trying to make things right, she said: *"I took it off, no worries--just next time don't go through half your plate before complaining."* I had eaten less than 25% of the food and was simply trying to give it a fair shot before raising a concern. I explained that I'm a business owner checking out local spots to support and recommend to clients. I shared my concerns about the lack of meat in the first half and the undercooked meat in the second. Before I could finish, she interrupted and said: *"I don't need to hear this, I already took it off--just leave."* No offer to remake the meal, no apology, no professionalism. [[HIGHLIGHT]]worst Ambiance ever[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] To be clear--I have no issue with anyone's race or background. But in today's climate, especially in a city like Los Angeles where racial and cultural tensions are very present, actions like this stand out. It's hard not to notice when a restaurant profits from a culture but doesn't show respect to the people who come from it. **Food: Below standard** **Service: Dismissive** **[[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance: Cold and disconnected[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]** I wasted 30 minutes and left feeling disrespected. This is not a place I can recommend--neither for the food nor for the experience.

Ceviche
Moriah L.

Such a cute atmosphere and great service!! I ordered the ceviche which came with a side of flour or corn tortillas. The portion size was generous and the fish was very fresh. The ceviche had the perfect amount of citrus. Even took some home for leftovers the next day(: There's a large parking lot behind the restaurant! Will definitely come visit again to try more things on their menu!

The food is delicious. I love it. I recommend it to anyone this place is already from 1995. Everything is fresh and delicious. Thank you James

Ask the Community - Mexicali Cocina & Cantina

Do they serve Chile rellenos?

Yes.

What happened to the Ocho tequila. You don't offer it any more?

Just got it back in stock. Blanco only for now. Anejo is not available yet.

Hi! I didn't see anything about happy hour on the menu. Does Mexicali have any specials? Thanks!

Thank you for the question. We do not offer happy hour due to he extreme cost of goods. We only utilize only the freshest and locally sourced items, which makes a discounted menu cost prohibitive. Our daily menu is available seven days a week.…

Are you ever going to have happy hour again.?

Thank you for the question. We are working on a great "Taco Tuesdays" menu and possibly a new Happy Hour very soon. Thank you.

When will Mexicali Mondays and Happy Hour return?

Hi there. Happy hour and Mexicali Mondays soon. We will keep everyone posted. Thanks for the questions.

When will Mexicali Monday's and Happy Hour be back? Thanks!

Soon. Thanks for asking.

Loved everything about this place!…read more Staff was excellent and attentive. Food was amazing and very, very creative. The brick barrel vaulted ceiling that runs the length of the restaurant really adds to the ambiance of this place. Out of the seven dishes, only two were not as flavorful as expected. They were good by any other restaurant's standards, but just not great like the others. The other five dishes more than made up for this small blip. Can't wait to go again. Must tries: Quail Deviled Eggs with Ahi Tuna and Dill are amazing!! Hamachi with sprouted broccoli, tempura, ponzu, shiso aioli, Black Sesame Seeds Charred Brussels Sprouts with almonds, grapes, and Pecorino Romano. Lamb chops with Aji Amarillo, rosemary, and yogurt. These were the most tender lamb chops I have ever had. And that often overly-lamb flavor was not there. And do not pass up on the Charred Skirt Steak with yuca, chile de árbol, and aji mojo. Cooked to a perfect medium rare and extremely tender and exploding with flavor. The most expensive item of our dinner at $48 and worth it. A large portion that fed four of us.

I'm glad I did because this visit was a huge improvement. The service was friendly, attentive, and much better than my previous experience. For food, we ordered the chicken Parmesan, meatballs, and taquitos. Everything was flavorful, well-prepared, and delicious. I also tried the Piccolo Punch and the Penicillin cocktails. The Piccolo Punch was especially unique and incredibly tasty, and the Penicillin was just as good. While the cocktails are on the expensive side, they're expertly crafted, strong, and definitely worth trying if you're looking for quality drinks.

I can't eat a lot of the cuisine due to a legume allergy, so I only ordered the feta cheese plate: five squares of feta dusted with herbs & spices, persian cucumber, tomato, mint, & Greek olives. The Yerevan cocktail was great - an unusual take on a Manhattan with banana liqueur. This would be a romantic spot for just drinks and apps, as it was chill and quiet. There's hookah as well, an extensive flavour menu and a designated "hookah guy" to attend to your setup. There's parking in the lot next door until 10:30pm - be sure to move your car by then, or it will be locked in the garage with an additional charge overnight (this didn't happen to me; I heeded other Yelp reviews and noted the signs around the garage). I paid $6 to park for 2 hours (the restaurant doesn't validate). The entrance is on the side of the building; you'll see it as soon as you exit the garage.

HEADLINE: No Laptops Allowed (?!???!!)…read more I was spearheading a small work meeting (4 people) and this restaurant is centrally located to everyone, so we made a reservation for a Wednesday at 7pm. Among us, we had one small macbook pro for note taking. As soon as we were seated outside (among a largely empty floor) a gentleman on staff came up to me and said "Just so you know, if you are planning on using your computer, you can't." I was stunned for a minute but then approached him and asked for clarification. He said it has to do with management and that no computers are allowed. I explained that the entire reason we came there was to have a very lowkey dinner meeting and that nowhere on the website does it say that patrons can't use a laptop. Our server got involved and then talked to the manager, came back and said this one time we can use it, that they will make an exception, but the rule is no computers. We ended up staying there for convenience but I feel like the $400 we spent should have gone somewhere conducive to making a living and surviving in this world, and I have been thinking about how much I regret going there for an entire week now.

The usually have a live band after 7pm and the sound in the resturant is amazing. It's like a recording studio. The staff was very friendly! The decor and ambiance was also impressive. Definitely swanky but down to earth vibes. I got the rasberry beret cocktail and it was different but fabulous. Not sure how else to describe it. It was refreshing. We got the tiger prawns and it was presented as a toasta, which had a great flavor and texture. The apple salad was also refreshing and a good portion to share between 2 people. The broccolini was cooked perfectly and my favorite after the tiger prawns was the Dungeness crab pasta. It had uni on top! The uni elevated the dish, and honestly there were a good amount of crab meat in the dish. Overall well balanced and creamy. The 2 of us left full and satisfied. Highly recommend this place for a date night. There's also plenty of street parking when we went but there is also valet for $15.
