Instead of calling me Honey we would have preferred competence. We ordered what we did Sunday . The drink came but no nachos and guac. Just around when our main course, the server suddenly remembered and blamed the kitchen. When our BBQ rice bowls came, servings were less and my bowl had no RICE. We asked and were told at 6:45 they ran out of rice. Weird when the 4 people next to us who ordered after all got rice. We were told the Manager was coming to explain but never showed up. My friend and I went here on a Monday night around 5:30, and since only a few tables were taken, we got a great spot at a table against the wall. The ambiance was cozy, and the music was playing at a comfortable level. Our server, Shamin, was exceptional. He was invaluable in accommodating my vegan needs. (I was a bit bummed, however, that the restaurant was out of their vegan chipotle cashew queso.) Shamin helped me choose an entrée and make sure it was vegan. I knew I was going to order the avocado taco, but couldn't decide between the cauliflower or mushroom (seasonal vegetables) taco. I asked if I could have a taco with both of those ingredients, and he told me he would make it happen! The guacamole and chips appetizer quickly arrived, and we actually started to eat before I took a photo because the food looked so good! The chips were perfectly crunchy, and the guacamole was delicious! I really appreciated that the dish came with peppers and pickled onions on the side - what a great twist! I wanted to love this place. I saw it on my map, I read the story, I loved the story and I expected the food to be amazing. That, says their website is their focus. I walked in at 7:30. I sat at the bar. I was immediately informed that they closed in 30 minutes. One hour earlier than their website says. I asked "can I get it to go?" She said, "of course". I figured out what I wanted, I had a question, and eventually she came back. I asked her what came with a $9.75 fish taco. Nothing. But everything that's listed is in the taco. Okay. I asked, is this a meal? It's not a small taco, right? And She said "Maybe get two or three". Not at 9.75 apiece! So I also ordered the small order of chips and charred jalapeno guacamole to fill out my meal. I wasn't starving. I saw an order of nachos going out and the food was huge. I thought certainly too much food for me for tonight. But if that was any indication of the portions, I should be fine. Disappointed is putting it mildly. And this place gets a 94% approval rating on Apple Maps. Is it because it's in Time Square? I don't know. I'm not new. I know what things cost in New York. So $12 for chips and guacamole that tasted like unseasoned smashed up avocado. Nothing charred or jalapeño. The taco was unremarkable. And the chips to guac ratio not even close. Came here for dinner and had a positive experience. Had a reservation for 7pm and arrived around 6:40, it took a long time for a hostess to greet us but we're sat right after they spoke to us. We ordered the chips and salsa which was good and I got the Smokey Marg as a drink. It tastes like a non-spicy version of a jalapeño marg. For dinner, I ordered the grilled burrito with Smokey chicken. Everything was flavorful and food came out super quickly. It was definitely flavorful but not out-of-this-world, need to tell everyone about this place. Would go back eventually, but not at the top of my list. Waiter was super friendly and place was clean. It's rare to eat somewhere and not even need to think for a split second about how many stars it should get. Mexicue was an absolutely phenomenal place to stop for dinner before a show. We took our waiter's suggestion to start with the chips and guac with a side of salsa - the guac was hands down one of the best I've ever had, tasting so fresh and seasoned to perfection. As someone who isn't a huge fan of green salsa, I was very impressed with that as well. As a main, I had the chicken fajitas which were out of this world and SO much food, and my friend had the chicken rice bowl which was even better! For dessert we ordered the churros, not expecting such a large portion yet also devouring it because of how great it tasted. Small bar has a great selection of Tequilas, Mezcals and Bourbons. House Margaritas are really good and especially reasonable during Happy Hour (3-6, M-F), as are some food items.
