Stay FAR away from this place. My brother approved a $915 tune-up. That's it! After the work was done, they called saying he was going to need a fuel pump, he clearly said NO. When he got there, the bill was suddenly $1,515. They went ahead and replaced the fuel pump without authorization and then presented him paperwork to sign AFTER the work was already done. That is completely unacceptable and honestly feels like a scam. He was put in a position where we had no choice but to pay an extra $600 he never agreed to, just to get the vehicle back. No written approval, no integrity, no accountability. If you value your money, do NOT trust this shop nor trust Kevin or Louis! There name should be Shiesters On Western! I stopped by to get an estimate on a complete muffler installation. They quoted me $360 (before I showed them that I already purchased the parts) The mechanic put my truck on the lift and pointed out that I needed one more pipe. I ordered the part and went back the next week. Their hourly rate is $120/Hr, he completed the job in an hour and charged be $450... You do the match and then decide if you want them to work on your vehicle. P.S. No trade in value for my old catalytic converter either, so $200+ more for them. read more

Genuinely pleasant, worth some repeat business. Pros: Forthright service Timely assessments Down-to-earth experience Acceptable prices Cons: No macchiato or pumpkin spice lattes (if you're into that sort of thing) First time experience with Mexico Mufflers turned out to be a pleasant and genuinely friendly experience. I brought the car in for some urgently needed brake work and to have them inspect that loose clinking noise I kept hearing every time I hit a pothole or speed bump. The staff is sincere and dutiful. What I don't get is the excessively smiley Lincoln Park greetings. What I do get is sincere customer service and an honest assessment with realistic time estimates. They remain pretty busy so early arrival is highly recommended. If the wait is so long that they won't be able to attend to your vehicle that same day, expect to be told so. It's something that only adds to the honest feel of the place, lends credibility to the idea they're not holding on to cars for the sake of squeezing in another client. After my first visit I was certain the new brakes were rubbing pretty badly so I brought it back to have it checked out. Turns out it was something unrelated but they adjusted my loose heat shield to eliminate the noise. Overall, would definitely come here again for muffler/wheel related problems. We all want someone to really listen to our car problems with nuanced explanations and then really care. You're not getting a personal therapist anywhere. But what you will get at Mexico Mufflers is an audience, some feedback, and a staff that will try to work with you. read more

I learned to drive late in life - only a couple of years ago when I moved to Chicago, so I bought a cute '95 Cabrio with the idea that I, being a totally crap driver, would drive it into the ground. I've nearly succeeded. The catalytic converter was shot - meaning, you could hear me coming from a mile away, by the sputtering rasberries out the back end of my car. My husband found this shop on his way to a client site when his cat gave out and couldn't say enough about the excellent service and price. He was so right. Not only did this place quote me $500 less than the place I first went to in the South Loop, but when the mechanic showed me underneath my car, he pointed out there was actually nothing wrong with the part this other garage told me needed to be replaced. Yes, honesty will win my loud-mouthed loyalty every time. This shop is whistle clean and well-lit, with a professional receptionist and magazines in the waiting room. Wish I could remember the owner's name because he and his staff were extremely courteous and gave me a great deal, explaining the work that needed to be done (including an oil pan gasket that needed replacing) and doing the job on the spot, a couple of hours before closing. Parts and labor come with a written warranty, please and thank you. My car is purring happily. I'm still not a great driver but enjoy how well my car drives. For now. read more

Reasonable place with decent prices and workers and Gilbert seem to be good people's, but be aware. There does seem to be a discord between walk ins and people who drop thier car off. I have did both and they took twice as long to get to the vehicle as opposed to waiting and also take longer if you bring it back thru warranty. That lady receptionist hates to see butts in the seats and she not collecting money. Just watch. Also you get what you pay for. $20.00 muffler, 30.00 cat converters. If I had to do it over again I would have kept my cat converter and muffler which was quieter than the one they gave me and just let him change bent pipes, (accident) flex pipe and resonater. read more

While leaving work one morning I heard a clunk as I'm sitting at a red light. I thought the cabbie in back of me hit me. As I pressed on the accelerator my car sounded like a speed boat. I wasn't sure what it was but assumed it was my muffler. When I got home I checked and sure enough it was. It was hanging extremely low. The next day I drove it to and from work but was to afraid to risk being pulled over for noise pollution. So on Saturday morning, I headed to Mexico Mufflers after reading the positive reviews. I needed a muffler shop that was near my house, honest and affordable. I brought a male friend with me hoping he would be the buffer but he was no help. Ugh! Anyway the people were polite. He told me my muffler was shot and was going to cost $350. Damn! He provided another option which was fix one muffler instead of both but that was going to be $250. Crap! The last thing he suggested was to avoid the loud noise he could weld it back in place for $40. Bingo! The reason why I was apprehensive about the other options is my car is rusted out on the bottom. I don't want to spend an arm and a leg on repairs knowing by the end of next month I'll junk it. So I'm thankful I went here. I will return to this place when I get my new car. No appt, so I was shocked when they told me within 20 mins it was my Flex Pipe(which I kinda hoped that was all). Even took a picture of it for me to send to they the Hubby, who was not with me. wish I could say something good about this business, but unfortunately according to my experience they're terrible, first of all after explaining the issues with my car, the lady at the front desk asked me to wait outside, because it was already 2 people there: her and a client; when I came back to retrieve my car it was not 2 but 4 people inside,. . . .I guess all of the sudden she forgot how to count, the job they performed on my car damaged another part and they were trying to charge me to get it fix, when I looked at the note, they charged 3.6 hrs of work! ! When they only took 1 1/2 hrs to work on it! ! ! I walked out of there and went to another shop, to pay for what the broke. I called on advance to enquire about an oil change. Somewhat standard price I guess, but bad time management. The guy wanted me to wait for 45 minutes before they can start looking into it. It also seemed to me like they were not busy at all since one of the technicians was sitting down looking into a magazine and the guy I talked to was standing close to the secretary-receptionist. If I can give this shop a zero I would. I came in there to have a catalytic converter on a Camaro installed. A few days later I started hearing a loud rumbling sound coming from the converter. That's when I later took a look and saw both the bolts that hold my converter were loose basically dragging the converter. And my oxygen sensor I unloosened with my own two fingers. My exhaust hanger snapped off my exhaust and I needed a place to do it quick. My friend recommended me to this place, so I took his word for it and headed here on a Saturday afternoon with no appointment. I walked in and was told the wait is currently going to be an hour, which was fine because I needed it done. An hour later, I was helped and they welded my exhaust hanger back for me within 10 minutes and charged me $30. I would come back here again for more muffler work in the future.
