pretty down and dirty nook in excelsior district, seems pretty authentic. the menu is huge, I just got the chicken burrito (not the super which comes with sour cream, guac, and cheese). it came with free chips which were the best thing -- thin, seasoned very well, came with various sauces. the burrito ingredients were seasoned nicely and I liked the tang from the tomato sauce which was unique, but it was a hit or miss with some people. Very good soups- I've had the caldo de res and the pozole rojo! They both come out very hot so you definitely need to take your time if you're eating here. My new go-to place for lengua. Really doesn't compare to anywhere else I've eaten it. The meat is so tender and juicy, I think it really elevates the burrito experience. Only 2 problems occurred with my order: 1. I feel like the carne asada was just not as charred as I like it, and the pieces were so small, it was almost ground beef. 2. I'm disappointed in writing this review because I generally don't write low ratings for local small businesses, and I wrote a highly rated review of this restaurant. I ordered a carne asada and shrimp burrito super burrito to go. When I was eating my burrito, I noticed that it did not have any carne asada. I called the taquiera asking them if they can refund me for the product I bought. The associate told me I need to go back to the restaurant and return the burrito I half ate,n and then they will make me a new burrito. I told them that it would be too complicated because that would mean I would have to drive back. I then asked them if they could return money for the carne asada that was missing, and they told me I still need to go back to the restaurant and return the burritp and I would only get $1.50 back. It's 2026, and ain't no restaurant charging $1.50 for extra steak. At this point, I knew this restaurant was not looking out for its customers. Sadly, I won't be returning to this restaurant and supporting them. From my experience, most restaurants would acknowledge they messed up on the order and either refund the order or provide a partial refund. Do better, Mexico Tipico - make sure ya'll eat your burrito before you leave your restaurant if you have a specific order, because they won't accommodate you for any mistakes they make. P.S. So first off ! Their food is so good. The green salsa people raved about is really that good. The customer service I got tonight was phenomenal and that person deserves a raise. Coming from So Cal (Los Angeles area), but being raised in Nor Cal (San Francisco area), I used to have a certain snobbery about Mexican food, favoring The City (SF) over LA, despite LA having a bigger Mexican community and geographically being closer to the border of Mexico. SF used to have great Chicken prepared in an almost stew like red sauce simmering moist and tender, and LA used to have grilled chicken chopped up and kinda dry... that's part of what I liked about SF Mexican food... and it still can be found here in SF (just not here at Tipito, to my disappointment) I feel the prices of ethnic cuisine that's been traditionally affordable comfort food, especially Chinese and Mexican, has gone up in The City, whereas in LA, it's priced for the people, more affordably. So, we ate a $7 shrimp taco which would be $5 in LA (and maybe $3.50 on Taco Tuesday) here, it was good but still seemed expensive. The fish taco (fried option) was a series of small "french fry sized" strips, totally not good at all in format, taste, quality and price. We had a burrito and that was very good, a nice portion of meat, good balance of beans and rice too, an almost sharable size. For lunch we spent about $40 for 4 or $10 a person, but it was more snack portions and a full on lunch with drinks we'd estimate would have cost more in the realm of $75-80, or about $20 a person. In Los Angeles, we'd get comparable food for maybe 1/2 the price than in SF, so this review might be biased to that degree in why it's not * * * * * five stars instead of 4 However, * * * * four 4 stars is great in my book, so don't fret, it's a good review overall. I mentioned the areas that could be improved here. Parking isn't easy but is achievable. The service here was friendly however. read more

Came at the recommendation of another Yelper, Cherylynn! The service was good, as the cashier was nice and gave us a lot of different sauces to try with the chips. They do charge around ~2% extra for card purchases, so I would recommend bringing cash. I ordered a Super Burrito with Steak, while a friend ordered Lengua, and another friend was able to get half of both. The steak was flavorful without being dry, and the lengua was soft without being soggy. I think if I were to go again, I would do the half and half option as it really is the best of both worlds. I LOVE their sauces, each were really unique, and I wish I had asked for extra as it elevated the burrito. Just recently moved to the area and have been missing my dads cooking. Obviously nothing compares to home cooking but this place comes close. The taco meats are nicely seasoned the beans are delicious and the service is fast. Both times I've came the place was packed but you are able to find a place to seat by the time you order someone is leaving and you can find a spot. We feel in love with the tacos de lengua. Not a lot of people know how to prepare the meat correctly and they have perfected. Definitely will be bringing my dad here next time they come to visit. Only tip I would say the salsas need a little more salt and spice but other than that the food doesn't disappoint. Almost forgot the agua the horchata is bomb! Must try! read more

A decade later and Mexico Tipico is STILL killing it! They often get overlooked by the more popular taquerias in The Excelsior and The Mission but they remain my fav taqueria in the city for their great food, reasonable prices, consistency, and friendly service. Sadly, while other businesses have declined in quality and service because of COVID (not their fault), Mexico Tipico is just as bomb from the day I started visiting them. With COVID, they're following all safety protocols - plexiglass at register, staff wearing masks properly, indoor tables are spaced out more than 6 feet, and no self-serve salsa bar. My go-tos: * Regular Lengua Burrito, no rice, no beans, add avocado (~$9). SEE pic below! Warm, chewy flour tortilla that's generously filled with uber tender chunks of meaty lengua. Not overseasoned so you can taste all that delicious beefyness. You get your monies worth unlike La Taqueria that's overpriced and hella overhyped. * Menudo ($13.99) Heaping bowl of guajillo-spiced broth swimming with soft honeycomb+book tripe and meltingly soft pata. No hominy which is my preference. Gelatinous goodness that's great for your skin+bones and to nurse that hangover. All orders come with complimentary chips and they have a handful of salsas (pico de gallo, roja, verde, habanero, etc) available upon request. The salsa verde is my fav: tangy with a kick of heat. One of my favorite places for a good super vegetarian burrito! They also have great agua Fresca, shrimp cocktails, meat burritos, and really all good food. Workers are great, tables are usually available, the only negative thing I can point out is parking can be bad, but I've never not found parking close enough to walk.
